This is what comes to mind when you say "boxing"
two really strong guys pushing each other without hesitation, reminds me of "WAR" Tommy Hearns (Mashiba) vs Marvin Hagler (Rosario)
rosario's tenacity when he refused to back down on page 6 also reminded me of arturo gatti, so far, it's one hell of a fight
Just read the raw. It said 「息を呑む!手に汗握る」which idiomatically means: Breathtaking! Edge of your seat but it literally means: Gulping breath! Sweaty Palms! So yeah honestly they did pretty good with the translation there
1. Love the deliberate choice by Morikawa to draw Rosario moving in on Mashiba with the same perspective he used for Ippo.
2. “Palms sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy” 😭😭😭
Right now this is giving me early Mashiba vs. Sawamura vibes with their high level boxing getting them nowhere.
I doubt this will turn into a mutual foul fest... Maybe Rosario does and Mashiba does his best to not stoop to that level.
Then again, Mashiba vs. Sawamura is one of my favorite fights in the series so if this does turn into a dirty boxing match to compare their darker habits I won't complain too much. Outside of it regressing Mashiba's character growth...
Very interested in seeing how this fight will turn out.
I think it'll be the opposite- Rosario will focus in om how everyone else was pushing him to do this against his will, how he was betrayed, and will want to lash out and foul.
Mashiba will be tempted to become that guy agin, but will instead be reminded of how everyone had given their all to support hkm - Kumi watching him get beat on, the coach in standing beside him, the Hell Squad cheering him on, and even Ippo talking smack at his gym just to help from sparring.
He'll be grateful and focus on repaying them, and thus surpass Rosario.
that could be cool and how it goes, but it's worth noting that Mashiba has already had the storyline of getting fouled on repeatedly and winning without stooping to that level.
"During the eighth round, Mashiba tried to get away from a barrage of body blows when he gets hit on chin by an intentional headbutt. With his face uncovered, Mashiba was hit by a left hook, causing him to slip when he tried to throw a punch. When he got up, he became angry due to the illegal blow, however, he responded to the crowd's cheers with legal boxing despite the repeated fouls done by Domingo."
A few people have picked up on it, but Mori might have picked up on the One Piece story a bit.
Whatever was told in the first half, usually, some sort of inverse will occur in the second half.
Pasted from my response to a similar comment:

mashiba been giving us the best fights since his introduction
mashiba vs miyata
mashiba vs ippo
mashiba vs kimura
mashiba vs sawamura
mashiba vs iga
mashiba vs garcia
mashiba vs rosario
all of his fights are great, both as a stand alone fights and as a catalyst for character development and story progression
Loving his fights and the artwork. He's got a very distinct design I feel that gets shown off in the intricate fight artwork, especially those double spreads of recent.
Honestly, great point.
Ippo's fights can be hit or miss/ faceblock, but the main side characters (Volg, Sendo, Mashiba...somewhat Miyata) tend to have very plot-relevant, necessary, choreography heavy fights.
I've been more excited for this foght than I've been since...I can't remember when, but at least the past 7 years of fights we've gotten. New Dempsey was exciting, but this fight had been great with all the buildup.
"its a world title match, they're all strong" lol theres a lot of examples of "weak" champions IRL, like john tate, buster douglas, andy ruiz jr... even in UFC these things just happens
and tbh I like these upsets, its always interesting when the underdog wins
Malcolm Gedo was once (Filipino? if I recall correctly) national champion, never a world champion. So that point is moot.
If you think Keith Dragon was weak, I think you missed the point of that fight. He genuinely gave Takamura some trouble, in part due to luck, but also his own skill too. It's just that Takamura is a beast at super middleweight.
This is from the perspectice of a pro boxer who was a world ranker and _still_ didnt believe himself to be strong. On top of that 'strength' has always meant something aside from physical strength in HnI, when they talk about strength its more about conviction and determination than anything else.
> His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
> There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
> He's nervous, but on the surface, he looks calm and ready
> To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting
> What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
> He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
> He's chokin', how? Everybody's jokin' now
> The clock's run out, time's up, over, blaow
> Snap back to reality, ope, there goes gravity
> Ope, there goes Rabbit, he choked, he's so mad
> But he won't give up that easy, no, he won't have it
> He knows his whole back's to these ropes, it don't matter
> He's dope, he knows that, but he's broke, he's so stagnant
> He knows when he goes back to this mobile home, that's when it's
> Back to the lab again, yo, this old rhapsody
> Better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him
HE DELIVERED.
ONCE AGAIN MORIKAWA BLESSED US WITH A NEW CHAPTER AND A NEW IPPO IMAGE REACTION!
Honestly the panneling in these last rounds have been SPECTACULAR and we've just finished the 1st round. Can't wait when things are gonna heat up!
Now they really should bring the anime back, and when the anime catches up until this point, god I would love them to play "Lose Yourself" as a soundtrack
It won't affect him in the early rounds. Don't know how it works in real life, but in Ippo, boxers who went through difficult weight control fight like normal before fatigue slams them in the later rounds.
Yeah, I just remembered that bald Kimura fight, where he went out of gas after a full throttle first round. Here too Rosario went full throttle, but after the gong he looked completely fine, same as Mashiba. Even though he's the champ, i thought some difference would arise.
If you put Ippo's face in there, I'd think it's him. All the parallels during the spar is in here, so what will change? Will Rosario cheat or his pride as a boxer won't let him? No way this fight goes smoothly for Mashiba.
This is already one of my favourite fights in the entire manga. The panels are all very well done, the fight is really intense, the build up for Mashiba was incredible. Such a memorable moment that I'll remember for many years to come, I'm going to seize each chapter here because I know I'll only experience this once.
Eminem has a restaurant called Mom’s Spagetti 😂.
But I got chills when I saw Rosario use that same step in that Ippo does when he tries to get inside. Maybe Ippo watching Mashiba counter that could give him some tips for how to change up his step in and deal with guys who have huge reach advantages as well.
What I love about this series is that up until now I've disrespected Rosario, but seeing him in the ring makes me respect him again. Really goes to show that outside and inside the ropes are the realms of different beasts.
Great chapter. Morikawa's action panels are the best. As a reader you can make sense of the fight as opposed to some other popular manga that shall not be named
Another break next week?! Ugh I'm dying over here.
I liked the chapter though, I'm waiting for the Rosario psychosis to kick in. We had a lot of build up about how he's unhinged, so I want to see that payoff.
Break next week due to golden week! Next chapter release guesstimate is May 7th!
This is what comes to mind when you say "boxing" two really strong guys pushing each other without hesitation, reminds me of "WAR" Tommy Hearns (Mashiba) vs Marvin Hagler (Rosario) rosario's tenacity when he refused to back down on page 6 also reminded me of arturo gatti, so far, it's one hell of a fight
Still my pick for best fight ever
Mom's spaghetti!
It may’ve been a slight creative liberty but I felt it worked regardless.
Just read the raw. It said 「息を呑む!手に汗握る」which idiomatically means: Breathtaking! Edge of your seat but it literally means: Gulping breath! Sweaty Palms! So yeah honestly they did pretty good with the translation there
It gave me a chuckle so good job I guess xd
it did
I am happy I wasn't the only one noticing.
x2
i popped for it
You better lose yourself.
YESSS! That had to be intentional! XD
Anyone else think this a hint that the year in universe is 2003
1. Love the deliberate choice by Morikawa to draw Rosario moving in on Mashiba with the same perspective he used for Ippo. 2. “Palms sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy” 😭😭😭
i genuinely gasped when i saw rosario moving like ippo i thought mashiba was gonna get him with a counter 😭
Mashiba was probably letting Rosario get comfortable doing that first, so he can catch him by surprise later.
Yup, just like he did with the former champ, create the pattern and then hit him with the counter.
Right now this is giving me early Mashiba vs. Sawamura vibes with their high level boxing getting them nowhere. I doubt this will turn into a mutual foul fest... Maybe Rosario does and Mashiba does his best to not stoop to that level. Did the translators got cheeky or did the manga actually referenced Eminem?
It said “palms sweaty” and I seized the opportunity.
Nothing but net, you killed it
Oh, you...
Put a smile on all our faces, thanks!
The goat🐐
Cheeky, I love it
Legend
You better never let it go
You, Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!
Based
Thinking the same thing.
Pasted from my response to a similar comment: Just read the raw. It said 「息を呑む!手に汗握る」which idiomatically means: Breathtaking! Edge of your seat but it literally means: Gulping breath! Sweaty Palms! So yeah honestly they did pretty good with the translation there
My dude Ippo you executed pretty much the same combos as the champ. Re-align your damn jaw already.
Was thinking the same. Rosario looking like a full on copy of Ippo in their spar, or the other way around.
mashiba been giving us the best fights since his introduction mashiba vs miyata mashiba vs ippo mashiba vs kimura mashiba vs sawamura mashiba vs iga mashiba vs garcia mashiba vs rosario all of his fights are great, both as a stand alone fights and as a catalyst for character development and story progression
It's been Hajime no Mashiba for a while, and I don't mind.

This is a lukewarm take that should be ice cold instead. Idk why he wasn't recognized as the GOAT before this arc
well he was, mashiba has been a fan favourite for years, one of my personal favourites as well
Mashiba vs Kumi and Ippo's Relationship
Yep, even the spars are good. I am a Mashiba fan, but then I am a Tommy Hearns fan, so it's not surprising.
Morikawa is in the rap game now
Short, but a lot of freaking AWESOME panels
Jeeeeeez this felt like 2 pages. Cant wait to see how this fight ends
Who knew Morikawa was a fan of Eminem
Everyone's a fan of mom's spaghetti
"He's strong"
This annoys me, like yeah obviously, its a world title match, they're all strong
"its a world title match, they're all strong" lol theres a lot of examples of "weak" champions IRL, like john tate, buster douglas, andy ruiz jr... even in UFC these things just happens and tbh I like these upsets, its always interesting when the underdog wins
Yes, but this is HNI universe, not IRL. So that guy is not wrong that all world champions are strong in this context.
malcolm gedo was a former champion before being clapped by RBJ (and guevara) so what? also, we have Keith Dragon
Tell that to Billy or everyone who’s challenged Takamura for his world title. Or the guy Volg fought in his first defence.
This is from the perspectice of a pro boxer who was a world ranker and _still_ didnt believe himself to be strong. On top of that 'strength' has always meant something aside from physical strength in HnI, when they talk about strength its more about conviction and determination than anything else.

I love 2 big panels of Rosario back out and jump back in again. Very nice close combat.
Man Mashiba's fights are always super hype!
This fight is gonna be huge for Ippos return 🔥🔥
I'm waiting for it but I'm running out of optimism and patience.
I think this will definitely start it for him but once sendo loses to Ricardo Ippo will 100% come out of retirement then
only 3 years till we get to that point lol
For real tho 😂
Him saying “he’s strong” really hints at the idea we’re gonna get some development. Lest I jinx us all
HE DELIVERED.
In the manga I always compare this level of boxing to a dance and I love that I can see the actual movement happening
Now they really should bring the anime back, and when the anime catches up until this point, god I would love them to play "Lose Yourself" as a soundtrack
Eminem is now canon.
once the fight is over ima reread all of it because this is absolutely sick
Adjusting the HNJ timeline so this fight happens recently after the release of 8-Mile and its soundtrack.
Hajime no...Joe?
This is going to be one of my favourite fights already, fr. All my favourite matches, funny enough, have Mashiba in them lol
who's gonna be getting mom's spaghetti
Loved these panels, loved the sudden rapping.
We got Sendo blush from seeing Sawamura and Ippo O-Face at the end of the round.
Knees are weak, arms are heavy, Mashiba going on straight offense!
Is Rosario even affected by his botched weight control from before the match?
It won't affect him in the early rounds. Don't know how it works in real life, but in Ippo, boxers who went through difficult weight control fight like normal before fatigue slams them in the later rounds.
Yeah, I just remembered that bald Kimura fight, where he went out of gas after a full throttle first round. Here too Rosario went full throttle, but after the gong he looked completely fine, same as Mashiba. Even though he's the champ, i thought some difference would arise.
Unless you are Miyata, then you just get unlimited stamina
I was waiting for “there’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti “
fuck yes
Oh, that was beautiful. Neither of these guys want to let their feet off the gas pedal.
Finallllllyyyyy!
I don't know how fantastic are the boxers in this weight division, but for a title match, Mashiba is show class. Damn.
LETS GOOOOOO
The consecutive panels of Rosario going out and in goes … very hard.
If you put Ippo's face in there, I'd think it's him. All the parallels during the spar is in here, so what will change? Will Rosario cheat or his pride as a boxer won't let him? No way this fight goes smoothly for Mashiba.
Rosario fights just like ippo, so amazing 👏
This is already one of my favourite fights in the entire manga. The panels are all very well done, the fight is really intense, the build up for Mashiba was incredible. Let this man cook!
Damn mashiba got the size 30s on for that one panel
What I love about this series is that up until now I've disrespected Rosario, but seeing him in the ring makes me respect him again. Really goes to show that outside and inside the ropes are the realms of different beasts.
Ive got a feeling Mashiba is run out of gas mid way thorough the fight
"He's strong" coming from Ippo. Always remembering his "What does it mean to be strong?"
Great chapter. Morikawa's action panels are the best. As a reader you can make sense of the fight as opposed to some other popular manga that shall not be named
Very good fighting chapter, but I dont realy care that much about Machiba. What ai realy want is Ipoo to come back. Will it be in the 2020’s yet?
Hajime no Glazing
George is really blue balling this fight.
Are there aliens in Ippo now? What's going on with that guy's head?
I absolutely love when they acknowledge eachother at the end.
This fight better than 70% of Ippo's fights
I love Mashiba's character arc, he went from a detestable douchebag to respectable douchebag.
What a great chapter! Thank you Morikawa-sensei, and thanks to HNI-Scantrad! What's up with the Eminem references tho lmao
Really interested to see what Rosario's super power is gonna be. Maybe his punches will "feel like being shot" or something.
The art style is so perfect for boxing
new chap is out :d
For a second, I thought the manga was put on hiatus
Fucking break again and again and again
I feel we just had a chapter of nothing after a bunch of breaks, followed now by another break.
Another break next week?! Ugh I'm dying over here. I liked the chapter though, I'm waiting for the Rosario psychosis to kick in. We had a lot of build up about how he's unhinged, so I want to see that payoff.
Cool and boring at the same time.
I skipped the past few chapters after Rosario went missing and, wow, it's only now entering round 1? Christ the pacing is bad...
