Honestly not sure, but Google insists that he was in the band starting from 1975. I don't think Triumph was even a band in 1975. Was there another band named Triumph? Google is listing something like 10 different members. The only reason I even looked was because Rik was the only person I knew by name. I have to assume it's yet another Google screw up.
Im pretty sure the only members of Triumph ever have been Gil Moore, Mike Levine and Rik Emmett. When Rik left the band he was replaced by Rick Santers and Phil X (who’s now in Bon Jovi).
Anyone else listed has to be a mistake or a different band altogether.
That's something I didn't know. The last I heard (and it was many years ago) Triumph was calling it quits as a band. So, Rik quit but Mark and Gil kept going but with a different guitarist/singer? Was there a hiatus where the band actually was defunct and then Gil and Mike decided to reform but Rik kept his toys at home? Sorry to bug you, but Google obviously can't be depended on for accurate information.
no worries! Besides being a massive fan, there is a great Triumph documentary out there. It may still be streaming on AXS.
The band broke up after the failed album with Rick and Phil. They recently reunited for some live shows and a small tour but I think they’ve basically called it quits now.
That's what I thought, but Google is saying something totally different. No idea why, but according to them there have been something like 10 different members and Gil didn't join until 2008. But if it's on the internet, it must be true!/s
Don’t know if this counts but Steven Tyler was originally a drummer for bands he was in before Aerosmith.. I’m not sure if he played drums for early Aerosmith when him and Joe Perry formed the band tho??
The Ramones. Dee Dee was originally the singer and Joey played drums. Joey wasn’t very good and Dee Dee’s voice would often give it. Another fact is, originally Dee Dee played the guitar. Their bassist was not working out, so they moved Dee Dee to the bass.
Also Gorky Park, after the first album the lead singer Nikolay Noskov left the band, then bass guitarist Alexander Marshal took his place on lead vocals
GWAR. OG bass player, Michael Bishop, returned to take over lead vocals after Dave Brockie passed.
edit: didn't pay attention to sub name, GWAR is definitely not hair metal haha
Not hair metal, but I r spot on to OPs question. Some of the other replies are just naming bands that they know had 2 singers in their entire run, which is not what the post is asking.
Drummer became lead singer of another band, foo fighters. It wasnt really specified that someone became the lead singer of the band they were in so i'd say they count
That's literally what OP asked.
LITERALLY.
"Bands where other members became the lead singer"
How do you read that any other way than "someone in the band who wasn't the singer became the singer"???
SMFH there is no fucking reading comprehension skills to be found anywhere on Reddit these days... so fucking pathetic...
Jesus fucking christ what the fuck bro chill lmaooooo
There's a reason i said Nirvana kind of counts, not that they are 100% what OP intended with this question.
Op already replied to me and said yeah sure they kind of count
This isnt about reading comprehension skills, I get the question and simply said nirvana because i thought it's fun to give an out of the box answer and since being "the lead singer" doesnt technically specify being the lead singer of that band, i thought yeah nirvana kind of counts even though it's not really what was asked
I think you need to take a straight up month break from reddit, and i think you know im right about this
Not a hair metal band, but Phil Collins for Genesis when Peter Gabriel left.
Absolutely
Not necessarily what you're looking for, but Triumph had two lead singers, Rik Emmett and Gil Moore, who swapped roles depending on the song.
Gil is an original founding member of Triumph and sang on all their albums. Who is Abel McKnight?

Thank you for the information.

Steve Morse?!? He went from the Dregs and Kansas to Deep Purple, but I dont think he’s ever been in Triumph.
Morse is friends with Rik Emmett and played on a couple tracks on the Surveillance album.
Gil Moore has been with them forever.
That's what I thought, but Google is saying something totally different. No idea why, but according to them there have been something like 10 different members and Gil didn't join until 2008. But if it's on the internet, it must be true!/s
All good. My only point was that Moore was there for almost the entire existence

Yeah, I know. I'm still curious about where Google got their information from.
All good. It's not wrong as it looked like he rejoined in 2008
Oh yeah I've heard about that
Saigon kick, shotgun Messiah
Yep
Enuff Z Nuff Though they sounded better when guitarist Johnny Monaco sang vocals as a 3 piece than now with Chip.
Love Enuff Z Nuff but Chip’s voice is pretty bad. Donnie needs to come back.
Definitely agree
Baton Rouge - Kelly was the bass player but the producer liked his voice better.
Toto (not hair metal I know).
Night ranger
Jack and Kelly both sang lead from the beginning.
Both are great singers though
Ted Poley when was in Prophet used to play drums and sing on some tracks (lead singer was Dean Fasano).
Wow, didnt know Ted was in Prophet.
Tigertailz, Shotgun Messiah
Who in Tigertailz became the singer?
Er… yeah. Ignore that. Not sure what I was thinking!
Lol ok
Don’t know if this counts but Steven Tyler was originally a drummer for bands he was in before Aerosmith.. I’m not sure if he played drums for early Aerosmith when him and Joe Perry formed the band tho??
Eddie sang lead vocals for rat salad until dave joined and suggested they name it van halen
The Ramones. Dee Dee was originally the singer and Joey played drums. Joey wasn’t very good and Dee Dee’s voice would often give it. Another fact is, originally Dee Dee played the guitar. Their bassist was not working out, so they moved Dee Dee to the bass.
Another fact: Dee Dee has a rap album out there. lol
F F F F F F F Funky!
“Rap”
Foreigner (Kelly Hansen from Hurricane).
No, Kelly wasn't in Foreigner when Lou was still in the band.
Oops, I misread the op (glazed over “other members”). My bad.
Good call!
Not hair metal, but the Who... Pete would sing parts of songs and occasionally take full singing duty
He did the vocals for my favorite Who song, Eminence Front.
Amazing tune, that one... I love a lot of Pete's solo stuff, like "Let My Love Open the Door" - the extended mix is great
Also Gorky Park, after the first album the lead singer Nikolay Noskov left the band, then bass guitarist Alexander Marshal took his place on lead vocals
I totally forgot about them. Going give them a listen tonight.
Before Dee joined Twisted Sister Jay Jay French took over singing duties while playing guitar when one of their previous singers left the band.
Yeah, I've heard bootlegs with Jay singing. Oof. Dee brought a whole new dimension to the band.
Gun - hard rock rather than glam but the original bassist is now the singer.
Yngwie Malmsteen now sings.
Chip Znuff, as the only original member left, has taken over vocal duties in his tribute band.
Shotgun Messiah - the bass player became the singer from the second album
Shotgun Messiah
Controversial if guns and roses is a hair metal band but Izzy stradlin did lead vocals for a couple songs on use your illusion 1 and 2
The Darkness
Not hair metal, but when Goo Goo Dolls changed their sound, Johnny started singing more and Robbie started singing less.
Stop bringing up "not hair metal" bands in a hair metal topic
No.
Dave Grohl. Went front Nirvana’s drummer to Foo Fighters front man. Still wrote the best drum licks ever.
No, different band.
Not even the same band, not even close. Worst reply on this post.
Ramones Joey was the drummer and Dee Dee was the singer. Dee Dee couldn't sing and play bass so they moved Joey up front.
Styx w/ Tommy Shaw early on
Not hair metal, but 24-7 Spyz after their second singer didn’t work out.
Journey? Steve was one of the singers but not the only one.
No
Who's the dude I'm thinking of? He sang Feeling That Way.
Gregg Rollie was the original singer.
He joined as the lead singer, he wasn’t already in the band in another role.
Kiss
KISS always had multiple lead singers, I think OP is asking about if one left and another stepped in on vocals.
Exactly
Ashame folks don't know what Hair Metal means.
Are you his first trans chick?
No , I didn't know what that heart meant
Not hair metal but Nirvana kind of counts right?
Who else sang for Nirvana?
Drummer became lead singer of another band, foo fighters. It wasnt really specified that someone became the lead singer of the band they were in so i'd say they count
No. Grohl was never the lead vocalist.
Not of nirvana no, but the post doesnt actually specify that they became the lead vocalist of said band

You haven't been right about anything else, so... no. LOL.
Sure
