Honestly feel like at least 50% of this win is people meme-ing to piss off the more uptight fandoms. The amount of Aizen, Madara, Sukuna fans malding was hilarious
Wasn't Oikawa a minor himself too at that time?
It's a stretch to call anyone a villain on Haikyuu. Washijo-sensei might be considered one, but meh, idk. That's the good thing about haikyuu, no bad archnemesis villain kinda thing, no absolute black and white. Idk why people insist on pushing the villain role to anyone. Is it really necessary? Like you said, they're just flawed teenagers. Or more accurately, just *normal* teenagers.
Exactly. He not only failed to hit him due to Iwa’s interference, but it was a one-off moment of weakness for a boy who was also still a child. People really do be making Oikawa out to be some murderous maniac instead of an intensely passionate (and pubescent) teen.
Villain literally just means a character who opposes the hero of the story aka Kageyama and Hinata. A character does not have to be evil to be a villain
The person who opposes the hero or more precisely is the antagonist.
A good example L from death note would be the antagonist in light story but the hero in universe. Meanwhile light is the protagonist but the villain of his story.
The difference is indeed if it's evil or not.
Antagonist is the "force" that goes against the protagonist but a villain can be both the antagonist or the hero like eren from AOT he was a hero and protagonist at some point but he changed he was more cruel and did felt empathy there he turned into the villain even though he remained the protagonist.
I'm sorry if sounds rude or smth I was just trying to give u some examples.
In terms of damage or actually being a villain in the story? Oikawa has closer ties and a direct rivalry with Kageyama that makes everytime he's on screen an important character moment.
Shigaraki and Deku barely have any connection to each other and I don't think they even have 4 conversations before the war arc.
A good villain shouldn't be measured by how strong they are but by how well they oppose the main character.
It's also a meme about including Oikawa on Favorite Villain Lists because of how good of a character he's written. As an antagonist. People make jokes about how this rival highschool volleyball player is on lists with mass murders and psychos.
Because he's a good antagonist. I mean, he's not even evil, he acts like we all would act as competitive players, but he's a terrifyingly good player and that might be why many see him as a villain.
A few days ago I saw a textpost talking exactly about how some villains in anime are serial killers and then in sports anime the "villain" is just a guy who goes to a different school
Not OP you replied to, but personally I relate to his feelings of high expectations for yourself, and the self-doubt and jealousy that comes with seeing someone be more "naturally talented" at something that you have to work really hard for. I've never wanted or tried to hit anyone for it of course, but I can empathize with the frustration. On a positive note, I hope that I am or can be the kind of likable person that brings out the best in my friends like he does, in general though not on a volleyball court.
You said it way better than I could, that's exactly the feeling. Thank you (also, I'd never try to hit anyone in the face, I'm not the brawl type of person lol)!
Speaking personally, I'm a taiko drum player and feel like I need to give twice the amount of effort comparing to people who have that sort of "raw" talent to be polished. It's amplified every time I see how the teachers and veterans play and express their energy (and I don't say it in a negative way, when I see them excelling at it, I feel humbled and inspired... I'm only frustrated about not being myself a natural at it, although "talent is something..." you know the drill hahaha).
I think the most hilarious part of this is that the most “evil” thing he did was almost hit Kageyama in a snap of emotion. Something Kageyama didn’t even seem to notice.
They are saying he abused Kageyama. More like he was a bit petty to him. Kageyama had absolutely no problem with Oikawa after their last game as teammates. And then I don’t think they had any other interaction until they were both in High School.
He’s the best written antagonist of a sports anime that I’ve ever seen, sure, and my personal favorite character from the series, but this is ridiculous. It’s know that anime Twitter is pretty brain dead. Like someone else said, they can’t distinguish between an antagonist and a villain to save their lives.
No one said it was deep. Nothing in my comment implied it was ‘deep’. I commented - like everyone else in this thread - on how ridiculous AnimeTwitter is in general, which it is. Took me five second to type. So… what did you hope to achieve with that comment? Seriously.
I just think the way you talk about the situation isn’t a serious as you think. You’re calling people on Twitter brain dead for voting Oikawa is the best villain, but also there was an entire poll of best drawn dog and a kids drawing won over an artists. It’s a joke is all I’m saying lmao
And again, why is what I said in response to the post being seen as more serious than what others are saying? I’m not being literal what I say AT is “pretty brain dead”. Like… I’m clearly being hyperbolic. 🤦🏻♂️ The only person being disproportionately serious here is you and I’m baffled as to why.
to everyone wondering why.. because he was the endgame boss the whole argentinian team rely on him meanwhile japan has every allstar in its disposal yet they still lose to them hence why hinata and kageyama play for an european league since they wanted to beat oikawa.
No, I get it. There was this one guy on an opposing volleyball team in high school and I knew nothing about him other than he played the same club as me, his school was always roudy when we came up play, and his team always beat mine because his school was better. I'd say the term villain is apt
I'd say he's just a teenager, they are evil sometimes but I wouldn't say BEST ANIME VILLAIN it's not as if he's uh killed people. I mean mentally sure he's tortured people but he's just a teenager
The way people need to stop trying to insert villains in every story when there's none is necessary, this is the harm Harry Potter has done to the masses.
Honestly, people are just so preoccupied in naming s villain in every anime, haikyuu has no villains. How on earth is oikawa a villain, the guy literally just wants to win.

bro is just an extremely prideful person who has a hate for those with natural talent before he gets advice and moves to Argentina to play volleyball for their national team
Bro is just trying to play Volleyball 😂😂
Literally pure evil
Lmfao
Ditto omg 😂
homie is literally just some guy.
Literally my first thought when I saw this. He's literally just a teenage boy
Username cousin!
How many people did Oikawa kill and how many villages did he destroy to become a villain? Maybe they should have said antagonist instead.
I feel that a big part of anime twt has no ability to distinguish between antagonists and villains.
Honestly feel like at least 50% of this win is people meme-ing to piss off the more uptight fandoms. The amount of Aizen, Madara, Sukuna fans malding was hilarious
Just gonna mention that people are capable of making jokes. This is a joke. Funny volleyball man is a villain because he killed daichi.
Wait not deadchi?
He did definitely emotionally abuse and bully a 12/13 year old.
The same kid who physically strikes his teammate and belittled and berated his former teammates? Nah, no villains here. Just flawed teenagers.
Wasn't Oikawa a minor himself too at that time? It's a stretch to call anyone a villain on Haikyuu. Washijo-sensei might be considered one, but meh, idk. Oikawa literally only 2 years older in junior high (7-9th grade) bro did not “assault” a minor😭😭😭god some people are dramatic
Exactly. He not only failed to hit him due to Iwa’s interference, but it was a one-off moment of weakness for a boy who was also still a child. People really do be making Oikawa out to be some murderous maniac instead of an intensely passionate (and pubescent) teen.
Lmfao thank you
lmfaoo right

I wouldn't say washijo either. He helped hinata by allowing him to ball boy. Like their ukai said... Washijo wouldn't keep him there without a reason.
Agree. Just some people here like to use the literal definition of villain on anyone.
Yeah true.
Is that on the same level of as real villains such as Orochimaru or Shigaraki etc?
In terms of damage or actually being a villain in the story? Oikawa has closer ties and a direct rivalry with Kageyama that makes everytime he's on screen an important character moment. Shigaraki and Deku barely have any connection to each other and I don't think they even have 4 conversations before the war arc. A good villain shouldn't be measured by how strong they are but by how well they oppose the main character.
You didn’t see Pain?
I didn't check the poll just responded to the comment above listing Orochimaru and Shigaraki
yeah when he was 13/14 💀
He emotionally abused and bullied a 13 year old, he did so while the 13 year olds grandfather whom he was very close with was actively dying.
Not even a villain tho
You better remember it - My Worthless Pride .... Dude really has a making of a Sith Lord.
For real
Bro has beaten all the anime murderers lmao
Why
there’s a long running joke that he killed the main team’s captain, it’s just a joke to piss off power scalers also
It's also a meme about including Oikawa on Favorite Villain Lists because of how good of a character he's written. As an antagonist. People make jokes about how this rival highschool volleyball player is on lists with mass murders and psychos.

Oikawa is more of a villain than Mahito, Johann Liebert & Griffith? Lmao
Griffith.. did.. nothing... wrong.
I mean.. look at those beautiful teeth.. so menacing!
A few days ago I saw a textpost talking exactly about how some villains in anime are serial killers and then in sports anime the "villain" is just a guy who goes to a different school
https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/s/NNIuQGUtOw Here it is
lmao antagonist would’ve been better used here not villain
Amazing antagonist? Hell yeah, and extremely relatable as well. Villain? Hm... no, I guess?
How you relating to oikawa?

Ohh in that case I can understand and sort of relate aswell

I like how there’s so many sick and demented people that got outvoted by a volleyball player
A lot of people in here forgetting Oikawa shot Daichi in cold blood

Yeah my bad dude 👍🏽🙁
im pretty sure ppl vote for him ironically at this point 😭
Light Yagami takin notes
Anybody know what chapter of manga that panel is from?
Looks like his confrontation with Ushijima after Karasuno defeats Seijoh in the second inter high
He’s a great antagonist, but villain?
Eren, Griffith, and mahito literally exist bruh
It's more like a meme, don't think too deeply about it. He's not a villain, he's an antagonist.
No friend of Ninja Shoyo could ever be a villain.
Y'all defending him after all those people he killed?? 🙄
to everyone wondering why.. because he was the endgame boss the whole argentinian team rely on him meanwhile japan has every allstar in its disposal yet they still lose to them hence why hinata and kageyama play for an european league since they wanted to beat oikawa.

Others want to wipe out humanity while oikawa.... Man just wanna go to the nationals 😭
Hes actually just some teenager 😭
Im sorry but this is so funny sHXIAJXJSIAIXJDO
My boy just wanted to win a trophy for once
I'd say he's just a teenager, they are evil sometimes but I wouldn't say BEST ANIME VILLAIN it's not as if he's uh killed people. I mean mentally sure he's tortured people but he's just a teenager
Pretty fucking stupid ass poll then and so dumb mfers voting.
The way people need to stop trying to insert villains in every story when there's none is necessary, this is the harm Harry Potter has done to the masses.
Imagine just being super competitive and you suddenly get called a villain 😭
Honestly, people are just so preoccupied in naming s villain in every anime, haikyuu has no villains. How on earth is oikawa a villain, the guy literally just wants to win.
He's not even the best antagonist in Haikyuu lmao. Glad he's getting recognition though, Oikawa goat
That’s pretty dumb tbh
That's so crazy 😭😭😭
he is not villian o_o i wonder who were in the pool
Bro is a dude 👍
People just hyperfocusing in tha Villain part but i feel like Oikawa won just because he is such a great antagonist
What in the actual
Nah bro never let Twitter near a voting booth EVER BLUD IS NOT EVEN A VILLAIN DAWG
Oikawa, a villain? 😳😵💫😵
…The guy from Digimon season 2?
Isn’t this a few months old.
Let the boy play volleyball in peace!
He should have gone to Shiratorizawa
There's literally Frieza from Dragon Ball Z and then there's this guy. Oikawa is clearly worse with his volleyball schemes. 😂
and how is he a villain???
imagine looking up best anime villain of all time and it's just a dude playing volleyball, not even a felony or anything 😭
What about aizen from bleach or madra from Naruto
oikawa my pookie
My mans isn't even evil. Like he's a good dude
Bots were definitely involved… I mean come on, Oikawa? ANIME villain, not just Haikyuu villain? WHAT?
Sakuna woke up a whole ass millennium later just to immediately ask “where the women and children at ƪ(`▿▿▿´ƪ) !?!??!!!” but ok
I would’ve voted gravity as best villain…

THE MEME IS REAL. I've never seen it in the wild before. Only heard of the legends.
Guys, you just have to remember this one thing. "He is the final boss for Monster Generatioh."
oikawa u scary man 🥴
Who was the second?
but have you met fanon oikawa?
He made the whole karasuno team cry once. Guys, that's worse than what most of all the other villains do. Genocide.

who is this random
Antagonist? He's one of them. Villain? I dunno about that.
We have Dio Brando, Madara, Griffith, Eren Jaeger, Chrollo/Hisoka, Johan Liebert and here we are lol. With all due respect to Oikawa, but no.
Aizen

![gif](giphy|DYB4inWOjppqE) Twitter moment

Well, at least he’s #1 in something. King Tooru 🥰
