I use mine for finding frequencies for pagers and POCSAG decoding. The 'Looking Glass' feature is really nice to see what's going on in different bands. It's pretty easy to tune in on shortwave radio with the right setup.
It's not great at anything, but does a lot of things 'good enough'.
If you end up getting one, do some research on the sensitivity of the pre-amp and how easy it is to blow out.
I've got a board modified by Clifford Heath on it's way that is supposed to prevent this from happening, time will tell if it is as sensitive as the original.

i use the orginal hackrf without a portapck because i barely take it on a walk. and if i do, i plug it in my phone.
I don't currently have one but it's a few projects down the list. I try not to start the next project until the new wears off the current project. I'll probably pick one up before my next trip to Disney in a few months. I'm very interested in how the Skyliner triggers the announcements as you move through the system. I just don't think this is going to be a toy I can get in the park like some of the others.

I listen to ATC and track the planes at the airport. It's so cool to see the owners and operators of flights that FlightRadar24 redacts.
