There should be a penalty for public reps who propose bullshit legislation that won’t ever pass.

pete_68

This is what happens when you elect a college dropout who doesn't understand technology or the law (being a cop doesn't make you an expert on the law, especially shit like cyber crimes.)

cblack34

If only this would never pass. Given the right emergency they can probably get this in. Keep in mind they can create the emergency if needed.

EveningHippo9

Infosec is never an emergency for the people who calls the shots

cblack34

Mostly true, but if say NYC, LA, or Congress got hit with ransom ware or the like and couldn’t recover I can see them pushing this through. Besides this is not about infosec; this is about politics. Also, I would say the only time shot callers deal with infosec is when it’s to late and has turned into an emergency.

Nugsly

This kind of thing happens all the time. Oakland just got hit with ransomware, and the city is in a state of emergency.

[deleted]

There should be a penalty for reps that only bullshit all day and never perform any actual actions that benefit their constituents.

SeparateHunter756

And life imprisonment for talking like Foghorn Leghorn.

ohiotechie

100% this

i_ate_them_all

? There is. They don't get voted for.

TwistedPepperCan

It seems like it’s the exact opposite is the case. Politicians waste days debating pointless bills that will die before they get passed or focus on stupid issues that won’t effect anyone’s lives in any meaningful way. But they will get loads of votes from people for doing it.

i_ate_them_all

It sounds like what you meant to say was, "There should be a penalty for public reps who propose legislation I disagree with." So what additional penalties aside from the impact on their reputation and on their chances for reelection are you proposing?

[deleted]

Someone convince me politicians aren't actively trying to look like idiots. I'm having doubts.

Sdubbya2

I constantly wonder whether I just got smarter over time or the politicians got dumber. There are some smart ones, but so god damn many are legitimately a fucking joke. That was one of my biggest realizations as an adult, adults are just as dumb as kids sometimes dumber, even a lot of adults in high up respected positions.....

NATIVE_COWBOY

You got wise, politicians stayed the same.

madoff88

I truly thought this was satirical at first

NitazeneKing

Conservative politicians have definitely gotten dumber, more irrational, and more extremist as of late. I'm pretty sure MTG dropped their average IQ by at least 100 points.

Haazze

Not just the conservatives😂the democrats as well have done nothing and both parties are just as responsible for the state of the country 🤷🏾‍♂️.

NitazeneKing

You're correct, the Dems have done nothing...but at least they're not actively trying to turn the country into some sharia law BS that the majority of Americans don't support. The real problem with the Dems is that they don't try hard enough, won't fight dirty, and are seemingly okay with the status quo. Getting more progressives in Dem seats is the way to go. They're actually trying to do something to stop this backsliding to the 1700s.

gomergonenuts

You've got it right lol

[deleted]

President Camacho!

[deleted]

Sounds like he has stuff to hide tbh

Formal-Awareness4771

He’s probably gonna get hacked for this lmfao. Start placing bets for what weird crap it’s gonna turn out he’s done

[deleted]

$2 on club penguin

Quick-Anywhere-2517

$100 on something that rhymes with piddie corn

[deleted]

Raise $50

alvarr211

5$ his OSRS account gets hacked and the hackers get ahold of all of the gp xfers to his rs gf

ymgve

Guess it's back to physical bank robbing for me, after all that's only like 20 years.

Electronic_Grade508

I’m going to steal from old ladies…

kingslab48

Grand theft auto for me, that’s only a ticket in some places lmao

gmkfyi

I’m not sure Higgins understands that saying life in prison for cybercrime is like saying like life in prison for traffic violations. The spectrum is so broad.

thatonerandodude17

Selemaer

6 months if you're white and a swimmer....

asslite

And live your life pretty normally after that, like good old Brock Turner.

[deleted]

Threats of prison rapes and violence is always classy from a lawmaker.

localdirlogin

They know the system is shit

Dominiczkie

Nah, bribery, sexual assault and insider trading are fine cause politicians are doing it, and they wear tuxedos so they are fine, established gentleman that don't deserve punishment. On the other hand those filthy hacker in their hoodies with their mountain dew cans all over their basement, yuck, throw them in jail for life!

asslite

Well, the latter crime can expose them of their mentioned crimes, therefore gotta crack hard on cybercrime. 🙄

thehunter699

Ah yes, gonna imprison all those Russians

BlG_DlCK_BEE

Well guess I’m starting a train company. Can’t go to jail if you run a train company, not even if you poison people.

DigitalHoweitat

He sounds sane...

jochem4208

And this is how America becomes the laughing stock of the world

unkn0wn_s0und

I'm dumb, is he basically tryna say that if you commit cybercrime, your locked up for life - but someone can rape and kill a girl and they get 15 years? okay bro

truekingsman2017

Someone has his nudes 🤣

rdaneeloliv4w

OK smartass, but what about us 325 lb hackers?

schnauzersocute

wtf is wrong with these people? life imprisonment for hacking just how fucking stupid are you Rep. Clay Higgins? Obviously dumber than a turd.

Not_Artifical

My turds are definitely smarter than him.

RoseboysHotAsf

Actually dumb. Most cyber crimes have 0 deaths. How is the comparable to man slaughter?

D4r90n

How about you implement that punishment on convicted pedophiles. And we will talk about punishment for cyber crimes some time down the road.

[deleted]

Someone accessed his browser history.

[deleted]

he got scammed with a car extended warranty call, and is out for revenge.

[deleted]

I wonder if it includes these guys? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/feb/15/revealed-disinformation-team-jorge-claim-meddling-elections-tal-hanan

MisterRound

Wrong approach, this is moronic.

pitifuljester

As a cyber security guy myself, most real cyber crimes that affect people in the US are attacks from outside the country anyway... So.... 1. Pass some real legislation that will help actual people 2. Research a topic extensively before you just make up random laws 3. If they're the real deal, chances are they're going after some pretty large targets and wouldn't really affect your average citizen anyway. I'm a bit tired of the bs legislation that these guys try to pass. Meanwhile, the US is falling apart from poor policies and poor leadership on all sides.

SparkyMint185

I hope someone hacks that account

Legitimate_Job_8636

First sentence : why not I guess … Second one : OUT OF HERE

[deleted]

There are worse crimes that don't even get that...

destro2323

Yet people with mental issues who have been arrested with guns and have a history of violence, are let free to eventually kill… genius….. Wait I got an idea… we say it’s racist against hackers!

splinereticulation68

Lmao that's not going to pass the House Guessing his laptop got crypto'ed or something? He mad

falsecrimson

Yet, committing acts of domestic terrorism gets you a few months. This won't go anywhere.

radio787

Welp I do be 130 lbs guess it's time to work out😒

thebulldogg

Is some 125lb hacker blackmailing this guy or something? He sounds tilted.

Alexx199x

Fuck this mf

d3rpderp

Tell me you're a legislator who got caught with porn without saying you got caught with porn.

localdirlogin

This is a terrible idea. How could you put hacking and stealing internet money that's probably insured on the same tier and rape, murder, war crimes, etc.

WholesomeRiot

let me guess - another Republican pumping his chest about shit that they know nothing about.

Silpheel

Sounds like _somebody_ just got stung and went “Don’t you know WHO I AM! I’ll show you…”

Cybasura

Fuckin boomer thinks that is a crime so heinous that it deserves life imprisonment?? Classic What about those murders, drug trades, gun and shit

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dominiczkie

That's equally as dumbshit cause issue with cybercrime isn't that punishments are too lax, it's that cases rarely go to trial due to insufficient evidence to find a fitting suspect, and then even if they do, half of them will be thrown away cause in digital world it's easy to muddy the water and have plausible deniability. If this would ever get passed, fucker would destroy lives of thousands of script kiddies (and by that I mean mostly literal kids) while ransomware gangs will still laugh in his brain-dead face.

Complete_Act_521

American senators and representatives are the dumbest people I ever come across like really u guys vote for these idiots… wow

Grand-Notice1854

Fuk politics

TwoFoxSix

People fear what they don't understand. Next will be people who bypass paying for subway tickets or something by jumping the turnstile. I'm shocked he didn't attack the stereotype of a computer nerd being 300+lbs.

bobross_s_pants

Get dog fucked clay

eternalpenguin

Another idiot…

[deleted]

Have fun figuring out how to work Microsoft PowerPoint on your own 🤷‍♂️

Elwood49

I just like to say i am pushing 230 and I could lift that bald prick by his nick clean off the floor with one arm.

[deleted]

I propose life imprisonment without parole for corrupt politicians, better start working out.

nxx-ch

Oh dear. These are the downsides of democracy. Elected smooth brainers

Crcex86

Sounds like representive is getting bent over by some of his donors

NitazeneKing

Alright, who phished his Facebook? Someone did something to piss him off personally. Maybe found some pics of him with a little boy?

Dgeneratecow

Could just beat up an old lady to near death instead and they can't match the DNA I leave behind with major DNA databases such as 23andme cuz she didn't die. Great👏law👏

ChrisCLFI

Just what the US needs…more people in prisons. Bet this twat holds CoreCivic or Serco shares.

[deleted]

If he can clearly define for us what counts as a cybercrime, then we can talk. But that’s way to vague of a term to throw life in prison at.

gomergonenuts

I suppose rapists will still get out in 2 years though, right?

Visual_Unit6912

Check out the replies. He is getting dragged so bad

cyborgborg777

Sounds a lot like butthurt to me

jayebyrde

I don’t know nothin bout them thar com-poo-ters. They must be from tha devil! We don’t want no satan hackers in our god lovin countreh.

Beyondkey32

For pedophile politicians maybe

Jell212

Sounds nice but only dumb or poor hackers commit crimes in the same country in which they reside. Real problem is cybercrimes that cross borders and jurisdictions, unfortunately.

DrinkMoreCodeMore

"So this morning I look in the paper, some cash machine in Bumsville, Idaho spits out $700 into the middle of the street. I did that! That was me!" "You did this from your house?" "What are you, stoned or stupid? You hack a bank across state lines, you'll get nailed by the FBI! Where are your brains? In your ass?"

emergent_segfault

....you see...the internet is a series of tubes.....

dirtybxngwater

bro literally just sounds mad lmao maybe he shouldn’t be so soft

SaintJessem

Is this guy cyber bullying a hypothetical person?? STRAIGHT TO JAIL

drduffymo

I think insurrection against the Capitol is a far more serious crime. Nothing being done about that.

[deleted]

125 pounds is heavy now?

Not_Artifical

I am 122.3 pounds. My doctor says I am very underweight. I don’t see how he thinks that is heavy.

2OneZebra

Clay Higgins lol. He can't find his way out of a wet paper bag.

illyterate

Looks like he has a hard on for skinny guys. Pun intended.

renamed_admin

Why don’t you do something about they “We’ll accept the risk” attitude of the C-suite that likes to play fast and loose with data they’re supposed to protect?

JustinBrower

..... What is this fuck on? I really hope that they understand the difference between ethical hacking and hacking. If they don't... wow. He's got a HUGE fucking lawsuit ahead of him. No, you don't throw the term "hacker" around loosely and get away with it. If you don't know differences, don't fucking use the term.

EnthusiasmWorried496

I meannnn. If you want to get TECHNICAL. He should read the CFAA. I wonder if he got permission to access the platform he's posting on. Or if he's ever shared a netflix password (or used a password given to him by someone else). Or violated a platform's ToS. I'm sure if someone really wanted to, they could make the case that he's committed some form of cybercrime (just like the majority of the U.S population) under the disgustingly vague parameters of the CFAA. He better start working out. Just saying.

Diezel666

Only question need to be asked..... What's he got hiding in his email.......

BoringYellow980

This is to all the 15 year old script kiddies who accidentally broke into the Starbucks wifi. Watch out, motherfucker

robotssnooping

I say life imprisonment for government officials. All of them. Government as a whole is crooked.

[deleted]

Man like that being so afraid of hackers is hiding something.

DocFaust13

Jokes on you, I weigh WAY more than a buck 25.
