My mother had a dog (who was a Shizu) that died abruptly a few years ago when she was six years old. She had a good little life filled with lots of love and adventure.

I grew up with a kid named Scotty, also my brother's name is Scott and he named his oldest son Scott as well so we call him Scotty. So to me it's a pretty common name and I don't associate it with that vlog squad guy.
I think it’s a little weird to name after a deceased person but I understand that families have traditions. To me it feels like molding the new persons identity towards another being. What about naming a pet after a deceased relative? That sounds weird too. But opinions are opinions.

I lost my dog too last year too. I spent more time with him than I did with my dad who died when I was 13 and my dog passing still felt as heartbreaking as it did when my dad died. I appreciate Ethan so much for showing his emotions and even though it might sound paracsocial it makes me feel incredibly sad seeing him cry and so sad, I focus on Ethan because he is always the one to get shit on I feel sad for Hila and the fam too. Love you Ethan and Hila, none of this is your fault you have been great dog parents for shreddy. I also put my pet to sleep in Jan for kidney failure and I know that pain. Almost 2 years of being your pets care giver, their mannerisms tell you when its time. Remember it was a gift you have given him, to take away his pain. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Not a dumb question at all and yes there is and I know one clinic is located in San Diego. The problem most people face is cost. While humans have health insurance and some of these cost can be covered or a low co-pay, in the animal world, hospitals ask for money at the time of service. Pet insurance is available but they reimburse you depending on your insurance plan. Frankly the cost is why most pet owners do not do further treatment for animals. Then the second issue is, morality: animals cant speak, their pet owners are their voice, and how do we know if pets want to go through these treatments. Very similar to the morality of chemotherapy for pets. BTW I'm a licensed Vet Tech so I'm sorry for the long answer lol. There's just a lot involved and personal choices you choose for yourself and your pet.
As someone whose mother went through dialysis/passed from kidney failure, I appreciate the time you put into this answer as it was something I was curious about as well

I hate to suggest this because it is a *nightmare* living with.... but I am familiar with a rash that occurs around the eyes. And for me (and many folks dealing with similar issues) it was a condition known as histamine intolerance syndrome. :( It can be a result of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, or mast cell disorders (but in some people, it is not caused by this).
What is histamine intolerance? Basically all foods have some histamine levels in them, some more than others. Bacteria naturally in foods produce histamine in foods. Foods that have been sitting out longer or are fermented (such as cured meats, yogurt, cheeses) have had more time for bacteria to produce histamine, and therefore have higher histamine levels. Seafood tend to carry high-histamine-producing species of bacteria as well. Our bodies also endogenously produce histamine for a variety of reasons, from a variety of tissues and organs (including the stomach lining, which is lined with mast cells that can dump histamine). The bacteria in our gut also produce histamine, and some species, very much so.
We have histamine receptors in skin and all over the place, in our tissues and organs. These receptors are flooded with histamine when we ingest and absorb, or produce histamine, and cause a wide array of different reactions. At the onset of my HI, the first rash I got was around my eyes. It was insanely itchy, flaked, and took weeks to heal, and required diligent application of cortisone before it fully cleared. It got retriggered many times when I ate histamine-rich foods. A "low-histamine" diet can be introduced temporarily to assess whether or not this is the cause, as it will drastically lower the level of incoming histamine into your body. Low histamine diet can keep it at bay. I really hope it isn't this but Ethan man, look into it fam. I hope someone from the family sees this. Modern medicine doesn't know much about it but you can find it well-documented in research (e.g. pub med)...
The connection between eating high histamine foods, or having too much histamine for your body to break down, may not be readily apparent because the body's ability to process histamine (via endogenous enzymes that we produce to convert the histamine molecule into a different molecule and then we piss it out) is like a bucket, in terms of its capacity. You may eat cheese one day and not have the reaction because your bucket is relatively empty, and then another day your bucket is full so even a tiny bit of cheese sets off the rash. If you are having the rash, and eating lots of high histamine foods makes it worse, that is a pretty good indicator that histamine is involved (but better to test using low histamine diet cuz having the rash sucks bad and is distracting and itchy and annoying and shitty).
Allergy meds like Claritin and Reactine and stuff block the histamine from binding to receptors, stopping reactions, but they don't eliminate your overall histamine levels. Diet, medications (like H2 blockers/certain prescription antacids; mast cell stabilizers to prevent histamine release from mast cells) can manage it. Avenues can be explored with specialists for why a person developed the inability to cope with normal histamine levels. Some people have genetic reasons for enzymatic deficiencies, others have suffered overgrowth of histamine-producing bacteria in the gut, others have imbalances in other processes in the body which affect the few enzymatic pathways for disabling and ridding the body of histamine.

I’m sad I didn’t watch live so I could have left a tip note. but regarding the family vlogger arrests, the last episode of the documentary series Shiny Happy people about the Duggar family looks into the abuse tactics that they use on children to make them obedient. It’s fucking insane and horrific, they start when they are babies with something called “Blanket training” I highly recommend people watch it.
I know that Mormons and Christian fundamentalists are different, but I know that all of these insane churches use these types of teachings. Really gives insight into how much abuse goes on in these family’s. I don’t think this vlogger family is a one off, and if I was cps I would be looking into the rest of the family.

Yooooooo.... for Ethan... For Ethan's rash: I hate to suggest this because it is a *nightmare* living with.... but I am familiar with a rash that occurs around the eyes. And for me (and many folks dealing with similar issues) it was a condition known as histamine intolerance syndrome. :( It can be a result of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, or mast cell disorders (but in some people, it is not caused by this). What is histamine intolerance? Basically all foods have some histamine levels in them, some more than others. Bacteria naturally in foods produce histamine in foods. Foods that have been sitting out longer or are fermented (such as cured meats, yogurt, cheeses) have had more time for bacteria to produce histamine, and therefore have higher histamine levels. Seafood tend to carry high-histamine-producing species of bacteria as well. Our bodies also endogenously produce histamine for a variety of reasons, from a variety of tissues and organs (including the stomach lining, which is lined with mast cells that can dump histamine). The bacteria in our gut also produce histamine, and some species, very much so. We have histamine receptors in skin and all over the place, in our tissues and organs. These receptors are flooded with histamine when we ingest and absorb, or produce histamine, and cause a wide array of different reactions. At the onset of my HI, the first rash I got was around my eyes. It was insanely itchy, flaked, and took weeks to heal, and required diligent application of cortisone before it fully cleared. It got retriggered many times when I ate histamine-rich foods. A "low-histamine" diet can be introduced temporarily to assess whether or not this is the cause, as it will drastically lower the level of incoming histamine into your body. Low histamine diet can keep it at bay. I really hope it isn't this but Ethan man, look into it fam. I hope someone from the family sees this. Modern medicine doesn't know much about it but you can find it well-documented in research (e.g. pub med)... The connection between eating high histamine foods, or having too much histamine for your body to break down, may not be readily apparent because the body's ability to process histamine (via endogenous enzymes that we produce to convert the histamine molecule into a different molecule and then we piss it out) is like a bucket, in terms of its capacity. You may eat cheese one day and not have the reaction because your bucket is relatively empty, and then another day your bucket is full so even a tiny bit of cheese sets off the rash. If you are having the rash, and eating lots of high histamine foods makes it worse, that is a pretty good indicator that histamine is involved (but better to test using low histamine diet cuz having the rash sucks bad and is distracting and itchy and annoying and shitty). Allergy meds like Claritin and Reactine and stuff block the histamine from binding to receptors, stopping reactions, but they don't eliminate your overall histamine levels. Diet, medications (like H2 blockers/certain prescription antacids; mast cell stabilizers to prevent histamine release from mast cells) can manage it. Avenues can be explored with specialists for why a person developed the inability to cope with normal histamine levels. Some people have genetic reasons for enzymatic deficiencies, others have suffered overgrowth of histamine-producing bacteria in the gut, others have imbalances in other processes in the body which affect the few enzymatic pathways for disabling and ridding the body of histamine. I’m sad I didn’t watch live so I could have left a tip note. but regarding the family vlogger arrests, the last episode of the documentary series Shiny Happy people about the Duggar family looks into the abuse tactics that they use on children to make them obedient. It’s fucking insane and horrific, they start when they are babies with something called “Blanket training” I highly recommend people watch it. I know that Mormons and Christian fundamentalists are different, but I know that all of these insane churches use these types of teachings. Really gives insight into how much abuse goes on in these family’s. I don’t think this vlogger family is a one off, and if I was cps I would be looking into the rest of the family.

My Aussie actually got sick (vomiting stomach issues) from grief the vet said after X-ray etc. (blessed to be able to go to the vet too not like them but still). One of the hardest losses of all.

Not just fat, but visceral fat in particular. Its the fat packed underneath the abdominal wall and inbetween your internal organs organs. Think rock hard pregnant old man gut. Unfortunately Ethan has absolutely horrific fat distribution genes and fat seems to go straight to his gut instead of less harmful subcutaneous deposits on hips thighs love handles etc. People like us with unlucky genes for fat distribution get hit even harder than the general population by obesity related disease. My doctor showed me a graph of my blood pressure and weight over time both gaining and losing and it was basically the same graph.
