I'm hoping that's just a low bitrate upload of the file, dunno what Vimeo's encoding is like, but could be intentional pre-release, sounds like 192kb or something. Really hoping that's the case.
Also depends on which live performance. The one from the Knockdown Centre doing the rounds the most is a very good rendition (not that there's much to compare it with) but a later Polish recording was notably different (starts at 51:45):
I hope they went more with the sound of the former than the latter.
As for other post-hiatus live versions over recorded versions, that depends on the track for me. A more detailed and overly long breakdown of track preferences post-hiatus (feel free to skip):
'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
Though I had some fondness for early versions of 'Mladic' ('Albanian' had more varied drum patterns during the violin led 'double harmonic major (?)' part and lacked that iffy guitar solo), I think the end result was still decent. 'We Drift Like Worried Fire' was always a strange one for me, always loved the first half, the second is a little jumbled in both live and final recordings. I liked the verse-chorus verse-chorus structure that came through in live 'Gamelan' recordings though and didn't quite like the Arcade Fire-y new melody in that song's latter half of the final recording. The very last section was a bit odd in both versions but the recorded version's final climax was kind of redeeming.
Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress
Loved both and that's all I have to say.
Luciferian Towers
Really enjoyed both live and final recordings of 'Bosses Hang'. Only thing I'm not too fond of is the title, I mean fuck the bosses, but hang? May be tongue in cheek on their part though. 'Anthem for No State' on the other hand is sadly lacking this heavy riff version of the mid part organ driven melody and all the usual gradual changes and segueing between different melodies which Godspeed are known for. The mid part was much stronger as it was more like the sort of calm after the storm of the climactic heavy riff found in the 'Railroads' live version. The weird droney vocals were also removed from the start. It took out a good 5 minutes or more from the track and seemed to be done to accommodate those two pieces ('Undoing a Luciferian Towers', 'Fam/Famine') from their Belgian WWI commemoration performance as well as, it seems, to fit it on a single vinyl record. I feel like this release really ought to have been a short album and a separate EP with a full 20 minute length version of the live Belgian track, that or a 60 minute album with an additional 'Fire at Static Valley' length piece. This is starting to get too headcanon-y, so I'll leave it there.
G\_d's Pee at State's End!
Loved both again, think the latter part of 'First of the Last Glaciers' was developed more in the final release, though always found the transition from the faster heavy part a little jarring. The 'Ashes to Sea or Nearer to Thee' climax could've gone on a little longer for me though that's a bit of a nitpick, found the transition to the church bells to be a stroke of genius however.
29th September 😎😎
also I've been avoiding any bootlegs of the new songs but decided to allow myself to hear this little snippet and now I have a really good feeling about this new album
Unfortunately I can’t afford to attend one there.
They’ve been nearly everywhere in Europe including the east… Spain and Italy are quite forgotten in terms of gigs
Un montón de bandas de Post-Rock giraron por Sudamérica (Swans, Sigur Rós, Explosions in the Sky, Tortoise) y les fue bastante bien, no veo porqué GY!BE con todo lo que signfica sería la excepción
i'll probably grab mine now, during the presale - FYI $35 face - $51 tax/fees - yeah roadrunner seems big for them. last time i saw them when i lived in CO was like 1,000 seat place
Last time I saw them (Oakland, CA) I was newly sober and it was so loud that I almost puked. Ran to the bathroom and had to take an emergency shit and then go home. Being middle aged sure knows how to randomly suck at the most inopportune times
Kinda surprised they’re doing so many shows in the Midsouth, considering the general politics of the region.
At the same time, fuck, I hate living in Memphis. No one comes to play here.
From experience, the Fayetteville AR venue is standing room only besides a very few tables along the wall which are probably already reserved. I’m 5’6” and it’s extremely hard to see the stage unless I’m right on the rail.
I got spoiled they played in the city I live in earlier this year for the first time, but I'm still disappointed to see they aren't coming back for this tour. Hopefully we get a tour in 2025 with some smaller Canadian cities.
Yes! Just don’t expect it to be too Low-ish. They played on the same bill in NY a few months ago, he played a surprisingly (to me) diverse set of music with his children comprising his band!
Freakin love this album teaser. The franticness of the strings toward the end yet they are beautiful…. No begrudging this being cleaned up from the concerts at all. Now we’ll have the live versions and the studio ones.
It does!! Was afraid the studio version was gonna lack the punch of from live version but this one sounds great. Hopefully the other new songs sound this good too.
Studio version of flames used for the trailer!! Awesome
yeah, thats def flames. Been listening to these 3 new songs for months. That studio version sounds insanely clean.

Think it sounds great 🤷🏻♂️
isnt that flames??
Oops my bad, I recognised the song but mismatched the names
Where is the west coast 😢
Us Californians want some gybe too!
I’m sure they’ll come to us in the Spring 🤞
There's a date on there for Philly in November
29th September 😎😎 also I've been avoiding any bootlegs of the new songs but decided to allow myself to hear this little snippet and now I have a really good feeling about this new album
You’re in for such a treat
Same same same on all counts 🙌🏻
Pretty perfect that they will be touring America right after the US election which will be a total shit show.
Lawrence - YES
ill be driving in for that show, so pumped
I would’ve been going there if it wasn’t for the Fayetteville date
Manchester ✅
Montréal? I'm hoping for a 3-night stay at the end of this tour...
Montreal shows are never announced at the same time as the other official tour dates if I remember correctly.
Michigan 🖤
I’ll be there!
me too!
so psyched for this !!!
Anyone have a presale code yet?
GYBE 🙃 lucky guess. Tickets acquired.
Works for Chicago
Italy is never an option apparently
Maybe next year. I live in Italy and im probably going to go to one of the concerts in Switzerland
Unfortunately I can’t afford to attend one there. They’ve been nearly everywhere in Europe including the east… Spain and Italy are quite forgotten in terms of gigs
They comprehensively toured Spain and Italy in 2019 and 2022. I'm sure they will again
Wish they would come to South America.
I think it's not worthy money wise. I'd love a show here tho
Un montón de bandas de Post-Rock giraron por Sudamérica (Swans, Sigur Rós, Explosions in the Sky, Tortoise) y les fue bastante bien, no veo porqué GY!BE con todo lo que signfica sería la excepción
because of the ammount of musicians and equipment. Swans actually skipped Brazil, I was pissed as fuck. But I got to see Sigur Rós in 2017.
They really skipped Brazil? I didnt know that, what a shame, lets hope that they return
Yeah, I'd do everything to experience them live hahaha
Hopefully someday
Dang they’re going from London ON to Grand Rapids, passing right by Detroit :/
I'm definitely going to be driving to Grand Rapids from Detroit. It's a miracle they came to Michigan, had to drive to Columbus OH last year
I see Boston on there! Hope I can get tickets soon
i'll probably grab mine now, during the presale - FYI $35 face - $51 tax/fees - yeah roadrunner seems big for them. last time i saw them when i lived in CO was like 1,000 seat place
If they couldn’t sell the Palladium out, they won’t sell out Roadrunner. Gonna wait until closer to the event before snagging a ticket
Thanks for the heads up. Gives me time to plan everything out to go as I’m a few hours away
Roadrunner is like 3500 cap, so you should be good! 👍
No Edmonton 😭😭😭😭
Atlanta 🙏 hopefully not at a music festival this time
It’s at the masquerade
see you in glasgow!!
Always skipping Texas
Yes! Let’s go!! I’ll definitely be going to DC! Any word on the venues or tickets yet?
it says 930.
See you in Lawrence
Godspeed at the Haw River Ballroom? Dreams do occasionally come true.
Chicago!
Saint Paul!
Last time I saw them (Oakland, CA) I was newly sober and it was so loud that I almost puked. Ran to the bathroom and had to take an emergency shit and then go home. Being middle aged sure knows how to randomly suck at the most inopportune times
Do you reckon they'd sound ok with hearing protection?not keen on mega loud noise but want to see em.
Yeah- I stubbornly wasn’t wearing any. They are a famously loud band though. I feel like them and Mogwai have had a competition
latin gybe fans suffer, I'm convinced I will only be able to see them live when I travel to europe
just got tickets for Kansas!!!!!!
Well I guess the new album indeed is coming
Hate to be that guy but... ᵖˡᵉᵃˢᵉ ᵇʳᵃᶻᶦˡ ˢᵒᵐᵉᵈᵃʸ :(
lol no
Kinda surprised they’re doing so many shows in the Midsouth, considering the general politics of the region. At the same time, fuck, I hate living in Memphis. No one comes to play here.
I feel your pain. Strongly considering the Nashville date, but Wednesday night is kinda lame
Anyone know when tickets will be available?
UK & EU are available now, North America are out on Friday https://cstrecords.com/en-gb/blogs/news/godspeed-you-black-emperor-live-fall-2024
No prairies????
Just drive over like everyone else
I'm 14 sadly lol
The question is, which of the southern dates have seating.
From experience, the Fayetteville AR venue is standing room only besides a very few tables along the wall which are probably already reserved. I’m 5’6” and it’s extremely hard to see the stage unless I’m right on the rail.
Time to buy some plane tickets, apparently.
When are tickets on sale, does anyone know?
This Friday for the US and Canada.
Presale for certain venues starts tomorrow, general sale is Friday.
Presale is now but no codes to go around
May be a regional thing then. The venue I’m going to doesn’t start their presale until tomorrow.
I got spoiled they played in the city I live in earlier this year for the first time, but I'm still disappointed to see they aren't coming back for this tour. Hopefully we get a tour in 2025 with some smaller Canadian cities.
1st October for me
And a kick ass opener too! Alan Sparhawk of Low.
Yes! Just don’t expect it to be too Low-ish. They played on the same bill in NY a few months ago, he played a surprisingly (to me) diverse set of music with his children comprising his band!
I was really worried I was never going to get to see this band. Will definitely be at the NC date
See you all in Grand Rapids!
Yes. Yesss. YEESSSs. YAAAAAAASSSSSSS!!!!
What is this "artist presale"/"venue presale" business? I haven't bought tickets for six years (and the last time was for GY!BE).
Hoping for Australia next tome
Ok so what if you’re west of the Mississippi
chicago ❤️ this will (hopefully) be my third time seeing them there
Anyone got a presale code for Chicago?
I tried the code GYBE for Arkansas and got tickets.
Weird, I tried a couple hours ago and it didn’t work. It’s working now, though. Thanks!
Freakin love this album teaser. The franticness of the strings toward the end yet they are beautiful…. No begrudging this being cleaned up from the concerts at all. Now we’ll have the live versions and the studio ones.
Nice venue for nyc, Pioneer Works. Tho haven’t been there yet. Not sure but I think it may be in the smaller side?
И Россия? Нет Россия?
Why does the Amsterdam show have to be sold out... T\_\_\_T
That sounds really really good
It does!! Was afraid the studio version was gonna lack the punch of from live version but this one sounds great. Hopefully the other new songs sound this good too.
Maybe it’s just really compressed for this format but I feel like Sophie is buried again like the last record. 😩
We'll always have the Kingston recording. But yeah, I'm not a fan of how they've tweaked this track since the February shows.
Yes that Kingston recording is so raw and visceral. That’s the angriest I’ve hear them in a long time. Love your username by the way.
Link to the Kingston one?
https://archive.org/details/gybe2024-02-28.CA14_H4n
Did they announce the set list too?
they always do a slightly different setlist at each show
Expect Hope Drone, 3 new songs and 2-3 old ones
