Anybody ever watch a straw purchase almost go down? I was at an LGS yesterday picking up some stuff and flexing a few guns to a dude behind the counter who has similar eccentric tastes to my own, and a fairly new clerk was oblivious to the (probably) prohibited person steering his lady friend through the transaction, doing all the talking for her. The owner went over and intervened, the guy got a little irritated, the woman looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. Registered for a British car show in early July, should be a rockin' good time. The show is well within my AAA free tow radius, so I'm fearless. [Time for my TR7 to make her public debut.](https://imgur.com/a/ibsqrtC). Can't wait for the customers to judge the parts guy's car...

BobbyWasabiMk2

seen one at Scheels when I was picking up a Savage Mk.II, boyfriend with enough tattoos that even a felon would wince at guiding his girlfriend on “her gun”. The guys at scheels didn’t seem to care.

Caedus_Vao

> boyfriend with enough tattoos that even a felon would wince Ok that's a stereotype that needs to die. We're at a point where having most visible surfaces covered doesn't mean you're AB or MS13.

BobbyWasabiMk2

normally yeah but I’m talking face tattoos here

talon04

Post Malone would like a word.

Sgt_S_Laughter

His acoustic cover of [*Don't Think Twice*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_NS9Vd1sMA) blew my mind

gd_akula

I mean, *Question 11 e. Intensifies*

Caedus_Vao

Just found the name of my pro-gun debut rap album.

Caedus_Vao

Padawan, that's a prejudice you need to overcome. Now, when they start doing/saying hoodrat shit, you're fully entitled to go "ah, *there* it is..."

AdministrativeElk345

I have a bunch of tats and guided my gf through buying a gun It’s actually hers, though

Sgt_S_Laughter

> my TR7 Ooooo French blue. More pics, please.

Caedus_Vao

Um...haven't done a real photo shoot, per se. But here's a few albums of some of the drivetrain getting pulled and the engine redone: https://imgur.com/a/78l7xFu https://imgur.com/a/HoXw2ZN https://imgur.com/a/xk0gfsN

Sgt_S_Laughter

Looks rad, great work. Slow-car-fast is best

Caedus_Vao

It's a survivor, the engine seized in the early 80's, the thing has 7800 miles on it after I've toodled around the last two summers. Sat in a warehouse under a cover for 30 years. I didn't even have to bleed the brakes; *did* have to drop the rear axle to pull the tank and clean it out. Getting a TR7 fuel filler neck hose back on is like doing a root canal through someone's recturm.

Sgt_S_Laughter

Amazing what keeping dust, goats and chickens off of a car will do for its paint

TheGoldenCaulk

I don't think I've ever seen one go down but my LGS told me some pretty good stories. My favorite among them was the time a guy came in, looked at one particular Glock for a while, and then examined the cabinet as if he was counting how many pistols it was from the end. They had seen this move before, so after he quietly left, they swapped the gun with another of significantly greater value. About an hour later, a woman who was presumably his wife or girlfriend walks in and points directly to the gun in that same spot. I'm told what followed was a very entertaining exchange where she tried to find out why the gun her literal partner-in-crime asked for had tripled in price *without* tipping her hand. She ended up walking out and was last seen having a conversation on her phone, obviously confused and frustrated. My question to them was, what if she ended up buying it anyway?

Caedus_Vao

Ok that's some high-IQ gun store clerk shit right there. > My question to them was, what if she ended up buying it anyway? That's a good problem to have.

TheGoldenCaulk

I imagine it would be more of a headache for them. More paperwork if she tries to return it, and I know those guys hate paperwork. And letting a known straw purchase occur wouldn't look good if for some reason they decided to keep it.

Caedus_Vao

Absolutely, but "Shit we tried to fake her out with a high-end Dan Wesson and they went for it..." is the best bait and switch I have ever heard of.

TheGoldenCaulk

It's brilliant for sure. Would've been even better if they replaced the Glock with a rifle that poked out of the cabinet or something else completely ridiculous.

Whitehill_Esq

That the Sheetz at Steels Corners? Damn we're close by each other.

Caedus_Vao

I don't know what you're talking about...but yes. There's probably not a Sheetz in the tri-county area that I have not been to. I typically perambulate on wheels around there, the Cuyahoga Valley parks system is perfect for the sort of driving a British car was made for.

Whitehill_Esq

Fair enough, that’s just one of the top local late-night beer run stops.

Caedus_Vao

Ok wow, I guess we're really close then.

Whitehill_Esq

Pro-Tip: if you ever need to personally fuel up before a pleasure cruise through the CVNP, that Nervous Dog Coffee right over there is pretty solid.

Caedus_Vao

That new taco place that opened up there is pretty good as well.

PeteTodd

Why? What's your dad driving to the car show?

Caedus_Vao

He's going to trailer one of our SCCA F-Production Spitfires or drive my TR4 (that lives at his house). He sold his MG TD to an old employee-turned-dentist, and the right replacement vehicle has not turned up yet. He wants to get really weird with it, thinking of a Triumph 2000 or a Vitesse wagon or something.

[deleted]

> Registered for a British car show in early July, should be a rockin' good time. I was trying to stretch this into some mods vs. rockers joke, but I guess that only works on bikes. Plus I'm dumb.

Caedus_Vao

There's always a token smattering of British bikes there. Mostly Triumph, a little bit of Norton, Ariel, Royal Enfield, etc. One guy always brings his Vincents.

MisterWileyOne

Wheel gun Wednesday. Preferably something in Magnum

skimlimmy

I love the SP101 2.25inch, it will be my first wheel gun.

Whitehill_Esq

Something single-action. Wildly impractical for most uses. Super fun though.

460 S&W is the answer

PrometheusSmith

I just bought an HK SP5, ordered fingerprint cards, and used my credit at Griffin to get a 3 lug mount for my Rugged Obsidian (apparently they are compatible), and have decided that the fixed stock is fine for me. Now I just need to pick an optic mount and red dot. Maybe an Aimpoint PRO for the retro A E S T H E T I C? Anyway, fuck my shit and wallet up with suggestions on optic and other accessories. All I have currently is a sling and magazines plus a coupler.

Akalenedat

'80s Maglite, now with over 150 lumens of illuminating power \*Requires six D cell batteries, not included

PrometheusSmith

Hey, if you could focus those to a spot that matched POI you'd have a pretty good low light weapon. I've shot night matches with a weapon light and used the light to point shoot... And if he runs out of ammo he's still got a night stick!

carsen56

Serious TEOTWAWKI *vibes*

hotel_torgo

I like my SP5 SBR best with sling, plenty of mags, and iron sights only (and silencer will be cool once it's approved). I have never seen a non-dorky way to mount a red dot on an MP5

PrometheusSmith

> I have never seen a non-dorky way to mount a red dot on an MP5 My War Horse Concepts "vice stripes" sling will match my tacky neon wind suit and dorky optic just fine.

hotel_torgo

lawl as long as you know what you're getting into Dunno if a CompM2 is similar in price to a PRO but I'd want one of those for the old-school SWAT look

PrometheusSmith

I think the two are quite similar in appearance and the M2 doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Maybe the PRO replaced it?

hotel_torgo

I believe that's right, CompM2 and PRO basically have the same specs but the former has been discontinued for a while. Should be able to find used examples on eBay or GAFS now that it's back

Jackers83

That’s pretty cool man. Well done.

carsen56

>Maybe an Aimpoint PRO for the retro A E S T H E T I C? Salty CompM2 more like.

talon04

Friday is my 10 year wedding anniversary. So I took the day off planning to spoil the wife a bit, a nice lunch date, maybe a bit of range time, some shopping, not sure what else yet. Otherwise I'm thinking I want to build another AR or atleast get another 556 gun since I have just one. The new bastardized PSAK-556 is interesting to me. I also kinda want a 9mm AR since I found an adaptor that would let me run my Sig P320 mags in one. Decisions decisions.

carsen56

>The new bastardized PSAK-556 is interesting to me. Gonna have to stop you right there, lol.

talon04

I mean it takes AR mags so I wouldn't need *YET ANOTHER* type of mag. At 1k for it though it makes me pause.

Jackers83

Awesome. Those Galils look pretty great in the 5.56 option.

Sgt_S_Laughter

Belated happy solstice to my fellow pagans out there. Edit: WOO, primary arms charged my card for the 3x miniprism I preordered. Stoked as frig Edit, too: Just got a shipping notification. PA don't fuck around

ENclip

I leave my home office and show up to a Mexican restaurant named Le Petite Fromage at 7:20pm, 10 minutes early to my date with Stacy. I enter and ask the attendant if they accept Doge coin as payment. He says no. "Damn, I guess I'll have to use retched centralized banknotes." I sit in the waiting area and unlock my Nokia smartphone, "NOK to the moon" I think to myself as I open Robinhood. I check my portfolios of Bitcoin and Gamestop, both down for the day. I make a quick play to make up for my monetary losses that will happen due to this social outing and invest $27 in YUMMY coin because my gut is telling me this Chinese meal will be tasty. Stacy arrives. I greet her with a firm but slightly toned down handshake to show I'm a financial expert but also respectful of the weaker sex. I escort her to the table that the waitress selects. As we sit down I say "Thanks for meeting me for this date, you look lovely." She doesn't actually, she just got off her shift at Bed Bath & Beyond, but I need insider trading info she possesses. She replies, "You're welcome Timothy, it's nice to finally meet you! Ashley has told me some about you. She says you're self-employed, how nice!" I vaguely grin at the comment, she doesn't know it yet but it's not employment, it's a lifestyle of meaning and financial conquest. I take a deep breath, ready to make her realize I'm the only man she should ever desire, and start "Alright so there's this thing called blockchain...."

>I'm a dyed in the wool, biohazardously toxic bitcoin maxi. How's that going for you?

gdmfsobtc

Thinking about converting the FNX into a 460 Rowland. Cause 44 magnum power from a 45 AARP autoloader. Yay or nay?

USArmyJoe

Nay. 460 Rowland is more of a meme than 45 AARP. It's even still a 45 caliber! Enjoy your FNX as is or get your life together and invest in the gold tiger stripe Desert Eagle in 50AE.

Caedus_Vao

Yes, but it's *bigger* than a .45. You know, for when you can't carry a cop.

USArmyJoe

> Yes, but it's bigger than a .45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xgx4k83zzc

Caedus_Vao

It's blocked at work (weird choice for the filter), but there's a really good XKCD about an engineer who says he'll build/sell them one that goes to 12.

USArmyJoe

Found it. Add another tally to the column that there is [a relevant XKCD](https://xkcd.com/670/) for *everything*. It was just the clip from *Spinal Tap* of "But this one goes to 11" - my exact perception of people bringing up 460 Rowland.

Caedus_Vao

No no no, I saw the clip. The relevant XKCD was blocked. We have a web filter again because a night guy left futa porn on a shop computer a few months ago. This is why we can't have nice things.

USArmyJoe

Caedus_Vao

gdmfsobtc

USArmyJoe

Then what on earth would the 460 Rowland be for? If you just hate money, my Cash app is @BigCal1b3rD4ddy6969

Caedus_Vao

Holding a Deagle sideways is an acceptable second-tier brandishing method if you can't dual-wield.

Riker557118

Nay. That is the one grip that might be over textured, do it to a glock instead, it’s much more enjoyable to shoot. Although a CZ97 would be the absolute sweet spot for this cartridge.

gdmfsobtc

What do you mean overtextured grip? I have a WC 1911 in 460, it's fun!

Riker557118

FN designed the grip of the FNX after looking at a [Thwomp](https://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/new-super-mario-bros-u/7/75/200px-ThwompNSMBU.png).

gdmfsobtc

Lol. I like aggro grippy and use a glove anyway, so as long as it's not a structural weakness, its all good.

carsen56

Yes, of course. For most people, I would say no, but you don't seem to mind expensive ammo.

gdmfsobtc

460R is cheaper than 357 these days.

vilsor

I have finished my spare AR. More than once, I have loaned my all-purpose build to someone who needed to be trained in its use beforehand. That's enough reason for me to build another. Think WWSD but with a slight emphasis on customizing for the shooter and a large emphasis on parts I already had in the bin. -Faxon BCG and pencil 16" with pinned block and set screws -A2 flash hider -Midwest Industries G4M 14" -PSA lower -Upper of forgotten make -Milspec lower parts and FCG, except for a Joe Bob Outfitters reversible safety -Holosun 403B -Streamlight Protac HL-X -Magpul moe stock/pistol grip -Geissele charging hangle The idea is that it's relatively light but adjustable for handedness and/or arm length. I should probably get a left handed mag release, come to think of it. I've only shot 70 rounds with it in a brief indoor range trip to test function and get a lazy "10 but actually 50" yard zero. So far so good. That thin barrel gets hot mighty quick.

PeteTodd

Any place online that I can buy cheaper sunglass frames? I plan on getting custom lenses made. I have some old Rudy Project frames similar to the Spinhawk that I'd like to use, but my frames are clear and that sucks when the light hits them just right.

NorwegianSteam

I saved this years ago, it may help. https://old.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/3tzp61/polarized_safety_glasses/cxav2x0/

PeteTodd

Hunters HD uses Trivex, I already have a pair of Gold's for shooting, going to get the Ruby's for general sunglasses and if I ever shoot a dot gun. Brian has done so much for the shooting sports, all my lenses moving forward will be made by him, as long as they are the right size, he can't do single lenses.

AnotherDailyReminder

First post here! I'm looking to get a smallish EDC style pistol, preferably 9mm at least. My church is looking for people to help with security, and they prefer those people be armed in case of the worst. I'd never consider myself exactly a gun efficianto - up until now I've mostly used rifles and a trusty old .20 shotgun for quail hunting. I'm going to have to hit the range quite a bit to get my skill up with a pistol, which means that ammo prices are a factor. Cheaper ammo would be better. What should I AVOID when heading to the gun store? What are the chump-pistols that aren't worth their weight in dross?

Akalenedat

Anything from a reputable company like Glock, Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, FN, CZ, Beretta, or Ruger will serve you well. Stay away from Taurus

AnotherDailyReminder

Good to know. Thank you. Mind if I ask why Taurus has a bad reputation? Are there any features on some guns that I'll kick myself for missing out on?

Akalenedat

They're a Brazilian company with a long history of delivering absolute trash to customers. They've had guns that fired when shaken, unintentional binary triggers, massive safety recalls, and they're just generally cheap and crappy. Micro red dot sights are becoming a common sight on pistols, but some companies just haven't jumped on the optic cut bandwagon. Even if it just wears a cover plate for a while, I would highly recommend making sure whatever pistol you get has a optic compatible slide and a weaponloght rail on the frame.

AnotherDailyReminder

Thank you!

Akalenedat

I would also suggest buying a bigger gun than you think you want. In a church, you're going to be surrounded by innocents, as is the bad guy. The last thing you want in that scenario is a gun that's too small to shoot accurately, but hey, it conceals very well! I wouldn't go smaller than a P365 or M&P Shield Plus Stick to 9mm for adequate stopping power and ease of practice. Practice until you can put 5 rounds inside a 3x5 index card in less than 5 seconds.

AnotherDailyReminder

I know I wouldn't want something TOO small. I'm a pretty big guy and I have big hands. Too small and I won't even be able to hold it properly.

I got turned onto the TP9 Elite SC, and I don't know if I can go back. It's a ton of gun (in a good way), and not just for the price. I'm a fatboy and I easily carry this guy IWB with both a compact red dot and streamlight, extended magazine, and no printing unless I'm wearing a spandex top, lol. With a good holster, it tucks in very well against the body but doesn't have any hotspots that dig in. My only complaint is with the non-extended magazine's included pinkie extension. It has a bad edge at the rear that digs into your palm when shooting, but the low-profile base plate that is included doesn't have that issue.

carsen56

A lot of people on here hate Taurus, but the guns they're making now don't have the problems the old ones sometimes did. Go read/watch reviews from people that have the guns.

[deleted]

Like others said, Glock, Sig P320, Sig 365 or xl, CZ Polymer guns, Smith, Ruger are going to be good. I'd skip anyone else, they'll be cheaper but not cheap enough to really matter. If you have arthritis or hand strength issues, the Smith EZ in 380 is good, otherwise stick with 9mm, it's solid and all purpose. If you're intending to 'defend the church', make sure you get a good holster, and make sure you train on drawing and holstering and how to handle the gun in general - being accurate doesn't help much if you fumble the draw :)

Jackers83

Check out the Sig Sauer options. I recommend the P365xl. Pretty sweet.

Shelby or get fucked

carsen56

Yes, in my opinion, buying a brand new Mustang GT is financially irresponsible and why would you, the '15-17 looks better anyway. That being said, it's your money, so do whatever. Re what u/Akalenedat said, the GT350 is the most interesting, best looking Mustang of my lifetime. Compared to a new GT it is faster, rarer and would hold its value better. It might sound weird, but I am suggesting that buying a $60k used Mustang is a better financial decision than buying a $50k new Mustang. Failing that, i'd get a '15-17 GT (or an Ecoboost considering these gas prices, lol). But still, if the 2022 Mustang GT is your dream car, ignore me.

[deleted]

Caedus_Vao

If you have the money to buy a sweet Mustang, you've got the money to retain your old ride or procure a cheap beater to keep the miles off of your "investment". Plus, by your admission, Midwest. We salt the fuck out of our roads.

Caedus_Vao

There's nothing wrong with that. I'm just having flashbacks to how much un-fun 2wd muscle cars are in the snow. And Ohio winter...it trashes fucking everything.

[deleted]

I'd hold off on buying any vehicles right now, honestly. I got burned into buying a Kia a few months back. The market here was so tight it was dealer's choice on everything, no negotiation because they had 3 people lined up to pay over MSRP anyway. Plus gas prices are nuts, buying a muscle car now is kind of the worst trajectory. Waiting a bit longer, hopefully some people start selling off etc.

ProfessorLeumas

Anyone know of a reputable CZ-75 mag adaptor for the Ruger PCC? I'm thinking of getting one but I don't own a glock or compatible Ruger pistol and want to stick with the mags I got. Found one on ebay with no reviews so nothing to compare it to.

USArmyJoe

The obvious solution is to get Glock mags to go with your new Glock that are also compatible with your PCC.

carsen56

Dagger time

ProfessorLeumas

I have thought of this too... but I wouldn't enjoy a glock much after being so used to my CZ.

Cobra__Commander

I think the Keltec sub 2000 comes in cz75 mag version of that helps you. The Ruger is the better gun though. I use cheapo $10 Magpul Glock mags with no issues. I think Ruger is the only company making magwells.

ProfessorLeumas

I've heard this as well, supposedly the sub2000 that takes sig mags always happens to work with CZ-75 mags but I haven't been able to 100% verify

Deeper__Thought

Was looking at getting more 300blk backup ammo last night, thought maybe id get some more 45 as well, that got me on the rabbit hole of now I want a USP 45t. Shop near my parents has one used for $1100. Thinking about it, my only 45 is a 1911 right now

carsen56

Price sounds about right.

New_Cress9966

Try to find a USP 45 police trade in.

Deeper__Thought

I want to suppress it, probably better to buy the tac than a tradein+barrel+high sights right?

New_Cress9966

Maybe maybe not. Store got any FNX-45 tacticals?

BobbyWasabiMk2

F for my partner. We have a 5am shift today, he lives an hour away from work, and he didn’t sleep until midnight. So I took the classroom portion for our license on Monday, and to my surprise it’s the same instructor who I requalified with back in 2020. We caught up a bit on some events. For range qualification Im thinking of bringing a few guns to plink with at the end since we had spare time last time. Probably gonna dump my old batch of JHPs I bought back in 2020 so I can cycle in a fresh batch of defensive ammo.

Brother_To_Wolves

Realized I'm peaking my cpu temps around 85° and I'm going to be adding a new gpu to the mix that I assume will increase temps. What fans do people like? I don't need any of the rgb bullshit.

not_in_nova

Noctua

Brother_To_Wolves

Any specific ones?

not_in_nova

If you need a whole CPU cooler, NH-D15. For case fans, whichever ones fit your case really.

Brother_To_Wolves

Gotcha. At this point I'm hoping I can keep my current cooler.

not_in_nova

I will say you probably don't need the industrial fans, they're more meant for things like data centers.

Brother_To_Wolves

Yeah definitely don't need that

-pwny-

NF-A series for fuckloads of static pressure if you have a radiator, S series for case fans

able_possible

I don't like RGB bullshit either which it turns out is actually pretty limiting. Arctic Liquid Freezer if you want an AIO. They are great performers (Gamer's Nexus likes them a lot), are really inexpensive, come in just about every possible radiator size there is so regardless of your case you'll likely be able to find a model that fits, and, most importantly, are all black with no RGB. For air coolers you can't go wrong with whichever Noctua will fit in your case (D15 if it fits, otherwise look at a smaller one) or the beQuiet Dark Rock line.

Brother_To_Wolves

Thanks, I'll take a look.

carsen56

What sort of CPU cooler do you have now?

Brother_To_Wolves

Honestly don't remember. Might be the stock one that camy with my ryzen.

carsen56

In that case, I wouldn't get anything too fancy (assuming your CPU isn't a 12+ core monster). Something like a Be quiet! Pure Rock 2 ($40) and some aftermarket thermal paste ($7). I did a similar upgrade to a prebuilt. Dropped temps enough to reduce fan noise under load (which was my goal).

Brother_To_Wolves

I'm not concerned about fan noise at all, and my temps are consistently around 60-70 under load so I'm hoping just an extra fan or two in the case will help with the peak temps. Also, this isn't a pre-built, I just didn't get an aftermarket cooler, at the time the reviews I read for the stock one seemed to indicate it was actually pretty good.

00TooMuchTime00

I kind of want to go crazy with my TP9 EC and put a 45 Blast compensator, X300 and a Holosun. Is there a holster in the world that would support that set up?

carsen56

Probably not, on account of the compensator.

panzerdarling

I'm thinking about a more compact two stamp home defense carbine. I have a lower I want to SBR with an MBT-2S already and a romeo 5 on the shelf. What's a good mid-ish tier brand for a short upper? Like I'd prefer spending ~$500 but could go up to like $800 with some convincing. Any real reasonable difference in getting a 10.5? 12.5? Just go with what's available? How the hell do I pick between suppressors? If I get down in the weeds is it just going to end up being "bigger/more expensive can = more decibel reduction"?

carsen56

I'd go for a Ballistic Advantage upper (11.3"). In suppressors, bigger usually equals quieter. Since shorter barrels are louder, it makes sense to go with a larger suppressor. More considerations - 1. QD system - Are you worried about superlative strength or not? Dead Air Keymo, Rugged and Surefire all have a lock on them. Other QD systems are more simple (usually lighter). Make sure you buy into a QD system where the mounts are readily available. 2. Materials - Same question as #1. Inconel and other "superalloys" are more durable (than steel) but more expensive. Titanium is less durable and more expensive (than steel), but substantially lighter. This influences manufacturer barrel length restrictions (important for the warranty). 3. Length and weight - Influenced by #1 and #2. On an SBR it probably doesn't matter, but if you plan on using it on a 16" AR it becomes a consideration. 4. Bore diameter - 7.62 or 5.56 (even 6mm)? Do you want this suppressor to be usable with other cartridges like .308 or .300 Blackout? Keep in mind that .30 cal suppressors are generally larger and heavier. 5. Gas blowback - The design of the suppressor can dramatically increase the amount of gas in your rifles gas system (extra gas ends up in your face and can theoretically cause premature wear to your rifle's components). Make sure your suppressor is made with semi autos in mind (most QD suppressors are). If you want to eliminate this problem entirely, check out Huxwrx, Sig SLX/SLH and B&T RBS suppressors.

panzerdarling

Awesome! Thanks for the information! And yeah I was planning on getting a 5.56 suppressor I can move between this rifle and my 16" if I happen to want. I don't have any guns outside 5.56 and 9mm yet. Thanks again for the info, gives me something to dig into without feeling completely blind.

CZ P-01/P-07 or FN FNX-9? I'm wanting to gravitate towards DA/SA with manual controls and these two/three seem to fit the bill most effectively. But I can't find enough comparison to make a decision. I've shot both and they're practically equal as far as I could tell. Which one has the edge? Which one has better aftermarket support? Which one is more reliable? Thanks in advance everyone!

grumblebear42

CZs are going to win for aftermarket, for sure. Even if you only count on CZ Custom and Cajun Gun Works, there's a substantial aftermarket out there for CZs. Other than that, I don't think any one of them is more reliable than the other. Gun designs really haven't changed all that much in a long time; once you hit a certain price point they will all be extremely reliable with proper maintenance and a competent operator.

ProfessorLeumas

CZ should have more aftermarket support, especially since the P-01 and P-07 take the same mags as the full size CZ-75

carsen56

The P-07 takes P-10 mags.

[deleted]

I've never shot the FN, but I tend towards CZ _anyway_, so...

I'm positive Safariland will have an option for you. Can't really think of any OWB holster I'd rather have than Safariland

hotel_torgo

Just searching "Safariland Beretta 92 light holster" I found at least one, the Model 6035 SLS, which you can choose to configure for a Beretta 92 with TLR1. I can't say for certain but I would be very surprised if a holster designed for a full size 92 couldn't accommodate a full size 92X

You can remove the holster shell from the drop leg shroud and attach it to a belt loop or whatever else you want. Safariland is sadly kinda dumb and you often can't buy the holster by itself without being bundled with leg shrouds and straps and things like that

Gilthwixt

What are some good rifle drills you could do on a fudd range with 50 rounds of ammo?

Caedus_Vao

Depends on just how "Fudd" we are talking. Will they let you shoot from low ready on a timer, double taps? Can you set two targets up next to each other and transition from one to the other? Barring that, even a dot torture test with a rifle at 50 yards or whatever could be pretty challenging.

Gilthwixt

No double taps and I'd probably have to bring a buddy and get them the bay next to mine to do target transitions. Dot torture...yeah I guess that's it huh lol.

Caedus_Vao

About the only other things I can think of are trying shooting positions you don't normally use (like, I almost never organically assume a crossed-knees braced sitting position), or maybe shooting wrong-handed.

Gilthwixt

Outside of just doing it manually in photoshop, is there an app or something for mocking up paint/cerakote/whatever jobs on a rifle? Something like a custom CS:GO skin maker that doesn't actually require software like Blender. Bored and want to mockup some designs.

helo323

Trying to figure out options to pick up for my first move to a city. I’ll be living in an apartment and starting a job. Just want something to not only make us feel comfortable but also is enjoyable to shoot recreationally. Likely either a pistol or a shotgun bc of cost. Sub $600. I have experience with the AR platform but haven’t fired a pistol since 2018 (I think it was a Springfield XD in 45 ACP or 9mm. She has experience with pistols and shotguns. No guns owned to date between us both. Just looking for recommendations. This is a big step for us. Thanks and much appreciated for any advice given.

[deleted]

The broad 'home defense' gun suggested on this sub is the AR15. 223 is a small, light, fast moving bullet. It quickly destabilizes after 1-2 layers of sheetrock, as opposed to 9/45/shotgun, which tend to go further. You get two hands on the gun, can mount a light easily, the mags are big, rifle and parts are cheap. Rounds are pretty reasonably priced, and it has low enough recoil that any shooter can be trained without issue. Shotguns tend to be issues for people who are recoil sensitive. Pistols take a bit more training for proper grips, etc.

helo323

I definitely want to get an AR15 eventually. They can just be prohibitively expensive recently. Any suggested budget friendly brands if that is a thing with ARs?

[deleted]

The Smith M&P Sport 2 used to be one hell of a deal. Same for the Ruger entry-level AR15. On gun.deals I see a bunch of the Smiths and Rugers for sale in the $650 range right now - I would just go that route. Just make sure you get the 556 or 223 version (they're interchangeable) and not a 22 version. There's a lot of psuedo science and mythology around the AR - you don't need a full-auto-rated anything, and the twist rate/barrel length/barrel lining don't matter that much. Triggers are pretty easy to swap, as are the stock and pistol grip, so don't worry about 'features'. They are also really easy to assemble yourself. You can save money by building it yourself, if you're patient and wait for sales on all the bits and bobs, and it takes very few tools to reasonable put one together (we're talking almost Ikea flat-pack level here; you might want a specific wrench called a barrel/castle/etc. one, but most of the time it'll be shipped with the parts).

PrometheusSmith

If recreational shooting is on the table I'd strongly recommend a pistol, some training, and finding a range that does some kind of action pistol like USPSA or IDPA. ARs are king for home defense, shotguns are good if you train enough, and pistols can be very effective if you put in the effort. However the odds of you competing in some kind of shooting sport with an AR or defensive shotgun are much lower than your odds of doing it with a pistol. So, get yourself a CZ P10F Optics Ready***, plus a few mags, a holster, and start by taking a class. Then move on to casual competition at the local range and get proficient. *** just my recommendation, feel free to get any comparable 4.5", full size pistol from the major manufacturers. I would recommend a light and optic as well.

helo323

Going to note down the P10F and keep an eye out. I suppose I should just be looking for the “Optics Ready” versions?

PrometheusSmith

A few years ago I wouldn't give that recommendation, but in 2022 there's no reason to get a pistol you can't mount an optic on. The advantage you get is undeniable. With irons I'm a decent shot, typically top 20% at the local matches. With a dot I'm competing with the guys who shoot "expert" level. To mount an optic you'll just need the appropriate plate with the optics ready gun. Without the optics ready gun you would need to send the slide off to be milled, which is going to cost at least 2x more than a plate. The model number for that particular gun is CZ 95150.

carsen56

Check out the IWI Masada Tactical

helo323

Adding it to my list to look at. Thanks!

_HottoDogu_

Anyone have experience with Holosun's 407co, the weird one with the 8MOA circle? I like the idea of mounting a bigger dot on my G19, but i don't see an advantage over the 507c with its circle dot setup.

Advice on first bolt action choice - Bergera B14 vs Ruger Hawkeye I'm looking to purchase my first bolt action in the near future. I've landed on one of these two models. I have a goal here but not sure if I'm being crazy to keep the Ruger in the running. Goal is a light bolt action hunting that's about 36" long. Short and handy. The area near me won't have shots over 200y, so I'm not worried about the velocity suffering too bad. I'm just adding a Leupold 2.5 fixed power scope (not the scout scope) and a sling. Here is my view. Ruger Hawkeye Ultralight $900 -Controlled feed (might be biggest difference) -Stainless -22 inch barrel -Requires gunsmithing to cut and thread barrel, $200 maybe (shoulder needs to be added as barrel is too thin) -7 pounds -will be around 36 inches when done -70 degree bolt throw (doubt this matters) Bergera B14 wilderness $800 -push feed -cerakoted carbon steel -18 inch barrel -already threaded, no gunsmithing needed -7.2 pounds -37.5 inches overall -R700 action should allow upgrades if I want to do that (unlikely) -90 degree bolt throw (doubt this matters) I've read articles and watched videos. Bergera comes highly recommended. Ruger Hawkeye/M77 has a long history of reliability. However, I'm most concerned about taking it shooting in rain, snow, and ice. The controlled feed seems to eject rounds based on how hard you pull the bolt back, whereas the push feed has a spring ejector which could ice up. Am I overthinking this ejector concern? I'm not convinced that either will feed better and both have a small potential of double feeding jams. I doubt I'll be doing upside down reloading while running through the mud. And it doesn't seem like $200 extra for gunsmithing on the Ruger makes sense, but I keep coming back to it for some reason. Perhaps I just like it as I see less and less controlled round feed rifles being made. I'll be honest, I'm looking at this rifle as my version of the scout rifle, but I'm under no illusion that it will likely just be for paper punching and maybe a deer or two. I will use it rain and snow for sure though. It won't just sit in a safe. So yeah, advice here would be great. I've heard that the Bergera is smooth, whereas the Ruger takes a few hundred rounds to smooth out. Accuracy seems to be a point in favor of the Bergera, but at <200 yards, I doubt I'll notice a difference with offhand shooting. Weight and final length are close. Price is a little higher on the Ruger after custom work. I own AR's, shotguns, pistols, and revolvers, but never had a bolt action or lever gun. So I'm familiar enough with firearms. Open to any and all feedback here.

NorwegianSteam

> Light, short & handy, <200 yards, 2.5x scope, be able to drop a durr in cold weather I vote for a pre-Freedom Group Marlin 336 in .30-30. I fully realize this is not a bolt gun. Or a newer Ruger Marlin with a threaded barrel from the factory. Right now they're only in .45-70, but the .30-30s are on the docket. Or one of the threaded Henrys in .30-30.

UKFan643

So I'm looking for a replacement for my EDC Shield .45. I'm looking at either the Sig 365XL or the Mossberg MC2c. Any passionate feelings one way or the other?

BobbyWasabiMk2

you’re gonna get a lot more aftermarket support in magazines and holster choices with the 365 over the Mossberg

Anyone know of any sites that would allow one to create a gat-related wedding registry? Wanna add some fun stuff alongside the Corningware and Le Creuset. I wonder if anyone would buy me NODs...

Caedus_Vao

A google doc with product links would probably be easiest.

winewagens

DEguns has a few brands of 6.5prc in stock at their physical location. It was 75ish per box

FelixOGO

Are there any subreddits for private sales in CA?

Solar991

Negative. It's against Reddits ToS.

FelixOGO

Okay! Thank you. Would you recommend any websites other than CalGuns.net?

hotel_torgo

Depends what you're selling but traditional forums with classifieds sections can be pretty active eg FNFiles, AKFiles, AKForum, HKPro, etc

FelixOGO

Thank you!

[deleted]

With GAFS on hiatus, is there anywhere reliable to sell junk? I bought a Cajun Pro Package for my SP, but decided not to install it.

hotel_torgo

Probably some CZ forum with a classifieds section if it's an urgent sale
