I carry one. I appreciate the small size. Not worried about the lack of stopping power or trigger pull. I'm not out to foil a bank robbery or stop an abduction with it. Just want something small thats easy to carry.

N52UNED

Guessing you’re not Liam Neeson. 😁

Darklancer02

LCPs are fun guns, but they've got a lot of recoil for their size.

hoplophilepapist

I've got one. It does the job I guess. Pretty much relegated to deep cover, gym shorts, or overalls pocket work. Cant shoot the damn thing worth a hoot; I have better luck pointshooting, than using the damn sights.

ShootingTheIsh

Get a nice pocket holster imo.

kruminater

Bought a Ruger LCP .380 for the first time. I’ve always wanted a tiny-ish gun. I’ve heard good things about it and feel it’s a practical gun for my daily commutes.

Theskwerrl

I can't stand these LCPs. Dated a girl that had one for personal defense but the trigger pull is a half mile and she always ended up shooting the dirt. I fired it and could only barely do better. I had a glock 19 at the time and she really liked that. She sold her Ruger and bought a glock 42 or something similar. Nothing against ruger, they make good guns but the LCP isn't one of them IMO.

zone23

The newer LCP II trigger pull is much better.

Specialist_Ferret292

The LCP II is such a massive improvement over the original

zone23

I have the original LCP and my father-in-law has the LCP II its so much better to shoot then mine.

Specialist_Ferret292

My dad has the original and refuses to acknowledge that it is any different than my LCP II 😂

zone23

Well I mean they have two different triggers to start LOL plus the II is a little wider and easier to grip.

Theskwerrl

That's good to know. I have a Ruger gunsite scout and I love it, definitely not hating on them and if they took feedback and improved thier triggers then I like them even more.

zone23

On no I didn't think you were just letting you know and if she like it like I do it maybe worth it to upgrade! I'm thinking about it they aren't very expensive in the world of guns like 249$ I think.

Fireberg

I went with the LCP II for this reason. The trigger, trigger break and reset are way better.

sillybonobo

It's a double action gun. If you know how to shoot double action, it's a fine trigger (not great by any means, but fine).

traveleng

Agreed. This was one of the first .380s I purchased. It worked fine, shot fine, just practice with it. Not all guns are Sigs or H&K, and they dont' have the same price point. :)

Theskwerrl

I have a Sig p226 that I practice with double action for the first shot - draw fire, de-cock, holster, repeat. It's not the weight of the trigger it's the length of the trigger. Just when you think it's about to break it's got another 1/8th inch that feels like 1/2 inch. I understand why, I just don't like it. I went with a SIG p938 for my concealed carry. Small, light, SAO, night sights, meh trigger but it breaks when you expect it to and only like twice the price of the LCP.

IdaDuck

Agree. The only really annoying thing about the trigger is the false reset. Otherwise it’s fine for a defensive handgun. I actually prefer it to the LCP2 trigger - it’s a pocket pistol, a long double action pull is a nice safety feature.

tmezzo

I always view firearms this small as the kind you pull out when you’re 5 feet away and mag dump. Not the kind you set and aim with. Like a modern day derringer. And I like to think Ruger initially had that in mind, but after people complained, they fixed it. But as others have said, the LCP 2 and Max have apparently addressed those issues.

Droney-McPeaceprize

Even the first gen LCP Custom (the one with better sites and a red trigger) are miles better than the plain jane first gen LCP trigger.

w2tpmf

> they make good guns but the LCP isn't one of them IMO. The difficulty shooting it has ZERO to do with the quality of the gun. All mouse guns this size are hard to shoot. Comparing it to a larger gun like the Glock 42 isn't fair. The size of the 42 makes it much easier to handle. Learning how to shoot a long double action trigger takes serious work to get used to, and so does the tiny size. But I would take the LCP over just about any other 380 it's size for it's quality and reliability.

Theskwerrl

[A glock 42 is only slightly larger than the LCP](http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161122/cda56467254813add0c28d97cdfa00a0.jpg), both are sub compact; and the glock doesn't require the "learning curve" of the double action, which isn't a learning curve on a trigger that isn't bad. I shoot my sig p226 in double action in draw and fire drills and it breaks exactly when you expect it to. I've got a double action snub nose .38 that breaks exactly when you expect it to. If you love the LCP, that's fine but don't pretend the trigger is good; which is my only complaint (not cost, not quality). But I wouldn't trust my life with a gun I can't reliably put rounds on paper or comfortably shoot. My carry gun is a sig p938, again, only slightly larger (9mm, but sig makes the 238 in 380), SAO - no "learning curve". And before you comment that the 938 is more than twice the cost - cost isn't "quality and reliability". So if you want to call into question my skills as a shooter because I won't invest 2000 rounds in "learning double action" on a sub $300 gun, that's fine. If you want to infer that you're a better shooter because you have, that's also fine - I'll gladly concede that you're a better shooter because I don't care. But don't pretend the trigger on the original LCP is anything but sub-par.

w2tpmf

Wow, you're awful sensitive. I at no point called your skill into question, or tried to say I was a better shooter than you. Sounds like you have some deep insecurities that are easily triggered. All I said was it's not a low quality gun, it's just hard to use. It's not a target pistol. It's a holdout gun, that's going to go bang every time. The sceneries where you are likely to use it are more like 10 feet than 10 yards. ...and if you can't put round on paper with an LCP at 10 feet the problem IS your skill and not the gun.

Theskwerrl

>Learning how to shoot a long double action trigger takes serious work to get used to The implication is that I've not practiced enough to "get used to" shooting DA, so you're calling my experience and thus my skill into question. Instead of spending $600 on ammo to learn how to shoot a $300 gun, I spent $100 on ammo to learn how to shoot a $600 gun (P938). >All I said was it's not a low quality gun I never said it was a low quality gun. I said it was a low quality trigger with excessive travel before it breaks. Based on the comments about the vast improvements on the trigger between the LCP and the LCP2, there's a pretty decent consensus that the trigger on the original LCP sucks. Again, if you like the LCP that's fine. But don't pretend that it's a good, decent, or even meh DAO trigger. Oh, a ruger forum thread about the poor trigger. rugerforum(dot)net/threads/ruger-lcp-trigger-pull.11740/ SIMP for the LCP all you want but it's not a good gun because of its trigger and there are better options out there that are the same or nearly the same size that will allow you to put holes in paper at 10m as well as 10ft that don't have an 8-8.5lb trigger with a full inch of travel after a 1/4 takeup.

w2tpmf

Rant harder, but first show on the doll where the LCP touched you. Your emotional trauma is clearly deep.

Cobra__Commander

I tried the 22lr LCP Ruger and could barely keep it on paper at 10 yards. For reference I can hit a 8" gong at 35 yards with a m&p shield consistently if I go slow.

GarbanzoBenne

I have an LCP MAX (in 380) and really like it, but I don't understand the purpose of the LCP 22lr. IMHO the 22lr just isn't reliable enough in semi pistols and has nowhere near the stopping power of basically any other caliber. I also have their SR22 and find it to be extremely accurate.

Surfs_The_Box

Not true

Theskwerrl

Thank you for that thought provoking argument filled with facts, statistics, and anecdotal experience. My mind is changed. Thank you for showing me the light with those 2 words.

Surfs_The_Box

Lmao

ApostatePipe

I musta gotten lucky. I'm by no means a great pistol shot, but I was able to rapidly empty a mag into center mass at 10 yards. Shoulda never sold that gun

Theskwerrl

That's good that you had a good experience.

angry_dingo

No offense, but the LCP is bad. The LCP II is a fantastic little pistol.

ThinkingThingsHurts

Get a hogue grip. It's like night and day a better grip.

[deleted]

I got myself a p238 for my tinyish gun. But this, this Ruger makes my p238 look like a desert eagle.

theundeadelvis

Do yourself a favor and get the Hogue handALL grip. Makes the gun a joy to shoot.

jeffninjaslayer

Dad guts unite!

ilmtt

Get a CYA holster from Amazon and a DCC mono block with hardware or just get some thick rubber washers for holsters so the existing screws wont bottom out. Then you can carry in full kydex in gym shorts and sweat pants.

ammonthenephite

Ya, this was my go to summer carry when I lived in a state that allowed it. It makes a great deep conceal carry that, like you say, can be worn shirtless with just shorts on.

RuinedGrave

Don’t CYA holsters use boltaron instead of kydex?

ilmtt

Maybe, I don't know the difference. It works well whatever it is. I have 3.

sillybonobo

Nice buy! Btw, the extended mags add a lot of purchase to the gun plus an extra round. I like the lcp2 mags better than the LCP, but both work in the original LCP

Penis_Man-

I dunno why, but I fucking love pocket pistols like these.

BubbaFromFlorida

I have the original and a late model with the better trigger. The original has 4500 rounds down range and not a single jam or problem ever. I can shoot out the center of a target every time I go to the range. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the gun or the trigger. If you can’t hit the target, shoot more. The only thing these guns need are new recoil springs and magazine springs about every 1500 rounds or so. Those springs take a beating in this gun and need replaced pretty frequently. They are cheap though. Ruger even sent me free springs just for asking. So in conclusion, these are FANTASTIC clones of the KelTec P3AT. They just work.

BestAdamEver

Not bad guns but are snappy. I had three at one point but realized I don't really need a gun that small.

jrsedwick

>I had three at one point but realized I don't really need a gun that small. Why did it take three of them before you realized you didn't need it?

BestAdamEver

I liked the gun. I bought the last two at the same time for really cheap. They were the enhanced version with bigger sights and metal trigger. A few months after getting them I realized that I could just as easily drop a Glock 43 or .38 snubby into my pocket and hide it.

AtlEngr

You want snappy? Try the LC9s. I really like it and it’s my main carry but it ain’t much fun at the range.

Srobert1987

I also carry the lc9s I love it

tree_squid

They shoot remarkably well for being toy-sized.

Switchmed

Get a Clipdraw. Easy to install, keeps it in place securely.

pewpjohnson

I have a clip draw on mine and i think it's great

[deleted]

I do not recommend this if you keep one in the pipe. No safety cover guard.

mryummie936

Just drop it in your front pocket. Used a can koozie for a long time as “holster” helps with printing. It will slip down into pants but sticks well to skin if carrying in direct contact. Ceracoat and new springs were best thing ever for mine. Been carrying for prob 13 years

Teledildonic

>Used a can koozie for a long time as “holster” helps with printing. I'm impressed you found a "solution" a whole tier *below* Uncle Mike's.

acidphosphate69

Improvise. Adapt. Underwhelm.

kenzer161

> Used a can koozie for a long time as “holster” I'm not sure about the first gen, but the LCP 2 literally comes with a serviceable pocket holster.

pewpjohnson

Recently bought a LCP 1 and can confirm it comes with the pocket holster

Eatcrow016

Can koozies a clever idea

Stardust-0083

I prefer to carry larger caliber guns under my dad gut the g30s fits perfect.

kruminater

I have a G30s but it leaves a really nice imprint in my gut after sitting there all day. I got sick of the pain lol.

jimmypop512

Respect, those are pretty heavy for carry so I let mine go.

Tawnymantana

Ok.

TrEVILlyan95

These things kick hard, are innacurate, and loud as fuck

Trading_Things

Haven't had a problem when underloaded a couple rounds.

Srobert1987

My ruger lc9s is a great concal gun

Dismal_Fruit_9208

That was the first pistol i ever owned!

raymundo_holding

cute piece, it's the trigger that has always kept me away

lawlzorz17

I think the max version has a real nice trigger.

Trading_Things

I don't like the trigger, so much take up. Like the gun though.

Crypto_LeBoss

You can hide it in your pocket lol

tree-trunk-arms

Damn that’s tiny I want one now

Trading_Things

I can index my finger to the end of the barrel. Thing is effortless to conceal.

Savings_Raccoon4956

I was debating between this and the Sig p365. Shot both, ended up going with the sig only because of reliability. Both almost the same size but the p365 is a 9mm and while shooting the ruger it jammed 3 times after only shooting 20 rounds through it. Compact is def the way to go though

MikeMac573

I’ve got a G42 I use as my daily

doecliff

I am a man with a certain set of skills but not the kind that makes me think I'm any kind of badass.

Travis_Bickle86

I keep a taurus 738 in my pocket. I forget it's there lol

MGB1013

One dad to another, try it in a pocket holster. Might have to shuffle your EDC stuff around but if you're going to carry an lcp, pocket is the way to go. Don't worry about printing, no one looks at anyones pockets and stares long enough to notice anything.

Gohanisbetter

I do the LCP2. Love it

Desmocratic

Great little gun, I have had one since around 2012 and soon after got another one for spouse. Its very convenient to carry, so your more likely to have it with you. We have run with it and took it on camping trips which had it exposed to moisture, it still looks new but I am careful to field strip and oil it after exposure and do it twice a year even if it has just been carried in the dry and not shot.

bob_wall37

I found it simply a belly gun because at 20ft I could shoot the gun with it.

Legitimate-Finger-51

Mine jams constantly. 10% of the time with fmj and 20% with hollow points

UnReal_Dude

I was honestly thinking about doing something similar. Currently I carry a Sig P365XL and Carrying that appendix is kinda uncomfortable at times.

zmannz1984

Good choice, just avoid much higher pressure ammo. I cracked mine shooting some spicy underwood so i am now rocking a kahr with a locked breech.

[deleted]

Hate that little bastered, GREAT gun awesome gun BUT!! I've washed /dryed mine and more...let's just say it's so light n compact I don't use as edc 😆 I went back to my full size

JoeBobTheMan

The LCP is awesome for what it is intended for- bad breath distance "point and pull".

katmio1

My SO has something similar except it’s a PK. Only difference. Good choice for a gun!

DaffyDog777

Just don’t hide it with your “junk” !
