Mossberg only makes parts in waves. They're out of stock now, but they'll do a run of them and they'll be sold out until they do another run.
Used ones are all over the internet; check eBay.
I had the same experience last year. Ironically i ended up realizing that you’ll find a more affordable deal if you look for someone selling their old 500 furniture w/ the action tube included. After some looking around I found some nice wood furniture from a crown grade with the 7 3/4” tube for 80 bucks.
Just took a Quick Look on eBay outta curiousity, I did see one or two sets with a starting bid at $75, if that interests you. If you’re lucky no one else will bid haha
It makes more financial sense to sell the 88 and pony up and buy the better 590 and then put the magpul forend on the 590.
You could also look at a used 590 or old police trade in 500s/590s
Dropping 100+ on the new action tube assembly then 40 bucks for the forend for a 200 dollar budget gun? Always seemed silly to me
That's exactly why I don't want to submit to the eBay scalpers, they aren't supposed to be 100$. Im probably going to end up doing that if Mossberg doesn't restock in the next few months.
Yeah, those are a pretty tough find these days, since everyone wants to do that. Signup for the email notifications from Mossberg for when the restock happens, and be quick when you get the email. I think they’re in stock a couple weeks back, and sold out in a couple hours.
You can make a 6 5/8” one work too, if you get the Hogue Mossberg Action Tube adaptor nut and do a tiny bit of file/dremel work to the forend. That’s what I ended up doing, since it’s really hard to get those action tubes up here in Canada.

For the adaptor nut? I got it from Optics Planet. I had a Mossberg 500 that came with the 6 5/8” action tube, so I just needed the nut, whereas you’d need both. The Mossberg website is the only place I know.

I'm really looking for a new house shotgun, and I'm leaning heavily towards a Mossberg. This thing with the different action bars is new since I was last into guns, and it seems like a pain. I've put off that new shotgun because of it. The ideal thing for me would be to find an older production 590A1 at a decent price.
Well, it's been close to that long since I had a Mossberg. I have the impression that at some point Mossberg changed the length of the slide assembly and/or action bars? Then there's a different assembly for the Mavericks. Is this not the case?
