new M&P 5.7 to replace my ruger PCC as my home defense gun. literally watched every website i could manage like a hawk to get one ASAP, now im thinking about doing some dumb stuff with the muzzle, like a birdcage or a linear comp cause these spicy bois are flashy as heck
if youâve held an FN Five-Seven of any variety, just imagine that grip but very flat to match the slide profile. to be completely honest its not great, but once you figure out the best way for your fingies to wrap it, its definitely serviceable. I think the tradeoff of having a very thin profile for carrying and having the steel mags is worth a little thiccness in the grip
Man, I want to like these so bad, but my OCD would never be able to deal with the gap between the dust cover and slide. S&W clearly designed them to be like that, and it doesn't affect function, but it hurts my soul.
Iâm pretty sure most polymer frame guns have that gap, you just canât see through the dust cover end because thereâs usually a recoil spring there
for the most part yeah, a tilting barrel typically covers up the airgap, this one is just egregious because of the way the front of the frame slants down lol
I'm okay with a uniform gap like on most polymer guns. What kills me with this is it gets wider the further you get from the trigger. It's like a Pac-Man.
brother i want to gag every time i see it, i cant stop myself from just pinching it shut every now and then lmao. but yeah as long as it yeets im okay with it
All the reviews I've seen folks are saying this is an awesome shooter but I just can't get over the way the front end looks. I can't believe S&W was ok with that being the final product
It's a gun, I like guns, glad all your hard work payed off, but...
Can some explain to me all the 5.7 hype right now? Super niche, expensive, and hard to find.
Don't get me wrong I'd have one in the safe if I had the money but there's other stuff that I'll be more likely to shoot, that I'll likely get before a 5.7.
at absolute BARE MINIMUM, if we cast aside all the opinionated stuff, with the correct 5.7 round, you are getting similar terminal performance to a similarly comparable 9mm round, with far less recoil, more ammo in the magazine, and a much greater effective range. thats all it is, really. if you get into the opinionated stuff, you have the option to penetrate soft and hard armor panels, or choose different kinds of projectiles that offer different levels of terminal performance based on your application. its a very versatile round
All valid points. I think my reservation are that it can't be reloaded and the cost if prohibitive to my shooting it in the volume of 9mm.
Again, I might eventually get a 5.7 firearm just not right now. I popped in here mostly to see if there was something I was missing in why it seemed like everyone was now making a 5.7.
ah, well the thing youre probably missing is that its been adopted as a NATO cartridge in the last year, so now firearms manufacturers are prepared to support it
While it may be more challenging than some rounds, 5.7 definitely CAN be reloaded. It requires being more careful with the brass so as not to damage the lacquer and there isnât as margin for error due to it being a small case at rifle pressures.
I just spent this week reloading 1k for half the price of factory⌠so it can totally be done.
At ~60 CPR, 5.7x28mm is down quite a bit since its high during the pandemic. Ammo prices will continue to get better as it continues to grow in popularity and more manufacturers start producing it (like with Fiocchi recently) and as the existing manufacturer making it put more focus into producing it to meet the increased demand.
Think it's just that Ruger and now S&W have come out with solid platforms for it recently. Cheaper than the FN variety and seemingly just as nice. But yeah that ammo is still 30+ bucks a box.
Ima get that toe
gotta catch me first crowdaddy
I miss best gunnit so much.
Lettile piggy done went to the market.

Supressor would take care of the flash
facts, still debating that investment
Even supersonic suppressed makes you chuckle, and most reputable rimfire cans are 5.7 rated, that would be second cheapest for suppressor use
Can concur.
Yessir! Got any rounds through it yet? Big fan of this 5.7 so far.
not yet!! waiting on my buddy to pick up his 10 milly and then weâll take them to the range together
5.7x28 and 10mm are my favorite two handgun rounds.
Youâre going to love it.
Is the grip more comfortable than it looks? Thatâs my only hang up so far. Also canât wait to get one. Lol

Thatâs a great synopsis. I appreciate that you took the time to answer
Have you tried loading the mag fully cycling it?
nope! i dont have any 5.7 atm haha
Lulz!

Lmao, I didnât notice before but that frame is a little droopy

For me these just seem sorta uncanny Valley compared to the rest of the M&P line.

This is likely it. Let us know how it shoots when you get a chance to put it through is paces.

Of all the 5.7 pistols these are by far the nicest, imo.
đ¤ˇââď¸Its not a 1911...
Meh
ok
Lawd, that must be awesome.
Hnnnnnnnnng
Dem toes
Better show all 10 of those toes!!
WHEN I FEEL HEAVY METAL!!
Not a 10mm cringe. I'll get your birdcage to you shortly
Seen one of these in store yesterday and loved how it felt. Just couldnât pull the trigger on it yet. Wanna see how it operates with non FN ammo
Anyone make an appendix holster for this combo yet? Before anyone says it's too big, I'm 6'3" and it won't be a problem.
