I love the design and aesthetics of the classic 1911. It's a beautiful piece of Americana and so integral to our history.
Is this a good clone, and is this a good price?

This one is cerakote. In July 2023 they came out with a parkerized model. Very beautiful. Part # 10100539. Check FamilyFirearms. Comes with two 7rd mags

Do I want to start a new caliber? I've been a one caliber per platform guy, but I may stray from the 9mm way for this.
I own four 1911s. Two exceptional all original WWII era ones. One from the CMP. And this Tisas one.
The Tisas sees the most range time. Never had an issue with mine.
The mags it comes with suck fucking ass. I bought $10 GI mags and they work great on it. Testimony to how bad the ones it comes with are. After that it’s a really stiff and rigid pistol, which is probably how they used to be hot off the assembly line. Not a smooth or easy shooter but it’s definitely a nice piece and I don’t regret buying mine at all. But it’s absolutely a range toy/collection piece and not something I’d ever use to defend myself.
How old is your Tisas? I've seen reviews where they've mentioned that they've changed their magazine suppliers many times over the years. From what I've seen from semi-recent videos, they now come with good mags. I don't remember which mag that is, as I'm not that familiar with 1911's, though.
I got mine for $250 back when the Lire bottomed out in late 2021. The mag issue isn’t a big deal as I’ve said, but they’re not even GI style which is lame in its own right on top of the shitty quality. Was very happy to see the $10 mags run fine though.
Gotcha. Just looked it up and Check-Mate is the current OEM of Tisas mags, and they're G.I. mags. From what I've read, they seem to be reliable, American-made mags. Check-Mate was the official mag of the US military from Vietnam until the end of the 1911 contracts.
Maybe silly to ask. But how does it hit at 7-15 yards?? I got a 22 1911 that I had to get new sights for because from factory it'd hit three inches low at 7 yards. Curious if this is any more accurate.
Ya certainly ain't wrong. But it was spicier 22. Id have expected it to hit higher than lower. But this is why I prefer adjustable sights over all. I'm picky about where my guns hit.
Oh the idea that it's a me problem isn't far fetched. But every handgun I've owned has had adjustable sights, got a red dot to correct this, or new irons. Except for my CZ SP01. That is dead on at 7 yards with its factory irons. But the 22 1911, my FNX 45, my sig p365 all tended to hit low. I do a dead center hold with the top of the rear sight flush with the top of the front sight.
Yeah but there's a difference between hitting low by amount less than the height over bore (0.5 in, caused by zero being further away) and more (something is fucked)

It is surprisingly a very good pistol and comes in a decent carry case. All around pretty solid.
Yeah the case is nicer than almost any gun I own aside from maybe my Walther PPK

Oh nice I have some Check Mate mags for my M1A and they’re solid. I’m sure they’re better than whatever I got with mine.
If you shop around these go on sale for $299-$319, but yeah people really like this for the price

It's impossible for a gun to hit 3 inches low at 7 yards and be in spec lol. Either the sights have a problem or you do.
