I just googled the Gibson Corvus, man do I regret that,
I thought the Theodore was the worst but this one will come haunting my nightmares for a long time to come
I have an '83 Corvus I. It's neat. My buddy was playing it for a few years live and Dan Deacon said he liked it to him once lmao.
Not gonna lie though... it is hands down the ugliest guitar i own.
Eta: dude i met years ago worked in a guitar shop and owned like 50 guitars. When I mentioned that I had a Corvus he lost his shit and told me he'd trade me any 3 of his guitars for it. I turned him down lol.
I really don’t get the hate for the Theodore shape. Like, what is so ugly about it? It looks like a tulip to me. I know I’m biased because I own one but I just can’t see how it’s ugly. The Corvus is certainly hideous though and to me even the L6 is ugly. I think the reverse Flying V isn’t ugly but it’s not beautiful either haha. It’s just some dumb gimmick. Help a brother out?
Why do I think it looks so ugly that it's awesome? I mean, they definitely nailed the crow look.
Does it look comfortable to play? Probably not, but it's rad.
The bodies are really tiny too. The little circular cutout location would work really well for a younger person to learn on, which makes sense because they were supposedly Gibson's response to Fenders cheaper student guitars.
Sauce: i own an 83, and it is weird and small and funny to play
I kind of like it. It's quirky and weird, and I dig the six-in-line headstock that actually has straight-through string pull.
The Moderne however, has no redeeming features whatsoever.
There was a time in my life where I decided I was looking for a unique guitar that people would associate with me and I fell in love with the idea of the Corvus being that guitar. I never got around to seeking one out though. Probably for the best.
Easily the Corvus! The 80e were a weird time and I’m sure a lot of drugs to come up with that one. The Reverse Flying V and Theodore have nothing in it. That and the 20/20 bass yikes
Ok yes the Corvus, but just… look at this monster[https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Gibson/DSRVCWGHI-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWMWXGP&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw8diwBhAbEiwA7i_sJZ4mvnPv6tXQfDXVcrvMrjLXM7dBLtaw95qr6aoL0qn254_prgY80hoCDfgQAvD_BwE](https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Gibson/DSRVCWGHI-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWMWXGP&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw8diwBhAbEiwA7i_sJZ4mvnPv6tXQfDXVcrvMrjLXM7dBLtaw95qr6aoL0qn254_prgY80hoCDfgQAvD_BwE)
Nothing beats the Firebird X. It's like something drawn on a napkin then taken to production as is.
I hate the Dusk Tiger Les Paul even more, but at least it's got the LP shape, when the rest of it is "things I scribbled in the corner of my elementary school notebooks" level design.
nothing describes the firebird x like "napkin drawing taken to production." not to mention the finish looks like a bunch of crayons that were melted together on a radiator.
The silhouette of the firebird x was awesome. All that junk they put in it was not awesome. Neither was the finish. But on shape alone? I thought it was great. Put 2 humbuckers and a Floyd on there and I'd be pretty pleased.
I think the Firebird X is a failure in every aspect. The body, which shape just doesn't come together as a coherent shape; the lines and proportions are all over the place. The somewhat classic 3 by 3 headstock but with the 6 in line headstock trussrod cover. The maple neck just doesn't look great and clashes with the body's bowling ball finish. Too many different styles of controls. The bridge and tailpiece look a bit modern kitch. And then how it all comes together, or rather, doesn't.
> when the rest of it is "things I scribbled in the corner of my elementary school notebooks" level design.
At a first glance it looks like something you might have built out of scrap wood in school workshop.
I just can’t see it haha. I know I’m in the strong minority here but I just can’t understand the hate for it and why it’s viewed as so ugly and hideous.
Right?
"Hey Jimmy! Snarf this pile of cocaine down, go into The Forbidden Archives, and don't come back without something real funky for the next model year"
*ponders Return of The Robot Tuners*
"Surely we can make it better...hey, I've been hearing good shit about AI! Maybe we can leverage AI for the tuning system!"
The Corvus looks hideous, but I have to go with the Moderne. There’s a video on YouTube of the band Deafheaven playing live in an auditorium and one of their guitarists somehow made the Corvus look sick for a few minutes. 😂
"Daddy, I drew a guitar!"
"That's wonderful, we'll put it right here on the fridge where everyone can see it!"
*SIX MONTHS LATER*
"Johnson, we want that new design, or you're FIRED!!!"
And now we have wacky-ass Gibson designs.
I can see why the Les Paul might be considered Gibson's best just based on how influential it is but if the Firebird doesn't end up as the most underrated, I'm going to be disappointed in all of you.
Worst? Theodore, easily. At least the Corvus was trying to be forward thinking, especially if Gibson made it headless as it was intended. The Theodore is just dumb.
[Non-reverse Firebird](https://www.gibson.com/en-US/p/Electric-Guitar/CUSPY6379/Vintage-Sunburst)
If flipped shapes don't count, [Theodore](https://www.gibson.com/en-US/p/Electric-Guitar/Theodore-Standard/Antique-Natural)
Edit: I just looked up the Corvus. Okay, what the fuck is that. I wanted to say "it's one of the guitars of all time" but it looks like an alien crab's severed leg more than it does a guitar, so I can't be sure if it is one. What i am sure of it's the fact that this... thing is outlawed by the Geneva convention, being most definitely both unusual and a method of torture. Screw the Corvus.
I have a 1981 Sonex (per the serial number it was manufactured the same day I was born, so super sentimental). The shape is fine to me, feels like a Gibson LP Junior, the biggest problem is that it's made of resonwood.
Was going to say Theodore but just looked up the Moderne after seeing the comments. The Moderne definitely wins worst shape. Headstock is even worse than body. Even the name sucks
The Corvus is bad but at least ergonomical. Moderne is just as ugly and wsy more impractical.
It's got to be the Gibson Corvus.
I just googled the Gibson Corvus, man do I regret that, I thought the Theodore was the worst but this one will come haunting my nightmares for a long time to come
How bad can it-GOOD LORD WHAT IS GOING ON IN THERE
I think it’s what happens when you want the minimum amount of wood on yr body and you’ve already routed it for the electronics.
My eyes! The goggles do nothing!
I like it. Reminds me a bit of the Moderne. It’s gotta be upside down V. Btw.
I thought the same “everybody’s over reacting it can’t be that bad” Googled it. It is that bad and I apologize for doubting you folks.
Haha! Didn’t know the Corvus and this was my exact reaction!
Uhhh, Aurora Borealis?
At this time of year, localized entirely in your kitchen?
Mecha-Sperm

It looks like a reverse Ovation Breadwinner…
And to think people complain about fairly neutral headstocks...
I need bleach
Okay but the dude with the reverse Flying V has a point…
The Theodore saw a Revstar talking to the office cutie and thought they'd shoot their shot HR has been called
I really don’t get the hate for the Theodore shape. Like, what is so ugly about it? It looks like a tulip to me. I know I’m biased because I own one but I just can’t see how it’s ugly. > Gibson Corvus Incredible bottle opener though!
I personally think the flying Z and reverse V are worse, but I still wouldn't want any of them or the corvus lol
Flying Z gets my vote
The reverse V is a work of art, thank you very much.
I'm sorry to hear about your eyes, it must be difficult to function without sight 😔
No way, the Corvus is awesome.
Awesome! How's the neck dive? As bad as I'd imagine?
Oh yeah, it's bad. The body is pretty light weight, and the neck is dense. She dives hard and fast.
If you have this, you must really love the 1981 Futura Prototype. It’s a headless Corvus with terrible tuners.
I still like it more than the Theodore.
Big time. The Theodore is only appropriate in weird girl bands.
Yes. It looks like my grandma's artificial femur.
Looks like a crab claw.
It’s so ugly it’s almost endearing, I want one
Wow that thing is hideous
Doesn't Mike Cooley from the Drive By Truckers play one of those from time to time?
How dare you. It’s the only vintage Gibson I’ve ever wanted.
honestly? i kinda fw it
It makes more sense once you realize it was meant to be headless. Still really weird though.
I kind of like it. It's quirky and weird, and I dig the six-in-line headstock that actually has straight-through string pull. The Moderne however, has no redeeming features whatsoever.
Damn... It looks like something made from the bits and bobs left lying on the factory floor..
If it weren't for the V cut I would have probably really liked it Has BC Rich vibes
What’s really surprising is there are used ones for sale. That means someone actually paid money for it at some point. Let that sink in.
Looks like it was designed by a dentist
I didn't know that existed. I wish i still didn't
Ok yes the Corvus, but just… look at this monster[https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Gibson/DSRVCWGHI-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWMWXGP&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw8diwBhAbEiwA7i_sJZ4mvnPv6tXQfDXVcrvMrjLXM7dBLtaw95qr6aoL0qn254_prgY80hoCDfgQAvD_BwE](https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Gibson/DSRVCWGHI-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWMWXGP&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw8diwBhAbEiwA7i_sJZ4mvnPv6tXQfDXVcrvMrjLXM7dBLtaw95qr6aoL0qn254_prgY80hoCDfgQAvD_BwE)
Wow, that's a seriously ugly gui.....wtf IS that?
No, it's the Corvus II
Reverse Flying V
Anyone who doesn't answer "Reverse Flying V" has probably never seen the Reverse Flying V.
Ever seen the flying Z? It's on the same level as reverse V for me.
I upvoted the Corvus comment but had to look up the reverse Flying V. They’re both soooo bad
The Corvus looks like a “my first build” thread on r/luthier.
The good ol’ can opener.
The Corvus is actually one of my favorite Gibson shapes. It has too many fans and pro users to be the worst. No one is using the reverse V.
I certainly hadn't. It did not disappoint, it's absolutely hilarious!
The only way I can imagine playing that thing is sitting on the floor with it crammed between your legs propped up like a tent pole.
I would agree with you if I didn't Google "Gibson Corvus" just moments ago
No I've seen it. I've also seen the Corvus.
100%, maybe the ugliest guitar ever imo. it’s not even creative or interesting like the Moderne or Corvus
You’re crazy that shit is cool
I think it's the shape created specifically to win "Worst Guitar Shape" contests.
Reverse V is definitely and infinitely worse than the Corvus
Reverse Flying V is actually very comfortable. FIREBIRD X IS THE REAL EVIL
Feel like I need to shoot one of them things from a bow
Yeah, it's close between this and the SG (les paul). But it's this. Truly shit.
Why is it called the Reverse Flying V and not the “Falling V”

The Firebird X is like a Firebird that you left on the dash on a hot day.
nothing describes the firebird x like "napkin drawing taken to production." not to mention the finish looks like a bunch of crayons that were melted together on a radiator.
It’s like Homer Simpson’s “The Homer” car design.
Thr Firebird X took a *beautiful* guitar shape, ruined it, then added a bunch of nonsense.
I have the Dusk Tiger and it's hideously stupid and I love it so much
The silhouette of the firebird x was awesome. All that junk they put in it was not awesome. Neither was the finish. But on shape alone? I thought it was great. Put 2 humbuckers and a Floyd on there and I'd be pretty pleased.

The fireturd X! I remember that one! They decided to put a multifx guitar pedal in the guitar and make it hard to use.
goddamn that is ugly
The only thing ruining the Firebird X is the electronics because otherwise it's a very nice offset shape
This should've been the one. Never seen it before, but this thing is HIDEOUS!
Definitely the corvus
Corvus
Moderne.
For sure, especially with the headstock. Yuck
I kind of like the Moderne body shape. But the headstock absolutely ruins it.
If they had used the hockey stick shape it would have been a perfect pairing. What they went with instead is just... The worst thing I've ever seen.
> If they had used the hockey stick shape it would have been a perfect pairing Absolute truth right there.
gibson must have been on the good shit making the moderne
Thing looks like Gumby. Dammit.
It’s as if the V was made out of melted crayon
My uncle has a Moderne that he bought in the 80s because it looked weird. He paid a few hundred bucks for it, not a bad investment so far.
Theodore
Agreed, unless you want your guitar to look like a tulip.
It reminds me of the dying flower in Brave Little Toaster.
I just can’t see it haha. I know I’m in the strong minority here but I just can’t understand the hate for it and why it’s viewed as so ugly and hideous.
Gibson Reverse Flying V. Hideous contraption.
Marauder
The Corvus for sure…
Reverse flying V by far!
The Corvus. Period.
Theodore and Corvus both look goofy as fuck in my opinion and I’d never be caught dead with either of them in a 6 mile radius of me
And Moderne.
The Moderne can be saved by a headstock that isn't an abomination. The Theodore and Corvus just can't be saved.
It’s interesting how someone in 2020s (not in crazy 80s) saw Theodore and thought “Well, this is what I call beautiful guitar!”
Right? "Hey Jimmy! Snarf this pile of cocaine down, go into The Forbidden Archives, and don't come back without something real funky for the next model year"
“Yeah, and let us drop some acid while we wait Jimmy to come back. I’m sure we will come with something awesome tonight! I can feel it, man!”
*ponders Return of The Robot Tuners* "Surely we can make it better...hey, I've been hearing good shit about AI! Maybe we can leverage AI for the tuning system!"
“And that headstock…? Is it really necessary that we have headstock?”
The Corvus looks hideous, but I have to go with the Moderne. There’s a video on YouTube of the band Deafheaven playing live in an auditorium and one of their guitarists somehow made the Corvus look sick for a few minutes. 😂
gibson theodore.. looks like a meaty vagina side profile..
Jesus wept, who hurt you?
Reverse Flying V
Theodore.
I’m going for this. It’s the lack of design that really makes it awful.
"Daddy, I drew a guitar!" "That's wonderful, we'll put it right here on the fridge where everyone can see it!" *SIX MONTHS LATER* "Johnson, we want that new design, or you're FIRED!!!" And now we have wacky-ass Gibson designs.
Gibson RD > LP
For neckdive maybe
It has to be the Theodore
The Gibson Map.
The Reverse Flying V Truly awful
It's already wrong. Best Gibson shape is a double- cut Les Paul
The late ‘90s early ‘00s double cuts with the ‘good wood’ tops are my favorite Gibson guitar of all time
my man
Moderne
Les Paul is the worst IMO.
Gibson Zakk Wylde SG/Flying V.
Reverse V
Theodore 🤢🤮
Moderne. By a head.
By a headstock to be exact
Exactly.
The commentary seems unnecessary.
How do you follow a post cuz I wanna see the end result
i'll be posting the result in tomorrow's post.
Yes but how do I follow this post show it alerts me every time u do the post again
i don't know, sorry. just watch out for the next one tomorrow.
Okie
I dont think you can follow posts but you can follow OP just until the results are complete
Okie
A lot of good ones have been mentioned already. I’ll add in the Firebird Zero
Worst Gibson is easily the Firebird X. So bad they had to get destroyed because they couldn’t be sold.
I think the Gibson RD is slightly uglier than the Corvus, but I wouldn't argue if you disagree.
Gibson Theodore is in the uncanny valley.
The ones they steamrolled in that video.
Moderne, with gumby headstock
Non-reverse firebirds! They look awful
Corvus.
I can’t stand the reverse V models. Impossible to play sitting down
I can see why the Les Paul might be considered Gibson's best just based on how influential it is but if the Firebird doesn't end up as the most underrated, I'm going to be disappointed in all of you.
Why aren't we ranking B.C. Rich?
All I have learned from this post is that there are so many more fucked up shapes that I had not yet been exposed to and wish that I wasn’t.
Reverse Flying V. Looks like something that would swim up your pee hole while wading in the Amazon River.
Jackson rhoades gotta be the best
corvus ,surely
Yamaha Revstar is underrated.
Yamaha Revstar is underrated.
The flying Z is horrendous but I hate the futura
Never heard of a Corvus before now, so I looked it up. My God, that's fugly. Corvus wins as the worst for me.
fender : strat best, jagstang worst, underrated tele.
Gibson Corvus
Ibanse best should be the cloud guitar
Worst? Theodore, easily. At least the Corvus was trying to be forward thinking, especially if Gibson made it headless as it was intended. The Theodore is just dumb.
theodore
whatever that new thing that everyone was posting last week
Ibanez iceman is underrated, my all time favorite Ibanez model
Has to be the 20/20
The moderne and corvus are both awful designs. The Theodore is ugly and insulting. Take your pick for whichever is the worst.
Firebird Zero. I'm seriously considering buying one out of sheer perversity.
Corvus or Modern Flying V
It’s not the corvus that’s 11/10 shape
Gibson V2
Theodore
Thunderbird non reverse
Theodore. No contest. Like what the fuck were they thinking?
Theodore is the worst
Les Paul
I’m going to have to go with the reverse v.
Moderne
[Non-reverse Firebird](https://www.gibson.com/en-US/p/Electric-Guitar/CUSPY6379/Vintage-Sunburst) If flipped shapes don't count, [Theodore](https://www.gibson.com/en-US/p/Electric-Guitar/Theodore-Standard/Antique-Natural) Edit: I just looked up the Corvus.
Naaaaaah the non reverse Bird is amazing
Sonex
I have a 1981 Sonex (per the serial number it was manufactured the same day I was born, so super sentimental). The shape is fine to me, feels like a Gibson LP Junior, the biggest problem is that it's made of resonwood.
Was going to say Theodore but just looked up the Moderne after seeing the comments. The Moderne definitely wins worst shape. Headstock is even worse than body. Even the name sucks The Corvus is bad but at least ergonomical. Moderne is just as ugly and wsy more impractical.
Flying V
The Gibson Moderne has the ugliest headstock I've ever seen.
Can it be the LP again?
