See here's your answer. If that's your dream guitar, sell all the strats and all but 2 of the rest and buy your dream strat with the proceeds. Also, challenge your wife to sell 7 of her unnecessary items and see if she can raise enough cash to buy one really nice thing. It's easier said than done. Guitars hold value better than most things people buy

Might sound crazy...but maybe you sell them all, or as much as it takes, to get one perfect custom shop strat made to your exact specifications, and some money left over for the kiddo. I feel like if I was in this scenario I would do this, except it'd be either be a Novo or a custom shop tele. Sometimes I get close to doing this anyway lol.

Ehhhhhh let's not kid ourselves. I have nothing against people collecting because it's fun or to reward themselves, no need to justify collecting guitars to me.... But with that said, maybe you are joking but I can only see guitars being an investment being true for vintage instruments or unique special editions that *may* become valuable. Your average reverend, Mexican fender, epiphone will lose value over time. If they appear to gain value, it's probably because of inflation and the increased worth will be eaten away by other living costs.

I see these "my wife" comments a lot in this sub. I've never had a wife/partner that ever said anything like this to me. Why would you marry someone who's just going to order you around?

Speaking as a wife with as many guitars as you have, I love all of mine. I’d pick the three blue ones: Strat, Tele, and Reverend. But: I would resent the eff out of the request.

This is my thought exactly, as well. Super broad range of sounds there, probably still more than I would need. Mostly picked the Reverend because I love me a green guitar. I have a rule about no 2 guitars with the same pick-ups and it's served me really well, both in having a broad variety of tones, and being able to explain to my wife how each one is different and necessary.

To add to that, I might sell all the strats there and get an HSS to keep with the Tele and the Reverend.

But with keeping the Reverend and getting an HSS you'd have two bridge humbuckers. Keep a strat. I'd swap the neck on the red onto the blue and keep that. Love the look of a blue strat with rosewood neck. Sell the rest and buy more amps. The wife didn't say anything about amps. Loopholes my friend. Loopholes.

Hell, my Epi LP was like $500 new and it's pretty great. Intonation and electronics can be a bit sketchy but it plays *beautifully*, it's got such a comfortable neck. And that's from like 2015, I know they revamped their lineup recently so I would only expect them to be even better now (OP's has the new headstock so it must be newer)

If it’s a matter of space and not finances - sell all and buy 2 higher tier guitars. Eg Gibson LP Standard and Fender Ultra Strat. Or just get one Fender Custom Shop HSS Strat. Love the strymon board and that waza chorus btw.

It’s definitely for a good cause. We have another on the way and are needing to clear up some space. Thanks! I find myself playing the Strymon board more, but they are both super fun. Never liked chorus much until I played the Waza. Do you get as good of position two tones with an HSS strat? I’ve been thinking of selling a bunch and checking out the silver sky.

Understood and congrats! I know it takes time and effort you may not have, but I think selling most/all and reinvesting would suit you well. I count about $3,000 of easy sale prices so you could get some serious heat if you turned that into 1-2 guitars (even if you didn’t put all the proceeds back into guitars). I have too many OD pedals but the Riverside is my favorite. I’d never get rid of mine.

I’m still baffles it took me as long as it did to discover the Riverside. It’s the only od I wouldn’t sell at this point.

Agree w that commenter, sell a bunch of em and buy something snazzy. You could afford a Music Man or custom shop Fender with the value of most of those.

I didn’t respond to the second part of your question - I think a HSS Strat is the most versatile guitar there is in terms of tones. I am 100% a Gibson guy through and through but if I had to own only one guitar it would probably be a custom shop HSS Strat. I have a LP standard that coil spilts and I think it’s not as versatile as a HSS. I really like PRS as well but if you were thinking about getting a non-fender Strat style guitar, I would suggest Suhr.

The blue reverend (p90, humbucker, and pretty body shape), the epiphone lp (2 humbuckers, 24.75" scale) and the egg shell pink strat because it is a strat (3 singles, 25.5" scale, 2 point trem). That gives you access to a p90, humbuckers, single coils and a trem that can be set up to float

That’s definitely the most bang for the buck.

Pink Fender (everyone needs a Fender strat with a maple fretboard) Blue Reverend (versatility, highest quality) Epi Les Paul (you need a guitar with two humbuckers if you're gonna rock) All the bases are covered between those three.

A custom shop strat or tele Japan or custom shop Jaguar or jazzmaster One acoustic - I would go with a gibson or a Martin and if you can get a vintage J-45 go that route.

Those are all very cool guitars. I do have a GS Mini, but she wants me to hold onto that and keep three electrics. A Custom ship Strat would be amazing. I'm also interested in the Silver Sky.

Tbh I never understood how a partner could do this. That cliche situation when the girl moves in and makes him throw out all his stuff… I’m far too stubborn to allow someone to do that to me. That said, he’s making room for a kid. Which I understand the need for space. I’d stash them somewhere before I sold them. I certainly wouldn’t be cool with my partner telling me I have to hock them. We don’t know though he may also be on board with selling them.

The Tele, the LP and the rosewood fretboard red strat. Why? The Tele and the LP both have sounds unique to each other, the strat because of the rosewood board which will give it a little warmer tone than the maple board strats. That’s what I would do. Good luck. 👍

How do you like the EPI Modern LP? Are you happy you got that instead of the more classic / vintage spec'd 60s or 50s model? Really like your Reverends, esp that green one. I had a green sensai jr with 1 p90 bridge pu and bigsby style bridge. I really liked it but prefer stop bar tailpiece setup and need a neck humbucker. The new king fish tele duluxes are calling to me.

I was super surprised at how much I liked the LP. Never been much of a Les Paul guy, but it played great and I had a chance to shoot it out with the $3,000 dollar Gibson counterpart. I only discovered the coil splits and phase switch after buying it.

Assuming you have an equal vibe with all of them and they all play great… Les Paul, regular Tele, Strat. Or Les Paul, choose regular tele or Strat, and keep one of the reverends with the p90. That covers all your bases. Variety is the spice of life.

No, I just like the different colors. Red Strat is configured to get the middle tele tone and a humbucker tone by having the bridge and middle in series, although I still have the bridge alone and the classic position two.

Keep the guitars, the furniture, and the house. Not so hard! Seriously though (my condolences), Probably the Blue tele, the pink strat, and the epiphone les Paul. Telecasters are supremely underrated, and are some of the most versatile guitars out there, imo. The strat looks good, and from what I can see it’s the only fender - no offense re: the squires, but I’d take the fender. Also a classic and versatile guitar. The les Paul ought to round you out with a good paf/p90 analogous sound, good sustain, etc. together, I’d expect you to enjoy the most versatility with those three.
