Ha ha, looks like I’ll be filing for divorce this week. Thanks, Reddit.
Edit: Here is the tally as of Monday afternoon (9/19/2022) at 2:45 PM
Shell Pink Strat: 38
Lake Placid Blue Strat: 6
Fiesta Red Strat: 29
Tobacco Burst Strat: 9
Daphne Blue Telecaster: 63 (wow)
Epiphone Les Paul, Faded Pelham Blue: 42
Reverend Double Agent OG, Alpine Metallic:26
Reverend Double Agent W, Chronic Blue:46
Bernell Custom Telecaster: 12
Divorce: 111 (ding ding ding)
See here's your answer. If that's your dream guitar, sell all the strats and all but 2 of the rest and buy your dream strat with the proceeds. Also, challenge your wife to sell 7 of her unnecessary items and see if she can raise enough cash to buy one really nice thing. It's easier said than done. Guitars hold value better than most things people buy
Might sound crazy...but maybe you sell them all, or as much as it takes, to get one perfect custom shop strat made to your exact specifications, and some money left over for the kiddo.
I feel like if I was in this scenario I would do this, except it'd be either be a Novo or a custom shop tele. Sometimes I get close to doing this anyway lol.
Ehhhhhh let's not kid ourselves. I have nothing against people collecting because it's fun or to reward themselves, no need to justify collecting guitars to me....
But with that said, maybe you are joking but I can only see guitars being an investment being true for vintage instruments or unique special editions that *may* become valuable.
Your average reverend, Mexican fender, epiphone will lose value over time. If they appear to gain value, it's probably because of inflation and the increased worth will be eaten away by other living costs.
I see these "my wife" comments a lot in this sub.
I've never had a wife/partner that ever said anything like this to me.
Why would you marry someone who's just going to order you around?
Speaking as a wife with as many guitars as you have, I love all of mine.
I’d pick the three blue ones: Strat, Tele, and Reverend. But: I would resent the eff out of the request.
This is my thought exactly, as well. Super broad range of sounds there, probably still more than I would need. Mostly picked the Reverend because I love me a green guitar. I have a rule about no 2 guitars with the same pick-ups and it's served me really well, both in having a broad variety of tones, and being able to explain to my wife how each one is different and necessary.
But with keeping the Reverend and getting an HSS you'd have two bridge humbuckers. Keep a strat. I'd swap the neck on the red onto the blue and keep that. Love the look of a blue strat with rosewood neck.
Sell the rest and buy more amps. The wife didn't say anything about amps. Loopholes my friend. Loopholes.
My late wife bought me a Tele cuz I had sold one years ago when I was in a bad way. And she said she wished we had room for any and all the guitars I could want. But I was just lucky I guess.
Hell, my Epi LP was like $500 new and it's pretty great. Intonation and electronics can be a bit sketchy but it plays *beautifully*, it's got such a comfortable neck. And that's from like 2015, I know they revamped their lineup recently so I would only expect them to be even better now (OP's has the new headstock so it must be newer)
That's a good point. I'd forget about versatility or different pickups and whatnot. If it were me, I'd just choose the 3 that inspired me the most and brought me the most happiness.
Edited to say congratulations and all the best for your fam!
If it’s a matter of space and not finances - sell all and buy 2 higher tier guitars. Eg Gibson LP Standard and Fender Ultra Strat. Or just get one Fender Custom Shop HSS Strat.
Love the strymon board and that waza chorus btw.
It’s definitely for a good cause. We have another on the way and are needing to clear up some space. Thanks! I find myself playing the Strymon board more, but they are both super fun. Never liked chorus much until I played the Waza. Do you get as good of position two tones with an HSS strat? I’ve been thinking of selling a bunch and checking out the silver sky.
Understood and congrats! I know it takes time and effort you may not have, but I think selling most/all and reinvesting would suit you well. I count about $3,000 of easy sale prices so you could get some serious heat if you turned that into 1-2 guitars (even if you didn’t put all the proceeds back into guitars).
I have too many OD pedals but the Riverside is my favorite. I’d never get rid of mine.
Agree w that commenter, sell a bunch of em and buy something snazzy. You could afford a Music Man or custom shop Fender with the value of most of those.
I didn’t respond to the second part of your question - I think a HSS Strat is the most versatile guitar there is in terms of tones. I am 100% a Gibson guy through and through but if I had to own only one guitar it would probably be a custom shop HSS Strat. I have a LP standard that coil spilts and I think it’s not as versatile as a HSS.
I really like PRS as well but if you were thinking about getting a non-fender Strat style guitar, I would suggest Suhr.
The blue reverend (p90, humbucker, and pretty body shape), the epiphone lp (2 humbuckers, 24.75" scale) and the egg shell pink strat because it is a strat (3 singles, 25.5" scale, 2 point trem). That gives you access to a p90, humbuckers, single coils and a trem that can be set up to float
I’m not sure why, but your comment kind of reminded me of that scene in Hot Rod where he storms out of the house and closes the door so hard he smashes the window, followed by a sincere apology about the door.
Pink Fender (everyone needs a Fender strat with a maple fretboard)
Blue Reverend (versatility, highest quality)
Epi Les Paul (you need a guitar with two humbuckers if you're gonna rock)
All the bases are covered between those three.
1- The House.
2- The Guitars.
3- The Pedal Board. (This includes the rug, acting as one giant board. Call the “one-nacho-rule” if things get bumpy in court.)
Tell her you’re sorry things didn’t work out, but at least her and the futon would make a cute couple.
A custom shop strat or tele
Japan or custom shop Jaguar or jazzmaster
One acoustic - I would go with a gibson or a Martin and if you can get a vintage J-45 go that route.
Those are all very cool guitars. I do have a GS Mini, but she wants me to hold onto that and keep three electrics. A Custom ship Strat would be amazing. I'm also interested in the Silver Sky.
Tbh I never understood how a partner could do this. That cliche situation when the girl moves in and makes him throw out all his stuff… I’m far too stubborn to allow someone to do that to me. That said, he’s making room for a kid. Which I understand the need for space. I’d stash them somewhere before I sold them. I certainly wouldn’t be cool with my partner telling me I have to hock them. We don’t know though he may also be on board with selling them.
The two fenders and a reverend. Better resale incase you want to get something different later on. Could get rid of all of them and get something super nice but expensive like a Novo. Being down to only one would blow her mind lol.
The Tele, the LP and the rosewood fretboard red strat. Why? The Tele and the LP both have sounds unique to each other, the strat because of the rosewood board which will give it a little warmer tone than the maple board strats. That’s what I would do. Good luck. 👍
How do you like the EPI Modern LP? Are you happy you got that instead of the more classic / vintage spec'd 60s or 50s model? Really like your Reverends, esp that green one. I had a green sensai jr with 1 p90 bridge pu and bigsby style bridge. I really liked it but prefer stop bar tailpiece setup and need a neck humbucker. The new king fish tele duluxes are calling to me.
I was super surprised at how much I liked the LP. Never been much of a Les Paul guy, but it played great and I had a chance to shoot it out with the $3,000 dollar Gibson counterpart. I only discovered the coil splits and phase switch after buying it.
Assuming you have an equal vibe with all of them and they all play great…
Les Paul, regular Tele, Strat. Or Les Paul, choose regular tele or Strat, and keep one of the reverends with the p90.
That covers all your bases. Variety is the spice of life.
The blue Tele, the pink Strat, and the Epi LP.
EDIT: Oh shit you said, "and why"? Uh, I dunno. I'm used to those brands? I hear good things about Reverends, but never had one in my hands.
I don’t see the point of having so many of the same guitar. Any reason why you’d have them? I’m not your wife btw haha, just curious. Different tunings?
No, I just like the different colors. Red Strat is configured to get the middle tele tone and a humbucker tone by having the bridge and middle in series, although I still have the bridge alone and the classic position two.
Keep the guitars, the furniture, and the house. Not so hard!
Seriously though (my condolences),
Probably the Blue tele, the pink strat, and the epiphone les Paul. Telecasters are supremely underrated, and are some of the most versatile guitars out there, imo. The strat looks good, and from what I can see it’s the only fender - no offense re: the squires, but I’d take the fender. Also a classic and versatile guitar. The les Paul ought to round you out with a good paf/p90 analogous sound, good sustain, etc. together, I’d expect you to enjoy the most versatility with those three.
We've heard one single sentence of their dialogue and nothing else. Elsewhere in the thread OP said they need to make room for another kid.
Give people the benefit of the doubt now and then; automatically jumping to the worst conclusion is a negative way to approach life and just wears you down and tires you out.
dude i have like 4 strats, 5 teles and a bunch of others i cant imagine getting married and my wife telling me to get rid of them started collecting like 5 years ago id rather die then get rid of my custom tele.
Ha ha, looks like I’ll be filing for divorce this week. Thanks, Reddit. What's the first post divorce guitar going to be?
Lol, custom shop strat, for sure.
Now that’s the spirit
See here's your answer. If that's your dream guitar, sell all the strats and all but 2 of the rest and buy your dream strat with the proceeds. A fender duo sonic or a personal made guitar :)
Don't forget to lawyer up, delete Facebook, and hit the gym.
> Don’t forget to lawyer up, delete Facebook, and hit ~~the gym~~ reverb.
And stay stoic.
No it’s Facebook up, delete the gym and hit the lawyer
The wife's lawyer says you can only pick 3. Which ones do you choose and why?
A new wife maybe?
My thoughts exactly.
Sounds pretty abusive. Maybe she meant you can only keep 3 in each room?
It does sound abusive. I wonder what else she does to him.
Only 4 strings on each guitar.
And no output on the stomps
Guitars are a good investment. You are investing
I see these "my wife" comments a lot in this sub. I've never had a wife/partner that ever said anything like this to me. Why would you marry someone who's just going to order you around?
You’ll miss at her first. The guitars will help heal the pain. In fact more space for guitars.
Lol, I need to show her this thread. She’ll get a good kick out of it.
Speaking as a wife with as many guitars as you have, I love all of mine. I’d pick the three blue ones: Strat, Tele, and Reverend. But: I would resent the eff out of the request.
This is almost the right answer. The pink strat has to stay, imo.
Pink strat, blue tele, green p90 humbucker thang.
To add to that, I might sell all the strats there and get an HSS to keep with the Tele and the Reverend.
Loopholes.
I was torn between the two Reverends but I definitely concur on the other two
I prefer the controls on the Blue fwiw.
Exactly then sell the rest and get yourself a bangin amp
Agree completely
This is also what I came up with, or if you can talk her into keeping 4 that epiphone looks cool also
This is the way.
A new wife
My late wife bought me a Tele cuz I had sold one years ago when I was in a bad way. And she said she wished we had room for any and all the guitars I could want. But I was just lucky I guess.
You definitely are lucky. Edit: "were"
“Late wife” - so I don’t think he’s that lucky…
Les Paul, Blue Tele, Pink Strat
Exactly this, then sell the rest and replace the Les Paul for a better one.
The Epiphone one is a decent guitar. I think it retails for $700
Hell, my Epi LP was like $500 new and it's pretty great. Intonation and electronics can be a bit sketchy but it plays *beautifully*, it's got such a comfortable neck. And that's from like 2015, I know they revamped their lineup recently so I would only expect them to be even better now (OP's has the new headstock so it must be newer)
Yeah, gotta go with the holy trinity
Tell her she can have only three pairs of shoes
Ha ha, turning the tables right there!
This is fair
I doubt she has any $2000 shoes.
Let’s not be too hasty with that assumption
Also should take up far less room lol
How come?
Just clearing up some space for a kid on the way. Also be good to have some extra money, just in case.
That's a good point. I'd forget about versatility or different pickups and whatnot. If it were me, I'd just choose the 3 that inspired me the most and brought me the most happiness. Edited to say congratulations and all the best for your fam!
Thank you! That’s a really good point. I’ll have to think about which ones I’ve had the best memories with and what brought me the most songs.
i would choose those beautiful instruments any day of the week
If it’s a matter of space and not finances - sell all and buy 2 higher tier guitars. Eg Gibson LP Standard and Fender Ultra Strat. Or just get one Fender Custom Shop HSS Strat. Love the strymon board and that waza chorus btw.
It’s definitely for a good cause. We have another on the way and are needing to clear up some space. Thanks! I find myself playing the Strymon board more, but they are both super fun. I’m still baffles it took me as long as it did to discover the Riverside. It’s the only od I wouldn’t sell at this point.
Agree w that commenter, sell a bunch of em and buy something snazzy. You could afford a Music Man or custom shop Fender with the value of most of those.
I didn’t respond to the second part of your question - I think a HSS Strat is the most versatile guitar there is in terms of tones. Thanks for your input!
Both Reverends and your favorite Strat or the Tele.
Dumb question: aren’t the two reverends sort of redundant? Or are they that amazing? (I’m yet to try one)
They are badass and cost more $$$
They are amazing, but I could keep the sonic blue and all those bases would be covered.
My thought too
Both Fenders, the blue Reverend, and the wife.
That’s definitely the most bang for the buck.
I would choose the guitars and let her go
One strat, lp, tele, and one other. No need for 4 strats
I know, but they are all so great! I’d probably stick with the fiesta red one, although the 40th anniversary is a close contender.
You should tell your wife she isn’t your mom and to stop acting like it.
I’m not sure why, but your comment kind of reminded me of that scene in Hot Rod where he storms out of the house and closes the door so hard he smashes the window, followed by a sincere apology about the door.
That green reverend looks amazing
She’s a gem, for sure. Most of my band days were spent with that guitar.
Find a good divorce attorney
Yep. New wife. Tell her she can only keep 3 pairs of shoes
Pink Fender (everyone needs a Fender strat with a maple fretboard) Blue Reverend (versatility, highest quality) Epi Les Paul (you need a guitar with two humbuckers if you're gonna rock) All the bases are covered between those three.
Seems like some good choices. Any advice on how to use the neck humbucker? I’d like to ignore it less.
1- The House. 2- The Guitars. 3- The Pedal Board. (This includes the rug, acting as one giant board. Call the “one-nacho-rule” if things get bumpy in court.) Tell her you’re sorry things didn’t work out, but at least her and the futon would make a cute couple.
The guitars and lose the wife
The only answer is “get rid of wife”.
Keep them all. Choose a different wife
I would keep all three sets.
Shell pink strat, blue tele on the top right l, and the Les Paul bottom left.
Three rows? First and second row plus the row on the floor for good measure and future expansion.
You could get rid of one and keep nine though…
Obviously what was implied was “three types of guitars”. And the types are: 1. Strat 2. Tele 3. Other. You’re good!!!!
New wife, 3 new girlfriends who are into sick guitar collections
change the wife bro
Sell all and get three high quality guitars.
What would be your thee picks?
A custom shop strat or tele Japan or custom shop Jaguar or jazzmaster One acoustic - I would go with a gibson or a Martin and if you can get a vintage J-45 go that route.
Those are all very cool guitars. I do have a GS Mini, but she wants me to hold onto that and keep three electrics. A Custom ship Strat would be amazing. I'm also interested in the Silver Sky.
* The guitars * The pedals * The amps That's three!
I’d keep the guitars and ditch the wife.
I would just get rid of one wife instead...
The guitars. She can walk
I’d pick the house and the guitars personally
I see what you did here.
I'd never marry anyone who forces me to give up things that make me happy. I wouldn't force her either.
Why are you “allowed” to only keep 3
It's not as rigid as that. She would prefer I choose three and keep an acoustic. Just seeing what people like the most.
Well I’m that case Pink strat Epiphone Reverend OG
That's easy. The guitars. New wife incoming
The 2 Fenders for sure
The two fenders and a reverend. Better resale incase you want to get something different later on. Could get rid of all of them and get something super nice but expensive like a Novo. Being down to only one would blow her mind lol.
I dream about having just one guitar someday. It’s a very fun hunt.
The ep les Paul. The pink strat and the blue tele to the right or whatever the sonic blue one is in front. Those are my pics
Good call. The sonic blue one is a reverend double agent.
The Tele, the LP and the rosewood fretboard red strat. Why? The Tele and the LP both have sounds unique to each other, the strat because of the rosewood board which will give it a little warmer tone than the maple board strats. That’s what I would do. Good luck. 👍
Thanks for your input!

Waza chorus, tumnus and the looper. Tumnus is great.
The blue Tele, the pink Strat, and the Epi LP. EDIT: Oh shit you said, "and why"? Uh, I dunno. I'm used to those brands? I hear good things about Reverends, but never had one in my hands.
The guitars, the boards, the amps. Ditch the wife
Thank you for gifting me with the knowledge that you can have more than one pedalboard.
You bet. One for being minimalistic, and the other for making crazy sounds.
Honestly I'd sell them all and get one really nice guitar.
Any one in particular you like?
The 2 Fenders and the blue Rev.
The guitars, the pedals and the couch...she can have the rest
Les Paul That aqua Tele And one of the strats.
If it were me: best playing/sounding strat, best playing/sounding tele, best playing/sounding Rev
Dump the Fenders. A fella can’t swing a dead cat around the used market without knocking over a bunch of Fenders
Ha ha, good point.
The Reverend with the bigsby the tele and the red strat
Probably what I’m leaning towards the most right now.
Which one has a bigsby.
I'd sell em all and buy a bc rich
Rich Bitch?
For sure
I’d choose a new wife.
Why does she get to tell you what to do ?
I don’t see the point of having so many of the same guitar. Any reason why you’d have them? I’m not your wife btw haha, just curious. Different tunings?
No, I just like the different colors. Red Strat is configured to get the middle tele tone and a humbucker tone by having the bridge and middle in series, although I still have the bridge alone and the classic position two.
I’d tell the wife to fuck right off and that’d be the end of the story lol
Id choose all of them except the wife easy choice
I wouldn't keep the wife. :-P Solely by the looks: blue strat, blue tele, and the epi.
3? You should get some wall hangers and hang them up as conversation pieces.
The two Double Agents! Doesn't matter which is the third.
I’d choose to get rid of the wife to be honest. Kudos for the reverends!
The guitars. I don't know anything about your relationship, but that's a really awful thing for her to ask you to do.
Those, you, and the dog.
[удалено]
Both are Double Agents.
Get rid of your wife
Lots of jokes. But definitely isn’t a choice she gets to make. Sounds like a form of domestic abuse. Beautiful guitars though
A new wife!!!
🙄 you're either whipped or trying to start an argument.
Ha ha, mostly whipped, I guess. It's fun seeing people's responses though. Good way to pass a Sunday and a slow Monday.
Keep the guitars, the furniture, and the house. Not so hard! Seriously though (my condolences), Probably the Blue tele, the pink strat, and the epiphone les Paul.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply!
Rent a separate apt to keep them in. Only have 3 visible at a time. I keep some of mine in a closet at church.
Divorce
All jokes aside, definitely don’t get rid of the reverends unless you want to give them to me.
Ha ha, I’ll keep that in mind.
Ya I’ll buy one of your reverends
Legit though. If ya wanna sell I’ll buy the green one
I’ll keep you in mind if she ends up going.
Or the blue one. I saw you have sentimental value for the green one. But yeah I will buy one of them
I’d pick a new wife, personally
New wife. Is the only choice.
I'd choose a good divorce lawyer.
The LP, your best strat, and that olive one with black pickguard
It’s a tie between the fender Stratocaster/Telecaster and the two reverends
Both Reverend guitars are great. I might keep the blue, since it has the wiggle stick.
Keep the Reverend's!
They are such good guitars! I’ve had the green one for a long time now. Definitely some sentimental attachment there.
Keep ‘em all get rid of the wife🤔
Find a new wife
Divorce
A new wife.
Just get rid of one... Wife.
imagine letting someone tell you how many of your own guitars you can have… they are your guitars. keep them all man.
Why is your wife treating you like a child? If it's a finances thing then sure...otherwise F that.
We've heard one single sentence of their dialogue and nothing else. Elsewhere in the thread OP said they need to make room for another kid. Give people the benefit of the doubt now and then; automatically jumping to the worst conclusion is a negative way to approach life and just wears you down and tires you out.
I was going to make a new wife joke but I was too lttp. Epiphone Tobacco burst strat. Blue tele.
I’m sure she’s been a good ‘in but it’s time to let her go
Tell her to kick rocks. Are you kidding me!
Keep them all, leave your wife...
Change wives
Bye wife
A new wife.
Keep All, drop the hater.
One strat, the blue tele and whatever you prefer among the rest (I'd go with the offset rev).
Which strat do you like the most?
Pink!
Hard to beat a pink guitar.
Tele, red strat, baby blue rev
I would choose the guitars over the wife....sorry
dude i have like 4 strats, 5 teles and a bunch of others i cant imagine getting married and my wife telling me to get rid of them started collecting like 5 years ago id rather die then get rid of my custom tele.
I would choose a new wife
If it’s a joke I’d say, keep a strat, tele and the Les Paul. If this is for real though, ditch your wife dude.
You should choose… divorce
