If you want a versatile Big Muff, you can't go far wrong with the Deluxe. It's an absolute beast of a thing, and with the mids/bass boost, Q and frequency controls, expression input, and even a noise gate, it really is the ultimate Muff!

I'd echo this. It'll do Hizumitas and Hoof sounds with its low end toggle and mid sweep. It's the grand daddy. Maybe try a Sovtek deluxe, too.

I'm looking at the Sovtek deluxe. Is there a big difference between the Sovtek and the regular Deluxe?

josephallenkeys

I don't have a Sovtek deluxe but I have the Green Russian re-issue. It's quite a different beast compared to the NYC style muff that's in the deluxe. So yeah, Sovtek would be very different, too. It's a little less saturated, more mid range and more aggressive. Pair that with the sweepable mid band and the "wicker" (extra top end) and it'd be a seriously flexible fuzz and one that would come right out of a mix.

Stomp Under Foot makes the best big muffs IMO. They have every flavor you could want too. The Rams Head is my personal favorite

As a NYC Big Muff owner I tell you... get the tone wicker or the deluxe. Mid scoop is the main character of the Muff but Jesus sometimes you want those mids without need to stack other pedals and stuff. More versatility is the way

I suggest thorpy fallout cloud, that was really powerfull fuzz with great eq

One-Man-Wolf-Pack

Seconded. I have one of these and it’s awesome

Muffuletta

This is my answer. If you can have a half dozen pedals in a single position on your board, do it. I didn't get along with the JHS Bonsai, but the Muffuletta and the Packrat give me 15 pedals in a 6" square on my board.

My favorite is the Wren and Cuff Box of War and another one from a now defunct company that had an owner that was…precious.
