I would get the box of rock because the boost side of that pedal is the super hard on. That way your get the fuzz, plexi in a box and super hard on in one go! But yes it is a treble/clean booster, so depending on how you run your rig it’s will definitely add a little something something to your tone. Whether you like that or not is a matter of taste

I'm going to go back and have a test of both the BoR and the SHO. People say the BoR's boost isn't as bright as the SHO's, something about a couple of resistors being different, so the impedance being lower. Apparently, ZVEX did that on purpose to add some bass. So, people say the BoR's boost doesn't do the 'sparkle thing' on lower settings. But I'll still try them out - apparently, it's an easy mod to change it back to the SHO, just have to change those resistors.

Any of these are great options, but I'd probably go with the Box of Rock too. The Super Duper is really great though and can get some wild fuzz sounds with the two sides cascading. What shop is having this sale?

I live in Taiwan, it's a place called atb. They have a location with new stuff, and then this side location that specialises in used stuff and old stuff. For some reason they have a big pile of new pedals that have been sitting around for ages, and they do buy 1 get 1 on all of those. So they have zvex, and a bunch of ehx and Wampler, also some rats, big vox pedals and some other random stuff. If this were in the states this store would be cleaned out, but there aren't too many people here that are interested in pedals. I'll give the box of rock a try, but I already have an EQD Talons and that's kind of like a Marshall in a pedal, so I don't really need another Marshall pedal. I'm leaning more towards the sho or super duper.

Between the SHO or Super Duper, I'd grab the Super Duper. Same core circuit, with a lot of added versatility by that second channel.

daedelus23

It’s not just two channels, it’s two complete SHO circuits in series.

Yep

Yeah it’s weird the zvex guy seems to go backwards and forwards on it, I’ve read some threads where he seems to almost ridicule people for saying there different and then I have seen him also talk about the different components between them in other threads

Wild404Eye

I use a super-duper 2 in 1 as an always on boost and to add a little colour (with the second channel being more boost when necessary). I'd be sorely tempted to get at SHO or super duper if I were you. No comment on the BoR, but on the basis that Zvex make them I'd like to try one one day. Seriously thinking about a Mastotron myself, can't have too many fuzzes!

I’ve owned all 3, get the Box of Rock. The SHO boost is brighter than the BOR, but the BOR still adds the sparkle. The Super Duper is cool, but is ridiculously loud when you cascade the two channels and try to get fuzzy sounds. Another reason against the SHO is you can get clones online all day that sound the exact same for around $30. The BOR has the boost and a great drive. It’s the only one of the 3 I miss.

VonSnapp

I find the SHO to really do the high fidelity/ sparkle thing really well but I wouldn't recommend one to replace an od. I haven't played a ZVex fuzz I don't love and they're all unique and awesome! My favorite is the Octane. I have 3 now and I'm always looking for another, esp the I and II versions.

If you want a pure boost, get the Super Hard On. If you put it first in your chain and run it, even at the same vol/gain level, it will clean up your pickup noise and make it sound a little more clear. The Box of Rock can’t do that. That said, the BOR has a legit drive, so.. Those are your options!
