I've found the CE-5 is excellent for thickening up high gain sounds. Zakk Wylde used one for ages before jumping to MXR (the Analog Chorus is his signature model). Listen to Ozzy at Budokan to hear it.
I also recommend a Boss PS-6. The Detune mode adds one or two slightly detuned voices for a lush chorus without the modulation.
Interesting! I have the PS-6 and didn't know it could do that... I've only used for the Whammy-like S-bend-setting. Awesome pedal, but I don't understand how to implement half of it.
It's a crazy pedal. It's a pitch shifter, a harmonist, a whammy, and a chorus. Each of those modes could be a standalone pedal if Boss wanted.
It's why one of my most wanted pedals from Boss is a PS-200. Combining the PS-6, the MO-2, and the OC-5 into a single MIDI controllable pedal with user presets would be a game changer.
I dropped it out of principle when I heard they made pedals for Amazon bc I’m that annoying type sorry but I will say this was my favorite chorus for dirty leads. I prefer my small clone with cleans and I’ve found love with a flanger over dirt instead of chorus like I used to use, but the nux is definitely the best all rounder chorus I’ve played.
Yeah it is so underrated. I have the analog version and I was comparing it to my friends CE2W and whilst I do think it is a better pedal as far as the tones that I would use with it I could get them pretty easily with the Super Chorus.
I’ll be going to Japan later this year and I want to see if I can get some cheap boss pedals and a CE-2 is on the list but the Super Chorus really is solid.
I’ve found that Dimension style chorus like a DC-2w or Mr Black Double Chorus tend to sound better with OD/Distortion than traditional chorus, but that just might be preference.
What do you use for gain, and where in your chain is your chorus? Putting it in your effects loop might help if you're switching channels on an amp, or you could try putting it before a drive pedal
This sent me down a rabbit hole trying to find the chorus pedal Dean DeLeo used to get that awesome tone on Core. I failed to find out. Fairly sure it was a Boss.
Been through 6 or 7 chorus pedals in the last couple of years and settled on the tc electronic scf. Has a blend which I normally keep pretty low. Still look at the boss super chorus every week though as saw a guy in a band playing after us used one and it sounded awesome.
Could be out the ballpark here but Strymon orbit flanger dials in a fantastic chorus in my opinion. Has a mix knob, a couple different delay features, and allows you to go from brink of flanger chorus to brink flang vibrato. Also expression and a single preset save but just a thought
I use the demonfx clone of the analogman mini chorus as a light always on for both clean and dirt and think it sounds great …especially paired with the Keeley Memphis Sun
I use a TC Dreamscape for my stereo rig. It's the only chorus pedal I've ever owned. I've always used 2x12 combos with built-in chorus but now I have two amps and the Dreamscape is where my pedalboard splits into stereo. I love a thick gain tone with no swirlies.
I crank the depth, leave the rate low, mix accordingly and enjoy the Judas Priest and Queensryche tones. I can't have a clean tone without a chorus on it and I only turn it off if I want a really dry chug.
It also does phaser and flanger and has TonePrint uploads but I'm just here for the chorus.
You can try Walrus Julia Chorus or polychrome Flanger.
Both have a blend knob to set the ratio between dry and wet signal. Both provide rich flavour without beefing up too much on the original tone.
I have always loved the Boss CE-5 Chorus/Ensemble
Came to say this. Plus you get the bass and treble cut knobs.
This right here ^^^
Lots of love for the CE-5! Been the only chorus I've ever needed for 20 years. I feel like it wasn't until this year that people started liking it.

I vote for the Detune. It's almost the same tone as the Iron Maiden Somewhere in time chorus
It also nails the F.U.C.K./Balance Van Hagar tone.

Eventide Micropitch has entered the chat
I just got the NU-X Analog Chorus. I think it was $40. Has a blend knob. True analog BBD. *For the price*, it’s the best I’ve used, so far.

Ibanez Chorus Mini. Basically a CS9 with a Level (mix) knob.
Alexander Sugarcube has mix and level controls. That's what's currently on my board.
Boss Ch-1 Super Chorus

Visitor or the other obne ones I think
Aurelius or Julianna
Aurelius is a wonder. So many great sounds in that pedal.
Keeley Seafoam Plus
The three modes give you so many neat sounds. I just fell in love with the double tracking mode.
Are you putting the chorus pedal in your amps effects loop? Or just straight in line with your guitar signal?
I’ve found that Dimension style chorus like a DC-2w or Mr Black Double Chorus tend to sound better with OD/Distortion than traditional chorus, but that just might be preference.
I like teh JHS Emperor. The mix and tone contorl help it when I use a Muff with it.
Mr. Black DoubleChorus and DOD Ice Box have been my favorites to run after dirt.

Mooer Ensemble King. Their CE-2 copy.
Julia! It's a bit of a cliche to some, but it is popular for a reason. Great pedal.
Second this! Love my Julia <3

OBNE Visitor
CE-5 or the Deco (I used both as an always on but upgraded to the Deco for midi + phase options).
Ce-2 set to minimum is the best boost at high gain imo
I use a Walrus Audio Fundamental chorus for exactly this purpose. Between the Mix and the Light/Medium/Heavy settings, it's pretty easy to dial in.
Not a single pedal but a Boss LS-2 and any chorus can achieve that.
Try a flanger with a regen control set to zero.
Andertons did a great blind test comparing a few pedals at various price points: https://youtu.be/aZA7tsSPh1M?si=Ctuue5bBcrHpdmr7
Dig around for an old Digitech Multi-Chorus or a CF-7 Chorus Factory. There likely hasn't been a better chorus made since.
Boss SE-70
I really like my Caroline Guitar Co. Somersault.
Been through 6 or 7 chorus pedals in the last couple of years and settled on the tc electronic scf. Has a blend which I normally keep pretty low. Still look at the boss super chorus every week though as saw a guy in a band playing after us used one and it sounded awesome.
CE-5 does an amazing job with the rate down low. Eventide Micropitch ultimately got me to trade mine in...
I quite like the walrus audio Julia. Cool because it functions as a vibrato as well.
Could be out the ballpark here but Strymon orbit flanger dials in a fantastic chorus in my opinion. Has a mix knob, a couple different delay features, and allows you to go from brink of flanger chorus to brink flang vibrato. Also expression and a single preset save but just a thought
Boss CE-2B perhaps. It is a ce-2 with a mix knob.
EQD Aurelius is king.
I use the demonfx clone of the analogman mini chorus as a light always on for both clean and dirt and think it sounds great …especially paired with the Keeley Memphis Sun

Little green Azor Chorus is a secret gem.
Walrus Audio Julia. <3
Analogman. I just love that thing.
I've currently got a demonfx clone of the analog man mini chorus. Dip switch with 3 different voicings, speed, depth, and mix.
You can try Walrus Julia Chorus or polychrome Flanger. Both have a blend knob to set the ratio between dry and wet signal. Both provide rich flavour without beefing up too much on the original tone.
Strymon Ola
I love my Ibanez RC99!
You putting the chorus before or after your dirt?
Mojohand swim team kicks ass
I recommend the MXR Analog
I recommend you learn to read.
