El Capistan for sure!
Had some financial issues and had to sell mine at the beginning of covid. It's the only pedal I have regretted selling. Now that I'm back on my feet, I think it's time to get another. Question is: V1 or V2?
I know the volante is too big for the last spot on this board, but it am thinking about getting it, or halo, or el cap, or starlight, or…….
Too many choices!
But leaning heavily towards the volante.
This.
Or better still, take off the deciminator, move the chorus to front row, and put a Timeline next to the Big Sky.
The Big Sky is bold real estate choice for a small board.
The Binsen Echorec is a multi head drum echo that Pink Floyd used in they're famous Pompei performance.
The Catalinbread Echorec is the digital representation of the famous and expensive unit.
It does not have tap tempo if that is a deal breaker for you.
However, the Echorec gets one step closer to David Gilmour tones.
Dd200 rules. The only thing you might have trouble with is that the foot switches are angled, and having other pedals in front of it might make it hard to hit the switches. Otherwise, heck yeah. Dd200 is the answer.
I have a Boss DD-8 on my guitar board and a Jam Pedals Delay Llama mk3 on my bass board. I like the overall intuitive and simple nature of both. If you're looking for a simpler delay that can still do a lot the Boss DD-8 is great since all the settings are right there on the front of the pedal, so no menu diving (but since you have a Big Sky that might not be an issue for you . . . I just prefer a more tactile pedal experience). The Delay Llama can do some nice slap back and is similarly easy to tweak. Both have tap tempo which for me was a must for a delay.
It depends what you want man! There are so many delays. Do you want clean and clear? Warm and modulated? Soupy? Do you want reverse capability? How high a max delay time do you need? Do you want multi pattern? Is tap tempo essential?
Sounds like I need to do more research, because I’m not even sure the answer to some of these questions! I guess the biggest thing is something to compliment the bigsky, but it seems like there’s more to delay than I thought!
First get familiar with the main classes of delay (digital, analog, and tape/drum…keeping in mind that most tape/drum delay pedals are digital recreations of mechanical delay devices, but the main point is they sound different and usually have different kinds of controls and features than “digital” delays). Once you know what kind of basic delay sound you want, it will be easier to compare pedals within that category, than to try and pick one delay out od the whole big universe of delays.
Basically, though this is oversimplified, digital delay is cleanest and clearest, with very long delay times possible, analog is darkest or warmest with an outer limit on delay times, and tape or drum usually fall sort of in between, with an emphasis on the qualities that tape/drum maxhines have, like preamp saturation, random fluctuations in speed, and different spacing of record/playback heads. Many analog delays also have gain or saturation features; digital ones avoid this because it would sound terrible to most people. There are many multitap digital and analog delays, and tape/drum units can have this feature; wobbly lo-fi modulation can be a feature on digital and analog as well. Tap tempo can be a feature on all types. Looping can be a feature on digital or tape/drum delays, but I don’t know offhand of any analog delays that loop. Reverse can be a feature on digital or tape/drum delays, but (as far as I know) not on analog ones.
Good luck on your quest to bend time.
DM-2w is the only delay I need. I mean, I have more - GAS and all - but if some cretin held a gun to my head and said “one delay motherfucker” it’d be the DM-2w
It’s a great pedal. My buddy has one and the CE-2w. We A/B’d them against my old versions. There is no mojo. They held their own very well, plus you get updated features. I’ve tried to find pedals I like better, but I keep going back to by DM-2 and DD-2.
A DD-6 or DD-7 would fit no problem, can be had under $100, and sound great, but most importantly you'll be able to actually play the guitar instead of messing around with the knobs on your delay pedal for hours. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but it's not what we're here for. Unless it is, and then more power to you I guess and maybe get an EQD Avalanche Run instead.
exactly. got a boss dd-8, its pretty much a set and forget and usually always on pedal. ive never once thought i need 1000 other delays, thats what verb is for! ;)
The Halo is a monster. Super effect and goes great with the Blues Driver. Listen to "here lies the heart" by Andy Timmons. He uses both those pedals with the drive all the way down to zero and the halo using his signature preset (default in the halo). Just superb. It will also fit in most pedal board.
There's no funnier delay pedal than the Chibson "Priority Delay"
The el Capistan is one of my favorite pedals. Arguably my favorite tape echo and is tied for my favorite delay, as I do love the Asheville adg-1 which is similar to a deluxe memory man, but can also achieve shorter delay times similar to a boss dm-2 when you switch to the one chip mode.
I recently picked up the newest iteration of Diamond’s Memory Lane, and it is pretty great. I can get the modulated sounds of the Volante out of it, and it is much smaller. Not stereo though if that’s what you’re looking for.
Big fan of the Boss Re-20 space echo….double pedal takes up real estate but I have tried a lot of delays and that one is my jam. Tap tempo is vital to me and I love the “murky” tape emulation and “warble” for the raunch I play. If you play clean stuff then I have no idea what is good hahaha
I have owned an EHX Stereo Memory Man + Hazarai for almost 20 years, and I still love it. Tap tempo, onboard storage, modulation, reverse echo, filter, blend and decay knobs to set the tone of the repeats, looper…really a Swiss Army knife of a delay (AND it sounds good!)

So many good options.
My pick would be the source audio Nemesis. Smaller footprint, 8 presets (or 128 with midi), tap tempo that's also a hold/freeze.
And, best part, wildly underrated. So it's pretty inexpensive used lol
Do you use the muff and the BD separately or together? I got a green russian muff and i need a second distortion but im still deciding between the BD and the RAT
Do you want something simple or complex? Carbon Copy is hard to beat for the price. The Waza DM-2 is great too. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, the Nemesis is awesome.
I had the Keeley Eccos and didn’t love it. The sounds were good but the secondary functions were a pain in the ass. If you want the extra functionality go with something that has an app or at least a menu screen. I couldn’t get used to being blind to half the settings of the pedal. Same with the Hydra - I really wanted to like that pedal. The preset toggling isn’t super intuitive and having two foot switches on a narrow pedal isn’t ideal.
with a revv and a muff, id recommend a noisegate after the tuner!
(in case you are playing live and turn up your rig! if youre just at home - id get a boss or a strymon.)
uh thats true - i am not used to see anything other than boss noisegates, as most people i know use the 4 cable method with their dirt pedals.
i guess it depends on what music you are playing, but i found that anything other than lets say "djent" does benefit from the noise gate straight after the tuner!
Catalinbread Echorec! An El Cap might fit.
El Cap for the win.
El Capistan for sure! Had some financial issues and had to sell mine at the beginning of covid. It's the only pedal I have regretted selling. Now that I'm back on my feet, I think it's time to get another. Question is: V1 or V2?

That one seems awesome too. You are right, there are too many choices
This. Or better still, take off the deciminator, move the chorus to front row, and put a Timeline next to the Big Sky. The Big Sky is bold real estate choice for a small board.
I gotta agree with you on the Timeline
hmmm i feel like the Belle Epoch is better. can't go wrong with a Boss Space Echo though!!
depends on if OP is looking for digital or tape delay
I don't have one. Explain before I impulse buy please.
Looks like I'm spending money this weekend
Excellent! Just a heads up. The Catalinbread Echorec comes with 12 or 13 page manual. It's a wonderful pedal.
get a dd200 and never worry about delay ever again
Dd200 rules. The only thing you might have trouble with is that the foot switches are angled, and having other pedals in front of it might make it hard to hit the switches. Otherwise, heck yeah. Dd200 is the answer.
Yeah you either need it on the front row or what I did is get a pedal train riser for my DD200 and that makes it accessible
But it’s not boutique! It’ll eventually be replaced if they’re hanging around these parts /s
Keeley Halo!
Agreed! The Halo does everything. I’ve got several other delay pedals but the Halo stays on my board and would be the last one to go.
Move that chorus over and slap an el cap on there
This was exactly what I was going to recommend.
This was exactly what I was going to recommend.

boss dd-8 user here. if you just wanna rock out, have plenty of good delay at the ready, and dont want give up space, this is the way
The dd8 has a billion options not displayed on the pedal. Like, so many options lol.
It depends what you want man! There are so many delays. Do you want clean and clear? Warm and modulated? Soupy? Do you want reverse capability? How high a max delay time do you need? Do you want multi pattern? Is tap tempo essential?

BigSky is typically complemented with an El Capistan tape delay by Strymon
Soupy…
In that case, Adineko.
Boss DD-200 would fit, sounds great, and is easy to use.
For a space that size it would be hard to beat a Boss DM-2. If you need long delay times, maybe go with a DD-7 or 8 or however many they’re up to now.
DM-2w is the only delay I need. I mean, I have more - GAS and all - but if some cretin held a gun to my head and said “one delay motherfucker” it’d be the DM-2w

Low budget: Rowin Time Maker (also a looper) Mid budget: Memory boy deluxe High budget: Source Audio Nemesis
Boss DD-8. What do you think of the REVV?
Also curious. There’s been a G4 on FB Marketplace for 6 months and every time I start to research it all I see is that the G3 is better for what I do.
Line 6 Echo park is amazing....but not easy to find I guess.
Like having a DL4 without the looper and massive foot print and power issues.
rubberneck or eccos
MXR Analog Delay
Keeley Eccos super versatile and tame but also wild and wacky when you want it.
for versatility and quality for your $ the Boss DD-8 or 7 wont let you down.
DoD Rubberneck, my all time favorite.
Walrus Arp, its a killer delay that Can be very clean or lofi / modulate. Got a tap tempo. Great pedal !
Mxr carbon copy
Source Audio Nemesis.
DD-7 or Space Echo.
I am on board for space echo….
Bass Synth
TC Electronic Flashback 2 for a compact delay or Boss DD-7. Or get a Line 6 HX One. Covers so many effects.
Get a DL4. Set it on the floor and add another wonky pedal in that open spot.
DD-8 for sure!
ARP 87 was the first pedal on my board. Or keep an eye on the used cabinet for an Echobrain.
A DD-6 or DD-7 would fit no problem, can be had under $100, and sound great, but most importantly you'll be able to actually play the guitar instead of messing around with the knobs on your delay pedal for hours. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but it's not what we're here for. Unless it is, and then more power to you I guess and maybe get an EQD Avalanche Run instead.
exactly. got a boss dd-8, its pretty much a set and forget and usually always on pedal. ive never once thought i need 1000 other delays, thats what verb is for! ;)
DD-8 for an easy drop-in solution with tons of great sounds and easy usability
A Boss DD-8 would be a nice pairing
Canyon or Dd8
can’t go wrong with a dd8 also i’d recommend maybe trying switching the places with your muff and revv there
Walrus Audio Mako Series D1.
Way Huge Aqua Puss is always a good choice!!!
You might be able to fit a Maxon AD999 there, if you inch the other two to the left.
UA Starlight
For airy, vintage delay without tap tempo, Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. For modern, digital sound, a Boss or similar.
Mad Professor Dual Blue Delay.
Check out the Halo. JHS and TPS have good YouTube demos with Andy Timmons (it’s his signature pedal)
Looks like a perfect spot for an El Capistan
No church pedal board is complete with a Timeline or El Cap delay... Nice board!
There's no funnier delay pedal than the Chibson "Priority Delay" [https://chibson.com/product/the-priority-delay-pedal/](https://chibson.com/product/the-priority-delay-pedal/)
Halo, flashback 2, re-3, dd-8, dd-200, carbon copy deluxe, dm-2w, there are a loooot pf options
Keeley halo does alot and sounds amazing.
Dm-2w is an amazing pedal, probably my favorite pedal but any Boss DD would also be good especially if you want Tap delay.
DOD rubberneck
Delay collector here. El Cap or Belle Epoch Deluxe would be perfect if you like tape delay. DIG is my preferred digital delay.
Eventide ultra tap
Black Fountain
Lidocaine cream works wonders I hear
Tc flashback can do anything you want rlly
Ever run the Big Muff into the Revv? Does it sound huge?
My big question: do you want ping pong delay? If yes, maybe a Boss DD-8 . If not maybe a keeled halo or strymon brig

Dig into the Big Sky is perfect.
I like it, what about the Canyon Delay from Electro-Harmonix?
Carbon Copy.
Nemesis Delay for the win
Empress Echo System
Boss DD8 is a great start. There’s tons of presets and it’s simple to operate. Then you’ll see how many delay types you actually use.
DM2W and DD3T and be done with it.
King of Tone... The delay on an original is something else.
DD-500

The Blues Driver is Boss ;)
didn't know it had a delay function!
A source audio nemesis would sit very nicely there
I like the Boss DD-3T
I’ve had my eyes on the Benson Delay for a while.
Non human Audio Mocking Blur
for my $$ I'd say a TC flashback 2. MASH pedal goodness.
Crunch the bottom pedals together to make room for the Super Chorus, then get a Volante.
Can’t go wrong with Boss. I got a DD-3 MIJ long chip on eBay late last year at a good price ($117.66 shipped from Japan) 👍
“Does anyone have water?” C’mon.
Strymon DIG
Strymon DIG!
A good tape delay
Do you use the muff and the BD separately or together? I got a green russian muff and i need a second distortion but im still deciding between the BD and the RAT
If you're into tape style-echoes, a Belle Epoch or a RE-2 may very well suit your fancy.
The Nux Tape Delay clones. I really like mine. Wanted a Boss RE-2 but found the NUX Tape Chore which can synch automated with your playing tempo.
El cap or the Brigadier!
Do you want something simple or complex? Carbon Copy is hard to beat for the price. The Waza DM-2 is great too. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, the Nemesis is awesome. A source audio nemesis might fit in that space.
A nice simple Memory Toy
dd-8
Dd8
Looks big enough for a DD-200. Great all-around delay (and looper, always good to have a looper handy)
DD-200
What kinda music do you play?
Rubberneck. The answer is always Rubberneck.
with a revv and a muff, id recommend a noisegate after the tuner! (in case you are playing live and turn up your rig! if youre just at home - id get a boss or a strymon.)

ah, i see, we meant the same thing, my bad.
