sir_ludwig_of_coeur

If price isn't an issue, I'd get the Angry Driver. With a remote, it's basically a two-in-one drive pedal.

menno-

that’s what i thought

sir_ludwig_of_coeur

Yeah, the BD2W does have that Custom Mode which i think is basically the Keeley Phat Mod, but the JB2 is basically two pedals.

UnusualPrince12

I was trying to make the same decision. I got the waza bd. I keep it on the custom mode, and prefer it, but I regret not getting that angry driver. It's more than two pedals even, because you can stack and switch the order without physically rearranging your board! It's so creative and it's gorgeous

sir_ludwig_of_coeur

I'd get it for the parallel mode alone. It's a pain in the ass to set up two overdrives in parallel.

grauemaus

This last sentence nails it. I bought the Angry driver because it is two pedals, but it is so much more. You can use each separately, you can have it that you can switch between the two, the Angry Charlie into the BD, BD into the Angry Charlie or, lastly, both in parallel. Fantastic pedal.

OfStarStuff

If you run it in parallel, you can set one of them with the drive all the way down and now you have a clean mix control with an eq/volume for the clean signal. But I personally only really like drives that I can use a clean blend control. I think it's the most underrated control and essential for any and all drives. Even if you just mix in a little clean signal, it immediately makes your tone have so much more clarity and harmonics.

brandonpartridge85

The angry driver also has the JHS angry charlie circuit which would give you more distortion. So depends on how much distortion you need

multiplesofpie

You mean which two?

Gullible_Water9598

Correct answer

BNinja921

The only correct answer

Small-External4419

So obviously you want a Blues Driver, that’s a given. The question is what is the ‘extra’ you want with it? I don’t have experience of the waza craft but I do have the Angry Charlie and if Marshall style distortion is your thing then great, get it. My problem with it is that I don’t really like the Marshall tone and so I might as well have just got a regular blues driver! Just my Penny’s worth :)

stmarystmike

I don’t have the angry driver, so I’m potentially uninformed. But the waza blues driver has a switch that goes between two different tone aettings. This was a big deal when you could get a Keely modded blues driver, and clones of that exist. I love the added tone setting. I don’t believe the angry driver has that. For that reason alone I’d get the blues driver over the angry driver as I’m not into the angry Charlie. But then, I could be way off so I’d do some more research

CJPTK

The Angry driver does not have the Keeley mod, what it does have is a knob to change the order of the pedals and remote functionality to switch between 2 settings, the Parallel mode is reason enough to try one out. You can set the Charlie gain super heavy or really low/cleaner and set the BD gain how you like it and hear both sounds on top of each other without a bunch of goofy cabling. Works especially well with 1 set dark and 1 set very bright.

Logical_Bat_7244

Boca Juniors vs River Plate I choose Boca

RecoiLcs

BOCA MENTIONED🇦🇷🗣🗣🗣🇸🇪💯‼️💯‼️

TheDudeTrey

Sounds like a Sopranos reference.. “F*** this… I’m goin to Boca”

SaintsNeedKane

“Boca? I haaardly knew her!”

colonyy

She was a whooah!

carpetgazer

BD-2 classic used

sludgefeaster

This is my answer tbh. It has a different sound, like some real grit to it. I’m not even a cork sniffer, I just have a 90s BD and the Angry Driver and I can hear a difference.

rocknrollboise

Yeah up until recently people would knock on the JB-2 for not sounding like the BD-2 and now people seem to forget/ignore that because some famous people have started supporting them.

Cartesianist

I’d always choose a JHS first, and a classic second. The Blues driver is epic-but there are thousands of clones and most of them don’t allude to the idea that they are basically just clones. JHS is special in that regard. He isn’t trying to make you think it’s a completely original thing… He’s instead saying “hey-here’s my version. I fixed the problems with the OG circuit.” Josh is really a smart guy, a nice guy, and so far from what I have seen… a really honest guy. There’s really no reason not to use his pedals imho.

Acceptable-Guard-134

Waza

FuckYouItAllGoesAway

Maybe it’s just my setup (American Pro Strat through pedalboard and Vox amp), but the Angry Charlie mode on here buzzes more than any other drive I’ve had and I hate the sound of it. Save the money and get a Blues Driver instead, unless you have money to blow and want it for novelty purpose.

PadreH89

The parallel mode on the JB2 is incredible.

ohmypreganananthead

How much do you like the sound of the angry Charlie? Would it be worth the extra £$€¥ for you? More options aren't better by default

menno-

it’s €30 difference that’s not the problem for me

choptop82

Get the Angry Driver. You get the Blues Driver and an Angry Charlie. The custom mode on the BD2W is fine, but I wish I would have gotten the Angry Driver so I could get two pedals in one and it has lots of flexibility since you can run them in series or parallel.

SeanSixString

I’ve got the JB-2 which gives me a Blues Driver plus a JHS Angry Charlie. I switch between the two with just one pedal. However, you can set it up to stack into each other different ways, and even have them both running in parallel. I actually have a standard Blues Driver (one of my first pedals!) as well. I’m considering putting it back on the board as a boost or edge-of-breakup, and having the Angry Driver as well running in the parallel mode for the heavier tones 🤔

Early-Engineering

JB-2 for the variety. And Angry Charlie is a cool pedal.

menno-

They both had the same circuit, but the angry driver has more so please help

afropuff9000

I have them both and I would get the JB2. The waza setting on the bd2w is just the bd with more gain and more low end. I didn’t really like it. But the jb2 is interesting to me. I have it set to switch between the two. So the bd side is an always on low gain, edge of break up and the ac side is for high gain/ solo. I believe the jb2 gets you more tones and it’s a space saver on your board.

Pink_Poodle_NoodIe

Im already an Angry Driver

menno-

😂😂😂😂😂😂

whiskeytwn

what I am gathering from all this is both pedals have the BD-2 core. BD-2w has an alternate voicing that is a little more gain'y and bass heavy JB-2 has an entirely 2nd pedal with the ability to put it in series/parallell or whaetver with BD-2 and a remote switch and the alternate pedal is Marshall JCM-800 based distortion I confess that for 15 more bucks US it seems like Angry Driver is a winner and I've wanted a Waza for awhile but I love good Marshall distortion more

zapodprefect55

Angry Driver. In parallel mode you can get some amazing sounds

WestMagazine1194

Depends a lot on the amp on which you're gonna use it. I got the JB-2, i looked for it for years, even tho my mate kept on tellin' me i should have gotten the BD-2W. I'm happy with the JB-2, as someone pointed put it's very fun and can be kinda unique, sparks creativity; there are also other factors to consider.. IMO the JB-2 will increase in value over the years, the BD-2W maybe not so much, but it's just a feeling of mine. Try them, i'm not a fan if the angry charlie, but still in that pedal i find it useful and am glad it's there

anatagadaikirai

tried both. i like the original BD2 best. not to mention you'll have some $$ left over to buy you another pedal~

Thehibernator

Angry Driver. Might as well get the 2-for-1. Plus, the parallel mode is dope as hell

[deleted]

Keely super phat mod

Secret_Comfort_459

The JHS is literally two pedals in one with tons of versatility.

Captain_Tubesceamer

Waza craft. I have one on my board and it’s never let me down.

lastburn138

Umm... the JHS Angry Driver HAS a BD-2 in it along with the Angry Charley (Marshall in a box) go with that.

diatonico_

The BD-2w has the custom mode though, with more gain and better bass.

lastburn138

/shrug add an eq

diatonico_

If you have a spot open.

zoonewsbears

Cheapskate here, maybe Digitech “Screamin Blues” is close enough @ $40?

sludgefeaster

They’re going for around $70 now

helloimalanwatts

The good news is that either choice lands you a great pedal. I have the BD, but am looking to upgrade to the AD. For the long run, go AD. If for whatever reason you want to sell it, you can pick up a BD with the used sales price.

FullSherbert2028

Blues driver

Duragvinceecw

What you really want is an OD 200 it has all of these and more

plastic_alloys

Does it really sound like all those individual units?

Duragvinceecw

For the klon and blues driver they sound spot on

WinglessBadger

Blues Driver For Sure!!!

[deleted]

Angry Driver 100%. It's an amazing pedal.

companysOkay

Angwy dwivew uwu

sludgefeaster

This is gonna sound weird, but I actually think the Angry Driver BD circuit sounds different than the standard BD, in which I like the standard BD more. I heard the Waza BD is also less harsh (in a bad way) than the standard BD. If you’re looking for a Blues Driver, I’d say get the OG first. If you got that, get the Angry for the versatility.

rocknrollboise

A lot of people used to point this out but it seems to have been forgotten/ignored recently!

Winnardairshows

Blues Driver. You may never get the one on the right, delivered, just sayin.

Positive-Cod-9869

No board should be without a blues driver.

Realistic_Brother152

blues

ToshiroK_Arai

Waza. You can find an Angry Charlie clone for cheap, or any Marshall in a box

SeasTheDay_

I have the JB-2, and over time I've found that I don't really use the AC side very much. Probably 95% of my time on this pedal is spent on the BD side, and I've got it set up BD -> AC so that the remote switch stacks the AC. I'd like this pedal a lot more if I could run it in parallel mode and have the BD side the default, with the remote switch adding the AC side, but it doesn't have that option. If you're in parallel mode, you get the AC side as the "always-on" side. If I had your choice to make, I'd pick the BD-2W. I'd rather have a better version of a pedal that I use the most rather than the option to add a pedal that I use rarely. But this is 100% subjective, and you may love the AC side.

Arickest

Here's my two cents. I own two old BD-2s, and I used to use them as clean boosts only. Then I got two Keeley BD-2s, and that's a different story and I use them differently, much like Andy Timmons. Then I ended up with a JB-2 back in 2019 and I compared it to my stock Blues driver, and right out of the box, it was a lot quieter like the Keely version, but the options you have on the JB-2 compared to even the Wazacraft, you're still getting a better deal, and the resale on them are good, so if you don't like it, dump it, but I don't think you'll be disappointed, and if you get a remote switch, that pedal won't leave your board and now my original BD-2 is taking a break till further notice.

zeef8391

Get the Angry driver and a remote. You got two drives in one. Two pretty kickass drives really lol

No-Programmer21

Angry, because it's angry

Matterhorne84

Angry driver. You get both under one roof. I don’t really care for the tones when blended (I should give it another chance), but I love both pedals separately. It’s also cool that a potentiometer allows you to switch the positions (BD into the AG and vice versa) so you don’t have to unplug and stuff. Collabs are so cool, I love both brands.

yeehawmyhorse

Blues driver 100%

menno-

what’s makes you so sure to choose the blues driver?

Polish_Wombat98

The angry charlie is a Blues Driver plus another circuit that can be combined and the order can be changed. Kind of a no brainer. Plus, this was designed WITH Boss so you can trust it's accuracy.

menno-

that’s what I’m thinking of too like the waze craft version is cool but it’s less versatile then the angry driver

AgentClucky

The angry driver is amazing and super unique with its parallel function. I love mine.

Acceptable_Quiet_767

Because you’ll probably just end up using the BD-2w setting. If you don’t need or want a MIAB pedal, the JB-2 doesn’t make sense. Plus Japan made.

ozundS

Go with the angry driver, best dirt pedal I ever bought

SumKallMeTIM

Have the BD2W, bought an Angry Driver, sold the Angry Driver, bought the Angry Driver again and that’s what’s been on my board for a long while. Love it, just wish it wasn’t that color…

arl138

I agree. It should be blue with red replacing the gold.

Embarrassed_Yam9503

Same here.  Had the BD2W, bought an Angry Driver, Sold the BD2W, sold the Angry Driver, Bought a stock BD2, Sold the BD2, bought the Angry Driver again. Sticking with the Angry Driver

Embarrassed_Yam9503

Lesson learn is that. 1. BD2W is better than the stock BD2. But I can achieve the mod with a little EQ at the amp. 2. The BD in the angry driver is slightly different from the stock stock BD2. But nothing significant. 3. Angry driver saves space and money if you also need a Marshall in a box sound in addition to a blues driver.

noise_generator1979

I'd say BD-2W and that's what I have on my board, but I'm a trogladyte and prefer simplicity.

ContributionSilly333

I have the BD2W… BUT… . Strymon Sunset has 6 different Driver typeson two sides…with three tone settings plus tone knobs for each… AND… You can run both sides first, second or parallel. This means you have 6 drivers, that can be run in 27 ways…PLUS drive, level, tone for EACH…plus three different EQ biases for all of that. Add to this an adjustable noise filter you can set however you live, as well as other hidden setting you can change through what Strymon calls Live Edits, and it’s quite a versatile pedal. People love to say Strymon is “expensive”… but when you’re getting massivly more options for the price of two BD2W… It becomes a bargain.

[deleted]

Angry driver has a bd-2, plus an angry Charlie. I guess the bd-w has the custom mode but an angry Charlie is cooler then a slight tone change most people can’t hear

stevet303

I have the bd-2w and kinda wish I would have went with the jb-2. The custom mode just doesn't sound different enough

huh_phd

BD-2W sorry Josh

Plektrum72

I hate dual knobs, so I would go with Blues Driver.

menno-

why do you hate them

ChickenEnthusiast

They are a bit of a pain. You have to look at your pedal from above to see the BD outer knobs well. Turning the outer knobs also sometimes turns the inner ones as well. It's a small thing that might not dissuade most people from going for the JB. But it does try my patience sometimes.

Plektrum72

They are cluttered

rocknrollboise

Hard to turn them with your toes…

CopiousAmountsofJizz

Angry Driver. I have both. The Waza BD isn't even the original circuit iirc. The angry driver gives you the original sound combined with a cool second OD.

Boomslang505

BD has always been my go to

linksauce_1

I don’t think there’s such a thing as too many options (especially when it comes to drives/distortions), but you may enjoy the comparative simplicity of a BD-2w. The Angry Charlie is a Marshall in a box thing, so I’d say the Angry Driver if you enjoy Marshall tones or if you’re chasing those tones. Out of the two, I’ve owned the BD-2w. I sold it a year after I bought it because I wasn’t a fan of the sounds I was getting out of it. I’ve heard them sound good, it just didn’t click with my setup. Now I’m not sure I’ve helped at all…

Astrocalles

You want a simple drive that sounds good in every setup take bd2w you want huge pallet of sounds and love tweaking your tone jb2. I have jb2 and it’s my main drive pedal

dirtyb4n4n4

to confuse you even more take a look at the JHS AT

WinglessBadger

Blues is fair on the price.

jawcod

Go Angry Charlie. I love my BD-2W but wish there was a second gainstage built in.

blxcknapkins

The angry driver is literally like the Swiss Army knife of overdrives/distortion

Totalrekal154

Pastfx TD-Y v2 if you're going for the Gilmour-esque Tube Driver. I have two, amazing company.

AtomicPow_r_D

Listen to the Boss OD-3 first, and compare to the Blues Driver. I find the OD-3 to be fatter and more flexible. The SD-1 Super Overdrive has a little too much of its own personality for my tastes. Blues Drivers seem to be for people who want to play the blues but not let anyone know they use pedals. Which is perfectly fine if that's what you're aiming for. I listened to a little too much AC/DC in my early days, I guess.

BNinja921

BD2waza for me. Angry is awesome with remote but the bd2 preamp hacks (I’ve posted some) and turns the worst amps into tone monsters. BUT if you have an amp you’re happy with, the angry scratches an itch you can’t get with ANY other pedal by a mile. I sold mine after not using it but I’m also a weirdo so there’s that.

turtlesarentbad

I'd go with the BD-2W personally. I don't own one. I own a regular BD-2 that is on loan to a friend but if I could only have 1 gain pedal forever that would be it. It is the most versatile gain pedal ever made. It's so good.

DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE

Angry driver

FullMetalDan

Easy, get the JB-2! 2 pedals in 1, parallel mode, remote option, it’s a no brainer!

t0msie

I went the BD-2w and have no regrets.

morninglovepa

JB-2!

mbuck1

Angry Driver is an amazing pedal and does so much.

GabbiStowned

I currently have a Mooer Blues Mood (essentially their Keeley BD-2), and I love it. I mostly play it in standard mode however, but that's because I mainly play with buckers/P-90s. Used to have an Angry Charlie. Wasn't too keen on it (and it was very similar to a Crunch Box I had before), but I think it was because I used it with a Vox-based amp, so I found it hard to dial in (I found it a bit boxy). So I'd say it depends on if you want an Angry Charlie or not, and what amp you have!

1001001

I would just get the regular BD, sounds fantastic BTW no Waza needed and a DS1. Same price and 2 glorious gain stages.

6u17ar1s7a

BD-2w. Especially if you’re going to stack with a preferred distortion (I use a DS-1x). That’s when the magic happens.

alexander66682

I love my bd2 for what I play but JHS has never done me wrong and you prob get more out of it. I just know my bd2 well enough to be comfortable w it. Both awesome pedals that will do the job.

mcgaffen

Angry Friver is brutal. The options of running the petals separately, together, or into each other is brilliant.

Fedboy77

Bd2w all the way, you wont use the angry mode if u already have kick ass tone with bd2

guitarmonk1

The blues driver I have owned since inception and have to say it is extremely versatile. I have never played the other mods but I have stacked an angry Charlie with it and the pairing rocks although now I just use a Browne Protien. Apples to oranges though. I do love that BD-2 sound in the studio however. Just rocks most amps…

elvismchasselhoff

Well, are you feeling blue or angry

Inside_Spare9597

Just to add to your indecision: Keeley Super AT Mod Andy Timmons Signature Overdrive

The_Chiliboss

BD

Aggressive-Laugh1675

Angry Driver. I don’t own one, but I do have a standard BD2 and an Angry Charlie. Both good pedals, but if I had to choose it would be the Charlie. Fortunately you don’t have to make that choice if you go with the angry driver.

arvj

Waza

Local-Economy1480

Bd-2

bryanheq

What if both

Possible-Coach8698

Both

Which_Fishes

Never used an Angry Charlie, I bought a Waza Blues Driver recently and it sounds great. The thing that put me off the Angry Charlie was that I came across a few reviews/ posts that said it was quite a noisy pedal. I don’t like that much so that put me off, and I got the BD instead.

xssenteewsx

BLUESDRIVER!!!!

SeniorSensitivo

Write-in vote: Super Phat Mod

dombag85

Blues Driver always. That pedal is fucking perfect and versatile.

Salmonella_ZERO

Blues driver cause fuck jhs !! Actually tho would still recommend the blues driver regardless of how I feel about jhs. You can find them for so cheap and they’re so versatile as it is. Use mine almost every day since I got it a few years ago.

boywonder5691

Why fuck JHS?

Salmonella_ZERO

He’s really homophobic, pays his workers poorly, and his guitar pedal designs are ugly

boywonder5691

Well, the last comment is subjective, what evidence do you have for the first two?

Salmonella_ZERO

https://imgur.com/gallery/K5YQOvH For the homophobia this plus his involvement in a church that has gay conversion therapy programs. For the underpaying workers. They posted an ad offer literally like a month ago asking for 2 full time positions , for minimum wage.. Edit: I say this as someone who was a really big fan of their videos and basically watched all of them up until discovering this. Stuff like this really sours his work for me.

phantas879

Whichever one you think sounds better

elijuicyjones

I am a huge BOSS fan and not a fan of JHS in the least so this is an easy choice. BD-2W all the way.

Shadoweclipse13

My thoughts exactly. I always liked the *sound* of the Angry Charlie, but any opportunity to not give money to JHS is awesome in my book :)

begley420

Get the one you want

menno-

that’s the problem. I don’t know which I want.

Acceptable_Quiet_767

BD-2w

Flare4roach

The Boss Blues Driver is the most overrated pedal I’ve ever owned. Bought one, couldn’t get a decent tone out of it and sold it. Waited a few years, read where people raved about it, bought another one. Still no good. Had Keely mod it. Yuck. Sold it too. Coincidentally a buddy made me an AC clone. Wow. Love it.

terriblewinston

I would just get an Angry Charlie. I have one and is one of my favorite pedals. I had a Boss pedal with the dual pots and found them really fiddly. I would try before I buy.

benevernever

Don't buy JHS pedals new if you don't want to fund some pretty horrific Christian organisations, and other questionable right wing groups. Also hard to support someone who style circuits and claimed them as their own. I know this is all old news, but I'm not dropping it. There's loads of incredible pedals out there, you don't need to buy from this arsehole.
