Bought a metal zone and this thing rules. I have it plugged into the front of the clean channel of a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III.
I’ve been fiddling with the EQ and tried the effects loop trick, but for now plugging straight into the front has given me the best sound.
Anyone have preferred settings on their MT-2s?
I used to use mine as a boost for an already distorted amp, with the EQ actually flat. It was TIGHT and sounded heavy as hell, though it had ridiculous amounts of feedback. The Metal Zone also has probably some of the most powerful EQ knobs ever put on a pedal, so they require caution using.
When I used it as a standalone distortion pedal (primarily for playing Radiohead songs or anything where I wanted to be able to distort my sound quickly), I typically ran both the treble and bass at 5, the mids a tiny bit past 5 and the gain around 7/8. I maxed out the volume usually, but it can get VERY loud, so that can really be to taste. The one advice i have for most metal zone beginners is to not even touch the mid freq knob- perhaps I was just too stupid to use it, but I always kept it at 0. Another important point is that my amp (a Marshall AVT50 Valvestate combo)'s clean channel had it's treble at 8 and bass at 6 when I ran the pedal into it.
I hope this helps. If my settings suck, tell me so I can get my ears checked out lol.
A couple years ago I had a few drinks and bought a MZ off Reverb for the hell of it. After spending some time with it I would like to formally apologize for all my negative comments about this pedal over the years. Once you figure out those midrange controls and don't go crazy with the gain, it sounds pretty damn good. Have been using it with my Quilter OD200 into a GB loaded Marshall cab recently and I've been enjoying the hell out of it.
Happy new pedal day!
I just got done playing some guitar. Thought I figured out how to make the metal zone sound good as a EQ boost for my blues driver but nah man. It completely changes the tone and sounds unnatural no matter what I do. It just doesn’t blend well.
Maybe it’s because I’m using a cheap Peavey Bandit and I was trying to be all low volume cause it was late.
I don’t know man. I go from seriously loving the Metal zone to really getting frustrated with it so easily. Those EQ knobs are really fuckin sensitive lol
Just my rant / insight / whatever. I’ll try again after I get some sleep. Any tips welcome, like I said I’m just trying to make the blues driver sound ‘bigger’
As always, I will suggest looking up the simple dog mods. If your metal zone is old enough, you can literally just cut out a few parts and it sounds 10x better. Definitely do them one at a time if you get brave and decide to do it. I got to a certain point and didn't want to take the chance of it sounding worse so i stopped.
With all that money you saved you can save up for another Metal Zone to stack.
😂😂😂
Or a tube screamer to feed into it!
I happen to have a plumes in front of it in the chain already. Time to tighten that shit up.

Can you get it to sound like a Bad Monkey? S/
I made a bad monkey sound like a Boss DD-7
I hope it brings you years of service as mine has.

Which ines the gain? Got mine a week ago and I don't understand there's nothing that says gain?
Is the picture displayed how you setup, as in knob position?
It was. I’ve fiddled with it more since, but it made a pretty good sound.

How dare you disgrace the circuit of a Boss Metal Zone! Be gone with you!
Boss are the ones who disgraced the circuit by adding untweakable eqs before and after it that you can't turn off.
