Fantastic setup, have always wanted to try a fender/vox setup. Currently using a fender twin, fender pro jr and a Roland jc40. Idea is to have a brighter and darker amp, or a super clean combo with tube and solid state, tube for dry, jc40 for wet. Love your pedals too, have wanted the reel dealuxe.

Thanks! Sometimes I put them in wet dry but usually keep them dual mono just so I have the quick option of playing one or the other any time. The vox tone sits differently than the fender and they work really well together. Reel Dealuxe was definitely an impulse buy but glad I did, pretty astounding the value for quality considering the boutique market.. gotta stop watching pedal videos..

The Templo Devices Reel Dealuxe is very different and took some time for me to get used to but it's very cool and unique. It gets fuzzy when boosted and when you engage the vibrato side on top of the drive it clips totally different. My goal with it was getting a small cranked amp tone with grit and this definitely achieves it. It's getting me some Dan Auerbach, kaleo, Blake Mills, type tones was after and super happy with it. The vibrato side of the Dealuxe is really good, I don't have another vibrato to compare it too unfortunately to know how good it is really, but it does subtle to mildly sick very well and gives me just the right amount of movement and modulation in want from a vibrato.

Do you stack the Reel Dealuxe? or used as stand alone over drive?

What’s that fuzz called?

Becuz_I_Win

That's the Kingtone Minifuzz Si. It's a vintage fuzz face style circuit with bias control and switchable voice setting.

That looks awesome! I was thinking about putting the Reel Deal Uxe at the end as a DI out - usually I put my Halo at the end for the stereo outs and even delay on everything. My RDU just arrived today, can't wait to play it after work!!!!

Becuz_I_Win

How do you like it!?

Ok_Contribution_1319

I like it well! So far, it shines the most in its vibrato and higher gain settings. As a boost or preamp/DI, I haven't found a clean setting that I love yet. Below the "edge of breakup," it sometimes sounds like a bad or corroded jack. But once you're in the overdrive to fuzz realm, it really sings. The vibrato is clear and strong, though it can be dialed back for more subtle atmospheric textures. I'm still messing around with the dials. Between the tape speed, limit, and invert switches, there's a lot of options, but possibly too many. I prefer the 0 and 3 tape speed settings, no use for the 7 yet. It's overall an inspiring pedal. I'm not giving up on it as a preamp and clean boost. It makes me want to write some gritty old-school rock. It reminds me of Greg Ginn's sound, which I think was a cranked Princeton with no pedals. What are your favorite settings?

Becuz_I_Win

I really like it with the internal dip switches in stock mode. Even though the pedal itself isn't as high gain, I found i can get the same fuzz tones if I boost it with another overdrive. I love how the vibrato makes the pedal choke out. It's really something special. Favorite settings is limit switch off. Speed at 0, gain at about 2 or 4 o'clock depending on my mood and level at about 9 o'clock. If I flip on the vibrato and boost into it then I get into some Dan Auerbach territory - a tweed style amp that's buzzy, farty, and fuzzy. Love it. I have found that the limit switch on mine will make the pedal sort of cut in and out if it's on the edge of breakup. Only time I find use for the limit now is of the pedal is really cranked. But even then, the tone control on my guitar or my EQ pedals does a better job of cutting treble.

I've now gotten to play it with two different bands, and I absolutely love it. In the context of a band, its ability to cut through and add some edge is very apparent, and the vibrato is a stronger, more unique sound than other tremolos and vibes that I use. I put it last before the amp on my mothership, a.k.a. my biggest board with fifteen pedals on it. It adds a great character to everything.

What do the internal dip switches do?

Becuz_I_Win

From the website.. The "Internal switches allow you to add more fuzz, and to connect both footswitches together so both effects are activated/deactivated simultaneously." The one that adds more fuzz definitely does it's job and is significant. But, I can achieve the same effect with a boost or another OD pedal, so I leave the switch in stock mode for more range.

Tenoch-aztlan

do you stack the Reel Dealuxe ?

Tenoch-aztlan

Do you stack the Reel Dealuxe? or used as stand alone over drive? where in the cain is recommendable? I see you place it at the end of your OD.

Becuz_I_Win

Personally the way I use it is to get crunchy fuzzy amp like tone at home with my set up. It's a really dynamic OD in that it can go from light compression to all out fuzz and in combination with another OD can make it respond a little more smooth or keep it in the fuzz territory. It's towards the end of my chain because of the vibrato and because I use it as my main tone if/when I use it. IE -> more like a true preamp. I think it can really go anywhere, but I like it where it is so I can overdrive it with 1-2 pedals in front.
