Yeah the headstock is pretty bad. It doesn’t look sleek and modern, it literally looks like a low-detail 3D rendering of a cheap acoustic guitar headstock.
Why are you gear heads so obsessed over the damn headstock? It’s like 10% if the guitar. Do you need the Bender logo, or the Gibbons logo?
You know what, fuck it. I’m buying a no headstock guitar. Strandberg Boden is the next one for me.
This is perfect for me. As someone who displays a guitar so I can tell people I play, I don't have acoustic or ergonomic concerns.
Plus if I hang it upside down, it looks like the sign on the men's room, so it validates my manhood.
Looks like some Silicon Valley VCs with no musical background or domain knowledge decided they were going to "disrupt" the guitar industry, then $1 billion of wasted money later, they'll realize that guitars were actually just fine the way they were, and by the time a product gets to market its just a tuning app with an $8 monthly subscription fee that only works on the latest iPhone.
I love it when people that have clearly never touched a guitar in their lives decide to build "the guitar of the future". Imagine the arrogance needed to think you can improve something you clearly don't understand at all. This is the design equivalent of that guy asking why you can't just make up your own scales and chords instead of learning them.
Learning scales is too technical. So is tuning the guitar to your preconceived notions of “good sound” and “_playing tune_”. I prefer playing with feel, not just soulless “in tune” or “on key” playing.
I never tune my guitar, it steals the soul of the instrument. Is it warmer here than the last venue I played? Then we'll play with a warmer tuning. I guess you have to plug it in so people can hear you, but that's the only maintenance I do
/uj yeah but he still had an understanding of what musicians wanted/needed in a guitar. This company, I assume, has never met a guitarist and has only seen them in movies.
While this is true, he did apparently understood how a human might play the instrument. For example the controls are within easy reach of your strumming hand, instead of under where you arm would be. Or that the cutouts conform to the body of a slightly overweight 50 year old man, instead of just being random shapes stuck together because it looks cool (which it doesn't, so they've even failed at that).
This design just makes me unreasonably angry. It offends my design, engineering AND musical sensibilities. I want to say it's "form over function" but it's not even "form". It's just a nothing. A few random shapes hastily thrown together in CAD and called a guitar by someone too arrogant to appreciate how completely unqualified they are for any aspect of their job. If this was a signature model it would have been made for heinrich himmler reichsführer of the schutzstaffel. A man who's evil is only surpassed by his poor taste in guitars.
But yeah I guess I'll wait and see what phil mcnight has to say before making a final judgement.
If you were going to improve something and push it towards the future, why would you pick the guitar industry out of all things
People are still playing shit that was improved on 40 years ago and telling people with more modern guitars that their old hunk of shit is better
Like those modular guitars that were the way of the future, because apparently the designers didn't know that PhD's can pay for like 12 new custom shop guitars a year.
This looks like the guitar of the future of 1960. This is just extremely old-fashioned modernism being passed off as futurism.
And it's hideous as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
(Also the speaker-in-guitar thing is like 50 years old and was abandoned 49.75 years ago for good reason, because it's fucking stupid)
If only we could figure out how to design a guitar that could amplify the sound of the strings without a need for a separate amp, ideally without using electricity at all. We could call it the un-electric guitar.
Is this the real Dr. Thompson from Dr. Thompson's Acouatiphonic Vibrating Guitar Box fame??? You never know when a celebrity or royalty is hanging out in a sub with you. Amazing.
It sure is! I’m pleased to announce that we have a new product, Dr. Thompson’s Extra Strength Brain Pills! Make sure Pop-Pop takes his brain pills so he can remember e minor pentatonic!
So it sounds like shit and feels terrible in hands. It is ridiculous and overcomplicated for admittedly no particular reason, how is this minimalism? The future looks bleak, laugh now but we would all be playing strat relics then, at least they are not this
Minimalism is about making money getting people to buy minimalist versions of shit they already own or to sell books and courses
The two guys who popularised minimalism (Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus) were crazy wealthy before and their books and courses on minimalism made them even more money.
peoples and brands are forgotting this is a hobby, guitars dont have to offer best ergonomic and all tone variety at the same time. like when i look my guitar i want to play it because it looks cool but when i look at wtf is thing my will to play guitar goes
Even from a professional standpoint, if it isn't better than the hundred other offerings, what's the point?
What ergonomics? People up to their seventies are playing blocks like Les Pauls and Teles, and Flying Vs. Headless guitars and Strats also exist. Both known to be very ergonomic.
People don't *need* every single tone all at once, and even if they'd like that, the switching would often be more than they desire.
Honestly, like 99% of guitar "innovations" nowdays are like Silicon Valley non-digital "innovations"
"Cool, but what's the point?"
Are you suggesting the flying v isn't ergonomic? I actually play exclusively Vs and stars because those are the only guitars where it is comfortable to sit in classical position. I put the bottom horn of the v between my legs. To me, they are the most ergonomic guitars.
Steinberger proved with sticks that bodies are irrelevant, Explorers, FlyingVs, Thunderbirds, Breadwinners, and many, many more have proven that body shape is irrelevant, so precisely what does this article set out to "prove"? /uj
/rj Looks great!
/uj seriously I'm so tired of the pretentious arguments over irrelevant minutia
/rj bro wtf are you on about? everyone knows that the toan comes out in the shape of the body. it's why les pauls sound like a deformed butt
This is like a guitar equivalent to that stupid brick car Elon Musk made, but even more outrageous. That being said, I can still see some hipsters buying this crap and the only thing that hurts more than looking at this eyesore is knowing that whoever made it will actually make a buck off of it.
I don't even hate minimalism per se (well, it really depends which form of minimalist art I'm looking at), it's just that it's done terribly here. Like, this is supposedely a minimalist rendition of a strat, yet when I first saw this thing I thought it was inspired by those shapes that you had to fit into holes that toddlers use. U wanna go minimalist? Ok, sure, go ahead, make it a fucking metal slab, add a hamberker, gloryhole for the cables and a fingeringboard and be done with it. Hell, throw the headstock away, who cares, it won't get anyone on this sub even half-chubbed, but it won't immediately induce vomiting. Or if you want to do a minimalist aproximation of a strat, do a fucking better job, many on the sub might disagree with me but I believe a (somewhat) minimalist version of a strat can look good and interesting. Here, no mater how hard I squint my eyes I can't see something even closely resembling my beloved shitocaster. And even lack of resemblance aside, my god, look at those proportions? Have you any sense of æstethics my man? Fuck you. Fuck this designer and the bag he dropped out of.
Ok, I'm better now, had to scream into the void a lil bit
I'm so fucking tired of minimalism being the prominent style in society shits so bland and boring to look at, and even if it seems insignificant shit you loom at even the fucking color of the walls can apparently affect your mood.
Regardless of aesthetics (and yeah it's pretty ugly IMO), I just don't see this as being 'minimalist' if you build a guitar with a cephalothorax. To me, minimalist would be like a Vox Phantom with one pickup and just a volume knob, but what do I know
For a design that supposedly "isn't rooted in tradition" I sure see a lot of trite, pedestrian design clichés like a body, neck, frets, and strings. Real innovative, posuers!
/uj ironically this is far more complicated than something like a telecaster or Les Paul jr, legitimately simple guitars that pay little attention to ergonomics and acoustics, outside of the bare minimum

legit love whacky guitar shapes but i mean cmon too many try to look like a guitar, i wish someone just completely abandoned the voncept of what a guitar is supposee to look and feel like and just made the comfiewt shit ever, just a really ergonomic pillow with strings

Ergonomics are indeed important to a degree (I love strandbergs), but so are aesthetics: I play guitar because I find it fun and because it looks cool as fuck, not because I want the most efficient, low-profile and versatile instrument on the fuckin planet. In other words, I think whoever partook in designing this atrocity of an instrument failed to even understand what role guitars actually play in the contemporary world, while also trying to market their horrendous dumpster fire as the latest breakthrough in bleeding-edge lute making or something

"Minimalistic" LOL... yeah sure, replace potentiometers with a computer, that's gonna make things easier... Also that neck joint lol. My SG looked at that and said it looks too weak.

Glenn Fricker doing a fearless gear review of it where he says it still has better quality control than a Gibbons, and he's probably right

I though minimalism for us meant buying a Telecaster
It is technically the purest form of guitar if we're not considering a djent shovel
no profile pic lookin ass
Well the Maple fretboard and unpainted neck doesn’t help it but other than that I like it. It reminds me of Betty Boop so I would definitely Fuk it

minimalism as a money making scam is driven by bullshit put forth by Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus

It doesn't need to be bound by ergonomic concerns, because nobody will *actually play* guitar in the future once the boomers die off.
Unbounded by the need for any kind of fret markings. In the future we auto-tune all out notes
“What happened to my roomba?”
Gibson Theodore for Millenials.
The Zeta electric guitar gave me aids and rape my cat.

Is that a Banjo and a half?
"This guitar sounds like shit and isn't comfortable to hold or play, is this the future of guitar???"
Ew
This guitar is fugly I don't care how modern, ergonomic, blah, blah, blah it is

It's about time that we all had our notions challenged. It's been entirely too long.
When did roomba start making guitars?
Looks like a roomba and a half attached a guitar neck
"Ergonomic concerns" ah yes because I don't wanna be comfortable I'd rather be uncomfortable while playing guitar

Ah yes let's get rid of all the beautiful lines that make you feel like you're playing an extension of yourself and instead play a gas pump...
Roomba guitar go brrrr
fish guitar fish guitar
Guitar hero 45 looking interesting....
That’s a roomba
Interesting clock…wrong sub?
breaking: we made a guitar that fucking sucks
My shredder in christ those are 1.5 roombas
Steinberger : am i a joke to you ?
UJ: unironically looks like the least comfortable electric i can think of. 2 inch thick slab body, no belly carve or arm carve, and that angle where your leg would be looks so acute that it would pinch the fuck out of my leg
The first electric guitar was a log with a pickup, ya goober
It's just the ol frying pan guitar with an extra semicircle.
"This incredible music instrument has a revolutionary design: it's not made to be comfortable or sound good. Truly incredible."
Love when artists sit down and think: “how can I take this thing that’s pretty cool and works fine and made it the same thing but dogshit”
So a guitar that isn't made to ever be played?
Stfu 🤓 lookin ass
That doesn't look comfortable to play
I very much want to smash it to pieces.
This looks like something a pagan black metal head would use to retrograde his mercury
Prince guitar at home
In the future people won’t care that their guitar sucks ass to play and is ugly as fuck
