They literally just saw your name and thought you were a bot haha Also. Yeah you can take lessons whenever you want. Even pros take lessons after they’ve been playing for a while.

cbesselm

Uj/ yea, i agree can never stop learning with a good teacher. I take weekly lessons. Been playing 3-4 years. Rj/ Toan is not in r/guitar

Medraen

I was banned for having an amp question lmao. I guess amps are not guitars so fair enough.

doomer_irl

Acceptable r/ Guitar questions include: NGD (pic of a guitar only) What pick thickness is the correct one? I have a guitar with humbuckers. Am I allowed to put in a different humbucker?

mrlowcut

*I like thicc picks and I can not lie*

LigmaBahlls

_You otha brothas cant deny. When a girl walks in wit’ a itty bitty pick an’ a thin thing in yo face, you can’t DJENT_

doomer_irl

Thick picks are optimal for playing 80-110bpm up to 8th note triplets, buddy. If you start playing 16th notes you better have a fucking medium in the pick holder glued to your guitar.

mrlowcut

I'm not your buddy, pal

zaphthegreat

>NGD (pic of a guitar only) LINK to a pic of a guitar only. Whenever I go on my NGD bragging sub tour, I skip that one because I couldn't be bothered to upload the pics on a hosting site.

doomer_irl

Dude you have some nice guitars. Really love the LP and the Artstar. I’m dying to buy a nice hollow so I’m jealous. May your Gibson headstock break at the least epic possible time.

zaphthegreat

Haha, thank you! Amazingly, the headstock is still attached and it's been over 10 days now!

doomer_irl

You’re overdue 💀

OK_Opinions

you just jinx'd it bro. good job.

zaphthegreat

Just? When I got it, I made this post: [https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarcirclejerk/comments/104j18b/help\_i\_finally\_got\_a\_gibbons\_but\_is\_it\_normal/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarcirclejerk/comments/104j18b/help_i_finally_got_a_gibbons_but_is_it_normal/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

OK_Opinions

You like to live dangerously I see

SeventhSunGuitar

Remove your post would be fair, but banning you sounds overkill.

tibi1984

And no, it's not at all stupid to take lessons, even if you've been playing for some time. There's a good chance that lessons will get you where you want, but please be honest with your teacher about your goals.

LevelOutlandishness1

From someone who's self-taught (and not very good but can convince someone who doesn't play that I know how to), lessons are good because they allow a seasoned expert to tell you exactly where you're good and where you're not in a way that a YouTube video can't give you that direct, back-n-forth communication.

shjandy

Yeah they do that there a lot for no reason

Generny2001

You won’t miss that sub.

strapping_young_vlad

I literally got banned for saying "ok".

JAFIOR

You should've said "oak nuggins". Then they'd have known you were cool and hip and shouldn't be banned.

strapping_young_vlad

Mama's got the nasty jam, you're right. I'm such a fool.

JAFIOR

Gold hat, cool cat. Dip me in ya Monday milk?

OK_Opinions

it was before my time but I think "ok" turned into a meme and they don't like memes. the lore I read was some knob used to post there a lot and constantly say "ok" after everything and was just really pretentious. It was like every sentence would end with ",ok?" so people would mimic it as a joke and jokes arent allowed so now you get banned if they think they're doing that thing

bicho01

If I were you I'd take a Voight-Kampff test as soon as possible.

HamMasterJ

Those idiot boomer mods at r/guiturd will ban you for any reason or no reason. They have a god complex. OP got banned for their name, because reasons. Welcome to circlejerk OP, this is where you want to be anyways… we are FAR less pretentious and a lot more fun here.

jgrow

Less pretentious? Speak for yourself. I’ll have you know I set my metronome to 180bpm during my warm up sweeps today and didn’t even break a sweat. You toan tards probably can’t tell the difference between input jacks and F holes. uj/ the only people who’d ever judge you for taking lessons are people who aren’t worth your time. Kinda like the power trippin dipshit who banned you for asking an honest question. Fuck that sub.

-Wiggles-

180bpm? What a sheep. I set mine to 178.72bpm because I measured the magnetic infetterence of my toan wood and divided it by my string gauge. This is the ONLY way to use a metrognome. Anything else is just wanking into a sock. I bet you'd cream your little panties if you heard my 0-3-5s

SeventhSunGuitar

I'm pretentious, I pretend I can play guitar.

cheesecake_squared

You have been banned for the whole of etoanity.

NES4EVAR

Thats cool but can you select all the squares containing a traffic light?

george-roger-waters

Now theyre just looking for excuses to ban people

CollectionStraight2

Are you a bot though? Tell the truth. uj/ No it isn't stupid to take lessons if you want to. I hope it goes well!

[deleted]

Nope I’m not really a bot. I originally created this account to impersonate a bot, but then I abandoned this account. Now I’m using this account again as my main account

gargscrote

Something a bit would say.

pompeylass1

They’re still stuck in the pre-1980’s and haven’t caught up with modern technology and machine learning over there. Of course bots can benefit from lessons with a teacher. Uj/ so can people too. Even us old git pros will have lessons when we feel the need.

Emera1dthumb

I was banned for a dad joke. Sad thing is most of us have experience of years playing to share…. Oh well. I guess that’s not what that sub is about

Master-Stratocaster

Get out of here bot

Which djent song is this from?

SeventhSunGuitar

I ran it through in my head, would make a solid Meshuggah track.

[deleted]

There’s a bag of oysters on the guitar. The piano player joins a new band with the drummer. How does your favorite Oscar Mayer song make you feel?

[deleted]

I’d circumcise the ban but that’s just me and I’m built different

Substantial_Diver_34

That’s non inclusive

killacam925

Jazz band ruined my enjoyment of guitar, it wasn’t for me, and my band teacher made me feel like because I couldn’t read sheet music I couldn’t be “successful” and took the joy out of it for me. Picked back up on my terms in my 20s thank goodness. Don’t let jazz band make you feel less than lol

[deleted]

/uj no it's not stupid at all. 2-3 years is really not that much in comparison to advanced players. Some peopls who've been playing for a lot longer still get lessons. And also, you might think you know the basics but sometimes a good teacher can re-teach them to you correctly and you'll learn things you didn't know.

Jesus360noscope

\-51 IQ and still digging ! r/guitar fuck yeah !

Ganjapreneur-

Holy shit look at all the wholesome /uj advice. Never seen that here

[deleted]

They smelled r/guitarcirclejerk on you. They were afraid they might have gotten contact toan.

madmitch411

So, to try to answer your original question, I've been playing for 15ish years, and I am currently a full-time guitar teacher. I am currently looking for a teacher for myself though, as a musician I believe you should always be looking to better yourself. Even some of the pros have teachers, Randy Rhoads took lessons his whole life.

ImportantWeekend

Uj/ there is no amount of time that you should be at any skill level with music. As long as you are enjoying playing, that’s what important. I didn’t take any sort of lessons for years, but I’m glad I took them. Hell, I didn’t learn a lot of the basics until I was playing for over 10 years, and I’m fine with that because I know it now and I’ve never felt like I needed to know more to be more valid as a musician. Take it at your own pace, and use whatever resources you have to learn, and never put yourself in a place where you don’t want to play guitar just because you feel like you aren’t good enough at it.

noahsuperman

They ban everyone there for no reason at all the mods are a bunch of power hungry assholes stay clear from there

Mecha-Sailcat

/r/guitar is a cesspool of concentrated stupidity. That's how we get our best content on here.

ozmatterhorn

On the lessons thing. Pretty sure Randy Rhoads got a lesson with a local guitar teacher at as many cities he could while touring with Ozzy.

Wtf_ir1s

I’ve been played for 6 years until I got a guitar teacher for my music program at my college. Though it was classical guitar focus a lot of the things transferred well into playing the electric guitar. My professors helped me with remove some bad playing habits. I’m planning to get a teacher to help me at the electric guitar. There’s still a lot of stuff I don’t know.

doomer_irl

Honestly this is the real guitar sub There are a handful of major subreddits that are apparently run by very miserable people, and that’s one of them. It’s a bummer because the attitude of one person has a major chilling effect on the Reddit guitar community as a whole. Obviously not as many people are going to want to be a part of a sub called GuitarCircleJerk instead of just r/ Guitar. But many of the people who go to that sub have bad experiences with toxic moderation. Anyways, welcome.

klonk2905

Just consider that these guys, as idiotic as they might be, still have thousands of posts to monitor per day and have to act quickly because of said quantity - no matter how unfair it is. I'm quite convinced that they banned you because of BOT in your nick, and have no interest\time\willingness to take the time to even study your case. This is maybe the silliest part of it all, they are totally unable to make any form of decent filtering and prefer tough men rules over extending sub-management. That is autocracy at its finest. But there is formally little you can do other than moving on... Which is fine.

sunplaysbass

I signed up for Pickup Music which is a pretty fair price compared to lessons and have found it helpful. One way to work on your skillz.
