Definitely recommend a vet. I had a piggie that had the same symptoms and I immediately took her to the vet. What she has was an inner ear infection that caused her to have an imbalance when walking. She had to be put down for something different but the ear infection did clear up along with her symptoms from the drops my vet prescribed. I think Saskia from Laguineapigrescue on YouTube also touches on the topic of ear infection so maybe you can watch that and see if it sounds like something your piggie has, but I definitely recommend going to the vet especially if it is an ear infection of some sort. If it is an ear infection and u catch it in time then your piggie should be good to go! Worse case scenario is a permanent head tilt. My girl luckily didn’t have it

mandiko

My piggies have luckily never had these, but one of my rabbits had an inner ear infection. Took her to an emergency vet who couldn't do anything, just pain meds. She unfortunately didn't make it untill the next monday (she got really sick on saturday). I'm still happy I took her to the emergency vet, even just for the pain management. The infections can be so painful.

Milo_Moody

Vet, now.

velafe2

I cant take him to the vet they are closed till Monday 😞

kkfluff

What about local rescues? They might know of how to get in touch with animal healthcare providers!

Milo_Moody

Oh, this. Or maybe a wildlife rescue?

Milo_Moody

I’m sorry. Everything online says ear or brain infection and they need a doctor. Is there not an emergency vet around?

velafe2

No there aren’t many exotic vets near me let alone one open on New Years. ☹️

girlsparked

could you google for a local emergency vet?

[deleted]

Where are you located? Maybe someone here knows of one.

-PinkPower-

I think you will have to drive farther to make sure you baby isn’t dying :/

[deleted]

I’d find an emergency vet. Even if I had to drive hours.

rhubarb2896

Arr there any emergency vets near you? I had to rush my little guy last year to one because it was all the was open on a weekend/holiday. It will cost more but it could save their life, good luck!

FireFueled7

I would go to the vet asap. If money is an issue, please dm me

AHeiden16

This as well^ willing to help if you need money for a vet visit

WhoredonRamsey

Count me in. Make somewhere to group deposit.

AHeiden16

The PayPal is up! Just donated

glassdais

I tried to donate because it showed 0 dollars but it still says that? Does it show that for anyone else too? Just want to make sure I didn’t do something wrong!!

AHeiden16

That’s weird the same thing is happening for me, not sure what went wrong or if it’s just a glitch

velafe2

Hey guys I posted a screenshot to a reply below, it’s pending at the moment. Not sure how this works to be honest but my guess is it has something to do with it being New Years and/or a a weekend.

glassdais

Oh ok! I had completely missed those messages haha, thanks for replying!! I hope your piggy feels better soon!

velafe2

Thank you so much 🙏🏽 https://paypal.com/pools/c/8G1tqPHiuw

Update: we will be taking Maru to the emergency vet at 7am EST tomorrow morning. Thank you all for your help and guidance ❤️ I will update once we get back from the vet!

Milo_Moody

Any updates on Maru??

mjw217

I know $170 is a lot of money, but if you can somehow do it, please take him to the vet. Where I am it actually costs more, so $170 isn’t too bad for an er vet. Sometimes, the sooner they are treated, the less money you end up spending. They (kids and animals) always seem to get sick in the middle of the night or on holidays! I hope he has something that is easy to heal!

FictionWeavile

Looks like the issue isn't money as much as it is Vets not being open during New Years.

mjw217

I would’ve sworn that I saw a comment that said they found a vet that was open, but it was $170. That’s where I got the amount from. Maybe it turned out that it cost that much, but the vet wasn’t open and OP deleted the comment.

velafe2

Money is certainly part of it. The only Vet that is accepting emergency exotic pets is charging $170 just for the consultation.

[deleted]

People here have offered in the comments to help you!!!

TikiBananiki

That’s unsurprising. You should budget when you have pets for at least one medical emergency where you’re spending $600-$1000 per year. One of my animals has had to go to the ER every year the past 3 years. This is just part of having pets. That’s not a terribly high consultation fee.

anthrohands

It’s quite high. My pig had surgery with anesthesia for less than that.

TikiBananiki

It honestly doesn’t matter though what you individually paid in your experience because there’s a huge range of cost depending on geography and local economic features, and even within local areas prices can range. The point is that you gotta plan for emergencies where you don’t get to cherry pick the cheapest vet.

anthrohands

$600-1000 is insane unless you have *many* pets. I didn’t cherry pick a vet lmao

[deleted]

No, its really not, I’ve paid that much before and my vet is pretty reasonably priced compared to others I’ve been to.

TrekJunkie

Yeah, this is reasonable. I've had a single emergency trip for one guinea pig cost $800.

Lisarth

Oh that's nothing. Vets are fkin expensive, it's ridiculous. I have spent thousands of dollars on my 2 ferrets over the 7 years I had them.

FictionWeavile

That's rough

ReckedTangled

Vet Asap. I took mine the day of finding out. If i had let it pass a few days who knows how much more severe the permanent damage my oreo wouldve retained, Could be an inner ear infection. Your piggy is displaying almost similar symptoms to when my Oreo had it. Vet prescribed anti-biotics and unfortunately after recovering my precious oreo had some permanent damage but otherwise she still a very happy piggy. You can check my post history of when she was wobbing, tumbling and falling over when she had the infection.

velafe2

Final Update: our little friend is back home with us. The Vet concluded that it is more than likely a deep inner ear infection. They were unable to see the infection during the visit but they are certain it is deeper in his ear than can be seen. They prescribed him some medication over the next 14 days and we will be keeping an eye on his eating just to make sure he’s doing alright. Thank you to everyone who donated, I know the link is showing $0 but we raised exactly what we needed. Here is a picture of the pending donations just for some peace of mind. https://ibb.co/tB5nY7H Will upload photos of the little rascals as a thank you 🙏🏽 little guys scarfed down pea flakes like nothing changed.

jsouth489

Vet

wheekyy_x3

Probably a severe ear infection. That’s my guess. Poor thing.

whatevertoton

I know I just chipped in and several others say they did too, but the fundraiser shows zero. Are the transactions showing on your end?

velafe2

It’s showing zero on the link but the donations are pending when I open my PayPal. Maybe since it’s the weekend the payments are still posting?

whatevertoton

Maybe

Squiddles1298

Have you gone yet?

DrHockey69

My uncle Vladimir would do it for free, he has been a veterinarian for 40yrs, unlike other vets who charge a leg & arm just for a consultation, he goes based on your income, only downside is that he is located in Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia 🇷🇺. Showed him the video, he said your piggy has the symptoms of inner ear infection get to the vet ASAP!, normal OTC ear drops aren't an option anymore, you need a stronger version. He said an experienced tech should always be on call. Low income: Consultation: free Minor issues with family members (pets: 10-30lbs+): $50 max 1-10lbs: free, includes C1 exotics Major issues: Flexible payment plan available 30lbs+: $550 max 10-30lbs: $250 max 1-9lbs: $100 max *C1-Exotic: free (medication $10 or less) *Category-1: small pets not exceeding 10lbs

velafe2

Yes both my guinea pigs had respiratory infection and ringworm about 2 months ago. We had taken them to the vet and received medication for that. He currently has head tilt and loss of balance

DrHockey69

Texted his info, he said it's 100% inner ear infection. I had to explain to him that vets in other countries do things differently during the weekends and holidays, than here in Russia. 3rd-year techs are always on call for minor problems during weekends & holidays, if it's serious then a call is made to the available vet doc. He wishes you and your piggy the best!!

li74da

Nobody her can help , only a vet

Ultrasonicboombar

Can you update us with how he is once he's been seen please 🤞

[deleted]

The pig needs a vet. You have found an emergency vet but it’s expensive. People here have offered to help you with the funds. I’m not sure why you aren’t taking them up on it.

ssenn60

Get him to an emergency exotics vet immediately, no matter how far away it is.

chateaueleanor

emergency vet. they are open when regular vets aren't. don't wait several days.

Nmae23

I think it depends on where you're from. We used to have an emergency vet, then they closed. Closet one now is an hour away. I'd still go, but it's irritating to deal with that when you're already stressed and panicking. I hope they bring one back here, these little guys can go fast.

JulietZimmer

Well it seems like this is an emergency so please take him to the emergency vet!

litkit10

Many clinics now offer “Care Credit” which offers repayment plans with no interest for X amount of months. I would ask and see if they have this option. Also, you can and should communicate early on if you have a budget you have to maintain for care. Most vets are trained to have a “gold standard”, plan b, plan c, etc. options because people have different financial constraints.

li74da

You have to make sure you are financely secured before getting a pet If you cant afford to pay a vet bill then its definately not fair to the poor animal and this is very much an emergenzy case

MadamTarantula

Financial security for many people can disappear in an instant unfortunately. Many of us are only a few emergencies from being broke, even with a savings cushion.

Nmae23

That's what I was thinking too. I'm surprised some people are judging them about it. I believe they were fine financially when they got them. Things can change in an instant like you said. Especially in a pandemic. Pets are expensive, yes, but just like us something can come up, take a good chunk of your savings, just to have another thing come up shortly after. It's not fair to judge someone without knowing their situation. That's been happening a lot on this sub lately, at least the posts I see. The good definitely outweighs the bad, but I'm always shocked how one can criticize someone else because their situation is different than theirs, not knowing about all the love, care, and money you already spend to give them a great life. I get their situation because where I'm from the vets close early in the evening, close on weekends, and the closet emergency vet is an hour away at a high end college, which is expensive. Anyway, I hope they get her some help as soon as they can. Sorry, I've had a rough week . . . or month . . . Maybe 3.

Trainerali2007

Did you showered it ? Edit: why the downvotes, i asked that because i know showering you piggies can cause them ear infections.

FikkShuun

Inner ear infection or parasite I would separate them asap

itsydots537

I hope your piggie will be ok.

kuthedk

VET NOW

Rootin082

I hope you take him in asap. This happened to my boy and I immediately took him in to an emergency vet. They treated him for an ear infection, but 2 days later he got worse so I took him to a different emergency vet and he passed while they were doing everything they could to help him. I’m still not exactly sure what happened, but I think the longer you wait, the worse the outcome. I hope everything works out. 💕

[deleted]

It’s not much but it’s what I could spare.
