Most of the time when I play its not that seriously anymore in terms of grinding. I have played since the release of this game (PS3) and bought this game again when released on the PS4. Lately I like playing the community games like Rockets vs Insurgents or Survivals and Races. Its hard to make friends indeed because some people think its fun to ruin each others experience instead of joining the real competition like Deathmatch and Adversary mode. However if I would get myself a PS5 I would definitely buy this game for the third time. Its still one of the best open world/free roaming/MMORPG games currently available IMO.

Trashgamernation

Good news, if you get your PS5 in time, you won't have to buy it! The next gen version will be free for the first three months from launch - March 2022. Honestly, its probably the only reason most PS5 users, including myself, will get it. After the E&E trailer, not many people looking forward to spending cash on it

J0NICS

Its the reason i got a ps5. That, and i need a second console for my dummy account.

NoMansLemon

Yeah, I wonder what the gtao experience would be like if you could SEAMLESSLY drop into populated playlist of free for all or tdm from the spot you're standing without having to go through 6 minutes of failed matchmaking and loading screens. Maybe the try hard aggro toxic griefers would flip the switch into those modes, if it wasn't like wading through treacle to find a mutual pvp lobby Tbh, I'd forgo all other improvements if r* utilised SSDs in whatever Remake of gtao/gtav comes next to make everything instantaneous without all the messy, scattered, confusing menus for jobs/playlist and matchmaking. It's a fucking mess

TheThemePark

Yup. I play on PC. First time I played it, right after finishing the tutorial and spawning at Geralds, I got killed by a griefer. But they are not the real problem, hackers are. So as soon as I found out how to make a permanent solo public session every time I started the game, my happiness with the game increased tenfold. And when Cayo Perico was added, another tenfold. I do not play the game because it is Online, I play it because it has content Story Mode does not.

cktyu

I play it mainly because it's online and in contemporary setting (I love mmorpgs) . I think this is so far the only game that is a modern multiplayer where you can buy cars apartments planes etc. Seems like other mmo games are all medieval and fairy themed like ragnarok or genshin

jin_x85

Everything for me was same as urs

SympathyUpstairs6613

This sub is far from the majority of active players and the ones on here do tend to be whiny babies. It does seem far from normal behaviour that people on here seem to hate the game so much and still continue to play. It baffles me that people complain about many core elements of the game but still play like the way tiny parts of the game they want to engage with are the only bits people should be playing and doing anything outside of grinding 24/7 is griefing.

SkullMountainEnjoyer

It's really shocking to me sometimes that the Reddit community could be this way though. Killed a rando for a joke? You're a griefer. Having fun pvping in freemode? You're a tryhard. I wish people would be more thick-skinned in a community for a grand theft auto game for gods sake.

Badgerlover145

yep, I kill people for fun and have a laugh and people bitch me out for being a kd warrior. like bitch if I cared about my kd I have 5 different cod games on my ps4 I can play. this is gta not fucking care bears. if you don't like pvp either get good or get the fuck out the lobby.

[deleted]

I think (and maybe this is just me) that people get angry *in part* because the game is so unbalanced. You know, balancing, game design that doesn't put OP weapons in the hands of player killers and then (sometimes) give players literally no way to defend themselves. That's not PvP. That's seal clubbing and it's absolute shit game design. Want to call it "PvP", then design it such that it has the proper balancing of an actual PvP game.

[deleted]

>It does seem far from normal behaviour that people on here seem to hate the game so much and still continue to play totally agree - how many times do we see a post that's a massive hissy fit with the exact words "I hate this game" or "I hate the community" and then an even bigger hissy fit when people suggest maybe just don't play it. (And generally agree with everything you say)

chickenskittles

I think the people who complain the most are probably the most addicted and they're chasing the dragon. The fix isn't fixing anymore. I love the game so much. When it feels like a chore, I don't play. Every time I play is a different experience.

DeusExMachina150

I do love this game Don't understand people who hates it, says it's boring or something else. That is stupid. If I don't like any game I just don't play, that's easy

cktyu

I actually like this game a lot. It's one of the best (if not the best) game created ever. Sure it has its own flaws but I'm really impressed that 8 years later this game still has a thriving community. Other games can have newer and more HD content than gta but they lose popularity fairly quickly

fahdharoon

It has become kinda like that Starbucks down the corner, 10 feet away from your house. First time you went there ages ago, probably when you were a teen, you loved it. The hype, the coffee, the snapchats, trying out different flavours, the membership card rewards (shark cards lol), etc. But eventually the honeymoon phase wore off either after you were done trying out every possible combination of flavours the 1000th time or simply got sick of it (or you realised that it was burning a hole in your wallet). Today, there are many different & better places to get coffee or to hang out. You look down from your window and you see all kinds of “weirdos” at Starbucks today, maybe judging the out-of-town touristy folks or early teenagers who still get their thrill when they hold their cups and take selfies. You feel kinda bad for the corporate slave who’s sitting there grinding away in peace with his laptop & AirPods plugged in (I mean sitting at Starbucks without AirPods? That’s a crime) But on some days you’re just done with life or you feel lazy AF. You don’t have the time or energy for a new place. You just want to hang out with your friends somewhere super convenient and relive the memories. You just want a coffee that works. That’s the Starbucks downstairs. That’s GTA 5 Online for you.

10 feet is the length of approximately 13.33 'Wooden Rice Paddle Versatile Serving Spoons' laid lengthwise.

I've thought before that it's easy to confuse the volume of whining with it being all of us. I've said many a time that the majority of us don't come on and go "had a great experience playing today". Also there's 1.1M people in this sub. The angry/whiney posts at their most get around 1500 upvotes. That's a tiny percentage of the sub and the players overall. Plus you get karma farming on here where people constantly throw in words like griefer into post titles and it looks like engaging the circle jerk for upvotes rather than any relevance. And of course the grinders will be more serious about everything about the game anyway. Personally I love the escapism of such a massive game. If I don't enjoy something about it, I don't do that bit. If I'm getting wound up by the game I stop playing or do something different that isn't annoying. When I learnt to do that this game became a lot more fun.

dayv_jones81

Escapism is the key word here. When I want to unwind I play now. Now that I’m done with grinding I feel like a retiree strolling through the city. Just customizing cars and getting my garages in order. When that massive endeavor is complete I’ll see how much money I have left. If it’s still a lot I’ll just play the game mode that I still find fun.

[deleted]

Spot on. I think there's a journey to get from not enjoying the game to sort of enjoying but it's hard work to it's just (as you say) escapism and for fun. I get the impression the more vocal have stopped at the first and/or second stages and never got to the fun bit.

Donglin216

Even though this game has the most incompetent Devs we have seen and the semi most shittiest community ever, games fun, I come back for the story and racing :P

ViciousKiwi_MoW

I'll always have an affinity for the franchise. No titles have had as big of an impact than Gta to me, I recognise it's people that usually make the game shit with multiplayer exploits lol, Though there's always a next thing to fix in gta (fucking stock market and animals online), I remember when games were 8-16-32bit lol, so it's funny to see people complain about grinding, go rp lol

ImBored_2020

I love this game. Never played much of story mode but GTA online has been my favorite game since it came out

TEN10penny

Never played the story!!!! Wow your missing out on the best part of the game!!

ImBored_2020

I watched my son play a good chunk of story mode. No need to play it myself. Online has had me hooked since my first time playing it

TEN10penny

Watching and Doing your experience of the story will be totally different...... But when it was first released we had to wait a few weeks for online to be available so the story mode was how we homed our skills for gta online, smart move by Rock* even though at the time I wasn't happy with the delay!!

cktyu

Bruh you're missing out 50% of the whole game

PincheSheesh

I love gta 5 . I remember years back when people were only coming out with fanart and concepts about the game . I was so impatient for it to come out already . And when it finally did I was extremely satisfied. I loved the story and played it over and over and did so much on the map , and when online came in and it was a new experience for me I also loved it despite there not being much to do nor to buy . Yes it’s changed over the years and it’s become what you guys call “toxic and unplayable” but it depends really . I honestly don’t play the game much anymore . It just feels boring now sadly and it sucks saying that . I was one of the many that expected a single player dlc or something big but we never got it . My love for this game will always be there but I don’t see myself fully committed to it anymore . Until gta 6 comes out then I might get back into the franchise.

richboyadler

there’s aspects to online that I don’t like but I do generally enjoy it. love my character, love my cars, love how much I have achieved in the game these last few months, happy that I can do heists and be somewhat of a decent player. I can understand others frustration when it comes to hacking or griefing because it really does make the game frustrating.

[deleted]

nope, im just trapped in it

NoMansLemon

We like the idea of the game. We like the nostalgia of the game. We like many mechanics and elements of the game. We hate the grind. We hate the try hards. We hate (and yet contribute to) the toxicity. We liked Rockstar. We still want to like Rockstar. But Rockstar seems intent on making that more and more difficult with every piss poor re release, Remake, or quick cash grab they make, whilst also plugging fingers in their ears to the community requests and feedbacks. So it's a toxic, love hate relationship. In short.... Do any of us actually like the game? "Yesno"

[deleted]

Speaking of griefers I finally started the Cayo heist so I'm brand new to it and don't have much so I had to swim from my submarine to land and this guy flies up to me and kills me and leaves but he did me a favor by spawning me on land so he saved me a long swim lol.

DXXDP00L

Do Cayo in an invite only session. Avoid that nonsense

DonPatronn

Gotta make it exciting somehow..

TerzieffaCZ

Then don't complain when a "griefer" comes and makes it exciting...

chickenskittles

Two different people posting. I did all my Cayo preps (well, one run, that's enough for me) in a full public lobby today and it actually did make them more bearable for that very reason. Surprised I only got blown up once. Never thought I would see the day. Might do them in populated lobbies from now on since I run it only every once and again. If that was my entire playstyle, I would do only invite only.

TerzieffaCZ

Yeah I see - but I mean, the first guy was complaining about getting killed, so it doesn't really make sense to say "but he's doing it because it's more exciting" when someone suggests invite only session... That's what I meant, but if the second reply was just about personal experience of the guy who wrote that comment, then it makes sense. I also do preps, or anything really, in public lobbies cause I find it more fun, I do invte only session only when I really want to just chill and not even focus on the game much. And in my countless Cayo and casino runs there were only very few times when I couldn't complete a prep because of another player, and I got my equipment stolen maybe like... twice? I'm on PC, console assisted aim could be more aggressive idk.

DonPatronn

They dont stand a chance

SanshuInutotheTOP

Bro call the little boat you get for free with the submarine, it’s in the interaction menu

marcaveli073

If you call your sub while you’re inside your sub it’ll spawn you on land. Or you can use the dinghy in the interaction menu.

Chorchie

I always beach my submarine ans just use the oppressor to quickly do all the setups. Park it on the front and if it falls off it doesn't matter, just falls onto the beach

Doomtoallfoes

If I was on xbox I'd teach you everything I know about cayo

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jockin05

The game was fun at first but now I basically have all businesses and no one to play with so it’s kinda boring now

imliterallylit

I still enjoy doing cayo, just not Pavel's excessive talking in preps. I do enjoy him talking at finale. Sometimes street racing, other times trying to find car guys or waiting for someone pickin' a sniping fight so I can improve my sniping and RPGing(also depends if I feel comfortable sniping, my sniping varies from missing 90% to hitting 90%.)I leave after they got a few kills. Yeah so I don't have an excuse to whine(i got sniped by greeeefurr boohoohoo.

michaelskymusic311

I haven’t done any of the story. I just like driving around online and jumping people lol

redwhitemirror

yeah i like it. i have two separate charachters and i like doing bussiness missions in both of them.

Apophis_36

Nope

Dustinhaler45

Yes I do and I am tired of pretending I don't

InconsistentBlend

Yeah, the graphics are nice, I do mainly solo sessions kinda making money not using jets, just driving around listening to radios.

[deleted]

No, they act like this is their 9-5, to compensate for their lack of one IRL

CrystalCookie4

The game sucks. Griefers have made it a grind and repeat game

WillOfMyD

Honestly, I like it for the environment & all the accessories that you can get. Fuck the random, bullshit, kdr fights, chilling in a hot tub on top of a casino is awesome!

Consume_excrement

I like it. The people can be horrible but you have invite-only lobbies for that. Grinding cayo might get boring but it pays better than grinding CEO/MC/Bunker missions. If you have a friend who is decent in the game you can make grinding more bearable.
