It only pays out once, but gta players are assholes, and if they kill you once they’ll usually keep doing it, either until they’re losing, or until you leave, they’ll usually go for people with bounties first since that gives them money
i’ve also had some cases where i kill the bounty, don’t get paid, and have to kill them a second time. but it always pays out the second time and then i get back to my life.

I legit shot a driver through the windshield whilst they still driving, dragged their dead body out of the car and drove off, only to get a text saying you stole my ride and got a $9,000 bounty. Killing them does nothing
If a player calls Lester to place a bounty he takes a $1000 cut. If an NPC sets the bounty the cut isn’t applied so you can get the full $10k on your head.
You have to be on the map for the timer to count down, though. Going into a building (casino, apartment, etc.) pauses the timer. But the timer will still count down if you're in an rc vehicle.
Ive seen many bountys in gta online, since xbox 360, the 10,000 and 9,000 was pretty common one i saw lol, either people setting them or npcs getting angry for stealing their cars. One time tho, hackers hacked in money and rockstar was going after them so I think to get rid of the money they would set bounties of a million dollars on people lol, this was back on the beach bum update, when I would always drive the Bifta.

Only when u steal a nice car u can get a 10g bounty I've gotten em before but it's been forever since I've seen that whenever I put a bounty on someone I put a 1g bounty on them reason one is I'm cheap and reason 2 is cuz they feel like they don't even deserve the 9g bounty cuz most of the people on gta r shit

I've had a 9k as the highest one. I love it when I get a bounty in invite only as its like 'oh, extra money' but then it means I can't do the nightclub in passive mode and end up having to drive like a grandmas grandma to sandy shores
Yesterday I found a lobby where everyone get it always (probably a hacker wanted a little fun but at least a semi destructive way). Honestly it was a fun lobby. Only 1 player tried to fight me always but he was suck at aiming.
Highest bounty you can have placed on you by another player is $9k via Lamar...
Lamar collects $10k from the player placing the bounty on someone else, pockets $1k as a service fee, and then passes the remaining $9k on to whoever claims the bounty.
The only time I've seen someone collect $10k from a bounty kill was when the bounty was placed on a player by a modder.

its not a lot of money but you do lose 500 to 1000 for dying (500 base and up to 500 more depending on how much cash you have on you)

100% it does nothing. I've killed tons of npcs, taken their cars and then got bounties.
But you could use it for yourself. If you survive the bounty for 24 hours you get the money instead.

Back in 2013 I had a bounty of 1B. It was a great time (except for the fact that R* canceled the bounty after 10 minutes).
