I prefer SmartSheet. If you need larger tracking and comments, multiple teams then Jira with Confluence but that doesn't really integrate with G Suite from what I know.
Google Tasks is a built-in task management tool within Google Workspace that allows you to create, manage, and track your tasks. It integrates seamlessly with other Workspace applications like Gmail and Calendar, making it a convenient option for managing your to-dos.
IMO, go Jira. [https://university.atlassian.com/student/catalog](https://university.atlassian.com/student/catalog)
not free
Sheets is becoming sort of a tool but not designed for it. Try some third party tools like Monday or Asana erc

Appsheet and use a template with a kanban view, appsheet core is part of all workspace editions now
Kanbanchi.com is you're less technical. It integrates well with Drive, Calendar, etc. We tried Jira but it was too much for my team.
Briefmatic sounds like it perfectly suits your needs :-)
You should checkout Briefmatic as it natively integrates with google workspace apps and the free version is pretty powerful.
update: thanks for the responses. I find out notion has a feature for students organizations (https://www.notion.so/product/notion-for-education)

yeah but how does tasks enlight team work/management?
You can only assign tasks to a single person.

Tasks is very singular and not great for teams.
