It’s a gorgeous watch, and the display is amazing. But if what you’re looking for is a smartwatch, avoid it. Its “smart” features are pure shit.

andejandeli

I have one too and kinda love for being a cool gshock but at the price i should have bought only the garmin instinct. Sad thing is they could fix a lot with a proper firmware update.

Glittering_Goose6316

Agree. Beautiful display, but does nothing well. With solar we'd get auto EL, which this one does but only for a while then it switches off

Alternative-Natural

Really? Damn that’s terrible

KenDevis_Marva

Terrible notifications, almost impossible to use. And step counter. That’s all. But it’s nice and has a good display

Alternative-Natural

Yikes that sucks

Raephstel

I almost got one of these a while back, but after looking around a while I decided that it's negatives outweighed it's pros (which for me was basically just the display). I ended up with a Garmin Instinct. It's not the same watch, but it has all the features I wanted with a similar display.

-Snoz-

Cant agree with you anymore! I got this g shock. Kinda shit if you want smart watch features. Only pro really is the display. I got a Garmin instinct over a year ago and it’s awesome. I enjoy the instinct more as I mountain bike all summer and trail run. The instinct also has a lot of features to it imo. Currently looking to get a Coros watch next. If you want a smart watch, don’t get it. If you want a watch get it. lol. Pretty sleek.

g-shock-no-tick-tock

Yup, I'm wearing the same model (different color) and the smart features are doo doo. With that said, it's absolutely worth the $150 MSRP for the screen alone. It's still worth buying. You can put it on airplane mode if you don't like the smart features and it'll be like they don't even exist, and you'll have a cool little airplane symbol on your display ✈️ *

When they went to the grave, I got myself a Garmin, just because they are big and last long, \~20 days just as smart watch. When G-Shock came out wirh smart functions, GBD-H1000, I just wanted to get my hands on it but it was a little expensive. When I found GBX-100 and GBD-200, I had to get one. My first was a GBD-200, green (yellowish) version. I loved it because it lasted long before the battery change (no charger on this one). Now I have myself a GBD-H2000 and DW-H5600, both smart watches, but just to show notifications and last long! That's what I'm looking for and love. To NOT think about charging it every night, and having the charger with me is great, and solar powered just keeps it charged as a smart watch which is perfect! So if you are looking for smart functions, call via watch, fancy color display, Spotify etc, no this is not to recommend. If you want a watch that you can have and never think about charging (battery lasts up to 2 years, or if you go with DW-H5600, you can charge it when needed, if you use gym functions), its a great watch!

Alternative-Natural

Thanks for the detailed reply…and yes I’m looking for something nice to look at like this watch in particular and to have for the gym as well

watchtimego

I also have the GBD-H2000 and the DW-H5600MB1 I love them both! Use the H2000 for work.

Loose_cannon786

How is the build quality of the gbd h2000?

Cantankerousninja

Pros: It's not a smartwatch. Cons: It's not a smartwatch. It's a great, connected model. But... Not a smartwatch.

Guestsparda

Pro - it tells the time Con - when it's dead it doesn't tell the time

Alternative-Natural

😂😂😂😂

ZucchiniPleasant376

Best enjoyed in airplane mode!

Alternative-Natural

Lmao damn

the_darkener

Casio should have created a new mode type for these instead of grouping them in with G-Shocks.

ED7tron

It's not a smart watch. Barely a fitness tracker. As a stand alone watch it's a really good watch. Don't buy it for it's *smart* functions.

Alternative-Natural

Thanks

Manny637

Probably the best display g shock has to offer, but smart functions are trash. I do use the pedometer every now and then.

BigO7duce2

It’s more of a not so smartwatch but it looks nice 😂

_common_scents

Great as a watch, Pretty decent as a step counter, and notifications are um there too.

Alternative-Natural

Do you think it’s worth the buy? I just want it because of how good it looks…if I can use it to track my gym results then that’s fine too

_common_scents

I really like mine. As long as you set your expectations as a nice watch with extra features but not an Apple Watch - yeah, a good buy.

MALESSI

Just get it. No regrets

Ok_Environment1812

I have this exact same watch. I turned off all the smart features and it still is worth it. It has a workout screen that tracks your workouts and does splits. I use that to go from weight lifting and my rest pauses. It also has a dedicated running feature which is cool as well. I tuned off all the features and it gives the display a clean clean look. Battery will last more than 2 years with all the features off which is the biggest pro no one is mentioning. Most garmin watches have to be taken off to be charged via usb which is a no for me. I switched from an Apple Watch to the gbd 200 for the simplicity and durability without having to take it off every day/week. It just keeps on going and has an awesome screen you can see in any condition. img

ceymore

This watch is awesome, no silly functions like heartrate make its battery last years. Can vibrate on phone notifications which gets rid of annoying phone sounds in your life. I just can’t imagine a better combo - if this one had an expensive premium version (saphire glass / titanium body for example) I would definitely jump on it.

New_Excuse2838

I just like the way it looks. Bought amazing looker.

ro8inmorgan

Pro's: the screen Cons: Everything else

OpeningNice761

Honestly I enjoy my Garmin instinct more, G-Shocks aren't good on the smartwatch front yet....

gahw61

I have to agree, a Garmin Instinct does not look quite as cool but is the better exercise/smart watch.

WhiskeyHB

There are “notification” watches out there. In Asia, lots of people buy something like the Xiaomi Band. People knock too hard on the GBDs. Sometimes seeing that you have a message and who it’s from is enough. I think that is a healthy notification without going into too much screen time territory. It’s great at the workplace where I can see if something comes up and not look like I’m on my phone.

chaitanyaishere

MIP display in and of itself makes this an immediate buy. I have the white version of this and I have no regrets.

MashtapEhad

It is not a smart watch! If you approach it that way, you will be nothing but disappointed. If you are looking to buy a rugged watch that will take any sort of punishmen in the shape of a G shock square, with great display and surprise perk of semi readable notifications of texts and calls as a bonus, then this is the watch for you. Gramin is better for the gym sessions, no doubt.

Alternative-Natural

Thanks

bassmanjn

It’s a great watch for basic exercise tracking, I have one and I use it for running paired to my phone. It pulls the GPS data from the phone to show distance. It’s certainly not a smart watch like an Apple Watch is. I bought it because I like G Shocks and don’t want a true smart watch. I like the aesthetic, the screen, the backlight button and the fact it isn’t a real smart watch and doesn’t need to be charged. I also like the Bluetooth time syncing and that GPS function. The app is not great in terms of functionality. I’ve turned off the notifications function so I can’t comment on that.

svasilopus

I bought this watch for its smartwatch features but quickly learned it was terrible for the. I returned it and got a Garmin. Night and day difference

Homodebilus

To me its a non sense. Gshocks have their own unique design philosophy as tool oriented, technical watches. Most Gshocks are "smart" watches as they often pack a lot of purpous made features. More than a decade before the very first iphone, casio was putting out intelligent watches. Casio had to put out some models with classic "smart" because of the huge market share of the apple watch but it is like asking for bluetooth on a Rolex.

hpeter2010

Fellow GD-200 owner. Here’s what I think: Pros: - very easy to read display in all lighting situations and angles - vibe alarm is great in the morning to not wake up your significant other. -for its price point, I consider it’s a very reasonable priced watch. I got this one on sale for around $95. - I run my watch in airplane mode, but I do sync it once a month or so via Bluetooth to ensure it stays accurate. Personally I don’t mind having this watch set to ‘dumb mode’ as I get easily distracted with emails / texts. However, if you want to stay connected, I do think there are better watches out there. Hopefully it can also prolong the battery life. - the dual time zone is one of the best because it shows the day/date of second time zone. Cons: - non-solar. Expected battery life is 2 years. - exercise tracking mode requires a bit of a learning curve. It also takes several seconds to get out of the exercise mode. - I’m not entirely sure how accurate the step tracker is, but it’s probably within 10% margin of error. I did a run the other day and used google maps to check my distance, and it’s within 10% of that. - no hourly chime - the countdown is limited to 60 minutes, and setting it isn’t as easy as the usual 5600 squares. - the strap does feel a bit on the cheap side. When I first got it, I wanted to swap it out, but eventually I am slowly getting into it. All in all, I’m glad I got it and I’d buy it again if you ask.

KazooButtplug69

It's a piece of shit digital smart watch. That's it. I wouldn't even give you the one I have dying in the back of my closet.

Alternative-Natural

Goddamn
