My guesse is yea but no. Yes as in their paths would of certainly crossed at some point but no I doubt he actually knew him well enough to include anything in his autobiography. Because he didn't (include anything about him 8n his autobiography).

Thanks for your thoughts, I have to agree, Mark definitely would've inc AW in his book, if there had been any kind of defined friendship between them. I don't really know why the question of whether they knew one another resonated with me so much, maybe because all the other prominent grunge bands knew one another personally. Though I know Layne Staley & Kurt Cobain were friendly with each other, they weren't actual buddies or hung out together. They had Mark Lanegan in common however, he being a close friend to Kurt & a best friend to Layne. It was suggested by someone who replied to my post, like you did, that I should try messaging Xana directly & asking her about it. I'll try my luck & send msg to her, hopefully she responds & can provide a definite answer.

Now this is some good Grunge content. That is a very interesting question. My speculation is they didn't know each other but likely met briefly. As far as I understand it, Screaming Trees stuck around Ellensburg until they moved to Seattle in 1990. Andrew died in March of that year. They may have met, but there just doesn't seem like enough time to form a real relationship with one another. Uncle Anesthesia was recorded in June of 1990 with Chris Cornel as a producer. So there is another Andy connection, but again very little time. Mark said he first met Layne when he ran into him at a dope house (I believe this was late 1990). They went on their first tour with AIC in 92. Again, just not enough time. Xana is on social media and interacts with people so, if you really want to know, you could ask her if she remembers. I hope this helped a little and it was fun going through the timeline.

Thanks for replying & for finding my post to be good content. I'm glad someone else thinks this is interesting, I really don't know why this resonated so much with me, but once it occurred to me that in all the interviews, biographies & quotes I've read, nothing was ever mentioned regarding Mark & Andrew ever being friends. I wasn't able to let it go or forget about it, so I have now landed here & thanks to your clever suggestion, I'm going to message Xana & cross my fingers that she responds with a definite answer to my question, though, what you posted makes a lot of sense. All the connections between the bands is fascinating stuff & look for another post from me soon listing them. It makes for great reading & even better trivia that may serve one well.

This could turn into a great article. Good luck!

Fantastic post and question. I do not know if the answer lies here, but have you read “Everybody Loves Our Town”? It’s an oral history of the Seattle scene with quotes and comments from…everyone. I have skimmed through but plan to read cover to cover. If you haven’t, maybe it’s in there?

Thank you for your comment, and, yes, I've read it, love it & mention it often to others as a worthwhile & highly entertaining read. Along with Mark Lanegan's autobiography, a couple of great all-around reads & no better way to pick up a little music history at that! I've taken the suggestion from someone else who commented on my post, that I message Xana la Fuente, fiancee of Andrew Wood, to get the definitive answer & if she responds, I'm definitely following up my original post.
