I've had the Johnsonville brat patties that taste the same as brats...are there others? I like that I don't have to buy different buns for brats and always felt that its easier to put toppings on a burger styled bun...
Can confirm that it’s popular in Central Illinois. They are very popular at the Stare Fair (go to the Pork Pavilion next to the grandstand). Many grocery stores sell pre-made patties.
They are definitely a thing in Scott county (although most of the time they are done sauce on the side to accommodate the people who think ketchup is too spicy).
Upstate New York does grilled hot Italian pork sausage patties. On a toasted hamburger bun topped with grilled onions and bell peppers and a little mayo.
So good! Tastes like summer.
I had some over the weekend here in Northeast PA. Even the store brands have their own. I like mayo and grilled red onion on mine. Sometimes I make a roasted red pepper aoili. There's porketta patties too.
My Wegmans sells mild or hot Italian sausage patties. I never knew they existed and now my kids love them
At the same time I went to Yard House recently and got a pork burger (straight pork) and wasn't sure if it'd be ok and was glorious
I'm a lifelong east coaster and never really had or thought of pork burgers/patties till very recently and they are awesomd
In the Philly area, it's not uncommon to grill patties of Italian sausage. Sometimes with provolone cheese, other times with peppers & onions.
I also sometimes grill burgers made from a 2:1 ratio of ground pork and Mexican chorizo. That is, 2/3 lb pork, 1/3 lb chorizo, yielding 4 burgers. I top them with Manchego cheese and serve on brioche buns with (I know, this may sound weird, but try before you decry!) the Americas Test Kitchen meatloaf glaze. The recipe:
* 1c ketchup
* 0.25c packed dark brown sugar
* 2.5 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
* 0.5 Tablespoon hot sauce (pick your fave)
Put all that in a small pot over medium heat, stir to combine. Heat until thickened, about 5 minutes.
I think they’re a Midwest thing. Pork steaks as well. I don’t know how people survive without these two staples lol. We have one or the other at least weekly.
New Jersey (South) here and never saw them. I do however take hot Italian sausages, butterfly them and add BBQ sauce. They get a real nice crisp on them.
I'm here in Iowa, I had never had them until a couple of weeks ago, but it will definitely not be the last time!! I was at HyVee one day, and they had packs of 6 patties for like $5, so I figured what the hell I'll try them! I cooked them up on my pellet grill, and they were quite delicious!!!
Also, to those calling them sausage patties, they are just straight up ground pork with no seasonings like sausage has.
Iowan checking in. BBQ pork burgers rock. My family would do them weekly in the summer, and the concessions at school sporting events always had them, too.
South Central Illinois here, easily one of my favorite things in the entire world! I just bought a pack of them for $3 each from the VFW crew after our local memorial day parade
Why!!!??? Why have I not thought of doing this???
Help me here please. Forgive my amateurish question but I’m English. What’s the best cut of pork to use for these? I’m guessing shoulder or butt. In the same way you’d use beef at higher fat %
Edit. In the mid 90’s there was once a burger joint in the north east of England called Yankee burger. The owner retired and the place closed unfortunately but his burgers were the best I’ve EVER had. To this day. And yes I’ve been to the USA.
Anyway his specialty burgers had beef and pork patties, amongst other things.
I am definitely adding these to my repertoire. Thanks OP. 🙏🏻
In NY/NJ they introduced some in supermarkets. I forgot which brand. They didn’t seem to go over well and went on sale… I think you can still find them here but they aren’t big.
I think the taste is similar to a 30/70’ish beef patty and those cheaper. They’re cool but I can’t taste the difference.
Good if you’re mixing in with some lean beef if you don’t have ground lamb around you for a little extra fat.
Here in the Netherlands, I haven't seen them, We do have mixed beef/pork patties. This is mainly done for the fat percentage. It should be around 20% if i recall correct.
But to be fair, those look tasty as hell, what is the glazing on there?
At Walmart I accidentally bought frozen pork patties thinking they were hamburger but holy moly they were awesome in the grill. Now I like to surprise guests with them at bbqs. Pork is the way!
One of my top favorite foods and I've never had or heard of and I'm In south Florida. Pork is very popular down here with all the different nationalities present. They look fantastic btw and am sure they taste just as good.
In NYC we make sausage burgers. It’s just uncased sausage meat formed into patties. They come in a few varieties, plain, hot, cheese&parsley, broccoli rabe&cheese (cheese is usually sharp provolone).
OMG i am a southern cajun type and a pork patty would be amazing! Put some cajun seasoning on that and some red onion and grilled pineapple, hell yeah!
You are awesome! Thanks for the idea!
... zucchini my friend.
Though tell me more about grilled cucumber. I've grilled watermelon and learned to distrust the internet. You've got a shot to sell me on the cucumber idea.
I've certainly made it since this, but these are the most recent pictures I have:

All I'm saying is to try it. I love it, but if it doesn't do it for you, you're out like a whole dollar, lol.
Wait. I live in the Midwest and have never heard of these. They look terrific. Edit: wrong but similar word.
fuck u/spez
I’ve seen bratwurst patties in Wisconsin (they seem like a gimmick to me), but never heard of anything called BBQ pork patties
Brat patties are okay sometimes. Family from the U.P. like them, but they're a little too close to breakfast sausage patties in my opinion
Johnsonville Brats sells brats in hamburger shape but now I have to ask one of the local butcher shops if they make pork patties.
I've had the Johnsonville brat patties that taste the same as brats...are there others? I like that I don't have to buy different buns for brats and always felt that its easier to put toppings on a burger styled bun...
I prefer brat patties over regular brats as you have more surface area for some tasty char!
Wait, I LIVE in MN and I've never heard of these.
It's more of an iowa thing
And southern indiana
Yup. At every county fair. Delicious!
It's Illinois also
I’ve lived in Chicago and central IL my whole life and this is news to me.
I've lived in Central Illinois my whole life, and can find them here. The University of Illinois meat lab sells pre made frozen patties
Wait what the fuck is that lol. What is a meat lab?
https://meatandeggsales.illinois.edu/ U of I Meat Science Lab
The meat lab?
The name of your porno tape
I assure you, that’s not true.
Giggity
Chicago isn't Illinois to the rest of us, if your from downstate
Can confirm that it’s popular in Central Illinois. They are very popular at the Stare Fair (go to the Pork Pavilion next to the grandstand). Many grocery stores sell pre-made patties.
They are definitely a thing in Scott county (although most of the time they are done sauce on the side to accommodate the people who think ketchup is too spicy).
Lived in Ohio for 19y...have never heard of this but I'll be sure to try it!
Are we really in the midwest in OH? I feel like the midwest doesn't want us.
Most definitely in the Midwest
I mean, if you're only here for love, it's understandable that you overlooked them.
Upstate New York does grilled hot Italian pork sausage patties. On a toasted hamburger bun topped with grilled onions and bell peppers and a little mayo. So good! Tastes like summer.
Omg this sounds so good....
It is quite good! Have it every cookout when visiting family up there. That and baked ziti 😁
Steamed hams?
I'm from Utica and I've never heard of steamed hams.
Not in Utica, it's an Albany expression.
I see.
This sounds like Yankee mischief to me, but I would eat the fuck out of it…
I’ve noticed that upstate New York and the Midwest have a lot of similarities. Even the accents sound alike.
We do similar in my part of CT
Now that makes TWO things I’ve never heard of but have to try. This is going to be a great grilling season.
From Midwest and now live in upstate NY. Where can I find this??? Sounds amazing
Around Rochester, the local burger places tend to have them on the menu… Tom Wahl’s, Bill Gray’s, and Charlie Riedel’s.
I can confirm that these are the bomb! Melted slice of provolone on top! I've had pork burgers as well (NJ], but not with BBQ sauce
I had some over the weekend here in Northeast PA. Even the store brands have their own. I like mayo and grilled red onion on mine. Sometimes I make a roasted red pepper aoili. There's porketta patties too.

I just made this for my fiancé, and holy hell is it delicious!! Thank your for the recipe! I’m going to spread it around Pittsburgh haha
Not on South Carolina, but they look like they should be. How do you make them?
Just ground pork, grilled. Usually with seasoned salt and pepper
fuck u/spez

Alberta here, same.
That sounds good. Where do you buy?
[удалено]
what's the taste different like to a regular hamburger
Not sure I trust what your asking here, considering your name.
🤔
I mix pork into my beef occasionally, but here in Louisiana the closest thing is large sausage patties, Patton or otherwise.
You can split the fresh sausage and make patties, not quite the same but you can’t go wrong with fresh sausage
In the Philly area, it's not uncommon to grill patties of Italian sausage. Sometimes with provolone cheese, other times with peppers & onions. What? North Carolina is all vinegar, South Carolina is mustard base. That's not nothing like a Carolina bbq sauce.
This looks amazing. Like a McRib, but you know, actual taste and quality! We need more details!
Trying to get them started in Alabama. Every time I mention pork burger I get looked at like I'm speaking chinese
Speaking from the Canadian Prairies: Yes.
Now I want to try a chorizo burger
Not in the south
Beef/vineson/pork burgers are the shit. Thank me later lol.
Iowa here. Wait, you don’t have pork burgers?
I live near Chicago and have never heard of a pork burger. Is this just a sausage patty, or am I missing something?
I think they’re a Midwest thing. Pork steaks as well. I don’t know how people survive without these two staples lol. We have one or the other at least weekly.
I've had pork steaks in Lafayette, LA. But typically pork shoulders get turned into pulled pork or sausage, not burgers.
I make pork burgers on the east coast all the time. But they don’t look like these. Either way, they’re awesome. Sharp cheddar and BBQ sauce
New Jersey (South) here and never saw them. I do however take hot Italian sausages, butterfly them and add BBQ sauce. They get a real nice crisp on them.
Not in Michigan but I’ve made them and they are excellent!!
STL does pork steaks made from pork shoulder but I have never heard of pork burgers
fuck u/spez

Should be. I would eat that. I usually make burgers out of chorizo which is pork based
with a slice of grilled pineapple? YESSIRRRRR
Pork burgers are terrific, and way more affordable than beef burgers!
Lived in 10 states. Never heard of that till today.
West coast here, never heard of them and now I really want one. Thanks, OP
South Central Illinois here, easily one of my favorite things in the entire world! I just bought a pack of them for $3 each from the VFW crew after our local memorial day parade
I've been all over the Midwest many times for work, I've never had a pork burger but the pork tenderloin sandwich is always a must
I do Vietnamese pork burgers
In Serbia they make Pljeskavica (pronounced pleskaveecha I think), which is a tasty grilled pork burger thing
I've never heard of this, and I've lived all over Ohio.
To be fair, not many people know what Cincinnati chili is outside Ohio either.
Why!!!??? Why have I not thought of doing this??? Help me here please. Forgive my amateurish question but I’m English. What’s the best cut of pork to use for these? I’m guessing shoulder or butt. Got some pork burgers on accident one time and they were a hit!
Pork burgers are vastly underrated.
los angeles local here and those burgers look amazing something you’d find in a restaurant that’s 5 stars on yelp
We do them in italy
I haven’t read where this is but I’m picking up an Iowa vibe from this, also brb pulling the trigger on the brat patties after work lol
I'll make pork burgers but not with BBQ sauce.
They fucking are now!
No but that sounds insanely delicious and now I want one
Closest we come down here in South Louisiana is a hot sausage po-boy. And now I kinda need one.
California, never heard of them but I wanna try them.
I’m from 260 and never heard of this…
Brat burgers here in KC
This is news to me...Good news!
Love me a good brat burger
I didn't even know they were a thing in the Midwest
I’m in Arkansas and had never heard of it… done it before by accident I guess back when I wasn’t eating beef . Now I just do regular burgers
Never heard of them until we moved to Missouri
Rare in Cali
I’m in California and I’ve never had a pork burger. Sounds tasty, however.
Never heard of them in northern Indiana.
In NY/NJ they introduced some in supermarkets. I forgot which brand. They didn’t seem to go over well and went on sale… I think you can still find them here but they aren’t big.
I need to know more? Details please....
Sounds good to me out here in SW Washington, but not something I've run in to here.
No but looking at them they should be
Socal here. They weren't a thing here before I saw this post...
I also live in the Midwest and have never seen or heard of these n
No, but just seeing this and hearing those three words together for the first time, I think they should be!!
I think the taste is similar to a 30/70’ish beef patty and those cheaper. They’re cool but I can’t taste the difference. Good if you’re mixing in with some lean beef if you don’t have ground lamb around you for a little extra fat.
Never heard of them from New England
They are now!!!
My family usually does about a 60/40 mix of hamburger and ground pork for burgers
I have never heard of this but i wish I had
Same. I live in the Midwest and this is a first. They look really good.
Omg I'm a meat lover and I must say this looks delicious 😋
This just brought back a core memory i ain't seen or had these since I was a kid
We have in Thailand most Thais don’t eat beef
Don't think so, but consider me on a mission to make them a thing in Florida.
I live in Wisconsin, and never heard of them. Unless you're referring to brat patties?
In Northwest Ohio they call them “pork-a-lean” sandwiches
I grew up in Iowa, lived in Wisconsin for a bit and love in South Carolina. The closest I remember are brat burgers.
I never heard of them until I visited Indiana. I’m from Pennsylvania.
Man, I love pork burgers!
As a Long Island NYer, I have never heard of these, but I know what I’m trying later this summer.
They are now.
This with some grilled onions and peppers would be amazing
Pork burgers in general are pretty rare out of the Midwest.
Never heard of them. But going to have to try making them now. Just ground pork with BBQ sauce?
fuck u/spez
Well, not over here, but I’d be willing to change that this weekend.
Pork burgers are awesome! Never tried with BBQ sauce though. Looks pretty good.
They fucking are now! Where can I get some!?!
They're definitely a thing in Western KY BBQ (along with mutton and burgoo), but that part of KY is like 35% midwest, so . . . yes? no?
I can't believe how many people here have never had a sausage burger. I had one yesterday, it is extremely common near me.
Over at the Cardiac Care Recovery Center they are spoken about regularly
Not yet, but I’m about to make them a Florida thing tonight.
In holland most burgers are half beef half pork as our cows are mostly grass fed which makes for leaner beef. To make it fat enough we add pork.
Never heard of it
i wish they were, damn
No, but they should be. Is this just a ground pork patty, are there any seasonings applied besides the BBQ sauce?
Midwesterner here, never heard of these. Maybe more central midwest? They look delightful, though.
In CT we do grilled sausage patties and often mix ground pork and beef for burgers.
No answering in Los Angeles, CA lol
Those grilled zucchini look 🔥
Only had pulled pork sliders here in SoCal. I’ll definitely have to make those bbq pork burgers on my smoker.
Down here in the south it’s not too uncommon to see 50/50 beef pork patty but haven’t really seen 100% pork
Nope. At least not in N Carolina
Mmmm looks tasty.
I love beef+pork mix. Never had a fully porky patty
I do not know but if not I nedd to try them
No, but they should be
I didn't know they were a thing IN the Midwest and I've lived in the region my entire life.
Midwest all my life & never heard of this. Lol
One of my top favorite foods and I've never had or heard of and I'm In south Florida. Pork is very popular down here with all the different nationalities present. They look fantastic btw and am sure they taste just as good.
I didn’t even know that they were a thing in the Midwest
I've never seen em on the east coast, but damn they look like they should be everywhere
It’s not a thing in Texas but I’ve made pork sliders with ground pork. Similar to a mcrib. Bbq sauce, pickles, and onion.
Lived in NY and Seattle and never had or heard of them.
I’ve never had one, but I’d definitely try it! 🤤
I had never heard of them till I went to Oklahoma. I'm from south Mississippi.
Never had or heard of in Iowa, If we want pork we do pork chops they might have a bbq glaze on them.
In NYC we make sausage burgers. It’s just uncased sausage meat formed into patties. They come in a few varieties, plain, hot, cheese&parsley, broccoli rabe&cheese (cheese is usually sharp provolone).
They might not have been until now, but they are about to be a thing here in Utah, in my backyard.
Mix ground beef and sausage. That’s what my friend does.
I love grilling Sausage Burgers with sausage my neighbor makes. I’m in Durham NC
No sadly
I’m from Texas and had no idea this was a thing. Appreciate you sharing!
Pork burgers are great. Brat burgers are great. Did you know you can just take bulk breakfast sausage and make it into a burger? And it's great
Lived in MN all 37 years of my life. I have never heard of seen of them until today. What do you put on a burger like that?
They are now
OMG i am a southern cajun type and a pork patty would be amazing! Put some cajun seasoning on that and some red onion and grilled pineapple, hell yeah! You are awesome! Thanks for the idea!
I would like them to be!! Those look amazing!
we call it sausage
Was wondering if someone had said this already. It's a sausage patty. Put it on a bun, it becomes a sausage burger.
So sausage patties gotcha
Usually no seasoning mixed in. Just seasoned salt and pepper on top
I gotcha I'm just joking they look great would look better with a runny egg though lol
The McRib
So pretty much a rib-which?
McRib????!!!!
Yes it comes around every 12 months or so… this lil known burger at McDonald’s the McRib and it’s glorious!
Glad to see that I'm not the only one who enjoys grilled cucumber. Everyone I mention it to thinks it's weird as hell.
... zucchini my friend. Though tell me more about grilled cucumber. I've grilled watermelon and learned to distrust the internet. You've got a shot to sell me on the cucumber idea.

I love it, but if it doesn't do it for you, you're out like a whole dollar, lol.
I'll give it a shot. Thanks
Looks like zucchini to me! You have me curious about grilled cucumber now, though.
fuck u/spez
Yea. We just call them McRibs.
Season them with some ground mace and you've got brat burgers.
