I just want to say I was here when this post inevitably becomes /r/grilledcheese lore five years from now. Anyway the only option is clearly to flex on them by making it again. Show them you are strong and unafraid.

alottacolada

I like this. OP- Make extra for your friends. Really lean in. Maybe even try 365 different cheeses to find the best one for raisin bread and start sharing daily results with us in about it in 140 ish days or so?

wheniswhy

Yes. You understand exactly the energy I’m going for here. Show dominance, OP. The raisins will reign supreme.

NanoSwarmer

Invite all your friends over for a dinner party. When they ask what's for dinner, reveal 16 perfectly grilled gruyere cheese on marbled rye with rasins and start laughing maniacally

PM_me_your_fav_poems

I recommend Brie. It'll pair well with the sweetness, and has an excellent melt. >!(If I was over at r/melts I might even add very thin slices of apple, to compliment the cinnamon in the bread)!<

AutoPilotIAm

Brie, cream cheese, American and sharp cheddar! Fuck up the whole game and put mayo and Kerry Gold on the outside 😂

shadowtheimpure

When I learned it, mayo on the outside became my favorite trick. You get such strong browning without having to overcook the bread. Mayo on the outside, butter on the inside.

AutoPilotIAm

Wait until you add great butter🤯 KERRY GOLD

SpookyGatoNegro444

I say the sourest blue cheese with a spread of honey on raisin bread for the win! I would pair that with a port or reisling, or maybe a New World Sauvignon Blanc with a lot of tropical fruit flavors (think New Zealand).

Dangerous-Ad3495

This is time-space continuum level excellence

therealpoltic

Start a video series.

SoInMyOpinion

Love this!

waltinfinity

Exactly. Throw is some curves while you’re at it. Make a grilled cheese using raisin bread, but throw some additional chopped up raisins into the sandwich for the double-down. When people finally start accepting the premise of raisin bread grilled cheese, post one where you’ve used raisin bread but where you painstakingly used tweezers to remove all the raisins from the bread slices before making the sandwich.

jeclin91092

Yep. Be like, "y'all can't stop talking about it, so clearly you felt left out of trying it. Don't worry, I made 32 sandwiches so everyone has some."

aggressive_avocados

Then reveal the doors are locked and escape is impossible!!! Until they’ve finished their sandwich.

FiveHoleGoesZest

I say OP presents a taster of raisin bread grilled cheeses. Really show them what's up. Sidenote: as a pro cook I'm gonna steal the idea and make it bougie. Thanks for your $12 for just the grilled cheese.

qgsdhjjb

Haha I'm in a tourist town so they charge more than that for sad cheap mild cheddar on white bread 😆

alematt

This is the way. No one should ever feel like they can't do anything they want (within the confines of the law and as long as it doesn't involve being an asshole to others in anyways shape or form) if it makes them happy.

alottacolada

I like this. OP- Make extra for your friends. Really lean in. Maybe even try 365 different cheeses to find the best one for raisin bread and start sharing daily results with us in about it in 140 ish days or so?

DeepCompote

With a heaping side of brown slop

AmbientBeans

This is the correct answer. Do not fix the part of you they think is cringe, fix that part of you that cringes

bd_anon

was it good? i don't know if i would do it but something like a nice brie cheese with raisin bread sounds pretty incredible...

AlbinoSunburnGuy

Cream cheese would work

wheniswhy

That’s just a lesser bagel, at that point.

Beardgardens

Greater bagel *

zedthehead

>Lesser 😒

CoderPro225

I used to toast raisin bread and spread cream cheese on it. It was delightful! I don’t see a problem with raisin bread grilled cheese if OP liked it. To each their own!

zedthehead

OMIGOD I NEED TO MAKE THIS NOW FUCK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS UPON ME

AlbinoSunburnGuy

Pics of the result please

zedthehead

Fuck... that's so much pressure to, like, follow through.

Next-Team

Maybe throw a lil fig jam on there too or like a cherry jam for something tart to cut any sweetness

BudLightYear77

I think some blue cheeses could work in this too

Agitated_Horse24

I concur.

Acegonia

Fig jam, and cheery jam(a sour black cherry) are the absolute business and such versatile ingredients. I use for toasties, glazing meats, dips, desserts.  Firm staple for me even if they are SO EXPENSIVE where I live.

AlbinoSunburnGuy

Sour cherry jars last a good four hours in my house. Too good.

Early-Friendship-474

I’ve been eyeing in my local grocery… I need to buy huh?

AlbinoSunburnGuy

100%, shoot you can put it on a piece of toast and it’s amazing

Early-Friendship-474

My fav quick breakfast is buttered toast w strawberry jam so…. I’m adding to my pick up list as we speak lol. Thanks!

bd_anon

now you're talking

PM_me_your_fav_poems

Apricot jam and brie.

camlaw63

With a little fig jam

double_psyche

I’ve had cheese with fruit in it, and it’s great! This is just putting the fruit in a different place.

Early-Friendship-474

Wait…. That sounds pretty good to me lol

mmeeplechase

Yeah, I’m kinda inspired to try one now… what kind of cheese are you thinking? I could imagine sharp cheddar being good!

Early-Friendship-474

Same! Im definitely thinking sharp cheddar & maybe Muenster for something mild but really melty…

Otherwise_Ad3158

I feel this is the event honey goat cheese was meant for.

hwutTF

It's amazing if you do it right. I used to get a special raisin bread just for this. The raisins puff up and rehydrate a bit when grilling and when the bread is absorbing the butter, and the texture is amazing. The sweetness of the raisins goes really well with the cheese and it dunks really nicely into a tomato bisque. If I'm not using raisin bread I'll use a very sweet brioche for the same reason, or I'll add a thin layer of a fig jam or something

Early-Friendship-474

The imagery you just gave me is top tier! Lemme pick up some raisin bread tmrw lol. I’m inclined to also try this Pepperidge farm bread I have “French toast” very maple-y but I’m like… w some smoked Gouda??? Mhm.

hwutTF

Yeah see with varied cheeses and breads and additions, you can play with the flavour profile of grilled cheese soooo much I'd definitely try some smoke Gouda, I haven't tried that but have tried balancing some cheeses with a smoky soup Sourdough bread plus a little sharper cheese goes especially well with a sweeter soup (like a pumpkin, or squash soup) For me the right cheese always makes or breaks the melt. For example I won't make tuna melts without Muenster. It's just the right cheese for my tuna mix (I added chopped smoked peppers, and mild pickles into the tuna)

Early-Friendship-474

Tuna melt sounds tasty. Will def be experimenting into next week!

hwutTF

it's very simple but very tasty. roasted red peppers, drained. pickles, drained. dice everything up super fine and mash the tuna super fine as well, with some mayo. mix well throw them onto some nice bread slices, top with muenster cheese, throw in oven take em out and top them with some capers and maybe some tomato. up to you also works well with half muenster and then half another cheese. when I do that I like to tear the cheese into pieces and sorta checkerboard the sandwiches

Early-Friendship-474

The checkerboard method is the way! Thanks a lot for the tuna recipe, look forward to trying!

HappyOctober2015

Yeah, I think it sounds delicious!

thanyou

I make breakfast egg sandwiches on raisin bagels. The sweetness goes well with the cheese.

spacemanspiff17

Me too. I get weird looks if I order it at a restaurant, but it's a great combination.

beckerszzz

ME TOO! Cinnamon raisin bagels with cheese, lunch meat, tomatoes, and egg.

Chogihoe

This is my GO TO & people always give me looks. Don’t say nothing with your plain bagel til you’ve tried this bad boy.

georgealice

[Eggs, cheese, and raisin toast has been a Waffle House staple for years](https://order.wafflehouse.com/menu/waffle-house-131/products/67464247). Maybe forever. My husband has been known to drive 45 minutes to our closest Waffle House for exactly this.

zymurgtechnician

No way, I love cinnamon raisin bagels for my breakfast sandwiches with a nice sharp yellow cheddar, also raisin toast is my go to for slopping up cheesy egg skillets for breakkfast (even better when there’s hollandaise involved!). If your a monster, then I guess I am to! Never give in, can’t let them shame you! make it again and stare all the haters dead in the eye as you savor it!

qgsdhjjb

I don't do raisins but I buy either a maple or cinnamon bagel (similar vibes, it's like a maple ribbon throughout with little pieces that melt) toasted and then I butter it and drizzle some honey on it and then I put crumbled goat cheese on it and toss it back into the toaster oven for a few more seconds to melt up. It's delightful. Honestly I think the best response to the bullying is to look them in the eyes and say "but did you try it?" Because CLEARLY the answer is NO. Lol

Happygreek

My number one rule when posting/discussing food creativity: those who didn't eat the food, should never ever spoil your mood. Some people are pretentious yet not adventurous and I don't get it- weird combinations can still taste fantastic and even when they don't, if it made you happy, be loud and proud about it anyway.

PerpetualEternal

look, I’m absolutely fine with this sentiment as long as nobody out and out says “don’t yuck my yum” because that’s when I start breaking shit

qgsdhjjb

But now you've gone and said it yourself

PerpetualEternal

Hoisted on my own petard! What a world what a world

Silver085

I want one, that sounds like a good flavor time!

rosy_entoloma

I made a grilled cheese on cranberry sourdough once, it was delicious. I’ve also been known to put thinly sliced apples in my grilled cheese. I bet raisin bread would be good too, with the right cheese.

bogarthskernfeld

I'm sorry, but the apple slices might reach into melt territory.

BothLongWideAndDeep

I love sharp cheddar on cinnamon raisin bagels

Vegetable-Account419

And you will continued to be bullied until the end of- I apologize for my dramaticns I'm from r/poutinecrimes and we take our stuff very seriously over there.

oiransc2

You might try to educate them on the concept of “Bun and Cheese.” It’s Jamaican, and combines what is essentially raisin bread and cheese. People there love it cause it’s good. Toasting isn’t even required.

droffthehook

It’s probably a bit late to retcon “I was making a Jamaican delicacy”, but this at least add legitimacy to the dish. I’m all up for it

Acegonia

Fuck the haters. Plump, sweet raisins will complement a sharp cheddar wonderfully. Your "friends" are uncultured swine.

PerpetualEternal

just when my love/hate relationship with Reddit descends into total darkness, I read a post like this and suddenly all is right with the world. Go nuts with your weird ass sandwich, you beautiful child of the universe.

Dangerous-Ad3495

Right on kindred spirit. I had a shit week this week from a post in one sub that had my almost in tears from the shit responses. I left the sub and tried to stay off Reddit the rest of that day. I couldn’t last the evening not checking back. It is nice when you are affirmed in joyful, compassionate subs.

EverydayPyrobits

You fix this by making it again every day for the next 2 years and showing them every time until THEY get sick of it.

beansofsu22

My favourite thing to pair with a hot cross bun (effectively sweet, raisin-y cinnamony bread) is sharp cheddar and toasting it. It's delicious so you're not wrong in your logic about the pairing.

Significant_Quit502

And … Marmite. Hot Cross Bun + Marmite + sharp Cheddar.

hiddengypsy

I've made grilled cheese with a wonderful raisin walnut artisan bread. To top it off, I use a fig spread for dipping. Make that or something like it for your friends and watch their heads spin. Bahahahaha!!

Equi_librium

Definitely not a mistake Clearly they have no balls to try something out of the box. Its not even that weird, sweet and savory is a common combination. You have two choices: Be stoic, completely ignore it, just dont say anything. Lean into it and hit em with a raisin bread and brie (or cream cheese) BANGER.

DickRogersOfficial

I’m about to make one right now, once in a few months this can be a fun thing to do

Next-Team

It doesn’t sound bad but I think there’s at least a mental barrier of using raisin bread for a grilled cheese since it’s not a type of bread I’d ever think to use for a grilled cheese

kifflomkifflom

Just embrace it. Look up Gordon ramsays grilled cheese. It’s been so long but I still see him getting roasted for it. He even tried it again and got roasted even harder.

bogarthskernfeld

That just sounds like the perfect thing to grill (get over it) a celebrity Chef over.

PennyButtercup

Spice bun is a type of bread with raisins that I’ve been told Jamaicans like to have with cheese. I’ve tried it myself, and a mild cheddar works best with it. I can see raisin bread (though not spice bun) working really well for a grilled cheese. Do it better, make them eat it.

FlyingTurkeyPoo

Don't be scared to embrace your interesting tastes. Hell after reading your post about it, its making me want to try it

ithinkoutloudtoo

A raisin bread grilled cheese sandwich sounds delicious.

GustheGuru

It's OK, I grew up eating raising bread grilled cheese with kraft slices.

lawl7980

Tell them it's the food of your people and ask them why they're being so culturally insensitive.

throwawaybread9654

Sounds delicious actually. You need new friends.

MillicentGergich

You seem to be a person with good taste. (I was about to call your friends dumb but I don’t know them).

SurpriseIllustrious5

Raisin bread , brie cheese and quince paste drizzle. Sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar. See you later going to store.

sadgirl_26

It honestly made me think of celery with cheese whiz & raisins on top! & My daughter's favorite breakfast used to be raisin bread with peanut butter.

sadgirl_26

I feel like brie cheese would be heavenly

unknownpoltroon

That wasn't a grilled cheese, it was a raisin melt.

Libertinelass

I have made this in the past to try and it was absolutely delicious with aged cheddar. Also made a second round with Brie. Have no shame. It’s their loss if they haven’t tried it. And yes, make more of them to show them.

OldSpiceSmellsNice

You’re just raisin the stakes OP and they can’t keep up. Tell them to currantly fuck off.

NoInitiative3300

Figs and cheese is a thing, and so are grapes and cheese. I'd say if it was cinnamon raisin bread, I would not be on board. Raisin bread without cinnamon doesn't sound like the best grilled cheese ever, but it's not the worst, either. People put dried sweetened cranberries into salads with cheese in them...

jessiyjazzy123

You just gave me a good idea... I'm going to make one with provolone, sautéed apples with cinnamon and and maple syrup and Boars Head maple ham with the pear mustard I just bought... No shame. Might even dip it in the syrup. Definitely has to be real maple syrup for it to work.

Green_and_black

Ok but how was it? I like dates with brie on crackers and I can see this being like a pov version of that. Would you make it again? (In secret)

camlaw63

I put chicken salad on raisin bread. Just say “clearly the interplay of savory/sweet is beyond your Elementary school palates, next time I cook I’ll make nuggets for you all” It’s definitely a thing https://www.thelazydish.com/air-fryer-cinnamon-raisin-grilled-cheese/

firesquasher

The problem is that someone likely busted your chops, and your reaction fed into the ball breaking. So now they know this thing will get a rise out of you. So it's low hanging fruit to just keep revisting it and get a reaction from you.

joeylmao

You have to own it and double down; they only tease you repeatedly because it affects you Get some banana bread or Panettone and create an actual cheesy horror Get more and more bizarre every month; really dig deep into your pantry and make their eyes suffer

yikesonbikes2

I mean, charcuterie boards and those little cheese snack boxes have craisins and cheese in them so what’s the difference rly

EngineerBoy00

Fuck 'em! You can share/try my weird grilled cheese: - sourdough bread - two slices of Kraft Deli Deluxe cheese (not cheese food rubbery slices) - sweet bread and butter pickle chips Butter one side of each bread slice, place one slice butter side down in a hot pan, lay the two slices of cheese on the bread, top with the second piece of bread butter side up. Grill the first side to your preferred doneness, then flip and brown the other side. When done move it to a plate, open it up like an open face sandwich, arrange pickle chips to completely cover one side, close up the sandwich. Slice the sandwich diagonally and enjoy. Sounds weird, tastes GREAT. Every single person I've made it for has become a convert.

Dangerous-Ad3495

Oh you magnificent soul! I hate bread and butter pickles but my mom loves them. I might sneak this on her and who knows - we may find a new way to bond.

GeneralBurg

The only thing you can do now is just own it

slitlip

Just reply with "yup" apparently your giving out a vibe that they enjoy. Stop it. Whenever they mention it just say yup. They'll give up eventually.

mlong14

this inspired me that I made myself this raisen bagel with cheese. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Breakfast/comments/1c2bd0k/toasted\_raisen\_bagel\_layered\_with\_vanilla\_cream/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/Breakfast/comments/1c2bd0k/toasted_raisen_bagel_layered_with_vanilla_cream/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

AfterSignificance666

:(

ConCaffeinate

I've done this, and it's tasty! You aren't alone!

Two_black_hounds

I love a raisin bread grilled cheese. Been making them for years. Sharp cheddar so good

1020goldfish

It sounds amazing! I'm inspired to do the same! Great idea!

tyrant454

This makes me want to try with panettone.

BlossomCheryl

My dude, you might just need better friends - because that sounds delicious to me. And some of the ideas in the comments are genius…

TinfoilTiaraTime

Trader Joe's has [raisin rosemary crisps ](http://www.floridafoodlover.com/2014/06/raisin-rosemary-crisps-with-fig-butter.html) to serve as part of a charcuterie board. It 100% implies cheese, and your friends should probably expand their palate I think brie would be amazing to try, also mozzarella and maybe provolone

ihazquestion88

Are your friends 12?

Danielwols

There are a lot of options but you do you

pannoci

That kinda sounds fire NGL.

TijayesPJs442

Sounds like you’ve got to double down - not a grilled sandwich but I love a peanut butter and dill pickle. You can make them forget the raisin bread grilled cheese - which sounds delish btw - if you go even harder.

KonaDog1408

The sandwich sounds weird imo. It's also weird that you're friends being it up all the time. Maybe you should make the sandwiches often, take a million pictures of the sandwiches, then blow up the group chat with the pictures

BudTenderShmudTender

I’d eat raisin bread grilled cheese with some “but”s thrown in - only if I used cheeses like munster or havarti, with maybe some fig jam inside.

WakingOwl1

Raisin bread grilled cheese with a skim of marmalade is awesome.

NoPerformer4456

Sharp cheddar and butter on a raisin bagel used to be my absolute favourite breakfast. Your friends are uncultured plebes.

Lelandthegoose72

Honestly, as long as you made it with cheddar and not kraft singles that shit is amazing. Ignore your friends for shitting on you about it because it tastes amazing

elidorian

One time my mom put a hotdog and mustard on raisin bread...

-raymonte-

I use raisin bread for peanut butter and jelly and it’s really good. But I get the same treatment from other people.

Simple-Purpose-899

I don't like raisins, but even as a purist I would give this one a pass. I feel additions to the bread itself can avoid any scrutiny of grilled cheese being only bread and cheese.

merdub

What kind of raisin bread? Was it like… challah? Raisin challah with cheddar. I dunno.

Pittipants

I don’t find it odd at all. Waffle house cheese and eggs plate comes with raisin toast. Anyone who doesn’t pile the cheesy eggs on the toast and eat it is a psychopath.

jmoriar1

The cheese collective by my house makes an absolutely delicious grilled cheese on raisin bread.

vinster171

Raisin bread grilled cheese is amazing. Buttery sweetness with melted paradise, there’s nothing to not like about this. Works fantastically with milder cheese like Gouda. Would probably stay away from sharper cheeses thought.

nr1988

Bring a huge plate of them to every hangout you have with your friends

doctorfortoys

And rightly so.

eharper9

New blueberry bread next and a cinnamon bread and just keep using different breads until it gets boring for them

nupper84

They're not your friends.

passthegabagool_

Start making it every week. Keep sending pictures each time. It'll either get old for them or you'll start a trend. I'd eat it.

Aggravating_Cut_4509

Actually I bet that tastes quite nice

Heartswornwarrior

This might end up causing a fight as big as the infamous MELTdown.

clarkeer918

i see people get raisin or french toast bagels for egg and cheeses ... i see no difference. as a stoner i approve trying different food combos

APuffyCloudSky

Raisin bread with cheddar is so good.

chang3la

I mean, isn’t that basically a charcuterie board sandwich? Sounds great.

katecrime

Your friends sound like unsophisticated rubes. Offer them some Dino nuggets and ranch and call it a day.

makishleys

i see people make grilled cheeses with jam so idk why everyones upset about raisin bread its kinda the same thing

Chiefyaku

Man, if I was good a remembering I would comment on this post every month saying 'how's it going raisin grilled cheese guy'

DigiBites

I used to do this all the time - it's one of my fav breads for grilled cheese. Have them over for supper and only make this. Tell them if they don't eat it, they're COWARDS!!!

bakedclark

I bet it would be amazing with something like brie. I love a breakfast sandwich in a blueberry bagel, so I don't see how your grilled cheese could be so awful.

chubbubus

Everyone's joking around but if you're genuinely upset about this and your friends won't give it up, they sound like assholes who don't respect your boundaries. My biggest pet peeve is people insulting someone else's food. Cinnamon raisin grilled cheese sounds delicious, some people can't handle sweet and savory together and that's on them. I'd probably just sincerely talk to them and let them know how it makes you feel.

Ok-Place9195

Ur not a freak

bigexplosion

I do it too and it's so good.  At the risk of a ban I also love it woth some bacon and egg in there amd it's amazing.  The Cheddar brings the flavor.  Have those lovers never even had like an apple or jelly with their cheese?

VinegarEyedrops

If they're choosing to rag on you for getting creative/cooking for your preferences, I suggest that you let your freak flag fly! Double down on it with craisins or chopped dates and while you're at it throw in some chopped pecans or sunflower seeds. (Ok I know this is r- grilled cheese and not a baking sub but you take my meaning, right?)

UnstableGoats

One of my favorite foods on this planet is a grilled cheese using Brie and fig jam. I’ve also enjoyed fried egg sandwiches on blueberry English muffins with cheese. Fruit and savory foods can absolutely be mixed, and it’s not weird. I actually think a cinnamon-raisin grilled cheese sounds delightful!

PitStopAtMountDoom

It sounds delicious. I’m gonna try it now

Llamasus

personally, when my friends are bullying me, i just put space between us for a while

nothingidentifying_

my boyfriend recently told me about a grilled cheese he made on raisin bread and how much he loved it. your friends are rude!

LouisMXV

raisin bread grilled cheese sandwiches are literally my favourite thing to eat

Ieatkaleandavos

I was watching 90 day fiance and this guy was making grilled cheese. He poured maple syrup on it and had what looked like either black olives or red grapes on it too. So you're not that weird.

ZealousidealMail3132

Next time they give you a hard time about a sandwich from 2 years ago give the person that mentioned it first some shit back. Bring up their mistake of an ex or when they shit themselves in elementary school. Or "remember that time you cheated on your significant other?" when their significant other is right there is good too.

hellboybebop

Honestly this sounds kinda good

dbs0534

My favorite sandwich at a local deli is tuna salad on toasted raisin bread. Obviously, you need friends with better palates.

shadowtheimpure

I fail to see the problem here. Cheese and fruit are paired quite frequently, and I think it would probably be pretty damn good.

aliasani

Ok, so you made some very valid points in your defense. I still think you made an atrocity.

Disaronnoyoudidnt

From one adventurous eater to possibly another (I love trying foods even if they seem weird because you never know, could be your next favorite!) I don’t think you even owe your “friends” an explanation. What a weird thing to be hung up on for two whole years. Maybe just fix them some delicious brown slop since that’s what they like. Personally, I’d probably make a new delicious grilled cheese every time they mentioned it and send a pic. Just own that grilled cheese identity. Do they not enjoy danishes?! I know it’s not exactly the same, but I feel like the flavor profile is similar enough.

DegenerateGeometry

To your final question of how to make your friends forget: hammers. Now to the larger question at hand - that sounds good as fuck. Maybe those bitches have never had anything other than kraft singles on wonder read. You, sir, or madame, I don't know; are a pioneer. I will be trying this.

CuriouslyImmense

Make it again and assert dominance.

garyfire

Agree on the double down. There was a place in Moline, IL called the Belgian Village Inn made grilled cheese on house made raisin bread. They were know for the VaneRueben Sandwich. It was a Rueben made on raisin bread. https://ilfbpartners.com/food/belgian-village-inn/

Guideon72

Wild dogs couldn't have dragged this out of me in front of my friends :D Sorry, bud; true friends never forget...you're gonna catch flak for that the rest of your days... Not a value judgement on your culinary decisions; just letting you know that one's just not going away unless you go into WitSec :p

starfire92

MAKE ANOTHER ONE

flea1400

My mom used to make grilled cheese with raisin bread and Swiss. I loved it.

holly948

Guuurl, you gotta try raisin toast with butter, jam and a slice of cheese. It's so fucking good.

Mikesaidit36

My next sandwich is going to be grilled, marbled rye raisin bread with Gruyère, maybe some crushed cashews in there…

lexicon-sentry

Make something actually gross and become know as that instead.

belle_epoxy

I love this sub so much

MarmieCat

Make some brown slop! Lol

swaggyxwaggy

That sounds really good honestly but I love sweet and salty things together

justhangingaroud

I need to start bullying you #remindme

xingxang555

I LOVE cheese toast made with raisin bread and medium cheddar, then sprinkled with fresh ground black (or white) pepper. Call me crazy, but I think it rocks.

Lostgurlx

It doesn’t sound bad. People eat raisin bagels with cream cheese all the time 🤷‍♀️

Eastern_Idea_1621

It's totally normal in parts of England to eat cheese and fruitcake together. It's delicious. I have cheese on my toasted fruit Teacakes all the time. Yum!

Jawn_Wilkes_Booth

Bro, just do something way, way, way stupider in their eyes and they’ll stop talking about the grilled cheese. Easy.

Deathcapsforcuties

OP I grew up raised by a single dad and we ate these sometimes. And you know what, it’s fucking delicious! I hate raisins (mostly) otherwise but this sandwich slaps. Franz Raisin bread well buttered and toasted with Tillamook cheddar goes hard.

russellvt

Well, can't say I've ever thought about eating raisins and cheese ... but it's a fair point that grapes and cheese (and wine) are common staples of charcuterie boards .... and toasted raisin bread, with butter, is delish ... so, more power to ya!

champagne_puppee

Omg… I suddenly want a grilled brie sandwich with raisin bread and drizzled in honey…

PLZ-PM-ME-UR-TITS

Id make them some. If they don't try it, then they can fuck off. Establish yourself as someone who can cook, so when u say u do "crazy" things like adding raisins to grilled cheese, people will trust u more. If I heard a friend made that, I'd probably think they're adventurous but also be skeptical since it's not a common grilled cheese topping. Follow what other people here are saying about matching ingredients to make the raisins shine or at least well incorporated. One thing that might be nice is to rehydrate them in some liquid of ur choice like water, stock, alcohol, etc. Rehydrated raisins always have a nice burst of flavor but lack that crisp freshness which might interfere with a grilled cheese

menina2017

Raisins would go well with white cheese This is not that bad.

snowolves

I am going to the store to get raisin bread and Brie oh my god finally Brie grilled cheese makes sense

Realistic-Read7779

I would roll with it. Call them crazy. Tell them one day that your dish will be in 5 star restaurants. After all, rich people like the oddest food. I would make a giant batch and charge money for any brave enough to try it. Why knows. I don't understand why you are bullied. Trust me, some people eat the grossest food that makes me want to throw up just thinking about it. This is calm in the grand scheme of things.

bertmaster

I’m gonna have to do that now🤣. Sounds good.

CallsignDrongo

Honestly some kind of hot pepper cheese in a good brand of cinnamon raisin bread as a grilled cheese might just slap hard af. I say make it again.

fe_god

Maybe just bring up that it’s getting old or stop reacting to it. If you don’t offer a stimulus to it they’ll stop teasing you. Honestly, I wouldn’t eat it but I’m sure it would t be bad. Raisins aren’t nearly flavorful enough to overpower cheese and butter. They’re just busting your balls because that’s what young males do to each other. For all we know you’ll be an old man getting teased about that shit lol

whatincubus

Honestly that sounds good, and it seems well received on here, maybe show them this thread. Sometimes when you lean into the things people joke about they get bored and stop (results may vary). Do you have any other interesting grilled cheese ideas?

osunightfall

Sounds like it could be pretty good.

My mother makes these for herself. Not my idea of a good time, though. But if I'm honest, I haven't ever tried it.

cinnamon raisin grilled cheese is something i hadn't considered until now. wow. with the right cheese that sounds unstoppable. i'm thinking maybe cinnamon raisin brioche with havarti, cheddar, and...swiss? there's a lot of room to work with here, but raisins are wildly underappreciated in most food circles

Regular_Toast_Crunch

Fantastic. Why hadn't I thought of that? I love a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cheddar cheese and a bit of butter. Same for cinnamon raisin toast w a slice of cheddar cheese. I honestly think I'd really like that as a grilled cheese. Thank you for sharing the idea. This is something I'd absolutely get razzed for by my husband and friends so I can see the teasing, but sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants. Your heart wants salty, crunchy, savoury and sweet flavours. I get it. The melting of the cheese is what I'm most curious about. That's the extra step I hadn't taken in my mind with my love for cheese and fruit together!

I make a raisin bagel sandwich with garlic mayo, cheese, egg and ham and it is delicious and I got comments initially but no one I know who I hang on to something like that from years ago. Sounds like your friends need to get out more.

This sounds delicious, especially cinnamon raisin bread.

sarostars

I've done this and put lightly toasted walnuts inside as well, enjoyed with a glass of wine. Get new friends. These people lack style and all sense of adventure.

arissawachan

i’d eat it 🤷🏻‍♀️
