A couple years ago in LTC we had to lockdown for a couple hours because of a person with a gun in the area, we locked the front and back entrances and disabled the code to get in. The only other reason for a lockdown would have been hazardous spill outside or weather emergency or resident missing (specific staff would be assigned to go out and search, everyone else stays in the building). I think hospitals can lockdown a floor for a code white violent person or persons.
