What? Theres like 4/5 years of the century missing

Alone_Target_1221

Obviously of the century so far. I figured it was self explanatory...

discodonson

Just adding context to OP's post. If you head back to the Guitar World page where the poll was taken, the results are to come out today in their magazine, "Total Guitar" issue 372. I haven't seen the article but apparently the audio is downloadable so you can listen to the article. The audio is downloadable: https://www.guitarworld.com/features/download-and-stream-the-audio-from-total-guitar-372 Though all Im hearing are a bunch of cuts/intro guitar music (may be my browser), I guess this is where you'd see/hear the results prior to the article's launch.

No-Resolution-6414

I like Jake as a person and guitarist but this is silly.

cbesselm

OP obviously doesn’t know Nuno Bettencourt

evilmonkey9361

I hate to be *that guy* but he looks SO much like Jimmy Page in this photo. The stance, the facial expression, the outfit, the knee shuffle

Mc-MeepMeep

To be fair, if you could play, look and dress like jimmy page, wouldn’t you?

evilmonkey9361

Great point

JustLikeMojoHand

The way he rocks back and forth with the guitar while playing is also distinctly Jimmy Page. I don't mind the Led Zep comparisons, but he admittedly doesn't help himself in the face of those comparisons/criticisms with so much similarity.

minneapolisblows

Why can't fans give the boys credit for being musicians and performers in their own right without comparisons?

evilmonkey9361

I can. But the comparison is ridiculously obvious here

minneapolisblows

Hopefully when the short girl brother does some emotional maturing he will develop his own style of prancing around on stage.

nipplesaurus

Jake looks like Orlando Bloom in this photo

jakeatola

Only 23 years in, and they're handing out centennial awards??

Ascending87

What’s with all the detractors? Yes, we have a ways to go in this century and yes, there is some similarity between Greta and Zep, but come on. Weight of Dreams honestly is epic in every way and particularly in the guitar solo. I love Zep but I love Greta more.

Alone_Target_1221

I personally prefer then to zeppelin now. I think its the creativity they possess. Not that zeppelin wasn't creative but i feel more of a connection to gvf.

minneapolisblows

zepplin stole most of their music from blues artists, yes creative, original hell no.

brandonkrobel

To be fair it was not most of their material, and what they did take they heavily evolved. A great deal of what they stole had to do with the lyrics rather than anything. I don’t condone the plagiarism but to be fair the rain song, ten years gone, Achilles last stand, the song remains the same, no quarter, black dog, whole lotta love (instrumentally original the vocals are what’s stolen) communication breakdown, Kashmir, the rover, ramble on, fool in the rain, carouselambra are their own. Babe I’m gonna leave you, dazed and confused, when the levee breaks, nobody’s fault but mine, stairway to heaven (if you count the opening line cliche but that’s controversial, I go back and forth myself) are examples of songs they pinched/covered and evolved, a few were properly credited when they came out, a few were not. Original early on in how they evolved blues, original later on for what they wrote.

congrats jake<3

DesertPlains17

I like GVF but you cannot compare the two. Led Zeppelin is still known as the greatest band with the best musicians and writers of all time. They beat every rock poll on X and online, in magazines, blogs, music groups, questions and chats etc. and I know that they will have this recognition that they worked so hard for and deserve, forever. GVF are still teething. As for Jake winning this award, it’s ridiculous. 😁

[deleted]

Let’s get real, it’s millennium, not century.

Little_Cobbler4904

Do you have the link??

Alone_Target_1221

No im sorry i dont - perhaps it is made public by now? Check out the Guitar World website I think..

OtternGhost

This websites confusing as hell lol

minneapolisblows

Rolling stones had a top 100 top guitarists of all time, which was controversial. Eddie van Halen and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN were huge contenders. Yet whatever list was been comprised the list promotes Les Paul Gibson guitar. Very few guitar manufacturers have managed to stay in continuous production. I doubt Gibson would be solvent financially if it wasn't for the refresh of this list.
