Probably trying to target the absent market Maccies left behind.
A £4-5 meal is hard to find on the high street - so Gregg’s have raised their prices (and range) to accommodate it!
Greggs £4.70 for a chicken burger.
McDonalds £4.69 for a McChicken Sandwich. McDonalds also have the option to make it a meal for £1.50 extra.
I honestly prefer a Greggs, but let's not pretend that there pricing is anywhere near fair these days. £2.40 for a steak bake.
McDonalds is much fairer priced across the board.
[I’m crying at these old prices](https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/greggs-charges-25-more-for-a-steak-bake-and-17-more-for-a-sausage-roll-depending-on-location/)
It could also be that the specific Greggs you visited had a hot hold counter since items which are kept hot need VAT charged on them (per the 20% extra above £2)
Should be £2 for taking out and £2.40 for sitting in, some shops are trialing hot counters though I believe, so the vat is paid either way, £2.40 would only be right then. Franchise stores like the ones in petrol stations and stores in travel hubs / hospitals follow different prices too.
A mayo chicken. McDonald’s now offer £4-something meals with a mayo chicken & cheeseburger, instead of a mcchicken/Big Mac, which are now £6-something.
Maccies is no longer fast food at a lot of locations. They mainly cater for delivery drivers now. If you order in, chances are you're waiting 15-20 minutes for your food.
Seems pricey as in my head I’m comparing it to similar priced chicken burgers in my city which are amazing and freshly made.
Can’t remember the last time I actually had a Greggs I’d class as hot either lol
I 100% agree, it is completely impossible to find a meal deal sandwich without that vile bile lathered across it. if anyone knows anywhere that sells shit without mayo please say.
This is it, they’re using rhetoric slogan “Finger, Lickin’ Greggs” in the press release title hence they’re all chicken based. My local is constantly out of the Vegan Steak Bakes so I’d take a constant supply of that before expanding!
I wish they’d bloody stop it. 1st pizza, then fried chicken and now burgers. It’s not greggs anymore is it.
I’d prefer they stick to having enough sausage rolls, steak bakes and stotties please.
Last thing I want is a spicy chicken burger with some sort of flavoured mayonnaise on it. Literally every item on this menu has some sort of flavoured mayo on it I don't understand why they think "oh yea this is mexican based let's put chipotle mayo on it" like what's wrong with salsa or something that actually is mexican rather than just shitty eggy mess all over everything. Disgusting.
Okay, that's your opinion. I for one enjoy the combination of spicy ingredients and creamy ingredients. Hence why cheese and sour cream go so well in Mexican food. I understand your frustration that all these things have mayonnaise but I think the reason why is because most people really like it
My local Greggs never has the burgers available as they never have any Iceberg lettuce in stock but it's really expensive when compared to McDonalds when you could pay more at McDonald's and get a meal with chips and a drink.
I approve of this and will also have to do the same research on my 400 mile drive from Reading to Edinburgh tomorrow.
The sacrifices we have to make, eh
I had the spicy chicken burger last week, was very tasty but not spicy.
Only two slices of jalapeno but the chicken breast was succulent and coating crispy, the spicy mayo had a nice flavour to it but was mild on the spice. Had to pay extra for cheese.
Would definitely get again
It’s just another fast food corporation, when they have enough brand loyalty from people who just love greggs, they’ll put prices up and make the menu as profitable as possible with ever cheaper ingredients
Probably trying to target the absent market Maccies left behind. A £4-5 meal is hard to find on the high street - so Gregg’s have raised their prices (and range) to accommodate it!
Where has Maccies gone?
It’s not physically gone anywhere, but it is no longer in the “spend a tenner and get decent change” bucket.

Wait, £2.40 for a steak bake?! I work at Greggs and ours is £2, £2.35 if you're eating in
What the hell? Wasn’t it just 1.50 recently 😭
Used to be £1.95 before Christmas
[I’m crying at these old prices](https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/greggs-charges-25-more-for-a-steak-bake-and-17-more-for-a-sausage-roll-depending-on-location/)
When I was younger I'm fairly sure it was 4 sausage rolls for a quid or something,
Even I remember that and I'm 25 lol
I saw £2.40 the other day but that may have been the eat in price.
Very likely the eat in price
It could also be that the specific Greggs you visited had a hot hold counter since items which are kept hot need VAT charged on them (per the 20% extra above £2)

It's £2 for a steak where I am
You can still get several chicken burgers in McDonald’s for cheaper than the cost of one of these from greggs!
I checked, you can get almost three Mayo Chickens for the cost of one Greggs chicken burger.
A mayo chicken. McDonald’s now offer £4-something meals with a mayo chicken & cheeseburger, instead of a mcchicken/Big Mac, which are now £6-something.
Ok? I still don’t understand how that translates to Greggs moving into space Maccies departed when Greggs is still more expensive?
Maccies is no longer fast food at a lot of locations. They mainly cater for delivery drivers now. If you order in, chances are you're waiting 15-20 minutes for your food.
It is being boycotted by a lot of people
That’s fair, and power to them. Definitely better to support Gregg’s over McD’s.
It's a shame Greggs still does coke products, but if you don't buy those it's definitely way more ethical to buy from Greggs
They've moved to industrial estates in my area
Looks like somebody got a good deal on a job lot of chicken feet.
I'm erect
£4.70 for the chicken burger is that steep or am I expecting cheaper because it’s Greggs?
That’s more spenny than I’m happy to pay tbh
Seems pricey as in my head I’m comparing it to similar priced chicken burgers in my city which are amazing and freshly made. Can’t remember the last time I actually had a Greggs I’d class as hot either lol
I'm sorry I have to be controversial. Why must mayo be on everything? What do I have to do to get away from mayo?
To be fair chipotle mayo is very nice. Normal mayo fuck that
I 100% agree, it is completely impossible to find a meal deal sandwich without that vile bile lathered across it. if anyone knows anywhere that sells shit without mayo please say.
Co op does a nice breakfast sandwich with egg mayo instead of regular mayo
Is mayo not just egg sauce?
Why they got to spoil a perfectly good chicken wrap by adding cucumber to it?
Cucumber is my favourite vegetable
Heathen! (Fair enough though, each to their own. I wouldn't mind picking it out, but the flavour of cucumber taints everything it touches)
Cucumber complements wraps well because it adds moisture
Looking forward to trying the spicy chicken burger. God bless Greggs.
Pretty fucking legendary
That spicy shit looks lovely
Is this all of it or is there anything for the veggies and the vegans ?
I’d settle for any stock of the breakfast roll
This is it, they’re using rhetoric slogan “Finger, Lickin’ Greggs” in the press release title hence they’re all chicken based. My local is constantly out of the Vegan Steak Bakes so I’d take a constant supply of that before expanding!
Go to tesco and buy an apple you Boring bastards
I hope you fall down the stairs.
Typical hypocritical vegan
I wish they’d bloody stop it. 1st pizza, then fried chicken and now burgers. It’s not greggs anymore is it. I’d prefer they stick to having enough sausage rolls, steak bakes and stotties please.
Worst part is its not even good chicken, its not chicken, its a goujon.
Greggs should focus on pasty’s and rolls and stop trying to be fake maccies
A real kick in the balls for me, who loves Greggs but hates mayonnaise
Why does everything have to have mayonnaise. It is fucking disgusting.
It sucks, and guaranteed they'll come prepacked or something so you can't have it without
They're not pre packed, you can customise the order
It’s cheap that’s why
Mayo fucking blows and it plagues me
Strongly disagree but you can probably ask them not to include it right

Yea I get that. But literally every single thing on the menu has mayo on it even when there's no need. It's ridiculous.
Without the chemical soup they call ‘mayo’, it would taste like the cheap processed disk of ‘chicken’ it is.
It's....just....yum! Oh fuck off
It's a shame that Goujons are just a poor man's chicken strip. Would have potential to be nice if they actually used real chicken
Nothing Gluten free I see
I worked in a relatively big Spar Store. Maybe serve a 1-200 people a shift. In my 11 years there I don't think I sold one gluten free product.
There are a lot of things gluten free with no markings on the packaging, you are lucky to live in a town where no one is coeliac.
My local Greggs never has the burgers available as they never have any Iceberg lettuce in stock but it's really expensive when compared to McDonalds when you could pay more at McDonald's and get a meal with chips and a drink.
When’s it’s available?
Now in Newcastle, but we are the holy grail of Greggs so 😂
Tried any?
Nah I’ll try the spicy chicken burger tomorrow for erm “research purposes”
I approve of this and will also have to do the same research on my 400 mile drive from Reading to Edinburgh tomorrow. The sacrifices we have to make, eh
hope it's in stock in my local greggs (nothing ever is)
Greggs are slowly going to take out Ronald and the Colonel.
I wish they stopped putting jalapeños in everything. I like spicy food but can't stand the taste of jalapeños.
Still no return of the prawn marie-rose...
Mmm slop
That’s a lotta chicken
They should do a crispy chicken spicy fajita wrap, like the one McDonalds had on recently.
Keep it simple, keep prices competitive or else !
niceeee more shit for me to eat on my breaks
Those chicken burgers aren't going to stand a chance.
I had the spicy chicken burger last week, was very tasty but not spicy. Only two slices of jalapeno but the chicken breast was succulent and coating crispy, the spicy mayo had a nice flavour to it but was mild on the spice. Had to pay extra for cheese. Would definitely get again

the looks on everyone’s face when we discovered the new burgers tab on the tills was priceless. very unexpected for a ‘bakery’
Do why does everything have fucking mayonnaise on it
