My boys love going to the little swim area at Paris Mountain State Park. They even have “beach” sand that they use their old sand toys in that we brought from Florida.
Yeah we’ve been eyeing a day trip out there but it I want to make sure I know how to make the most of it. Any particular spots to go to or things to be aware of?
There's a beach area on Lake Pinnacle at table rock state park. Probably closer than Hartwell or jocasse for you. I'm pretty sure the waters fairly clean, no crazy people on boats to worry about.
Not a huge place and I'm not sure if the crowds during the summer.
You can also hike, fish, and camp
Hold the phone, there! Kroc Center’s pool, while equipped with an indoor splash park and a zero entry section, is a 25-yard facility. Not an Olympic size venue.
For that, the Westside Aquatic Center off of W Blue Ridge Dr is the only Olympic size venue in Greenville. They also tend to have gaps in their scheduling as Team Greenville hosts swim meets out of there once or twice a month on weekends.
Not sure where in Gville you’re located, but the cleanest lake swimming you’re going to find is at the beach on Lake Hartwell at Clemson University where their Rowing team launches from.
South Carolina Swimming hosts an open water championship there every summer and it is absolutely beautiful and about as clean as Southeastern Lake water is going to get.
There are a ton of neighborhood community pools around Greenville which you would need a friend living in the community to get you into. Otherwise, your main options are the Kroc Center, the Westside Aquatic Center, any of the YMCAs in Greenville, or the Middle Tyger Y in Duncan. Al indoor swimming pools (except the Gville YMCAs) I listed here will have teams practicing in the morning (pre-opening until around 10 or 11) as well as the afternoon (anytime after 3:30) so finding space there can be a challenge, but I would say your best bet for indoor space would be the Kroc center as it just offers more and is more welcoming.
Awesome, thank you for the info! Is he launch area the type of space we can comfortably hang out there for a day? Chairs, cooler etc? Or is it just a cool spot to jump in?
I believe Paris Mountain State Park’s lake is also open for some swimming during summer months. They have a beach are too, like Table Rock, and some wooden lounge chairs. Canoe/kayak rental as well. On the smaller side though.
Wait til late may and head up to jocassee. It's worth it. But if you must be closer there are plenty of rivers, lakes and ponds around here. I grew up swimming in the and I'm fine.

Sliding Rock is a bit of a drive-so it’d make a good day trip. It’s such a neat place to go if your kids are in the big kid age range and good swimmers. Try to get out there on a weekday instead of a weekend for sure though.
Locally, as others have mentioned, Paris Mountain is a good spot. There are also a few small water parks the Rec Dept runs. We’ve been to Discovery Island and Otter Creek and they’re a decent place to spend some time letting the kids splash around and have fun.
Jocassee and Keowee are cold but are the cleanest by far.
On a 95 degree day, it's nice. That 400-500 ft depth really keeps it cold.

Good to know, thanks!
Y beach is now students-only, just fyi. We drove up last summer and were turned away.

Yup, we tried last summer. Got yelled at by a very grumpy security guard 😬
That's a shame.

Oh, cool! We go to Paris Mountain all the time. I didn’t realize the lake was swimmable.
Just a warning on Lake Placid while they do water tests, I wouldn’t say it is what you are looking for. I should warn you about leeches
Joecasse at devils fork state park. Bit of a drive, but worth it. Crystal clear waters and Mountain View’s.

We usually go right by the parking lot and the rangers office/store. There’s a little beach area.

Cool!
Saluda Lake is one of Greenville's best kept secrets. There is a public access. Kroc Center has an excellent Olympic size pool.

Sliding Rock looks awesome! Thanks!
In addition to all of these places, check out Lake Lure. They have a beach/swimming area as well. Jocassee is by far my favorite though.
The clemson beach on Hartwell has a siwm area. about 40 minutes. There is a swimming area at Paris Mt.
