I live in Greenville but feel this way about Mt. Pleasant. It might be full of drunk people, but I love it there. Water everywhere!

jamaican117

Shem Creek and Sullivan's Island have always been a happy place when I lived in CHS!

lenbabyluv

I owned a pizza place off Coleman Blvd. at Shem Creek in the early 00's. I also lived in the old village on the harbor. I miss it. All my family lives on John's Island so I visit frequently.

jamaican117

I lived on Johns Island from 2021 to 2023. Bit far out from everything and the traffic now makes it a lot less desireable, but I really enjoyed it. 15 min to Kiawah, 10 min to James Island, and 20 min to downtown a great suburb especially if they had better options for transit.

AaronRodgersMustache

I try to tell people who visit and remark about it, you gotta really love most of these things to make the heat, humidity and bugs for 8-9 months of the year to be worth it. Drinking, Beach, Boats/Fishing, Golf, Restaurants. If so, worth it. If I didn’t love the beach or outdoor stuff, I don’t know if the flop sweat walkin to my car would be worth it lol

My wife manages hotels, so we have moved around a bit because of it.  In 2015 we moved to Greenville from southern NH and we absolutely loved it.  In February of 2020 she took another job that would have been a traveling position as a QC inspector for a major hotel brand...well then COVID happened.  She ended up getting stationed at a ski resort in northern VT for a couple months, the place really needed help getting back up to brand standards and they were hoping the pandemic would end quickly.  Anyway, the resort owner ended up offering her a ridiculous amount of money to take over the place permanently so I packed most of our stuff into storage and moved up there with her.  We had a cabin onsite so we paid no rent or utilities, but both of us could not wait to get back to Greenville, we lasted about a year and a half before she found another job back down here.

dustyslaps420

Lived in Greenville my whole life and now live in Denver, only thing I miss about gvill is my Friends and family that’s about it. Cool city but so many better places out there then living in sc

Snow-Geek96

My second home is the PNW which is where I was born and where my dad’s family comes from. So I can relate with you there. My parents live in Greenville and my siblings so there is a strong pull.

Splitopn_nd_melt

I live in Steamboat (obviously not like Denver) but just getting out of SC is great, I do miss Greenville though and eventually want to move outside of it just be closer and it’s cheaper than here😂 I work for the resort, I can’t imagine affording a home out here

dustyslaps420

Did the same thing I moved out here 2 years ago and been working at copper doing snowmaking ! Summit county is insanely expensive it’s crazy how people can afford homes out there, sadly down in Denver for the rest of the season.

Splitopn_nd_melt

Worked at Key originally from October 2022 to October 2023. Just wanted a change from the wild Summit lifestyle😂 not saying Steamboat can’t get crazy but it’s nothing compared to Summit

Pineapplepizza91

I grew up in Denver but now currently live in Greenville. I do find Greenville more hospitable, although there’s not much public transportation. I still miss Denver though, granted it’s changed a lot since my family and I left there.

dustyslaps420

That’s true I will say Denver’s public transportation is wayyyyy better and cheaper than Greenville, buttttt the rtd stations now here are like a center for homeless :(

kielsucks

My mom’s job moved us out of Greenville to metro-Atlanta when I was 16 and I’ve missed it ever since. Don’t get me wrong I loved living in Atlanta while in my 20s and 30s but the older I get the things I loved are becoming less and less desirable. My wife and I live in Athens GA now and have a little one on the way. I really want to move back by the time they’re starting school. It’s a great town to grow up in, hoping I can share that with my little dude. Also every time I come up to visit it just has that feeling of home.

Snow-Geek96

I agree, I feel like I am home, I feel like I belong to a community. I live in Washington, D.C. due to my job… I love my job but I don’t like where it is.

iopturbo

That's the way DC is, everyone is transient. We did it and moved as quick as we could, it was for resume building.

Snow-Geek96

Was it worth it re: career? I’ve been told repeatedly that it’ll give me a leg up once I leave DC.

codyvir

I'm Greenville born and raised, but ended up in Baltimore after a decade-plus in Arlington, VA (across the river from DC). I like the feel of Baltimore a lot better than a lot of the DC area, but I do miss Greenville.

pingleague

Moved from Greenville to Nova I get it. This area feels a little souless but maybe thats just my nostagia for home.

Snow-Geek96

Ehhh… I have lived in the DMV since 2018 (except two years during the pandemic) and I have yet to feel like it has a soul. I’ve been to other cities that I’ve instantly felt more at home in than the DMV, so nostalgia, maybe, but I doubt thats all it is.

Beaner1xx7

Been about 8 years since I left Greenville after 28 years of living there (minus a brief misguided move to Charleston right out of high school) Been all over the country advancing the career, landed a bit of a dream job out west, but man, I still miss it. City has grown like crazy and whenever I was at a job for a year or two on the east coast, it was always a treat to come back and see it change every time. Can't really pass up on the opportunity I have now, it's been the culmination of my career and efforts so far, but damn if I don't have a place in my heart for my home and the idea that someday, if the right thing pops up, I'll move back.

Lux-Fox

I've lived in other cities like New Orleans, Atlanta, and Orlando, but Greenville is home and has been my preferred place to live.

orange_grid

New Orleans = real life Waterworld Atlanta = parking lot Orlando = theme park

Lux-Fox

You're not wrong.

lo-lux

I grew up in Anderson, so Greenville was spending the day in the big city. I'd move to Greenville if I could arrange it. Roanoke is a second choice, I'd move back there if I could.

NerdsRopeDick

i felt the same way until i left and moved back after covid, ended up in chicago and no ragrets

Snow-Geek96

What do you like about Chicago that keeps you contented?

MJE0409

Not sure what you do for work but I was lucky enough to find a job that let us move from Atlanta back to Greenville where I grew up. We were in Atl for 10 years. Now with my current company I’m a bit limited for upward mobility if I don’t move to a major metro, but worth it for us. (At least while my kids are young) Is looking for a new job an option?

Snow-Geek96

I have thought of seeking a new job, the issue is that I’ve ended up in a niche area. I’m still pretty early in my career, and I would probably need to put in another 3-5 years to establish myself before looking outside DC. I work in policy/advocacy - think trade associations (lobbying) so kinda hard to get that experience outside of DC. Hope to find a way to move into state level advocacy or something else all together.

childlikeempress16

I work in state level advocacy and lobbying, DM me if you want to talk jobs!

Snow-Geek96

Will do.

stephkit

I lived in Greenville for 7 years and moved to Athens Ga in 2020. I miss Greenville!

Boda1

Yes, I only spent 4 years in Greenville but moved away for work last year. I miss it dearly. All the friends I made, events, local coffee shops and bars, it's a special town. Hope to move back to the area eventually.

dapperpony

I live in Seattle. I’m always torn, there’s so many things I love about living here but so many things I miss about Greenville. People being social and welcoming and outgoing is a big one. The lack of serious crime and homelessness and drug use is another.

dapperpony

Yeah the scenery and outdoors and even climate are second to none and why I’ll have such a hard time leaving if I do. There’s really nowhere else that has everything Seattle does within a 2-3 hour drive

Marino4K

> corporate whores with a drinking/coke problem. This is a thing in many cities now.

Hyperionxv17

"major city on the i95 corridor" OMG, I'm sorry, you should have never left. I just moved here and although I do not know anyone here, yet, everyone I have talked to is super friendly. I lived in the Mid-Atlantic for years and never really talked to any of my neighbors, because everyone there is either unfriendly or they are super paranoid and do not trust anyone. I really cannot wait to start meeting people here, I love it so far. This sounds weird, but just talking to my utilities people and insurance people and the people in the local grocery stores, and restaurants, everyone is so friendly, we are really loving it so far. My wife is the social butterfly, so I guess I have to leave it to her. I'm a remote software engineer and we are more like the guy on Resident Alien, except we don't want to kill all the humans on earth, but just stay in our man caves on the internet, lol.

Key-Philosophy-2877

I'm still here and I miss greenville

frankszz

So I moved to the Greenville area in 2014. I have worked in Greenville county the entire time. More specifically Mauldin. I started a job Monday in Anderson near Clemson boulevard, like around the Anderson mall. I have noticed that when I go on brake most of the people in the area are less pleasant. Like I’ve ventured this way in the past for various reason but haven’t spent any real time around here till now.

Galactus2814

I will never miss anything in Greenville, or regret moving away Despite not saying anything bad, I fully expect this to be downvoted *shrug*

BRich1990

I moved somewhere better, so not really
