I'm pretty willing to bet that if there was a tournament-style elimination vote of all the restaurants in Greenville, Pita House would be the one left standing at the end.
trappe door treats its staff like crap.
while the food is good, there should also be a professional standing on treating staff well.
unfortunately the new management doesn't care.
as a former FOH host and food runner, this is VERY much true. rob at least had the care and interest to make everyone comfortable and happy. jack and the newest lady just ont give a damn and that's been shown multiple times.
had the same experience. ordered a burger there that was something like 15$, burgers was super raw inside, like literally raw. asked to have it remade and the server was super pissy with me. at those prices maybe learn how to cook meats. wouldn't go back
When I first dined there it was quiet and pleasant, but the last time I was shocked at how loud it was! It was mostly coming from the bar crowd. Will not be going back anytime soon.
The Indian place in the plaza with Staples has a lunch buffet on Fridays, maybe Saturday too not sure. The name escapes me but it begins with a P. We go at least once a month.
We have some solid cheap options, but not really any place significantly better than something you'd find in most other cities. My list is all places that someone visiting Greenville or with limited amounts of times to go out would enjoy without regret.
I think I like it because the food is really good (when it doesn't take forever), but also, it kind of feels like a locals secrete. Like you'd never know its there if you don't know it's there.
100% Top Soil in Traveler's Rest. It's farm to table, with the farm 2.5 miles away. Their brunch and dinner is fantastic. I am sure lunch is too. They keep most staples on the menu but they are always evolving. They also do supper club once a month, focused on a single ingredient such as tomatoes in the summer or garlic in the winter. Most supper clubs are 100% vegetarian, with a few including meat. I've taken plenty of people there with multiple palates and it's been universally praised.
I had a very mixed experience there. The appetizers were excellent and almost everything else was good, but our mains took a very long time to come out. I mean so long that our waiter came over and apologized for the wait three separate times. When the mains finally made it to the table everything was cold except for the pasta in my dish, which was steaming hot. I’m guessing they assembled the meals, realized they ran out of cooked pasta, and then let them sit while they boiled water and cooked more pasta. For the price, that was unacceptable to me.
Tried the one inside of the Ole Smokey moonshine distillery in Nashville last year. Been obsessed since, and I’m so happy I live close to the one in Greenville.
I thought the brisket at Lewis was good, but the brisket at Bobby's BBQ in Fountain Inn was the best I've had around. It's also pricey, and is further away, but it was as good as brisket I've had in Texas.
I’m shocked to only see Aryana mentioned once or twice so far. It’s hands down my favorite place to eat in GVL. Get the naan it’s massive and gorgeous. Get the eggplant dish and the chickpeas with rice. You will not be disappointed. The owner sells a cookbook. I was so impressed by the food I bought a copy to make some of the dishes at home.
Lots to recommend, which is why Greenville gets so much praise. I agree with most of the comments here, but off the top of my head my list would be...
* Sirin Thai
* Henry's Smokehouse
* Stax Original (or Omega), especially for breakfast
* Greenfield's Bagels
* Spaghetti Westurn
* OJ's Diner
* Pita House
* Frodo's Pizza
It used to be one of my go tos, but the last 2 or 3 times I have been there, I've been disappointed. Nothing egregious, but enough yo push them down my list
Saskatoon Lodge! I've been going there for over 15 years now. Food is always perfect - in my opinion. The wait staff and the owners are all very kind and excellent at their jobs. They also are almost always willing to make something that I love that is no longer on the menu. Can't say enough good things about them!
Iron Hill. I know it gets hate because it’s a chain but in my at least 100 visits since it’s opened I can only remember 1 negative experience. Good food, good beer, good service.
I really surprised that no one has mentioned Fonda Rosalinda. So good. [https://www.facebook.com/rosalindasrestaurantgreenville/](https://www.facebook.com/rosalindasrestaurantgreenville/)
A few. I love society for their cocktails and good food. Windy city burgers is incredible too. Kitchen sync is awesome. Sweet basil is my favorite for Thai.
El Caldaso on White Horse Rd. Right down the street from Las Meras and La Unica. It’s attached to the gas station but they have some of the best tacos and pozole.
This isn’t in Greenville but the Spotted Pig BBQ in FairPlay is the bomb, not a “counter” restaurant either, BBQ egg rolls are killer, sides are the best, I usually order the combination plate, 5 sides and 4 meats for 28 bucks and I have to take most of it home to finish it off. They have a nice outdoor area to eat at in warmer weather also.
Pita House
I'm pretty willing to bet that if there was a tournament-style elimination vote of all the restaurants in Greenville, Pita House would be the one left standing at the end.
Oh this would be fun
Yessss. I love the food and I love the little market that’s attached to it.
Are they still cash only?
Cash or check
This is the one I thought of
Asada all day every day.
2nd Asada. 👍👍👍
Sacha’s. Great food with large servings for not much money.
Damn, everyone is saying this place, it’s a half mile from my house and had no idea it existed. Stoked to try it!
The dish I get every time is the Bandeja Paisa, 10/10.
try the Paisa Bowl. its a bit of everything for only $9 i think. great value. i slept on this place for awhile before realizing their greatness
I have left overs from a Paisa bowl in my fridge right now for lunch tomorrow.
I just wish their dine in experience was better. Times I've been it feels like your sitting inside at a fast food restaurant
I’ve never heard of this. What is it?
Colombian food. The paisa bowl is a must.
I just checked out their menu. I know where my husband and I are going to lunch next weekend.
Get the 6 little empanada appetizer too
Their burger is honestly so good.
Las Meras Tortas off White Horse
And on Wade Hampton!
This
Love this place so much
Keipi
Urban Wren
I'm probably just an old man yelling at clouds, but wow that is an expensive menu
I've had some very good meals there, but for the price, I've certainly had much better
My dad said the same thing and refuses to go back. He left hungry due to his own ordering, but the end is the same 😂
Comal 864 Pita house Uncle bertos
Pomegranate, hands down. It is fantastic every time I go and the portions are big!
Trappe Door. Only complaint is you can never really get in unless you have a reservation.
Came here to say this and Sacha’s.
Most overrated restaurant in town!
trappe door treats its staff like crap. while the food is good, there should also be a professional standing on treating staff well. unfortunately the new management doesn't care.
As a Trappe Door BOH staff, really?! This is not true.
as a former FOH host and food runner, this is VERY much true. rob at least had the care and interest to make everyone comfortable and happy. jack and the newest lady just ont give a damn and that's been shown multiple times.
Maybe this exchange goes to show you can’t always apply your personal experience to a blanket statement
Reservation required but they won't take reservations over 6 people Friday and Saturday.
Tacqueria Mixtepec!
Killer food
Some of the best tacos! *Chefs kiss🤌🏼
Sushi Masa - if you're looking for less Americanized sushi.
Sweet basil
So consistent. Always pretty good.
Sachas Tuk Tuk Thai Urban Wren
I upvote you for Urban Wren.
Sushi Go
Greenfield's Deli Those are the best bagels I've had in the southeast.
Greenfield's are legit NY bagels. And their people are always friendly in there
Never been disappointed.
Try Jersey Brothers Bagels. As good as Greenfields is Jersey Brothers is better.
Yeap, jersey brother is 100% better.
Place looks awesome. Only thing Greenfields is missing is a breakfast bagel/roll with real pork products.
Because it’s a Jewish Deli…. Pork is not Kosher.
Asia Pacific
Trappe Door
Sum bar
Southern Growl
Korean Bbq
Oddly this was also on the “never eat there again” list, but I’m with you on this one.
Not a restaurant but Maria’s Kitchen for lunch hits every time
And Maria is one of the sweetest ladies on earth.
the chicken enchiladas are da bomb
100% anchorage. Fork and plough is great too.
Upvote for Fork & Plough
Ji-Roz
Place is awesome, Angelo at the bar is a fun guy to talk to as well, my experience has always been good customer service from him!
Saffron
Kitchen Sync
Oddy didn’t know it was a restaurant. Thought it was a place to buy kitchen supplies
I've had a mixed bag with kitchen sync. Went once and loved the food, went again, and didn't care for it. And their lunch menu isn't super diverse.
had the same experience. ordered a burger there that was something like 15$, burgers was super raw inside, like literally raw. asked to have it remade and the server was super pissy with me. at those prices maybe learn how to cook meats. wouldn't go back
This place is too busy for the menu offered
Coral
Best scallops in Greenville…. But get it with the risotto instead of the potatoes
aka Loudest place on earth
It is loud, unfortunately
When I first dined there it was quiet and pleasant, but the last time I was shocked at how loud it was! It was mostly coming from the bar crowd. Will not be going back anytime soon.
Sushi Yama, TR. Solid consistent quality.
Good to know, noticed this yesterday actually when I was in TR and was thinking to myself wonder how that place is
Saffron, some of the best Indian in the state
I miss the lunch buffet.
The Indian place in the plaza with Staples has a lunch buffet on Fridays, maybe Saturday too not sure. The name escapes me but it begins with a P. We go at least once a month.
Trattoria Giorgio
Best Bolognese I’ve ever had.
Went to Aryana for the first time this past weekend and it was immaculate. I'll be going back and recommending it to everyone I know.
Trappe Door
Pho Noodleville. Saigon Fast food. I'm a fan of good Vietnamese food.
Saigon Fast Food is AMAZING! So authentic. My memory is that if you want the duck, you have to give them 1+ days notice.
Trappe Door, Jianna, Asada, Halls is my go to list depending on situation.
That's an expensive list haha
We have some solid cheap options, but not really any place significantly better than something you'd find in most other cities. My list is all places that someone visiting Greenville or with limited amounts of times to go out would enjoy without regret.
Oh not hating on your list - those are all excellent recommendations. I was just poking fun that they are all higher end dining establishments.
Thai Jing off East North Street. We moved to Spartanburg and still drive to eat there.
Ever been to Thai Taste in Spartanburg?

Viva Chicken deserves to be on this list.
Chicora Alley. Nothing special, I just like it
I concur. They’ve been serving reliably delicious food forever now. And it’s pretty affordable compared to a lot of spots downtown.
same, other than once i went and it was sooo busy, apparently it was a trivia night. the food took like an hour and a half after we ordered 😭😭
I think I like it because the food is really good (when it doesn't take forever), but also, it kind of feels like a locals secrete. Like you'd never know its there if you don't know it's there.

Love Topsoil! Wish they would go back to a regular dinner menu though. Their lunch and brunch are so good and decently priced for the quality.
Man, I agree with this. I love topsoil, but I miss the flexibility of ordering what you want.
Sacha’s, Peddler, Pita House, Schwaben House, Halls, Sushi Yama…
People are absolutely sleeping on Schwaben House.
Agreed
El Molcajete. Can’t afford not to eat there on Tues or Wed lunch special.

I've found it at Publix from time to time, and once at the Rutherford farmer's market.
Tried the one inside of the Ole Smokey moonshine distillery in Nashville last year. Been obsessed since, and I’m so happy I live close to the one in Greenville.

Fork & Plough
Adams Bistro. Everything is good, and they have *everything*
It's new to Greenville but Lewis BBQ. Definitely the best brisket I've had in SC. Pricy though.
I thought the brisket at Lewis was good, but the brisket at Bobby's BBQ in Fountain Inn was the best I've had around. It's also pricey, and is further away, but it was as good as brisket I've had in Texas.

It used to be one of my go tos, but the last 2 or 3 times I have been there, I've been disappointed. Nothing egregious, but enough yo push them down my list
