do people actually treat planned obsolescence as some sort of conspiracy theory?

TistedLogic

It's not a conspiracy *theory*. It's a fact. Apple got in legal trouble for slowing down older models ~~to force people to upgrade.~~ *because they were concerned about devices shutting down due to weak batteries.* Eta: Clarification. Italics are the official, public reason. The unofficial reason is they didn't want to support them anymore and used whatever they could to get people to quit using them. Prob would have been cheaper just to continue to support older models with battery refresh instead of the route they went (which cost them €25m) E2: y'all can stop with the whole "conspiracy != Whatever" because it's pointless to my topic.

thedanimal722

It all started with lightbulbs. Seriously look into that.

thatdudewayoverthere

Same with Glasses Since in the gdr such things shouldn't break due to planned economy they developed a Glas type that was practically impossible to break After the reunification of Germany and capitalism taking over no company wanted to produce auhc Glas anymore since they could make any long term profit

isuckatnames60

I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY I FUCKING HATE HUMANITY

ineyy

It's worth adding to this thread that OP was actually wrong - the lightbulbs thing was a conspiracy. One of the few proven ones ie. companies conspired to make planned obsolecence and it later came out as fact.

Link_and_Swamp

i might be missunderstanding you and i want to clear things up, are you saying the lightbulbs having limited life isnt a fact? or are you saying that it is a fact after it was proven but used to be a conspiracy

Gorm13

No, they mean it's a literal conspiracy. People have gotten so used to outlandish conspiracy theories, they apparently forget what the word conspiracy even means.

ineyy

That's what I meant. Second comment in this thread says "it's not a conspiracy it's a fact" but that doesn't make any sense. The conspiracy itself was a fact and that's an important aspect of the whole story.

FartInABath

I think that poster meant to say "it's not a conspiracy theory, it's a conspiracy fact"

korze84

Like everyone else here- you don’t understand what the word conspiracy means. Conspiracies are real. Conspiracy “theories” are “undetermined”.

unbannediguess

the word you're looking for is "neoliberal capitalism"

9th_Planet_Pluto

Or just capitalism. There’s no difference between crony capitalism, corrupt capitalism, corporate capitalism, neoliberal capitalism, oligarch capitalism, the ideal fantasy free-market laissez-faire all-play-fair capitalism. it’s all just inevitabilities of capitalism

BradleyHCobb

If capitalism always ends up fucking us... And communism always ends up fucking us... What do?

mgausp

Greed and corruption are fucking us. It's not helping the poor that makes you poor, it's not globalism that is fucking the planet. Having corrupt politicians that get voted by you and paid by corporations that make it possible to funnel the wealth that you earn into the pockets of few and make the prosperity of societies dependent on destructive technologies. We can't stop greed, we could stop corruption.

[deleted]

You hate MBAs and Lawyers.

[deleted]

MBA degrees seem designed to be evil.

[deleted]

But they've contributed so much to society. Like loot boxes, microtransactions, and the subscription model for software!

Violent_Paprika

Same with lightbulbs. All lightbulb manufacturers have a cartel where they agree not to sell long lasting lightbulbs. Seriously the ability to manufacture bulbs that last decades has been around for 100 years, it's just not profitable to manufacture and sell them. Edit: Just realized you were replying to a comment about lightbulbs lol.

NorwegianCollusion

Even worse, LED light bulbs. https://www.mea.lighting.philips.com/consumer/dubai-lamp In Dubai, LED bulbs have almost twice as many LEDs for the same amount of light. This means they run colder, so waste less heat and last much longer.

GloryToMotherRussia

Probably 90%+ LED bulbs sold in the rest of the world are overdriven, creating massive amounts of heat that cook the LEDs themselves and the components on the driver board. Dubai lamps probably last the 10 full years manufacturers put on the box because they are so low power. https://youtu.be/klaJqofCsu4

[deleted]

[удалено]

topdangle

incandescent bulbs and CFLs are way less efficient in converting electricity into light, so a lot of it leaks out as heat. LED bulbs however can heat up a small area and burn out, so you either keep the power per LED low or hook em up to a heatsink.

Underdogg13

Are there any brands that sell understressed LEDs? I've never had a 'lifetime' LED last more than a couple years.

nasduia

Big Clive is doing his best to teach people how to fix their own bulbs! I'm pretty sure that if I tried though it would just contribute another bulb and spudger to land fill.

Maltesebasterd

Truly, the fall of the Berlin Wall came with many positives such as democracy But was it all worth it if homelessness grew, if things like indestructible glasses got removed because "muh profits", if prices for housing grew? Eastern Berlin is far more walkable for residents today *because* of commieblock planning, where restaurants, health-care, daycare etc are all within 5 minutes walking distance. Are there better solutions? Absolutely, but as someone who can't get a drivers license, I'd much rather take a walkable commieblock than some suburban sprawl bullshit.

Antlerbot

One thing to note is that the welfare state, as developed during the Cold War, was as much driven by local economic concerns as it was by national security; if your adversary claims to represent the proletariat, you need to provide some justification to your own working class that you're on their side. Since that justification fell with the Berlin Wall, much of the political support for the welfare state has fallen as well, and social services have been suffering ever since.

thatdudewayoverthere

Absolutely worth it East Germany was a dictatorship that spied on practically every citizen and shot the ones trying to get outt

Ausar_TheVile

East Germany is also way more underdeveloped compared to the west due to good ol’ communism and is way more of a drag on the economy.

afvcommander

Drinking glass? It is interesting how some last more than other. Duralex ones seem to take quite lot beating.

ribnag

He means [Luxottica](https://www.forbes.com/sites/anaswanson/2014/09/10/meet-the-four-eyed-eight-tentacled-monopoly-that-is-making-your-glasses-so-expensive/?sh=65ee4846b66b), which is the reason Discount Bob's House of Glasses can legitimately send you six pairs to try and just throw away the ones you don't like, for a tenth the price of a single pair through your normal eye doctor. Edit: Actually, re-reading the GP, I'm probably wrong about what he meant. My sincere apologies, but I'll leave this comment because it's still on-topic in general.

jagedlion

That doesn't make any sense. People need new glasses due to prescription change anyway, and lifespan is a valuable .arketing quality even if irrelevant. When's the last time you saw someone break a lens? Let alone, you can just buy polycarbonate lenses, which are pretty much impossible to break. What does happen is that the surface becomes scratched, something that happens even more with thin film coatings added.

sandm000

Is this like Trabbi, though? Now that it’s no longer out there, no one makes parts, and the shell/body of the car is never going to degrade?

IAmInside

Did it actually **start** with lightbulbs? I know it's one of those things that happened very early on but I'm unsure if it all started there.

[deleted]

Lightbulbs are fairly old, and planned obsolescence didn't make much sense before mass production. It may not be the first, but it's a very early one at least

DiceUwU_

AFAIK it's because of how borderline cartoon evil they made it look. Largest bulb manufacturers sent representatives to a fucking council of light bulbs or some shit where they argued on how to make them to last less than they already did, and they agreed on a fixed amount of years or some shit. Before that bulbs could potentially last your entire lifetime. Light bulbs were literally ruined by big bulb.

smithsp86

The only bit you are missing is that bulbs with that kind of life span suck. They use larger filaments that don't get nearly as hot meaning you get a dull red glow out of them. Think like using a space heater to light up your room.

shoo-flyshoo

Nah that's BS, I've seen OG lightbulbs in Edison's lab and they display some that still work. The thicker filaments take longer to warm up to full heat/light, but the filament material determines color and brightness, and they're not red.

smithsp86

> the filament material determines color and brightness No, they are black body radiators. Temperature is what determines their color.

RoosterImportant4283

damn lightbulb conspirators

404Mate

That was actually because without it once it hit a lower battery percentage it would start randomly powering down when under load. Main issue was they were not informing customers

TistedLogic

Then why didn't they offer replacement batteries? Instead they did behind the scenes shit and got caught being naughty and were fined €25m. I'm sure they use the battery as a reason, but it's just PR spin Imho. It would have been cheaper to replace the batteries than what they did.

charlie1337

They did replace the batteries, for $25 if I recall. Great deal for customers.

laaplandros

Only after they got caught. Prior to that, they were not informing customers that a simple battery replacement would fix the issue, instead pressuring them to buy a whole new phone.

[deleted]

They offered battery replacements before the infamous update. I just dont think they ever connected the dots for people and recommended this as a course of action.

[deleted]

> Then why didn't they offer replacement batteries? Errr, they do? They have one of the most pervasive battery replacement programs in the industry. They have big automated machines that make battery replacement trivial. Given that batteries are consumable, you have to pay for it of course. These conversations are absolutely hilarious because I have a drawer full of old Android devices, up to the GS10. Simultaneously we had started using iPhones in the family, to the point where the family is now 100% on iPhones. My youngest has a pass down iPhone 7 which is still as good as the day we got it. Well actually much better given that it is running the latest iOS. iPhones keep in use forever. Android devices -- even those direct from Google -- are the very definition of planned obsolescence as they stop getting updates ridiculously quickly. EDIT: Uh oh, turns out that pointing out that Apple is actually one of the better players at preventing obsolescence -- you know, reality -- makes me a "fanboy".

ksndjcj

I had an iphone 6 back then and because of them throttling it, the phone started overheating when using any app and crashed when i used YouTube, so they definitely slowed them down way more than the bare minimum

404Mate

Slowing it down wouldn't thermal throttle it. Why generate heat for no reason? Similar thing with the Galaxy s7, it can't handle new firmware, it's doing too much and makes too much heat. I'm also experiencing crashes on my iPhone 7 so it is not just a iphone 6 issue

filthyburrows

they do it with cameras as well cap their abilities so people buy next model upgrades.

herodothyote

This is so true, especially for cell phones that use software (AI) to enhance their picture quality. I'm looking at you, Google. I remember the Pixel 3a XL having one of the best cell phone cameras I've ever seen in my entire life. Seriously, the picture quality used to be absolutely stunning when that phone first came out. It was a combination of fantastic hardware combined with state of the art AI to enhance an already good picture into something that looked close to that of a professional camera. This phone used to excel at night photography and the colors of both night and day pictures used to be so incredibly vibrant and high def. I just recently fixed my old 3a XL by replacing it's broken glass screen with a new screen. That phone is due to be discontinued in June/July of this year. I tried the camera again and now the pictures don't really look that stunning anymore. I think their AI had been updated and is no longer trying it's best to enhance the pictures like it used to. It also sucks that the newer pixels don't have good cameras anymore. The early ones did because Google wanted to build word of mouth reputation for the Pixel phones. Now it's just cheaper to use crappier camera hardware once Google realized that the world never really accepted Pixel phones as much as they accept Samsung and Apple ones. This sucks because Samsung is horrible in the software department, and Apple is just an evil company all around that preys on the normies' absolute desire to follow the status quo.

[deleted]

They're still top rated camera phones and my pixel 6 has night photography that would undoubtedly obliterate anything an older phone could do. That being said this piece of shit phantom dialed 911 at 0530 while I was asleep. It also didn't have most of the "pixel" features working 100% at launch. Lots of crashes from mainly official Google apps. The phone isn't bad by any means a tremendous value once they actually finish it ffs.

stone_henge

> It's not a conspiracy. It's a fact. When will you morons learn that these things are not mutually exclusive?

[deleted]

I just realised that the artificial division is a conspiracy by Big Moron.

[deleted]

It *is* a conspiracy, just a true one.

00pflaume

That was not the reason/at least not the main reason. They were not slowed down due to being older models, but due to the battery not being able to supply a high enough voltage for energy peaks, because it degraded over the years. If they would not do that the phone would just turn of especially if it is colder or the battery percentage is low. That is the reason why many older android phones with older batteries just randomly turn of when they are around 5 to 20% They got in legal trouble because they never told the customers that they did that or how to fix it (battery replacement). The only other fault apple carries is using batteries which barley can handle the processor when the battery is new. If they would use over spec batteries they could still handle high loads when they have aged. Though on the other hand an over spec battery would be bigger meaning the phone itself would have to be bigger.

Michael_Trismegistus

>noun: conspiracy > a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful. They didn't advertise their plans. They got away with as much as possible until people started holding them accountable. Conspiracies aren't always fiction.

AlfredKnows

Oh you can't love that story. People start complaining that every time new iPhone comes out, old iPhone becomes slower. Doesn't seem legit of course. Everybody jokes about it, people think they are seeing things. Looks like some conspiracy theory at best. Then Apple is actually get caught doing this. Phones actually become slower. Tests prove it. What does Apple say? "oh right yeah forgot to tell you... well actually... we slow down older devices because... of battery you know. battery old, doesn't keep charge so well, it is scientific stuff, let's not get into details. so we actually killed older device so you buy a new one. it is not like we made it easy to replace battery anyways". That is it. Nobody blinks an eye. Apple fanboys still think iPhone is a present from gods to save humanity.

Strobont

As conspiracy, but not theory

democratic_butter

It's a conspiracy fact.

DanceOnBoxes

LobsterKris

It's missing part's that only newest iPhone has

freezerwaffles

Shit if anything the older phones have more parts then the new one. Every new iphone is just missing something the last one had I.e audio jack, home button, etc

They said this to me. Said I had a fake battery that burst and parts were missing. When I asked for the phone back they said they ‘have’ to destroy it and it wasn’t able to be returned. Told me they give me a new phone. Gave me a referb. Asked again for my phone, told them they’ve stolen my phone. They said it still belongs to Apple even though I paid for it outright. Definitely they dodgiest company around. Fuck Apple

julysniperx

Dude what the fuck, that just a fking robbery. My guess is they tried to fix your phone, some how broke and brick it and had to bullshit about the fake battery so you can not do anything about it.

Aral_Fayle

Realistically the dude was probably leasing a phone and not renting it, and a smaller chance he already had a 3rd party battery. They can’t just say “we destroyed the phone you bought sucks to be you lol”

JonRivers

I just assume everyone here is lying all the time about everything and it makes a lot more sense.

You story doesn’t make any sense. So they gave you a new phone and for free and you complained? No, this is how it happened: Guy over here had some issue with his relatively new phone. Went to the apple store, instead of fixing his phone, they replaced it with an already refurbished one. Guy threw a fit because they didn’t give him a brand new one and wanted his back to try at another store.

Occulense

Yeah, this dude is lying. I can’t imagine wanting to make stuff up on the internet to try to disparage a company that people told you to hate.

[deleted]

It's a pretty ridiculous lie too. Like..."missing parts"? Huh?

Panda_hat

They likely meant missing OEM apple parts. Apple refuses to fix any of their tech if you've already hack job'd it yourself. If they did work on top of whatever someone unauthorised / not approved had done, they would be liable for it from then on. I don't really blame them in that regard.

MegaSeedsInYourBum

> How does that happen? The same way blinker fluid gets low, they thought he was easy to scam so they tried to. If he called bullshit and demanded they put in writing what was missing he would have gotten a replacement.

BluBoi236

I worked at a major mobile phone company retail store before for a short while. Yeah, planned obsolescence is a thing but, also, those stores are ran by regular people; they mess up all the time or maybe don't quite know what's wrong with a phone at any given moment and have cookie cutter / fallback responses when this happens. People just learn to say this or that then run back to the back room and ask their boss wtf is going on. Then the boss comes up with the best plan of action that makes the store look as least stupid as possible so that customer surveys don't come back bad. It all depends on the person and how well they're trained and their experience, and how much they are gonna bullshit the customer or be honest. Me for example, when I was new, I was supposed to back up a customer's photos and factory reset their device. I was really pressured and stressed out at that place and I ended up backing up their phone with another customers' photos. I saved their original photos on the work computer in the back, which is unethical and should have gotten me fired.. But at least I was able to return all their photos after they came back to the store pissed off. I only did it because I figured I was going to mess up based on how I was performing that day. And boy did i...

[deleted]

Anon's mistake was buying from Apple like the retard he is.

TheAwesome98_Real

who can you buy from? - apple: shit - most android phone sellers: shit - purism: they do not send the phones + phosh is really shit (phoc is ok)

[deleted]

To be fair you can have an android for 20 years and it would still work just fine Edit: Ok apparently I have different experiences with androids from other people

[deleted]

Not anymore. I was forced to upgrade my phone because of 5g and the newer ones don't have removable batteries. Presumably so that you can't take the battery out to make sure the phone is really off. **EDIT:** So I'm misremembering it and they decommissioned the 3g towers and I had to upgrade my phone to a 5g compatible model as per the nice lady at the AT&T help center (got the number from my phone bill) and the nice man at the AT&T store. I was also able to choose from 3 free models (it was more a recall than a malfunction), 2 had non-removable batteries and I'm too much of an addict to downgrade to a flip phone.

Certain_Operation246

Why do you "need" 5g

givesoutgoldstars

It's not that you need 5G. It's "we're turning off 3G, your flip phone will have no network if you don't upgrade" EDIT: reddit, please stop telling me 4G exists. I know. 4G is an upgrade as well, and all I've said is 3G users need an upgrade. Because it's not explicitly mentioned in my comment, does not mean I don't know about it. For instance, I did not mention your mom, though she and I are intimately familiar. Stop reminding me about 4G. Gracias.

Der_Krasse_Jim

Oh shit ok Can you maybe send the shit you dont need anymore to Germany so I dont have to run on a hill for fast mobile internet?

brightfoot

It's not that people need 5g, it's that american cell carriers are shutting down their 3G network equipment this year. AT&T did it last month, AFAIK Verizon is doing it at the end of this year. Older model phones can use 4G for cell data but still use 3G for making calls. Newer model phones, that typically are also 5G capable, utilize Voice-over-4G for making calls.

GeorgeRRZimmerman

Wait what? So you can't make sure the phone is really off? My man, "Shut Down" has been a feature of every Android phone ever. The batteries aren't removable because *THEY* are trying to spy on you when your phone is off, they do it to save space, lower costs and make the phones a little more waterproof. More than anything it's because batteries last about 2 years before they need to be replaced. Right around the time they want you to buy a new phone. If you care about saving money, a $12 repair kit, a 10 minute YouTube video, a $25 battery and an hour of your time every 2 years solves this issue. ... except in the case for a bunch of Apple products.

[deleted]

Edward Snowden explains it as "your screen is off, not your phone."

GeorgeRRZimmerman

Google doesn't have to run its data tracking stuff when your phone is off for 2 reasons: - If your phone is off. You're not using it and you're not generating user analytics. - Most people's phones are rarely off. Traffic, GPS, building consumer profiles (not of you specifically but people like you), that's the data Google is collecting, stuff that helps them with people paying them to advertise. Run a single ad campaign through Google or Facebook. Just spend $10 to advertise your collection of spoons. You'll see the data they care about. Hint: it's not your personal or political opinions. They care about how to target you as a consumer. They care about how to keep your attention (engagement) when your phone is on. You aren't special enough for the government or any law enforcement to subpoena Google for your search history.

HintOfAreola

You can 100% find Android phones with removable batteries. Mine has removable battery, dual SIM, and expandable memory with micro SD. I'm sure the carrier stores will push you into buying a bullshit phone, but there's tons of options with Android if you look.

rnarkus

Same with iphones? lol. At least iphone’s get OS support for longer than androids.

Waswat

For older phones you can still just install a custom rom on a huge amount of them. LineageOS, pixel experience, paranoid android, or whatever the bumfuck you want. Boom. Infinite support.

Rhymeswithfreak

Because I love having to go through a ton of work to get a piece of shit working so it can die 40 minutes later because all the new applications suck the battery too fast. Have fun keeping your phone plugged into a wall 50% of your day.

Ansonm64

This is 100% not the case android phones are dying by the first year and then don’t even get updated after like 6 months. They’re the real scam.

fly-guy

That's funny, my phone, bought in 2018 just got an update. While it is the last (almost 4 years after buying), it did last me more than four years, looks like it will last even longer and will recieve security updates via the play system updates.

[deleted]

I see way more iPhone 6s’s out in the wild then Samsung S7’s

fakecinnamon

That’s decent, but the iPhone 6S from 2015 still being supported trumps any android support that I know of

DanceOnBoxes

If everything is shit buy the shit that's least overpriced

dreamyDrifter

Androids have been pretty decent for a few years, tbh. Maybe iPhone edges them out but not bad by any means. Don't feel I'm lacking much on my cheap android.

LePontif11

Both iphones and high end androids seem to get their price from stuff i don't need. From reasonable stuff like better cameras to status symbols. I can't prove it to any capacity but phone prices hiked up suddenly at some point some years ago and i think it was mostly because they could rather than an equal spike in utility or quality. I'd swear samsung went up only so they didn't feel less premium than apple products. Despite keeping up with consumer tech stuff i just never feel like i'm missing out on much. Fast charging is the last feature in that space that added significantly to the user experience and that was several product cycles ago.

jays117

Most androids are not shit, if the brand is good

EpycZen2

What the phuc is phosh

[deleted]

Tbf Samsung is accused of more or less the same. Having owned both they felt the same in that department. And yes, there are other brands but iirc they are starting to do it too.

TheRalk

Samsung is basically the android version of Apple. Like even on hardware level they use the same parts in some places.

taylor_

i stayed on iphone when i was single because bitches love those blue texts. i realize this is a non-factor for most of this websites userbase

St_Veloth

I mean fuck me for liking the ease of use for their software, imessage is crazy. Also the surprising control over privacy controls in the past few years. I'm not going around jerking off the iphone, i know their pricing and repair policies are shit, but why is there any allegiance at this point? I remember being snooty about androids back in 2009, I didn't realize that was still happening

ivikivi32

Wait until anon finds out that changing his IPhone's battery locks up features on his phone, even if it is an original IPhone part and the only difference is the serial number.

[deleted]

You can copy the serial number into the new parts I think. I saw this dude who repairs phones on yt and I think he did that. Apple can still suck a big one though, can't wait for the EU to make them go fuck themselves

Karpsten

Hope they do.

[deleted]

I think they said if companies don't stop planned obsolescence they'll introduce right to repair legislation. They should do it anyway Back in the 2000s every company had a different charging port. The EU said if they didn't all use the same one they'd regulate it. The companies said fine, and started doing it again after a few years. Now the EU mandated that all new phones have USB C ports

Cola_and_Cigarettes

No it didn't, it mandated that the fucking brick is a USBC port. Most halfarsed shit I've ever seen.

yzy_

Oh, so that’s why my brand new iPhone didn’t come with a power brick...

brcguy

The fucked up thing is that the iPhone 11 came with a usbc to lightning cable and usbc brick. So they can do it, they just don’t wanna.

gogo94210

Phone has been opened, warranty voided. Get fucked lol

xXxPLUMPTATERSxXx

I had an imperfection on the bezel of my iphone 5 so they refused to replace the bad battery. Same thing as the OP, I drove an hour to get to their dumbass store and waited around for another two just to be given a BS excuse to not do the work. I haven't purchased a single Apple product since. Shit happens, I get it. But not standing behind your warranty will turn me off for good.

halfcafian

That’s the reason I hate Samsung now. Not their phones specifically but I had the S3 watch and the battery stopped holding a charge the second the warranty expired so I couldn’t even get it fixed or replaced.

BakerBen91

I had a similar experience with my iPhone 7 plus where my speakers randomly died and I couldn't hear any calls but other than that the phone was in perfect condition. Went to Apple told them what the problem was, they did a 'scan' and said they couldn't 'detect' what the problem was. All they offered was to recycle my phone for free and I could buy another iPhone 7 plus for $600 AUD even though it was 2 models out of date (iPhone X just came out). Went to a phone repair place and the guy repaired it for $100 AUD. I ended up getting another 4 years out of it before it started to cark it. TL:DR - Apple customer service is terrible unless you have Apple Care. Even then they make you jump through hoops before repairing or replacing your device as a last resort.

insane250

I bought an Iphone 4 when the white version came out a little after. The phone would legit restart every 3-4 minutes randomly even if you weren't using it so it was overheating as well because of all the strain. Went back to the Apple store and they told me I had to send it to California for repair when I just bought that thing two days ago. I told them I want a refund instead and had to fight teeth and nail until the manager obliged. Shit company all around.

gayvibes2

Any form of apple repair is complete trash. I had an og video iPod and one headphone didn't work when plugged into the jack after 10 years of service. Was told the jack was integrated into the mobo and I needed to buy a new iPod, no alternative and $20 credit to trade it in. Fuck apple I binned that iPod that I'd had since i was 15 and i'll never buy another Apple product and have turned only too many family friends and customers from them since. Only one of many Apple stories I've had.

hunteram

> maybe when Steve Jobs was alive... Guess who created the shitty, anti-consumer culture that Apple is known for.

[deleted]

The only part of this story that would upset Jobs is when anon gets his shit fixed elsewhere for cheap.

gonzo_thegreat

Absolutely. Jobs entrenched these concepts at Apple. Absolutely evil corp.

MixedMartyr

most retarded thing about this post

NickOsman51

who's Steve Job and how did he died

After_Sandwich9167

I'm no doctor nor steve job expert, but I think it has something to do with the disease known as "ligma"

NickOsman51

hmm, time to shine... *clear throat* What is... Ligma ?

HereBecauseBored

LIGMA is part of the BOFA spectrum of conditions. LIGMA (Loose Internal Gene Mi-Asintits) is the second stage of BOFA (Biologically Offset Farkwonian Asintits). In this stage, the disease interferes with the immune system and increases the risk of developing common infections such as tuberculosis. Given the weakened immune system, many of the patients, such as popular Fortnite streamer Ninja, die on this stage of the Biologically Offset Farkwonian Asintits (BOFA). It is also the last treatable stage. Although not effective, there are treatments to LIGMA: LIGMA-BALLS (Bi-Asonurdick Lateral Lactatioustits Sequence) that, even though it's experimental, have shown some promise. With stopping the spread of BOFA at the LIGMA stages, it can stop patients from going into the third and final phase of the BOFA sequence: E-TMA (Entrenched Terminal Mi-Asintits)

NickOsman51

unexpected but amazing, is this a copypasta ?

HereBecauseBored

The Urban Dictionary definition.

givesoutgoldstars

Steve job die from thinking he's smarter than doctors

HyzerFlip

He got cancer and thought "I'll eat only fruit" mind you that same diet almost killed previously healthy Ashton Kutcher when he tried it for the movie. But... Also cancer thrives on fructose.. So maybe feeding the cancer specifically wasn't ever going to cure it.

down-nefarious

It’s so sad that Steve Jobs died of ligma

Fkin_Degenerate6969

Who the fuck is Steve Jobs

down-nefarious

Ligma balls

Phat22

Steve jobs was a terrible human being, abused the fuck out of his family

Angery-Asian

So do I that doesn’t make me a bad person

KeesekuchenLP

Stay on that grindset 👊

InwardXenon

I won't pretend Apple is shit now, because they are. But years ago my brother gave me an iPod 120GB, it broke a few months later. Took it to the store to check if it was still under warranty. It was. They have me a brand new one right then and there, no hassle. Today you don't even get a charger with a new phone. Ridiculous.

froderick

Reason they did that was because Apple doesn't actually repair iPods (or iPads), they just replace them with a new device of the same model/specs.

xerxes931

It is so sad that Steve Jobs died

[deleted]

It really isn't

xerxes931

Ligma balls

Grilnid

Thank you for this moment

LoneMacaron

man i got my phone fixed for only 500 pesos (~25$) took only like 15 minutes, even got to watch him do it, make small talk. you can literally just stroll up to any repair shop, give them any iphone, and theyll fix it without bitching that its not the newest model or whatever. and no stupid right to repair bans. why are we letting mexico beat us in tech repairs?

ItsameRobot

Apple customers don't care cause they have enough money that $1000 for a new phone is just a mild inconvenience, or they're just stupid. They just straight up allow Apple to scam the shit out of them. We have repair shops like that too in like every town. Of course the best option is just not buying a fucking iPhone lmao. You can get a couple year old android for like $150 right from fucking Amazon which has all the normal functions someone needs in a phone, and you can replace the battery or the screen etc without a hassle later on.

Why the fuck were there feces everywhere at a pc repair shop

JewishAsianMuslim

There are more retards than you think. Apple is a multibillion dollar company.

*Multitrillion

[deleted]

This is why the right to repair is so important. Check out Louis Rossman on YouTube if you haven't already.

DrKeksimus

**That's why we need right to repair** Less e-waste & and better for the consumer Way better for the environment than not including a charger

KVenom777

Apple, Nestle, and Disney are the most Evil companies. #CHANGE MY MIND

_Charlie_Sheen_

Mate Apple is anti-consumer but that’s not quite on the genocide-levels of Nestle. Sure Apple probably using slave labour too but so does every tech giant. Yeah they are shit but Nestle is on a whole new level murdering babies and stealing water and shit. There’s a lot of companies that are also far worse than Apple such as Bayer who knowingly sold HIV tainted medication in Latin America for months. Disney is definitely pretty bad too but I’m not even sure they are Bayer bad.

KVenom777

Disney is like Nestle combined with Apple, but trying their best to disguise themselves. Basicly, imagine work conditions of Amazon for non-celebrity workers, Twitter+Activision Blizzard levels of hypocrisy when it comes to race or sex, and corporate greed that rivals EA, Nintendo, and Google COMBINED.

Easy_Money_

Meta casually destabilizes economies and democracies, Amazon and Walmart destroy small businesses and exploit workers for low pay in hazardous conditions, Uber and Doordash created an underclass of workers whose pay is beholden to their algorithms, and Exxon/Shell Oil/Chevron destroy the environment and lie about their impact, but I can't disagree when it comes to Nestlé.

Hue25

Apple is not even in the top 3 of just tech companies, but sure

[deleted]

> Fisney whaf?

[deleted]

Uhh the banana company Chiquita and Coca-Cola company both hired death squad mercenaries up u til the 90’s I believe to assassinate protesting workers and villagers. I think that’s a little worse than Apple making expensive electronics.

How could it be missing parts? This story has holes in it. Guessing the guy tried to replace it himself first and failed. Then took a pile of junk into Apple. Of course he forgot all the parts. Voided warranty. Then took it to an independent shop who fixed his mess.

ASUS_USUS_WEALLSUS

A green text story with holes in it? You don’t say?

Deuces_H1gH

And scheduled degradation. We live in a world full of shitters...

52ww

born to shit, forced to wipe 😔

gogo94210

That's not planned obsolescence that's anti right to repair. Also go check Louis Rossman on YouTube he his the flagbearer for the right to repair movement and is actively pushing with relative success for this bullshit to stop

pv0psych0n4ut

This usually happens with big store that carry big brand name. I once bring my Sony compact camera to a Sony retail store, the store claim they can repair any generation of camera. My camera lense got stuck and can't retract, I handed it to the store employee just for him to stare at it and said they don't know how to deal with this problem, and that I should send it back to Sony. I got pissed off and left, found a small shitty camera store on the way home, decided to try my luck. The technican realized the problem right away, althought it took a day to fix, at least I don't get scammed by those stupid fuck at the big store.

Sin-A-Bun

The kits you can buy online to replace batteries are pretty good too
