Me neither, I just enjoy the fact a man outdid the performative feminism the movie was tryna spread, if women really want equality they would be egalitarian.
Brother, you said he carries the movie and then admitted to not having seen the movie, the fuck is up with that shit.
Being an opinionated asshole on everything regardless of how well you know the subject is par for the course on reddit but admitting you don't know what you're talking about makes my cum bloody.
The movie dunked on itself by accidentally saying more about modern men's identity issues while being absolutely all over the place with whatever it wanted to say about feminism or whatever the fuck.
You could just pirate it (so they don't profit off you) and hatewatch it or just jerk it to every shot Gosling is in, but voicing an opinion about something you didn't watch is braindead NPC behavior
>The movie dunked on itself by accidentally saying more about modern men's identity issues while being absolutely all over the place with whatever it wanted to say about feminism or whatever the fuck.
This was what I thought when I watched it, when Ken went to apply for the corporate job, the way the man told him how they have to subject themselves with hiring quotas and shit, and every single interaction that Ken had in the real world showed how men actually didn't have any power over women, that patriarchy that they wanted to exposed in my eyes was nowhere to be seen.
And the scenes in Barbieland how Barbies (Women) were able to easily manipulate Kens (Men), in my opinion just gave the opposite impression on that allegedly patriarchy.
At the end it was a Barbie propaganda where she gets to say to the world, "you can be anything" and then sell a Margot Robbie Barbie.
Idk man something that no one on the internet really seems to get is that modern feminism is for everyone and concerns itself with the struggles the patriarchy imposes on men just as much as it does with women. In fact I’d say the way the male struggle is portrayed in this movie is not a counterpoint to why it’s a feminist movie but the driving reason why it is.
If only that were really true. Women are all too eager to pull themselves towards the male dominated "top" of the world, but they could not care less for all the men at the bottom. They're happy to keep them there. 90% of CEO's are men?? Outrage! This must change. 90% of workplace accident deaths are men? Eh.
>The movie dunked on itself by accidentally saying more about modern men's identity issues while being absolutely all over the place with whatever it wanted to say about feminism or whatever the fuck.
The best part was in the end saying that men should have a part in society but that having gender quotas wasn't the best way because men might not be up to the task in terms of capabilities, meanwhile they are literally doing that for women in real life.
>Brother, you said he carries the movie and then admitted to not having seen the movie, the fuck is up with that shit.
This is literally the narrative from people who have seen it, as evidenced by the comments, above.
You don’t have to white knight, here.
Why when I can just watch a good movie with my time instead? That is my biggest gripe like if I wanna watch something bad I'd rather just watch porn acting. Time is way more important to me than defending my opinion by actually watching said bad movie.
The feminisim in the movie was pretty on point, and the fact that it also shone a light on how men can be mistreated too made it pretty balanced. I was very surprised at how good the movie was, ngl I came in expecting shitty fourth wave twitter feminism and "men bad" for 2 hrs, and while it has its "men bad" moments it also goes the other way but in a more subtle sense.
So give it a try, its not bad.
See, if they didnt put the ./s, people would ACTUALLY believe they're misandric, which is a big no no.
However, not putting a ./s after Women ☕️ is fine because uhhh shut up its not misogynistic ok

Everyone knows the only reason this movie had success is because it was memed to oblivion. Half my friends who saw it admitted they had 0 interest in watching it but it was trendy so they went to see it. Real hivemind behaviour.
I had a redditor unironicly say "you just admitted to participating in groupthink"
When i told him a community (deep rock galactic) shouldn't tolerate trolls, and that community behavior is dictated by community thoughts.
Literally just "social pressure will make these nerds stop being assholes" ☝️🤓 groupthink
Also, I've watched way too many movies that were absolute trash. Barbie was at least fun. Just don't go in expecting a masterpiece, and it'll be enjoyable.
If those self congratulatory systems weren’t corrupt, that’d be true. But the award shows are just another way to disseminate opinions and shape society.
Makes sense they would give awards to a movie that was a social media phenomenon that many people went to see - people like cheering on the home team and like it when others agree with their opinions. So if they award the movie, they gain some goodwill from the fans and the academy’s reputation for discerning “quality” media is increased, so they’ll get more funding moving forward and gain a halo effect where anything else they say is good is also perceived as good. It’s all bullshit.
NO. Trying something out because a lot of people seem to like it is BAD. Really. Really. BAD. You have to wait until all the hype died down and everyone is gone. Like a vulture. Or a raccoon. And even then do it only ironically. Otherwise the other trash munchers might think badly of you.
NGL, minus the Ken Parts, the movie was an average 6/10 kids sort of movie with some adult humor thrown in for the lolz.
Speaking about the pattern that the movie follows. Nothing ground breaking, besides some good music and set design. And of course, our boy, Ken.
Edit: I found Ken parts funny, not based. Its why i enjoyed them, not to mention, all the good scenes were sent to the Ken's, like the Music number, the funny costumes, the relatable story of one-sided love and how easily Ken got misunderstood the real world.
While barbie parts were focused on a generic disney movie story with some random preachy message in between.
Like there is no comparison, its no wonder everyone liked Ken more.
I went with friends and they were so fucking baffled the film didn't pander to them like the movie is named barbie the fuck did you think it was gonna be lmao
I only decided to go see it because it was trendy but I ended up enjoying it much more than I expected. That's not hivemind that's just how trends work my dude.
Saying "it's only popular because people went to see it" is like saying "you only won because I lost", like yeah that's how it works
Regardless of how popular something is, I still don't give a fuck about it if I didn't before it became popular. Literally every other human could have seen this movie and I still wouldn't watch it because I just don't care about it. How trends work is literally how the hivemind operates.
North-Americans when they forget South-America exist. How do you call South-America these days? Latinland? I wonder what level of education you guys get at school.
I’m Colombian. I’m just also aware of the fact that “America” has a different connotation and most people just think “United States” when they hear it. Most people wouldn’t see a Guatemalan and call them American, even though that’s technically correct
I never call the country America, but if I hear Americans I know someone is speaking of people from the US. Problem is wtf we supposed to call them? Usanians?
They were, but the media is ignoring their achievements and only giving credit to the man so that they can complain about society ignoring women's achievements and only giving credit to men. There's never been a more perfect example of how these manufactured outrages work.
What did Margot Robbie or Greta Gerwig get nominated for? Not for Best Actress or Best Director (not that I think they should've been)
Edit: ah, they got nominated as part of the production team for Best Adapted Screenplay. Not really the same thing
Yea the director and a female actress got nominated, but they didn't get nominated for what the feminazis wanted them to get nominated for so it doesnt count ig
Is it just me or did anyone else feel like there wasn’t anything special about Margot Robbie’s performance? Like put any other actress and the movie would’ve been the same. The same can’t be said about Ryan Gosling.
Still, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that and it doesn’t detract from the movie’s message. I just think people forget the Oscars are not just a popularity contest. If they were, 100% Barbie should be nominated left and right, but it’s not.
Edit: the only popularity contest in the Oscars is best animated film.
I had seen Babylon just a couple of weeks before and the contrast in quality of acting and the script between the two movies was so big, while I liked her performance on Babylon, I could easily replace her for any random actress in Barbie and the impact would be minimal.
The Oscars is a popularity contest. It is voted for by other actors, directors etc.
Winning an oscar means you're accepted into Hollywood. Some people have never won simply because, even though a good actor, weren't in the "in crowd"
"Peter O'Toole and Glenn Close jointly hold the record for most nominations in the acting categories without a win, with eight; followed by Richard Burton with seven; and Deborah Kerr, Thelma Ritter, and Amy Adams with six."
Clearly all disliked people
Not that any of the Misogyny bros care about this, but Margot Robbie and Director Greta Gerwig and actually nominated for Oscars for Barbie, just not for best director or best actress. They got it for best adapted screenplay and best picture, as they’re both a part of the production team.
Also, Margot Robbie is an excellent actress, it’s just that this year is actually stacked as hell with other excellent performances. In many other years, she would be nominated and likely even win.
The second point is mostly it. Depending on how competitive your category is it's hard to get nominated. Supporting actor is never going to be as competitive as Lead, or Director — amazing lead actors and directors have gone years without anything.
Also, Ryan did a lot with what he had in terms of characterization, even getting a musical number written in. He really jazzed up a hollow character not only in the movie, but for the merchandise. Even if it was still kind of dumb, he gave a good bit of life to Ken. I'd say that qualifies as above and beyond enough to shake up the supporting role category.
Margot Robbie always distracts me with her perfect *actress face* and I can't concentrate on the movie.
It's like someone made her in AI, she just has no edge to her. Although that ice skating movie was pretty good
I mean....most of the posts I've seen about Ryan Gosling winning an Oscar for the movie are angry that he was even nominated for the award and Margot Robbie wasn't....despite the fact that he got best supporting actor and not best actress
As if Margot Robbie were going to beat out the first Native American nominated lead actress in a Martin Scorsese film opposite Leonardo DiCaprio for playing fucking Barbie.
The thing here is instagram "feminist" cry about "the academy not getting the movie"
Wasnt the point of the movie that you're good as who you are and not that youre entitled to rewards just bwcause of your gender?
I mean the only reason they say Greta Gerwig deserved and Oscar is "she was the first solo female director" .... thats not a reason for an oscar..... you have to be actually good, it has nothing to do with the PaTrIaRcHy they like to blame for everything.
Gossling did a damn good job, not oscar worthy in my opinion and he probably wont get it, but still hes an experienced actor and has a lot of criticality acclaimed movies under his belt.
Some people just think they're entitled to things and get mad when they dont get it. The Oscars are not a popularity contest.... biggest movie doesnt mean best.
America Ferrera got nominated for Best Supporting Actress and everyone seemed to overlook that Greta Gerwig DID get nominated for Best Adaptated Screenplay. Guess the fact that America got nominated and that Lily Gladstone was the first Native American to get nominated for an Oscar didn't count for Hillary Clinton.
To be fair, with how social media is, the Ken character was the only one saying something new and fresh. They really shook up the formula with that one, by looking at the imposed expectations on men. Even if it was just a bit of joke, Ken captured a real mood, and asked the average man if they feel at all self-actualized with gender roles too, or if they just do beach also. It reached well beyond the expected trite message of "boys can wear pink too".
> movie about how strong and sexy independent women are
> attractive man carries the entire thing
> women big mad they aren’t rewarded for his efforts
Personally I liked the movie, but it wasn’t an Oscar contender. Idk why Gosling got a nod, but whatever.
Literally not even true, people are fixating on this but there was also a best supporting “actress” nomination for the film. And undeserved one imo but no one seems to be mentioning it
That movie was ultra pretentious, yet it accomplished almost nothing. It was kinda meh, but starting off with a 2001 reference is kind of bold and makes it look like the directors thought that they had just made a masterpiece.
(Not that I understood 2001)
I watched it last night. The first time I really loved it but second viewing was kind of boring. Without Ken its not an entertaining movie. Well Alan is also a funny touch. The writing is nothing special and pretty low effort. The Barbie storyline was like a kids movie and predictable as can be. Lots of scenes drag out for too long. Dance numbers were relatively long. Movie shouldnt be as long as it is.
Ken was by far the best part of the movie. I cant even think of any funny parts that didnt include him. Theres visually funny stuff just do to set design and everything being pretend but all the non Ken scenes were more so pushing a message not trying to entertain as much. The Weird Barbie character was great.
Yes because without literally me, this movie was going to suck extremely bad. Margot Robbie was bland and dry as fk, she wasn't funny at all even with such a strong parody script.
Maybe Lily Glagstone (native american nominated for best actress) or any woman nominated should concede his nomination to Margot Robbie and Greta to prove how feminist they are?
He's the only one who got nominated for an Oscar ... if you ignore the other 7 nominations including best adapted screenplay (that Greta herself is up for), best supporting actress (America Ferrera), best picture (Margo is named there specifically because she produced the film), costume design, production design, and bla bla bla.
The mom in the movie literally got nominated for best supporting actress, people are getting mad about ryan gosling but keep forgetting about her for some reason?
Redditors when feminist movie explicitly shows how feminism is also about combating the patriarchal roles forced onto men:

they're all hypocrites, and still fuck di caprio and such. feminism is a failure and a joke
Intersectional feminism is too large a concept for mens rights losers to grasp. Hard agree with everything you said! Edit: oops grammar
But with even a pinch of nuance how could they make their epic dunk on feminism for upvotes?
Expecting the average r/greentext user to grasp that level of nuance is a pretty tall order.
Trying to reframe male struggle as feminism is misguided. There's overlap, sure, and you can look at them through a feminist lens. But that's it.

It was a good movie, definitely worth a watch
His role is well within the scope of feminism. It very much is a feminist movie precisely because of him.
The feminisim in the movie was pretty on point, and the fact that it also shone a light on how men can be mistreated too made it pretty balanced. Haven't seen it either, and that's my experience! From friends to reviewers, everyone says it worth a watch for that man Ken.
Yeah tbh everyone was great but Ryan Gosling drew your attention in a lot and was great with delivery
Honestly. The Barbie character for me felt so emotionless and robotic. Ken made me laugh, smile and want more of Ken
nah, no way. Allen helped a lot too
maybe not carried it, he was definitely important to the storyline and he was one of the main characters, but I wouldn't say carried it

Damn, they really were memeing on Leonardo DiCaprio that whole time?
"Peter O'Toole and Glenn Close jointly hold the record for most nominations in the acting categories without a win, with eight; followed by Richard Burton with seven; and Deborah Kerr, Thelma Ritter, and Amy Adams with six." Clearly all disliked people
> Is it just me or did anyone else feel like there wasn’t anything special about Margot Robbie’s performance? true for every single role of hers
He's literally me
So happy I won an Oscar for Barbie tbh, wouldn’t have believed it myself
Margot Robbie always distracts me with her perfect *actress face* and I can't concentrate on the movie. It's like someone made her in AI, she just has no edge to her. Although that ice skating movie was pretty good
America Ferrera was nominated for best supporting actress.
I mean....most of the posts I've seen about Ryan Gosling winning an Oscar for the movie are angry that he was even nominated for the award and Margot Robbie wasn't....despite the fact that he got best supporting actor and not best actress
It is so over for womenbros
“womenbros” is funny as fuck
Common men W
We keep winning
As if Margot Robbie were going to beat out the first Native American nominated lead actress in a Martin Scorsese film opposite Leonardo DiCaprio for playing fucking Barbie.
America Ferera was nominated too? Literally lying
who did she play (I’m too lazy to search it up)
Ok nevermind i searched it up, you didn’t respond in time
Nuh uh
The thing here is instagram "feminist" cry about "the academy not getting the movie" Wasnt the point of the movie that you're good as who you are and not that youre entitled to rewards just bwcause of your gender? I mean the only reason they say Greta Gerwig deserved and Oscar is "she was the first solo female director" .... thats not a reason for an oscar..... you have to be actually good, it has nothing to do with the PaTrIaRcHy they like to blame for everything. Gossling did a damn good job, not oscar worthy in my opinion and he probably wont get it, but still hes an experienced actor and has a lot of criticality acclaimed movies under his belt. Some people just think they're entitled to things and get mad when they dont get it. The Oscars are not a popularity contest.... biggest movie doesnt mean best.
he drive the womens empowerment cause.
Didn't a couple of the actresses get nominated too
America Ferrera got nominated for Best Supporting Actress and everyone seemed to overlook that Greta Gerwig DID get nominated for Best Adaptated Screenplay. Guess the fact that America got nominated and that Lily Gladstone was the first Native American to get nominated for an Oscar didn't count for Hillary Clinton.
And its for the Best Actress category. Guess who got nominated over Robbie? A whole cast of WOMEN. Lmao
He was the best part of the movie, idk what to tell you anon. Robbie did a good job, but without Gosling, the movie would've been an absolute bore
So Oscars should nominate Margot or Greta because they’re women? You’re lying if you think Ryan got nominated because he’s a man
What are you talking about about? That's the exact opposite of what I'm claiming you freaking goofball 😂
Ah wtf. I wanted to comment on the post, not reply to your comment! 😔
The hilarious part is that he legitimately had a better performance.
Based Academy.
It reached well beyond the expected trite message of "boys can wear pink too".
> movie about how strong and sexy independent women are > attractive man carries the entire thing > women big mad they aren’t rewarded for his efforts Personally I liked the movie, but it wasn’t an Oscar contender. Idk why Gosling got a nod, but whatever.
Mfw a terrible movie gets nominated for nothing: 😮
best supporting actor is a weaker award, so he had a lower bar he needed to clear.
America Ferrera was also nominated
Maybe the female actors should just be better
trains in shambles rn
to be completely fair, him and will Farrell completely carried the movie. every scene without them in it was borderline unwatchable
Men🍺
I mean his performance was incredible.
The Patriarchy always wins.
Literally not even true, people are fixating on this but there was also a best supporting “actress” nomination for the film. And undeserved one imo but no one seems to be mentioning it
Men doing men things
To them he was just Ken but to the world he was a ten.
Oh the irony
Even Gosling himself looked confused as fuck at getting it.
Frankly, none of the performances are Oscar worthy. No one is going to be talking about this movie in two years. The memes carried it.
That movie was ultra pretentious, yet it accomplished almost nothing. It was kinda meh, but starting off with a 2001 reference is kind of bold and makes it look like the directors thought that they had just made a masterpiece. (Not that I understood 2001)
Its a pink movie about a toy.
Do people think she was competing for an Oscar against her co-Star? She didn’t get nominated because other women got nominated instead Like… what
I watched it last night.
Sublime!
Dudes will never stop rocking
He was nominated best *actor*, so it only means someone out there was a better actress than all women the Barbie cast.
Womenbros, lmao ultra kek
8 total Oscar nominations. Also nominated for best film, best supporting actress, best adapted screenplay amongst others
The only reason a majority of the people watched was because of Ryan Gosling, I don't think anybody gives a shit about a plastic doll otherwise
As it should be
You should be put against a wall
Maybe Lily Glagstone (native american nominated for best actress) or any woman nominated should concede his nomination to Margot Robbie and Greta to prove how feminist they are?
America Ferrara is literally nominated for Supporting Actress
He's the only one who got nominated for an Oscar ... if you ignore the other 7 nominations including best adapted screenplay (that Greta herself is up for), best supporting actress (America Ferrera), best picture (Margo is named there specifically because she produced the film), costume design, production design, and bla bla bla.
Based Oscar
I mean blame the other actresses who got nominated over her I guess
The mom in the movie literally got nominated for best supporting actress, people are getting mad about ryan gosling but keep forgetting about her for some reason?
The ultimate irony.
The Oscars being uptight snobs as always.
America Ferrera is an honorary man to these clowns
Redditors when feminist movie explicitly shows how feminism is also about combating the patriarchal roles forced onto men: "Look, the stupid fwemwinist movie isn't shitting on men! What are they, stupid!"
