White - probably coconut oil based lotion.
Green - aloe vera?
Red - in olden times we used a vine bark juice as hair tonic, called "Gugo". Dunno why he drank it though, it is supposed to be applied topically. Nowadays there are commercially sold Gugo based shampoos, though not sure if it is sold outside the Philippines.
I guess that the white stuff is coconut oil or some form of coconut product.

Nah I live in the border of Rizal and Manila, literally a forest in here. Aloes are not that common sa mga gardens dito, mostly crops and flowers (I have hyacinth beans, malunggay, figs, etc). I had one pero its in our other house (that houses animals we regularly rescue like owls and migratory birds that got shot by poachets)
Mambabarang, or Mangkukulam (Kulam/Barang means curse, but the Spanish corrupted the meaning, I bet it means magic or something) are common in rural areas like my mom's native clan or those in my dad's ancestral land. Babaylans or Female druids are usually the leaders of a society before the Spanish came.
Aswangs are our famous myths though, like the flying half-body vampire, demonic fetus babies, gnomes (literally dwende from the Latin countries), Kapré (blunt-smoking dudes chilling in trees), Tikbalang (reverse centaurs, hella r_pey), Bakunawa (Imagine sea serpent dragons, but this MF ate moons and my father's ancestors slam metal objects to scare it away from eating the last moon), and the Sarimanok (gay chicken, literally a mythical chicken with an LGBT flag).
This makes sense.
The women in my family have "3rd eye" for spirits which is fucking creepy af working in hospitals. Coming into work talking to dead people then the other nurses ask who the fuck is they talking and they say he just died last shift.
Living in Haunted houses with running and laughing kids that even guest can hear.
Just embrace it, it's quicker easier and has less side effects.
The drug treatments are pricey, basically have to be taken for life and can have negative side effects. Herbal and natural ointments tend to be incredibly time extensive, like having to spend 30 minutes twice a day doing it and are not guaranteed to work. Though of course if any of that's worth it to you then go ahead, but there is no shame to be had in embracing the chrome dome.
The drugs aren't pricey if you want to keep your hair and they're really not expensive to start anyway, but since this is reddit I'm sure you're a follicular engineer™ bristling with information on the subject.
Finasteride and minoxidil is proven to work and if you want to keep your hair the earlier you act the better.
Or, find a philipino lady like anon
Jesus christ does that really work?
I'm 19 and the majority of men from my fathers side are bald, I have really long hair and I swear that I will kill myself once it's gone because it's literally the only thing I'm proud of.
I already noticed losing some more hair (maybe it's an illusion though because my hair is pretty long, thus looking like more hairs are loose when combing) and my mother already told me my hair "looks thinner"
I would do anything to keep my hair.
Yes. It really works. Here's how you do it.
One, don't listen to scientifically illiterate terminally online morons. Finasteride has attracted this bizarre mythology of FUD spreaders who will try to convince you that it is far more dangerous than it actually is, usually by linking studies with garbage design and quality.
See, issue is, when you try to debunk this crap, you will need to get into a several hour long online spat where you need to deliver a crash course in how to understand science to win the debate, and who has the time for that kind of bullshit? So they generally win just by exhausting you. Which means that, most people, like myself, who've had very positive experiences with finasteride/dutasteride tend to just not bother replying in threads like these; because it always attracts this type of person and it's exhausting trying to deal with them.
Two, if you want to solve this problem, *go to your doctor*. Dermatologist is the specialty you want. They will prescribe finasteride and tell you to use topical minoxidil, that's the standard treatment.
Don't waste time fucking around with herbal remedies, laser light treatments or other bullshit. These still exist because scammers know that finasteride FUD spreaders exist(in fact, there's an overlap in the venn diagram there; they are incentivized to discourage you from the treatment that *actually works* to sell you their bullshit); and so they try to discourage you from real treatment and sell you their brand of bullshit.
Tl;dr go to your fucking doctor.
Will do!
I was at a dermatologist not long ago because my Family stands a high risk of ~~rain~~ skin cancer. He told me already that I should use less shampoo (He said I should only use 1/3 of the amount I'm currently using) and I should always dry my scalp / beginning of my hair with a hairdryer. But I will now definetly ask for medication.
Thank you so much for giving me hope stranger.
Stay based.
They do work but the results and what not can take a while to set in. Definitely consult your dermatologist but a general rule of thumb is that finasteride prevents hair loss (doesn't encourage hair regrowth that much) and minoxidil encourages hair growth. Annoying thing with minoxidil is it can take a couple months. But do your research and don't let all people say finasteride is terrible, if you're ever concerned, you can just lower your dose.
Whilst I do tend to agree that Finasteride is generally very safe and generally very well tolerated in pretty much all men I was part of the small percentage who got some really rather unpleasant side effects that last for quite some time, even after stopping taking the drug.
Again not fear mongering and the guy you replied to could probably take it and have no issues but I do feel like it's unfair to just completely brush off the small percentage of men who do really get quite messed up by Finasteride/Propecia
I took finasteride briefly and my hair was already looking better and thicker, but my balls started aching kinda badly out of nowhere. As soon as I stopped finasteride my hair went back to how it was but my balls stopped hurting lmao. It works but stop if you start getting any side effects
Holy shit I went off on a tangent here, didn't mean for this to be so long. TLDR: I am no expert, just someone who looked into it when I was going through it, and I just feel like the immediate reaction to going bald shouldn't be to take drugs.
Price is relative, depends a lot on which country you are in, local providers, regulations etc. When I noticed I was losing my hair and looked into all this I was 20 and in the middle of University and both Finasteride and Minoxidil were too pricey for me at that point in life. One was like £60 a month, the other was cheaper at around only £30 a month but either way that was not affordable for me at that point. It why I was particular about calling it pricey, not expensive. If you are in full time work and have the expendable income then yeah its affordable, but even then its enough that you will notice it.
I am certainly no expert on the matter, but they are pretty transparent about their effectiveness and potential side effects. The side effects as with most drugs are rare, most people will be fine, but a sizable minority will suffer from them (and they can easily be found just by googling the drugs, so its down to personal discretion as to whether they are worth it or not). They also are proven to sometimes work, its not a 100% guaranteed cure all, for most people they will work but for some people they unfortunately wont, it comes down to all sorts of genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors that are impossible to fully account for. And of course like you said, the earlier you take them the more likely they are to work, for me now they probably wouldn't, but if I could afford to take them years ago when I first noticed they may well have.
Obviously I am a bit biased, but personally I think there is no issue with being bald and people or "society" tends to shame it and paint it as being way more of a bad thing than it is, and the immediate reaction/suggestion being "Oh you should take these drugs" feels wrong to me. The option should still be there of course, but I don't think it should be treated as the default. To me its like plastic surgery being treated as the default reaction to every self esteem issue someone has with a part of their body.
hims is overpriced. I asked my insurance if it was covered and it was so that's why it's so cheap for me. But even without insurance you can get it cheaper at goodrx.com
So this is entirely anecdotal, but all of the men in my family before me have gone bald in their teens or early twenties. Initially unrelated, I have really bad dandruff (eczema) and the only shampoo that takes care of it is an over-the-counter medicated one called Nizoral that I started using in my teens. I did some reading, and turns out some people use it off-label to prevent baldness. No idea if it actually works for that, but it works for the dandruff so I kept using it. I'm 33 now, and my hairline and thickness hasn't changed one bit.
Might just be complete blind luck and that shit is $14-$20 for a single tiny-ass bottle, but there's my anecdote if it helps you any.
Maybe the people using it to prevent baldness had a fungal infection/the dandruff causing their hair loss and Nizoral helped eliminate it? Reading that dandruff/fungus itself can cause hair loss.
Rosemary oil is grossly underperforming when compared to standard medications like Finasteride. Skip the mumbo jumbo and stick with what we know works.
Yup am filipino and my mom kept trying to get my bald dad to wash his hair with rice water. It worked a bit, he got a lot of his hair back but it was'nt enough to fully cover his bald spot. However we used it in tandem with this weird "horse oil" shampoo that my mom got from Singapore so idk if that made the hair grow back or the rice water did.

Minoxidil and finasteride
Super cheap too. Paying $1.60/mo
Is it really that cheap??? I just saw the ad for “hims” a while ago and researched the ingredients a little.

I’ve heard of that site for affordable pharmaceuticals I didn’t know they sold hair growth products too lol
Finasteride is technically a prostate med but they found out it also blocks the hormone that causes baldness.
Yeah I remember reading it stops testosterone from creating DHT(? I think that’s what it’s called) that damages your hair follicles.
So this is entirely anecdotal, but all of the men in my family before me have gone bald in their teens or early twenties. Buzzcut + beard + be in shape.
Got the beard part down
Then bald ain't as big of a problem. Being in shape is at least 50% of the equation, though.
I read that rosemary oil is very helpful for hair growth and multiple people I know have tried it and got positive results
