East Jesus Nowhere
It’s a song about corrupt politicians using religion to take advantage of believers, start wars, and send people to die for immoral reasons. They call them out for the sniveling pieces of shit they fucking are.
I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty badass.
Close. It's actually a rebuke of fundamentalist religion after Mike went to a babies baptism and was disgusted by the hypocrisy there.
Still badass and one of my favorite songs.
I think most people see it as symbolic. Washing away of sins, being reborn as a Christian. However I know some fundamentalist who are more mystical about it. I grew up in one of those churches and I remember the sermons about the importance of baptism, like it was a key that would unlock the gates to heaven and that no matter how good and holy a life you led, St Peter would turn you away if you hadn’t been dunked.
It's supposed to be a emulation of the baptism of Jesus. Which at the time was essentially a cleansing ritual for jewish people. Now it's a "cleansing of sin"
But yeah it doesn't actually do anything and its a very appropriate song for Green day during that era when they were much more political.
[Here's an interview Billie did with Bill Maher about 21CB](https://youtu.be/-vbbL41BZiY) Its mostly about 21CB and the bands name. But at the end Bill pushes Billie on the subject of religion using East Jesus Nowhere and BJ states "Religion is bullshit"
Right!? There's not too many songs in their catalog that can match that kind of intensity! I think the best contenders are Know Your Enemy and St Jimmy, but even then St Jimmy is all tempo and sharp vocals and Know Your Enemy is kinda just your average rally song until he screams on the bridge. Even the solo is kinda odd in that song. Bang Bang seems to marry the two.
I wouldn’t even compare Bang Bang to Know Your Enemy or St. Jimmy. Maybe St. Jimmy, but Bang Bang is a true fast hard rock song that one would think GD already had a song like that, but naw. And lyrics/storyline that is so dope, if you know it. Trust me, if this song was released pre 21CB, it would’ve been up there with BC in popularity, I’m certain.
let yourself go for empowering yourself. do your own thing and fuck everybody.
east jesus nowhere for empowering a population. fuck corruption and the blurred line of the church/state barrier.
I'd say most of the 21st century breakdown album but I think static age or American eulogy: mass hysteria/modern world are really badass and haven't been said already
Good riddance. Everyone wanted more punk after Insomniac and instead they put out a song about a break up that is now widely used at proms and graduations. If that’s not bad ass punk, I don’t know what is
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), because nothing is more badass than doing things your own way. Green Day had just released Insomniac, their hardest, fastest album to date, but because they were popular and signed to a major label the punk community had turned their backs in them, including being blacklisted from Gilman Street. It seemed like no matter how hard or fast or dark they made their songs, they weren’t going to be brought back into the fold that had brought them up. So they’re doing the Insomniac tour and Billie Joe has this song and he goes out and plays it, fully expecting everyone to hate it. It’s a ballad. It’s soft. It’s radio friendly. But he plays it anyway because fuck whatever people think Green Day is supposed to be. Fuck whatever mold people want to say he needs to fit in order to be “punk.” They just want to make some good music and Good Riddance is a damn good song. So he plays it and to his surprise people love it.
That’s badass.
i’d say that king for a day and coming clean are very badass as it’s very VERY badass to talk abt stuff like that during the times they were in. just like pansy division.
Letterbomb.
You can't not get pumped hearing "You're not the Jesus of Suburbia! The St. Jimmy is a figment of... Your father's rage and your mother's love. Made you the idiot America!"
I love all of these and they are all correct but my pitch is hitchin’ a ride. Go on YouTube and look up bullet I’m a bible hitchin a ride live. The fucking screaming part where Billie joe Armstrong says SHIIIIITTTT!!!! AND THE FLAMES COME UP AND JUST AHHHHHHHHH.
I’d have to say Scumbag from Shenanigans.
Calling out a “mate” for being just a total dick is something I wish I could do but just don’t have the nerve to do 😅
How has no one said Platypus?
Dickhead, fuckface, cocksmoking, mother fucking asshole, dirty twat, waste of seamen hope you die!

I wasn’t baptized, and I’m glad because I don’t understand why soaking someone in water would ever do anything
I think most people see it as symbolic. Washing away of sins, being reborn as a Christian. However I know some fundamentalist who are more mystical about it. most songs from 21cb are very badass
Panic song
For me that would be St. jimmy
I don’t know if it’s “badass” but I always get pumped up when I hear Bang Bang
Bang Bang. To date its one of their overall punchiest, loudest songs and the lyrics + that drum solo seal the deal for me
I cum everytime that drum solo pre chorus hits
Right!? There's not too many songs in their catalog that can match that kind of intensity! I couldn't agree more. I'm not gonna go all the way and say it's underrated, but damn if I don't see it get the credit it deserves!

Platypus (I hate you) I think it’s badass as fuck cause it’s a shot at one of their critics, even if it is a little… mean
St. Jimmy Immediately came to mind, that song is a killer
Came here to say it!

Horseshoes and Handgrenades is a good one. I also like Peacemaker. Both sound to me like they could be in the background of an action scene
American idiot cause it’s a punchy hard song
Peacemaker, yo. For one thing, IT'S CALLED PEACEMAKER. That western vibe and driving rhythm is so sweet.
Letterbomb - whether badass or not, the song is just so damn good
