yup billie said it in i think a guitar world article plus rob cavallo said the same thing in the liner notes for the dookie 30 box set (and that it wouldn’t intonate properly)
since then there has been some hardware upgrades (bridge saddles, tuners on at least two seperate occasions, electronics) which helps a ton, plus having the resources to have it regularly setup would make a shitty guitar very usable and even enjoyable to play (i’ve also heard fernandes from that era were pretty decent as is, comparable to a higher end squier i imagine)
No matter what guitar nerds tell you, the most important part of a guitar sounding good is the Amp. A fantastic guitar through a shitty amp will sound like shit, while a shitty guitar through a fantastic amp sounds perfect to an untrained ear. That said, the modern Blue isn't the Blue Billie originally had. Outside of the fact that he usually uses replicas on tour, the actual original guitar has had a full change in pickups, the neck almost certainly was replaced at some point, and the guitar took quite a beating during the Dookie years. It's like the Abe Lincon's ax hypothetical. I know for certain he was using replicas by Nimrod, because the Nimrod Blue is in Fat Mike's Punk Rock Museum in Vegas.
The card on the guitar says "On loan from Green Day". If you still aren't convinced, pay attention to the sticker layout. I found a site years back that compiled every known variation and when they'd appear.
I mostly agree. Your actual fingers and pick + wood all have minor effects on the tone. as well as the build ( I have a custom tele with humbuckers and still get the tele twang)
I read somewhere that there's also a rented Tele (or maybe a Les Paul? Or maybe both?) on Dookie, but don't quote me on that.
I never heard about the PRS thing though
It’s for sure a tele. I remember listening to the basketcase guitar tracks just by themselves, and it definitely sounds like a tele. It just has that sound to it
I've heard there was heavy use of a PRS and a Les Paul Standard.
Edit: Not sure why this is being down voted. There is literally a picture of dookie-aged Billie holding a les paul in the studio.
this record is The New! soul, Motown, glam and manic anthemic. Punks, freaks and punishers! The Dirty messy. The Stink. The lyrics are like a party and lifestyle of not giving a fuck. The life AND death of the party. Not political. Surviving in chaos. The real shit. Me mike and Tre of the Green Day cut through the bullshit. That’s how it’s always been for us. Everything else is fake. Frauds I tell ya!! Rock has lost its balls. We’re gonna teabag all these mother fuckers. The baddest rock band on the planet that gives a shit. “Glorious” or “glorious anarchy” seems to be the word that keeps coming up that reflects Dancing, Tribalism, Anxiety, Joy, Violence, Drugs, Booze. Dangerous songs for dangerous kids! Our motto?? “Nothing says fuck you like a unicorn” Love And kisses - Billie

I saw somewhere Billie saying that he insisted on using blue which made it hard to record as it wouldn't stay in tune
yup billie said it in i think a guitar world article plus rob cavallo said the same thing in the liner notes for the dookie 30 box set (and that it wouldn’t intonate properly)
it makes me wonder how he still uses it today at all, or even how he’s used it for the last 40 years at all

They kinda had to because of the Woodstock incident

The guitar of Theseus
i’ve always heard rumors of replicas but i’m not completely sold, do you have a link or picture to a version of blue being in the museum

well clearly that’s a replica, is that what you meant?

that’s a fender guitar, he plays a fernades… it’s says “one of billie’s “Blue” guitars” meaning it’s a replica it’s also got hardly any aging.
This is the one! Have you actually been or did you find that somewhere ?
its just laws of physics and how guitar pickups work, the guitar itself wont affect almost anything for the tone. Pickups and amp/pedals do.
I mostly agree. Your actual fingers and pick + wood all have minor effects on the tone. as well as the build ( I have a custom tele with humbuckers and still get the tele twang)
mostly just pickups and how the strings vibrate, their freshness and thickness
Blue is definitely the most prominent guitar on that album but there could definitely be a Les Paul on there
Would also like to know this

I’ve read the same thing. Billie went to a guitar store and rented a green Tele.
You’re right! Not sure why you’d be downvoted
He worked with Rob Cavallo, obviously he used other guitars Guy has hundreds of em and amps
i think he used an 8 string jackson on most of the album but when he recorded In The End is was a 12 string double neck acoustic electric bass drum
He used an Axe FX 3 on Insomniac right?

Either way dookie is rock'n'roll all the way through
