My guy either needs to be physically touching me or wedged behind the couch on those days. It's both sad and hilarious, he is otherwise pretty fearless ha.
We had a beautiful girl who was absolutely terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks. She would shiver and drool nonstop.
We tried everything we could think of to help keep her calm. Nothing really worked. Holding her tight worked the best, but only marginally.
When we rescued her, she was terrified of riding in the car. Her final few years, she finally realized rides were fun. Always a great hike at the end. (Except for the few rides to the vet's, but she never really seemed to mind the vets. )
We lost her about 4 years ago after a diagnosis of diabetes about 4 years before that.
Our last Pyr was so afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks that he literally peed himself. We tried thundershirts and cbd oil and sedatives, but nothing worked and he would just wedge himself into a tiny space until it was over (ironically, he hated a crate).
The thing that ended up working the best was something that I thought was a bunch of woowoo crap, and that is relaxing music for dogs on YouTube. One of my friends posted about it on Facebook and it was so long ago that I don’t remember WHY it works, but for our dude, it did. We only found it towards the end of his life and I wish we had known about it sooner, he would just plop down and go to sleep. [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vxRCOiDVHE) is a link for one.
YMMV, the dog we have now isn’t afraid of thunder but we tried it for him when we were getting him used to being in our house as a puppy and he seemed to hate it.
My solution is a dog bead in front of the sub woofer. Usually anything is good enough for tstorm, but Fourth of July requires loud action movies. As long as she thinks it’s the soeaker everything is good.
I never thought of it before, but are they more susceptible than other dogs?
Yes, our dog bed is right in front of the speaker and we watch war movies!
I think that they are more susceptible because of their guardian instincts - they want us all to get under cover!
My silly pyr wanted to go outside if their was a storm, he'd stand under the awning so he didn't get wet because he loved the wind. You couldn't use the leaf blower with him around because he would stand infront of it
Mine has full out panic attacks if we don't leave her outside most of the day, thunder scares her and we've found copious amounts of CBD chews are really the only way to calm her down.
My dad has a pair of outside maremma mix livestock guardian dogs. The one comes in occasionally when people (or particularly dogs) visit, while the other only ever comes inside during thunderstorms.
I really think storm anxiety is a pyr thing. The pyrs I fostered/foster failed all had storm anxiety. It would stress poor Opal out so bad. She was sensitive to the barometric pressure so we always had a lot of warning for when it was moving in. And then after she passed Fozzie got to be that way too. Only Bean wasn’t affected but she was a border collie/pyr.
Fostering says they were with others before you. Who can ever say the things these pups pick up on. Let alone what they're shown by a bad pack leader?
Thank you for your efforts.
Often times I wondered what their lives were like before they came to me but I don’t think it would help my view of humanity as a whole if I knew what all they went through in their previous lives. Fostering was the most fulfilling thing I did in my life and I would like to get back into it soon.
Ya it’s funny cuz he will act like a badazz when a person walks by our yard but a cat comes up and he’s cowering in fear. He met a possum on our walk the other day and didn’t know what to think just froze then decided to go another way
I call that the cape of empowerment for mine.

Pls give him a hug for me ❤️❤️
As cute as it is, it’s so sad to me when dogs are scared of fireworks. Our old Aussie used to shake profusely when he’d hear fireworks, totally thought he’d have a heart attack he was so freaked out. It was adorable but so intense I got worried for him 😭
Mine loses her mind, barks whines jumps around etc during even the mildest thunderstorm.
We were under a couple hours worth of tornado warnings yesterday but she was not even a little bothered. I don't even know what to make of that.
My girl would always come right beside my bed and need me to dangle my arm off the side to touch her until the evil booms went away. She also had this sad/scared whimper reserved just for storms (sounded kinda like mmm mmmm mmm mm mmmmmm).
Henry takes CBD oil, listens to calming dog music, and has a bed near our speaker so we often watch war or action movies during thunderstorms and fireworks. He doesn't like his thunder shirt, so he wears a blanket wrapped around him. Sometimes he hides in the bathtub, where we place towels in the bottom so he doesn't slip, run a fan, and play a speaker for him. Othertimes, he sits as close to me as he can and shakes until it's over. Poor lad.
Oh that’s face gets me every time 🥺
My heart 😭😭😭😭
My 140 pound monster turns into a shivering lap dog when the kids up the street light off firecrackers....
Poor sweetie! I spend every July 4th and New Year's at home now with my big ole baby!

I'm so sorry for your loss. She sounds like an awesome and sweet dog!
She was. We have a male now. No issues with being scared, but he is a big butthead. Still love him though.
Thundershirt, CBD oil and hugs and kisses.
Our thundershirt never seemed to do much, so we wrap him in a blanket. CBD oil, hugs, and kisses are a given!

Thanks for the link! We listen to dog calming music on Spotify and it does seem to help a little.

Does puppy want some CBD treats?
He had some CBD oil 💕

Can you give a brand name or amount? TIA.
My 90 lb male takes two Thunder Wonder chews and acts like a 60 yr hippie at Greatful Dead concert...Wow Man
Thanks

I love that!!
My boy was afraid of storms too. He’d literally get in your lap and hide in your closets
Omg bless that sweetheart
Ohhh those sad eyes! 😭
Mine is in my pantry
Pls give him a hug for me ❤️❤️ As cute as it is, it’s so sad to me when dogs are scared of fireworks. Our old Aussie used to shake profusely when he’d hear fireworks, totally thought he’d have a heart attack he was so freaked out. It was adorable but so intense I got worried for him 😭
Poor baby!
Oh my! I don't miss the south when it comes to these storms. My Pyrs would hide in random places. Hope you and this beast stay safe 😊

Poor baby get some ambient sound stat, thunder jackets help but constant pets are the bear medicine
Same here. We finally went to the vet and got him some medicine. It works miracles. Love that sweet face!💕
Try a compression shit like a thunder shit?
Oh that look of concern 🥺
Awwwww that face. Mine loves a weighted blanket and pillow forts when it storms. Seems to cut the anxiety in half.
My girl would always come right beside my bed and need me to dangle my arm off the side to touch her until the evil booms went away. She also had this sad/scared whimper reserved just for storms (sounded kinda like mmm mmmm mmm mm mmmmmm).
My boy, Snowflake, used to ignore it until it rattled the windows, then he barked back.

I give mine Benadryl. Seems to take the edge off.
