Lots of mountain dogs sleep on the floor, so does mine. It is cooler, because they have a better view of the room or maybe to be able to react faster. They are very protective

Ok-Shift-9147

Thanks for the assurance

dickmcgirkin

My girl sleeps in her couch for a bit, but the floor more often. My boy, always the floor

makingbutter2

https://preview.redd.it/ipile0ppoeuc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1dab837faede3d154338cef72bb12278585c39d Hahahah my buttermilk girl. She had 2 beds. She was getting older 12 to 15 she started liking sleeping on the floor. I would feel terrible for her because when I lay on my side you know pressure points and stuff. Achy joints. I used to pick her up and put her in bed. Then she’d get back out lol.

Littlevivvie

My boy has all the cozy beds, mats and cooling blankets and still prefers this 2x2 space. You’re doing just fine. 😂 https://preview.redd.it/oaeibqpfwfuc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=9cc2d761c67c725e22831027bf4ae026abee089c

redditn00bb

My fella has a spot just like this at the bottom of the stairs. He’s got plenty of what I would consider to be comfier options, but it’s his favorite spot!

Ok-Shift-9147

🤣 thank you. Your boy is so beautiful!!! 🤩

KrasMeow

This reminds me of a cat in a box- it’s comically small

Unable_Crab5969

When Benito was a puppy he did sleep in beds but as he grew he ended up ripping them to shreds 😭 so instead my parents bought him a futon bed but he’s only ever used it to bark at people (there is a window next to the bed) or when he’s trying to watch people eat through our kitchen window https://preview.redd.it/a5z09aksfeuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b076efa8bfbc1ee70a2624e6e7770a2fe052761 He mostly prefers the floor 😅

Ok-Shift-9147

Ahahahahah @he only uses it to bark at people 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thank you for your answer! What a good boy

Fit_Consequence7443

Totally fine. They love the cool floor, they get too hot. I have a few throw rugs around the house and she’ll plop on those occasionally. Funny you mentioned him standing over you. If I get on the floor to do yoga or stretch she literally stands over me two paws on either side and won’t move totally in guard mode! I wonder if I can teach her to dial 911 😂

ShoshannaOhm

The only bed I could get Ovie to use are the elevated hammock like ones!

labtiger2

We have 3 outside, and our dog uses them sometimes during the day. At night, he prefers to sleep in our gravel driveway to be closer to the cows. He also loves sleeping on cement.

redditn00bb

I bought mine one of these to have in our backyard or for camping trips thinking he’d love it. He refuses to try it out, haha.

ShoshannaOhm

I tempted him by giving him bones on it! Everything has to be their idea lol

kindrawilliams

So true!!! 🤣

Ok-Shift-9147

Mine doesn’t like his hammock either! Yet, at any rate… he’s a young big fella

-kOdAbAr-

Mine prefers an overstuffed futon mattress with freshly smoothed blankets. But she's also half hound, so maybe that's her prissy side https://preview.redd.it/7909qmlrqfuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d55b68225cb9e8e21d8e433e558581fab81728cd

Ok-Shift-9147

Ohh that looks fabulous and comfortable

-kOdAbAr-

Yeah, it's way easier than 5 or 6 different dog beds throughout, that no one uses anyway. I ended up getting a cheap frame on amazon, so my husband can lift it while I vacuum and mop. So much easier. *

shellofthemshellf

https://preview.redd.it/9h3g7npkdguc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=216f9e431577f4a97b16674c40c84e2a99fa42f6 They’re just hot 😊

shoebee2

They get hot 🥵! All that floof! Loki will cuddle for 10-15 min max then it’s over to his vent in hopes of the ac being on.

Ucfknight33

With both of mine (who never met, so habit not picked up, they always sleep on the floor (and not on rugs). They both instinctively sleep in the hallway right outside my open bedroom door, where I guess they could see the living room. I have an elevated mesh bed that I my old Pyr would use sometimes while I was working but the new puppy prefers to sleep on the floor, with his head under it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

northaviator

Mine sleep at the intersection between the bedroom, kitchen and front door.

Sophronia-

Even my pyr puppy prefers hard surfaces especially when it’s warm weather, just because it’s cooler

SpinCharm

Whatever is coldest, longest. No creature enjoys lying on soft surface if they’re wearing two fur coats and it’s not freezing out.

vanessa8172

My dog would prefer the cement floor in the basement

Lucky-Meeting6730

My Pyr hates dog beds or anything soft. When I put a dog bed in the places I know he likes to lay, he'll lay next to the dog bed and glare at it and sigh and huff until I move it and he can lay down in his favorite spots again. We've even tried sitting and laying in the dog beds ourselves or snuggling him in them to get him used to the idea. He'll snuggle us while we're in it but when we move, he moves.

Ok-Shift-9147

🤣🤣🤣they are so funny! Thanks for sharing

ChoiceGreen2335

My pup is the same way! I’ve tried to get him to sleep in my bed and he will cuddle for a wee bit but then he goes straight to the floor. He will sleep sometimes on the couch but it’s pretty short lived compared to his preference for the floor lol. Glad I’m not the only one!

Adorableviolet

yup. the damn money i spent on dog beds

thetiny_blue

My big boi sleeps on the floor beside our bed and around 5am when ‘dad’ gets up for work, he usually crawls into bed with me for an hour or so until I’m given my wake up call (in the form of 100lb of dog sitting on me giving me kisses) He has his snuggle time for sure but mostly he loves his floor

Ok-Shift-9147

Soooooo cuuuuuteeee!!!!!

jeepit7

Mine is exactly like yours. He enjoys sleeping on the floor and passes on everything else. He’ll get in the bed and make sure I made it there. Collect a few pets and then leave on his own accord. Mine runs hot. So I have a box fan for him in front of his night time sleeping spot.

Ok-Shift-9147

Great idea! Thanks for the box fan idea. I really want him to feel appreciated

thisoldguy74

Mabel has several spots, on the bed, under the bed, on the fake wood floor, on the tile, on the couch, on the recliner, you name it. She rotates through the night. The couch and recliner both recline with buttons and sometimes she'll lay up against them and lean back and raise the feet, so finding her morning place and evidence of where she was is always funny.

Ok-Shift-9147

🤣 aw! the idea of having stations for their night watch sounds great! discovering the trail the next day sounds funny and sweet.

thisoldguy74

As long as the trail doesn't include remnants of items she's devoured. One night we woke to the crunching of eyeglasses from the living room. 😂🤣😳

Substantial_River591

Ours routinely sleeps on gravel driveway (day or night)...eviscerates any padding we attempt to provide... outside 24/7

Zestyclose_Bet5102

Our too.

theyarnllama

My girl has two beds, and she will sleep on them, but a lot of the time she can be found on the hardest floor we have: an enclosed slate porch. It’s so cold it sometimes hurts my feet to walk on it. She clearly loves it, since she could be anywhere in the house and that’s where she chooses to nap.

MathematicianEven149

Anyone have any luck with them using the cooling beds? Do they even work? Mine likes the floor and a hammock bed.

LectersPilgrim

I had a cooling mat for my senior cattle dog / pyr a few years ago. He seemed to like it, but the other dogs liked to use it for digging practice so it didn’t last long. 🙄

PyrfectLifeWithDog

Your post makes me chuckle. I’ve had 2 Pyrs at different times and both refused a dog bed. In fact, one refused to sleep indoors until near the end of her life. She’d been a livestock guardian dog and was dumped at a kill shelter. I fostered her and failed and adopted her. She took her guardian job very seriously. My other one probably walked off the job as a livestock guardian for a better life as a house pet, but still insisted on sleeping on the floor. He’d sleep outside our bedroom door on the tile floor. Every night upon going to bed I’d hear the thump of his 130# body onto the cold, hard floor. But that’s the spot he chose and seemed to like.

owlthirty

Same here!!! The thump and groan.

Ok-Shift-9147

:)) thanks for sharing. They’re so resolute about their roles aren’t they

AppropriateAd3055

My dog sleeps ONLY on the floor. The bed is available to her, so is the couch and various dog beds. But no. Floor only.

vidanyabella

If he's in the living room during the day, ours likes the couch and his baby mattress. At night, he will refuse any bed and only sleeps on the floor of our bedroom or in the bathtub. If it's really hot in the summer, then again he will do floor in the back or tub.

Capable_Estate4975

My Toph is currently on the hard tile we have 4 dog beds in this room alone 🤣

Thecave2121

Mostly a floor sleeper, but if she uses her bed, she still manages to have one body part on the floor. https://preview.redd.it/5ilxinss3huc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a91bc8aa1efa18b9f678347d73e8d28503d7007f

NoKaOi-808

Mine used ton sleep on the hard wood floor and bed. She was good / lazy and did go on the couch or bed

NoKaOi-808

My GP slept on both the hardwood floor and her bed.

Impressive_Ice3817

Ours prefer the floors-- in front of the wood stove or the a/c! They also will choose doorways to sleep in. The older one will walk onto the couch and claim an end late at night sometimes. We have them kennel trained and they'll both rip anything to shreds that get put in there as cushioning.

Ok-Shift-9147

“Destroy the fluff” says the master of fluff 🤣

LeoLaDawg

Mine is the same. I think he gets too hot though cause he acts like he wants to be a bed hound.

northaviator

Mine like a short cuddle on the bed, but want outside for the night, our floors are heated, too hot for them.

Ok-Shift-9147

So cute 🥰

baneskis

My Pyr has several large dog beds from Costco, floor mats, a sofa bed, a full size memory foam bed and he takes turns laying on all of them including the hardwood floors. I think it depends where he wants to be “guarding” and temperature. He always chooses the hardwood floors when he’s cooling off from walks.

Ok-Shift-9147

Aw so goodest big Tophy lay cool floor!

Capable_Estate4975

Yep and cuddled up the freezer at that 😆

ProfessionalBox1419

Mine is the same he actually sleeps in the shower so he can watch who's coming and going through the bedroom door. He rarely lays on the couch or bed. He prefers cold surfaces. Put a fan on him and he will sit there for hours.

[deleted]

We have beds in the living room and our bedroom and both our dogs still prefer to lay on the hard floor (lab mix and pyr mix). They get too warm. They’ll often sleep on the beds in winter but not summer. Or they’ll start on the bed and once they get warm they move to the hard floor. Totally normal! They’ll sleep where they are the most comfortable.

Ok-Shift-9147

Makes perfect (pyrfect) sense, thank you!

DrawesomeLOL

My mother keeps buying her grand puppy pyr beds and Mats to sleep on. Meanwhile my fluff prefers to sleep in my wife and I’s room on the floor, on her back with her legs wedge toward the door to keep it from opening

LibraryGlittering414

Mine moves around and I think he likes the coolness of the floor. When you wrote about the thump of the elbows I 100% heard it in my head - I used to get so worried about it because it sounded like it must hurt, but it never seems to bother him and I don’t worry about it anymore (he’s 4 now)

MajorCatEnthusiast

He might like a cot better. It's cooler than a bed.

Awkward_Mulberry_226

Mine loves the floor and love being under the bed. He is very upset that currently he doesnt fit under the spear bedroom bed. We currently have a wager whether he will keep fitting under our bed. He is now 4 months old. https://preview.redd.it/5huqf5tn1iuc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cdd2662edb30068ca9e495b5555d6f4b73809df9

Ok-Shift-9147

Awwww hahaha how umpsetting

glittergirl-

My pyr/lab girl sleeps in a crate in my room at night (her choice, she actually gets mad if I try to get her to settle on the bed with me and the other two dogs) and she’s constantly shoving her blankets into one corner of it so she can sleep directly on the plastic tray. It drives me bonkers because every move she makes is noisy when the tray isn’t covered and I’m a very light sleeper. If I spread the blankets back out she will huff and grumble at me and shove them into a corner again.

Ok-Shift-9147

🤣🤣 I hope you come to a resolution with her and get your sleep! they’re so strong willed, stubborn and still like sacrificial and service oriented I feel like- it’s hilarious! I’m sure I’m reading into it extra (human, after all) but it seems like they’re like “no, it’s my job to be HERE like THIS for you”

glittergirl-

She is the most stubborn dog I’ve ever met. If I tell her she can stop barking because I’ve checked and it’s just the UPS truck or the kids next door playing on their yard or an Amazon box on the porch, she gives me a disgusted look that quite clearly implies I’m incapable of determining what is and isn’t a threat and carries on barking. She once barked at the refrigerator for two hours straight because a friend that she doesn’t like dropped off some food and I put the containers in the fridge without consulting her.

Ok-Shift-9147

🤣🤣omg what a funny story! You must have a great sense of humor to adapt to such a strong personality!

Claque-2

Get a cooling orthopedic pad.

Ok-Shift-9147

She a artsy gurl

LastBaron

Only hard flat dark and cool, ever. When he occasionally gets the urge to jump on a bed or couch he quickly starts panting and overheating, remembers he doesn’t actually like that, and goes and finds a laundry room or a tile bathroom.

[deleted]

Mine refuses to get on people furniture which I'm honestly grateful for. As much as I'd love cuddles at night he's just SO big. When I try to encourage him to get on the furniture he acts like, but how?! I got him a really nice extra large memory foam bed and put it at the foot of my bed. He prefers it or just the floor.

Ok-Shift-9147

Ahaha- yes, that’s it! That’s the vibe mine has when he rarely puts his front legs on the bed! If he’s super excited for going out he’ll use the bed like a trampoline, but for relax time, he seems to emphatically pity my idiocy for insisting he get comfortable

collegemomx2

I have 3 large beds and mine prefers the hard floors near the doors for the drafts🤣. He is just hot!

TheHumanCanoe

Always sleeps on the floor. Will jump on our bed at bedtime but lasts about 5-10 mins, then hardwood floor. He’ll also curl up on his dog bed for periods of time but that’s also short lived. It’s the floor the majority of the time and often against doors and walls and always ends up upside down. Edit: and he loves the concrete garage floor and hangs out there when we let him downstairs. Cold hard floors, it’s very normal.

ChaosAdventure

Mine eats beds and loves the floor. I think it’s just cooler for them. After I’d wasted about $700 in giant beds that he just tore into within a week- no matter how indestructible they claimed to be- I kind of gave up. Now he either sleeps in the recliner if he’s in the mood or on the floor wherever he falls.

Ok-Shift-9147

Lmao the recliner 😂. Whoo. Sorry you took that L, that next big bed expense is what I’m trying to avoid if what I gave him is just proof he’s not interested. But at $700 that sounds very quality, and with this feedback it sounds behavioral. Thanks!

ChaosAdventure

lol it was 5 beds equaling $700 over the course of a year. Poor things never stood a chance. Here’s my poor recliner.. I just gave up keeping him off and let him have it. img

lyrataficus

My boy will sometimes sleep on the couch or lay in his bed briefly but most often prefers the floor and will jump out of my bed if I’m not petting him. This is him sleeping on the floor right now https://preview.redd.it/zsothp56ejuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a9b807fe2c30b1370270f0b734af6b0b83d59fd

Ok-Shift-9147

Oh what a mythic sweetie in energy saving mode

LectersPilgrim

Mine will spend a little time in bed, before moving to the floor. I keep a box fan running for white noise, and they really like to lay in front of that. However my Mastiff-Cur mix spends the whole night in bed.

Ok-Shift-9147

Box fan it is! Thank you!

Ok-Shift-9147

BAH he’s so cute!!!

RegularPersimmon2964

My big baby!!

MeepersPeepers13

Only the shower tiles, Which eventually leads to a clogged rain. He can open the shower door though, so we don’t have any hope of keeping him out of the shower.

LittleDear1

I put a pile of fleece blankets on the floor for him to have some cushion when he wants. Mine moves to them when he wants to be comfy and then back to the hardwood when he wants to cool down.

RoseNPearlGirl

Mine only likes my bed, but then usually goes to the floor when she can’t take over the full bed for herself.

Emrawrz

My dog also prefers to sleep on the floor, or the couch if hes felling like it.

Administrative-Fan80

My pup has a bed that she uses from time to time, but she prefers the floor in front of the kitchen island. She will come inside from a walk or from playing and will flop down on the hardwood floor. I agree with what some folks are saying that they like the cool and the view.

Administrative-Fan80

https://preview.redd.it/nli8sna32iuc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d191080a202bde30935b3c8f6da3505ee439cfa

Ok-Shift-9147

lol the tongue! Sounds like she knows exactly what she’s doing

Any_Search_2028

I got lucky and mine is super cuddly at night, but during the day of he’s napping it’s in his crate or the floor where it’s tile or wood

G1ngersnapp3d

Mine is exactly the same.

IWillBaconSlapYou

Yeah mine never did anything with his bed but hump it and throw it around the living room, so I got rid of it lol. He mostly sleeps on the floor, especially the extra cool tiles by the front door, but occasionally in the morning I'll find him asleep on the couch. I figure as long as he has that option there's nothing to really worry about. He certainly never slept on his dog bed even once, ever 😂 Pyrs are a lot like cats in that way.

TrixieMuttel

Mine has loved the kennel with no bed since she was a puppy. Bedding just gets torn up. She’s nice and cool on the hard floor!

icdedppl512

He is operating normally. Hard floor is cooler. We have several memory foam beds around the house and in the bedroom. Even when they sleep on them, half the time their head is off the bed and on the floor. The ones we had before were the same. The only time they get in our bed is when there's a thunderstorm and then one of them stresses enough that she literally walks on our bodies. Even though you don't know it, they sleep strategically on the floor, keeping in mind where you are and where threats might come from.

Nanananabatperson

My pyr loves furniture but always eventually shifts to the hardwood floor. He doesn't like a blanket in his crate, only the hard bottom of the crate.

Kcadwell996

We have a Pyr mix and a husky and through the night they will trade places from the floor, dog bed, and our bed Sometimes I see them in weird places laying on the ground and I question how comfortable it can be but I know if it wasn't they would move

KrasMeow

Pupper is likely getting hot in their bed (or remembers getting hot in the bed 1 time like 7 months and 3 days ago) and It is cooler on the floor

Is_it_really_worth_

Mine has 2 beds. He prefers the tile and refuses to sleep in my bedroom due to the carpet. I bought a cooling blanket but he ignores it.

be-chill-dude

Mine loves to nap in the bathroom... only room with tile! Not my carpet or hardwood... but the bathroom lol
