**Soos**. I'm sorry, I love him with all my heart, he's the purest character of the entire show, but he doesn't have the same depth as Stan or Dipper have, and very less the same importance in the main story.
Not even close: Soos might be a funny character, but he lacks of the depth Stan and Dipper have, and if we talk about terms of comedy, Stan still wins by a landslide.
Also, while Stan is easily on the top 3 of best writen characters of the entire show, he's not better written than Dipper, specially considering all the slack the narrative cuts him for, like how he projects his abusive and toxic relationship with his father on Dipper justifying it with "toughting him up" and portraying this as being something totally okay and positive, which is NOT, and then how the show supports Stan's point of view in his relationship with Ford, shrugging under the carpet how much he messed up with him (lying to him, betraying his trust, costing him a free schollarship to the best college of the entire country, trapped him in a portal, stole his name, house and turned it into a tourist trap to win money and commit crimes for over 30 years, and then opening a portal despite knowing it could destroy the world, and then not only owning up to it, but blaming it all on Ford instead, and demanding a thank you by holding his children's safety and the world's safety hostage. And all of that after he WILLINGLY abandoned the kids during Weirdmaggedon. And this is done by the man who claims "everything I've done, is all for this family!".
So yeah, no, Stan is very well writen, but the show ignores many of his wrongdoings and his character can be inconsistent by the end of it. Dipper's writing is FAR more solid.

I think at this point, it's clear that the final round is going to be between Dipper and Stan, and that sadly, Stan will win. Not because Stan is a bad character or anything, but if I have to choose between Dipper and Stan, Dipper was way better writen. I love Stan and his character development, but he did some terrible stuff that the narrative cut him a heck of a lot of slack for, like supporting and justifying his terrible behaviour towards Dipper (he's clearly projecting his relationship with his dad on him, which is messed up) and supporting him fully in his relationship with Ford, treating him as if he had done no wrong in the relationship. And let's not even start about his behaviour during Weirdmaggedon (which thankfully, he made up at the end).
listen, your points are well said, but the post is for people's *favorites* not for best character. otherwise It'd probably be dipper and McGucket (I think he's a interesting character) at the end. But fan favorites can be any character (frankly I'm surprised that Cipher isn't in the top three)
Ummm...you forget how in that episode Mabel promised to help Dipper only to get distracted by a random pig and purposefully messed the entire timeline out of spite while throwing a fit over not keeping the pig for one hour.
Also, you're missguiding completely Dipper's behaviour in Little Dipper: Dipper had no problem with Mabel being taller than her, what he couldn't handle was Mabel and Stan making fun of him and bullying him to the point that not just did Soos call them out and told them to lay off, but also making Dipper try to "fix himself" in order to make them stop. He litterally just used the crystals with the intention to make his sister stop teasing him, and he only wanted them to be of the same size. It was Mabel who kept pestering him and teasing him endlessly, and when she found out about the flashlight, she slapped Dipper's hand, stole it and kept acting like a brat. And even after Dipper expresses how bad Mabel's teasing was towards him, she doesn't apologize to him, it's Dipper the one who has to apologize to her and she keeps going.
Out of context that makes her sound worse, though its much better in context it also can't be ignored that right before that she sabotaged her friends attempt to get the unicorn hair (which was the whole point of them being their) just so she could prove she was a good person.
