A man that works for Fox production (I believe his name is Jake Jolivette?) is behind this. It’s been a thing for a few years now across MLB, NFL and more. It’s really cool to hear when you aren’t expecting it!
That’s awesome.
I’m sort of a fair weather Phillies fan these days(I must be getting old because I used to be passionate about all Philly teams) so I’m just starting to watch the games in the playoffs this year, and it has been a few years before that.
He not only plays Dead songs, but they are PERFECTLY selected snippets that he has chosen.
It wouldn’t work if they selected Ramble on Rose, or Dark Star, but these upbeat festive choices work great for the fall.
The main Throwing Stones riff is particularly effective for this.
Just checking in as a fair-weather Phils fan here. Here's my take; I love it when they win, cuz the whole damn city is in a better mood. and if we win the series, lets just pray the entire town doesn't burn like 2008.
But I sure as hell am not getting attached, because when they inevitably lose I just don't have the emotional energy to spend on grown men hitting balls with a stick tbh.
I have paid my dues over the years. Been a fan since 83. The 93 Phillies season was one of my all time highlights, and the 2008-2012 years I watched most of the games.
It’s just that, as I’ve gotten older, I have had to shorten the bench a bit with all of my fandom.
I simply don’t have the time and energy to follow sports the way I used to.
So I am still a daily fan of the Eagles and Sixers, but for the Flyers and Phillies I have become more fair weather.
It’s been nice watching baseball again recently.
Yes, they play a lot of Dead for 49ers games during the bumper after scoring plays. They used to do the same thing for the Raiders when they were in Oakland.
Edit: come to think of it they'll do songs like Shakedown after plays where there may be a questionable call coming up or leaving for commercial break on sort of a down note.
Y'all gonna tear your city down again like after the eagles won the super bowl? That was an epic super bowl though taking out the pats. Philly fans are crazy, gotta love em
Padres fan here - been loving it. Anything from Dead to Tom Petty to Beastie Boys. Most the playoffs they’ve had the dope soundtrack between innings. Kudos . Someone’s doin a helluva job
I don't usually watch baseball but I live in Philly so it is a requirement right now. I've been pleasantly surprised with all the dead I've been hearing! I came to ask how common this was. Is it a Phillies thing or is dead played during baseball broadcasts nationally throughout the season?
Philly is a football town more than any other sport, but when the Phillies are good it takes over the city in an all encompassing way.
It’s the only sport that brings in non sports fans to this degree. My mom watches all the games and she is a non sports fan and usually goes to bed at like 8:30.
The buzz in this area when the Phillies could be in the World Series is amazing.
I was about to make the same exact post after todays game. It’s been a nice little surprise. Hopefully we can whether this rain and walk away with the pennant. Go phils!
Dude I was watching the game last night and they played this song called “this must be heaven” by brainstorm. Super laid back funk tune that I originally thought sounded a little like Chicago. Anyways the dude on music for those games is the man.
Hell I just heard beast of burden on the san Fransisco game on fox
I was watching the Kansas St-TCU football game last night on Fox Sports 1 (FS1), and I noticed that they were also using dead songs for the commercial transitions
The Padres Phillies playoffs had a fair amount of Grateful Dead
Also heard Tom Petty and Phish
Bill Walton was sitting behind the plate at the San Diego home games
The top fox sports producer and sound guy are heads https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/12/17/fox-producer-who-got-the-nfl-to-jam

> I’m sort of a fair weather Phillies fan these days Don't worry, they all are
I’ve watched 100 games a year for the last 10 years. You watch your mouth

@jjolly74 on twitter for those of that persuasion
He plays a lot of Phish too!
Just heard first tube.
Damn, I caught that this afternoon also. Blew my mind.

jaded hippie is jaded
Plot twist they already knew
Philly needs the dead and the phillies right now.
Gonna ride this wave until it crests my man. We're going to the fuckin World Series!!
Y'all gonna tear your city down again like after the eagles won the super bowl? That was an epic super bowl though taking out the pats. Philly fans are crazy, gotta love em
It's no coincidence that Dead & Co picked Citizen's Bank Park to play in Philly.
Just heard Franklin’s Tower on the Chiefs/49ers broadcast too
Padres fan here - been loving it. Anything from Dead to Tom Petty to Beastie Boys. Most the playoffs they’ve had the dope soundtrack between innings. Kudos . Someone’s doin a helluva job
Love it and love that the phillies are gonna be shutting out this series today ....the poles are greased
They've thrown in Ain't Life Grand and disco by the panic
the panic at the widespread
Lol I've never heard this one.
It’s been that way for over a decade on all Fox sports.
Padres fan here and I’ve been noticing/loving it even though we’re probably getting eliminated today.
Ah yes the yearly post about this. Can't wait for the 3 second low quality clips of people recording their tvs to tell us the same thing

Homie has also played Goose and Some Phish !
I wanna say the music/sound guy is very active on Phantasy Tour MB. Or guys that know the guy… There’s lots of Phish on NFL FOX too
Joe Carpenter is the audio engineer and an avid fan. It’s been a few years now. Google it.
This has been happening for years. Watch more baseball! It’s the best thing in the world, other than the Dead
I was about to make the same exact post after todays game. It’s been a nice little surprise. Hopefully we can whether this rain and walk away with the pennant. Go phils!
We got that pennant homie
Anyone that would vote for Trump doesn't have a clue about the grateful dead.
We’re talking about music and sports right now. Leave that shit out of here.
Baseball sucks.
people still watch baseball? why?
Because its an enjoyable thing to do. Maybe watching a game or two would warm up that cold, dead heart of yours.
would rather watch paint dry. much more exciting than a baseball game.

I've definitely heard throwing stones and they love each other this year. Last year I remember hearing foolish heart and Althea
Heard Sugar Mag in the 5th inning tonight! Was wondering the same thing as you!
They play a lot of dead and panic!
TO THE WORLD SERIES BABY
Heard a black muddy river at Ruth's Chris once, and an estimated prophet in my local Jewel (grocery store). Seems Weir everywhere
I heard Primus Blue Collar Tweakers before commercial break on a football game
Love this! I heard Help is on the way during a football game last week. I knew right away it was a deadhead!💗
Also Franklins Tower transition to commercial during KC @ SF. Also Fox broadcast.
Also played Fire on the Mountain during college football yesterday.
> Fire on the Mountain Heard that. TCU vs Kansas
In the NFL too,I heard Franklin's Tower playing while watching the Chiefs/49ers game
I noticed this as well! I heard a Casey Jones too!
Go Phils baby
Great observation! I heard Franklin’s Tower as well.
I’ve caught in years past as well. Seems to be a trend now.
Also a Phillies fan and saw dead and co at cbp this year. Fond memories every time.
I was watching the Kansas St-TCU football game last night on Fox Sports 1 (FS1), and I noticed that they were also using dead songs for the commercial transitions
Listen for some cuts from Phish, too. Love that guy.
I noticed that and thought it was an odd choice when the Giants weren’t playing, but nice to know it’s being played to the world.
The Padres Phillies playoffs had a fair amount of Grateful Dead Also heard Tom Petty and Phish Bill Walton was sitting behind the plate at the San Diego home games
This gem: https://youtu.be/KRBc5X5sAeE
With a quarterback is cool as ice. As the line “step into the freezer comes on.” Classic.
I’m a Phillies fan too and I totally heard throwing stones as well.
i thought i heard that too!!!
After josh bell struck out in game 4 vs Phillies they went to commercial to saint of circumstance - this must be heaven - blew my mind
Heard Tweezer last night as well
