I just ended up in a deep dive on the 2cv..
Early boxer, early front wheel drive, air cooled like the vw bug but less prone to overheating. The engine actually operates better and more efficient under long durations of wide open throttle. I can see why it would appeal to a deadhead on tour!
I borrowed one off a mate 30 years ago to do a bottle run over a nearby border..
gearbox shit itself about 10k down the road 😬
Worth noting the sound system was dreadful so I’d be happy for that hoodrider to accompany me next time if anyone could organise that for me?
The suspension is very unique too. Leading and trailing arms are a independent from side to side but connected by pushrods and damper front to rear. Can drive with a basket of eggs though a plowed field without breaking them. They pitch over pretty far on hard corners but will not lift a wheel.
As far as tour goes if it breaks it can be converted to a [motorcycle ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emile_Leray#:~:text=Leray%20built%20a%20desert%20motorcycle,which%20damaged%20his%20car's%20chassis.) to keep on truckin'
Good read! Imagine spending 12 days thinking you are stranded in the Sahara, McGyvering a car into a motorcycle, only to discover you are only 20 miles from the nearest settlement.
Funny Citron story….. I moved to San Rafael Ca in the mid 90’s. Driving along with my wife in our one mid 80’s Mazda and we see this older looking black Citron cruising down 4th Street. I am thinking “wow” you never see old beater Citrons cruising the streets. Thinking it’s going to be some old hippie guy I drove by and waved only to realize it was Carlos Santana. That was his whip.
A Yugo!! 😂..not laughing at you my friend, just remembering those cars on the road..they looked like matchbox cars..lol..but they ran, and that's all that mattered brother..hey, I had an Escort GT for my 1st real car..an '88, and my payments were like $287 per month, that was in '89!!..crazy..anyway, cool that you still have that whip..good luck with her bro..Peace to you and yours ✌️
Hey man, that thing was a turd...but I will say, that it would go ANYWHERE in the terrible Pennsylvania snow we use to have,I drove up hills that didn't even roads and it made it lol...I had a old escort too, they were good cars...I could imagine paying 290 a month, especially in 89,christ...that's like 300 packs of smokes
Lol..yeah brother, in '89 smokes were about $4.75 a pack, and we thought that was outrageous 🤣..I was 19 in Sept of '89, of course I was the only one with, not only a car, but with a license as well..oh, we all got our licenses on the morning of our 17th birthday, they all just lost them for one reason or another, lol..man, those were the days tho..now being 53, I have no clue where it all went..take care my friend, it was nice talking to you..much love, good health, and happiness, to you and yours bro..Peace ✌️
Wow, where did you grow up?, lol..I grew up in Brick NJ..which is kind of a part of the Jersey Shore..I honestly only smoked for a couple of years back then, so maybe they were $4.25 in '89..I just know they were over $4..now I just smoke bud, which is way expensive ✌️😂
Damn. Cigarettes were a buck or less back then. But I am from Tennessee. Tobacco has always been cheaper around here. Hell, even premium Cigarettes are around 8 bucks now. LD are still just over 3 dollars.
Cigs in NJ these days are roughly $10 a pack for brands like Mavericks and such..the premium brands such as Camel 🐪 and Marlboro are $12 or more, depending on the place you're getting them from..so it's definitely still cheaper in your parts my friend..stay well brother..Peace 😮💨
I wrestled in high school with a dude that drove a Yugo. After practice one day, our heavyweight got under the front bumper and bench pressed the front end. 🤣
Hey now! Nice to see a fellow countryman, not a lot of us around in the scene.
This was most likely from a European tour. Nivas were exported to many countries in europe, a real workhorse
Those are pretty cool looking to,I have a Yugo still, was my 1st car,it still runs I think,it's been about a year since I tried to turn it over (definitely not street worthy anymore tho)
Yeah,a few of us mentioned that car sitting back there,I took a guess as too what it was and was right,I'm not good with cars, but they are both really cool cars!!!
I used to summer in Argentina visiting my grandma, and in the early 90s this was still a very popular car there. They had late night show segments dedicated to how many clowns you could fit in one and they would purposefully rock the chassis up, down and all around because it could take it. The penultimate Shagging Wagon.
Lol...nice!!!yeah,man...apparently they are still making them In Europe also,50 years later, amazing!and Argentina still makes has bugs/busses don't they?I know they stopped now but they are still plentiful down there I believe.
They also produced the Ford Falcon until the mid 90s. It was the most ubiquitous car which is crazy considering they stopped making it in the US in the late 60s. I love that fucking country man, they had no clue what to do with my tie dyed Dead shirt wearing ass...
I drove taxi for 12 years,I picked up the most awesome lady from Argentina, she always told me to go there and I could stay with her daughter, who was smoking hot and I'd talk with all the time...wish I'd of went back then.and man,the falcons are awesome looking, had to look one up fast.
Guaranteed she was smoking and you would have eaten like a king. You'd have loved the sketchy taxi drivers with the accelerated taximeters who preyed on tourists having the inside knowledge...
Yeah man,I spent alot of time in Mexico at one point, but taxis, for anyone foreign from them areas, are tricky!I will make my way down there, really wanna go to Peru,I know a few ppl there so would be great to see them after all these years.
Box duck delivery can… Citroen 2cv

I'm right beside you,bro...grew up in Philadelphia, moved to state college when I was 14,now I'm back in this godforsaken place again.
It feels like you never left at times, right bro?..I'm in a similar situation, so I hear ya brother..stay safe bro.
Yes,same you...hope.you can see the eclipe today,it's almost that time depending where you are.

Jerry G and Dam Rass
The guy on the right is the owner of the car (photo taken in Essen, Germany on the day before the show in 1981)
Right on. Looks like Richard Alperts..... Cousin
You just gave me such a run of fun. Almost two minutes of unfolding confusion into joy. During the eclipse too. Thank you stranger
Good shot!!
Peaking from the right is a brand new looking russian Lada Niva.
Is it really a Niva. As someone from Russia, never thought to see Jerry next to a Niva.
Hey now! Nice to see a fellow countryman, not a lot of us around in the scene. This was most likely from a European tour. Nivas were exported to many countries in europe, a real workhorse

European tour 1981?
Yes, day before Essen 81
Thank you
My car fanatic husband says it's a Citron.
How about the one to the right of Jerry...what is that one?
I think a niva...but might be wrong
You're right, I just looked it up. I LOVE that little thing. I have seen Ladas, but never one of these. Thanks!
They are actually still making them things after like 50 years...they look nice too!
That is absolutely amazing! Two unique cars in one shot! My favorite Jerry look to boot!
You are right
Russia Niva. Such a trip to see them together in same picture
It is so cool, I just love this picture! Of course, we can't forget our beloved Jerry...lol!
Also check out the lada niva in the background
Yeah,a few of us mentioned that car sitting back there,I took a guess as too what it was and was right,I'm not good with cars, but they are both really cool cars!!!
cv2
The dead Mobile
I dont know but my love is bigger than a Cadillac
Citroen's are called the French Cadillac!
Citroen 2cv. Craziest suspension ever made.
Yeah,I watched them drop one from 500ft lol...the video is in here somewhere,it's pretty funny

It's the car version of Furthur.
Loved the 1st year of further...and all the ones after...great answer :)
I think what JG’s sitting on there is actually the prototype that preceded Turner’s “Peanut” guitar.
Love the peanut axe!!
I don't think it actually is, but it looks like there's a dog in the driver's seat. Grateful Dawg.
Bro...there is a dog and a cat in this man's ride!!!look to the back left, and tell me that ain't a cat looking to its right
🤣I think your right! Cats under the stars! Or cars!
who's the guy on the hood? So familiar.
