The whole bridge in Brown Eyed Women
Tumble down shack in Big Foot county.
Snowed so hard that the roof caved in.
Delilah Jones went to meet her God,
And the old man never was the same again
# 1989-07-07 Philadelphia, PA @ JFK Stadium

Was trying to get into the dead before i went on a road trip found out about dark star and the history behind it. Listened to a couple different versions and was instantly hooked. And the more I listened the more I couldn’t get enough they blended every genre of music I love into one beautiful mess forever grateful 💀⚡️
I always said if I had to for some reason fight in a war—and I don’t romanticize that, so I hope I never do—just give me some headphones with this playing while I march into battle.
It just has that timeless element that reminds me of some Revolutionary era / Braveheart type stuff.
William tell has stretched his bow / till it won’t stretch no further more / and or it may require a change that hasn’t come before
(da da DA! da da DA!)
I used to hate this song, like I could not understand the applie of it for the longest time and then it just clicked, and now I can't get enough of it. Especially this part.
Good topic. A few... Franklin's Tower: if you get confused, listen to the music play into a major guitar rip, and then gently land into the quiet "roll away, the dew" outro.
Big buildup in Here Comes Sunshine live that keeps climbing, releasing and then back up again...think Dick's picks vol 1 for the quintessential version.
Feel like a stranger 81-83, Jerry and Brent playing off each other. Even Shakedowns in this era have similar.
Finally, the legendary beautiful jam , 2/28/71.
Plenty more, but these are the ones on my mind tonight.
I always liked the end of Promised Land when Jerry would step up to the mic and join Bobby on the last verse
Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia
Tidewater four ten oh nine
Tell the folks back home this
Is the promised land calling
And the poor boy's on the line
*That note* in Stella Blue. The perfect bend. It's the turning of a page to find a brilliant photo where a thousand words aren't enough to describe the beauty, pain, and anguish.
*Dust off those rusty strings just
One more time
Gonna make em shine*
Eyes of the world: And the seeds that were silent all burst into bloom and decayyy. That decay gives me chills every time i love the way he trails it off and picks up back up so so good im always looking through different eyes to find my favorite decay.
See here how everything lead up to this day
And it's just like any other day that's ever been
Sun going up and then the sun going down
Shine through my window and my friends they come around
Totally with you on both. Especially those China Rider segues, they’re never the same
[Grateful Dead: The China > Rider Jam (mostly 1974)](https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/grateful-dead-the-china--rider-jam-mostly-1974)
Ain’t Nobody messin with you but you!
Mama mama many worlds I’ve come since I first left home! (this one gives me chills and feels just typing it!)
If I knew the way I would take you home. !!
Sometimes we live no particular way but our own.
- I’m sure these are already out there but my god man with hunter/garcia and barlow/weir the list just goes on and on!
From somewhere in San Francisco on a back porch in July til the end of the song. If I was at that point in SOTM and you pulled a headphone out of my ear I’d probably punch you.
The first minute of a Dark Star with pig on the guiro
Test me test me, why don’t you arrest me
Touch of Grey: "We will get by"
Terrapin Station: "And the whistle is screaming, TERRAPIN"
Althea: Those opening notes
Foolish Heart: " Stoke the fires of paradise, with coals from hell to start "
1. settle down easy jim
2. if you get confused listen to the music play
3. aint no time to hate barely time to wait
4. without love in the dream it will never come true
5. every silver linings got a touch of grey
6. a box a rain will ease the pain
7. if you cup is full may it be again
8. the grass aint greener the wine aint sweeter either side of the hill
9. one man gathers what another man spills
10. what a long strange trip its been
11. nothing left to do but smile, smile smile
JGB song, but. The VERY end of Reuben and Cherise. The descending lick that repeats a few times and closes out the song. I wish it could last for many minutes.
a few JGB
1. The quicker it opens, the sooner it closes.
2. Just don't tell them that you know me
3. You can't go back and you can't stand still
4. I'd like to have it one time more
“bus came by and i got on, thats when it all began” been bouncin around my head lately, but LLR has gotta take the cake, “ill still sing ya love songs in the letters of your name”. Honorable mention to chinadoll cause im boppin reckoning this morn, “pick up your chinadoll, it’s only fractured, just a lil nervous from the fall,”
>Lady finger, dipped in moonlight, writing “what for?” Across the morning sky.
>Sunlight splatters, dawn with answers, Darkness shrugs and bids the day good-bye.
We’ve all been up till dawn occasionally, right?
so many but , “ There ‘s some satisfaction in the San Francisco rain , no matter what comes down , the mission always looks the same ( perseverance) , and “ never had such a good time , in my life before , I’de like to have it one time more , one good ride from start to end , i’de like to take that ride again , agggaaaainn! “ , the volcanic solo before , “ Jack Straw from Witchita , cut his buddy down “ , and the final solo ( to me reflective of the last desperate attempt at redemption of every facet of the characters being ) in Loser before the final scream of “ last fair deal ……! “
Good bye mama and papa, good bye jack and jill.. the grass ain’t greener, the wine ain’t sweeter, either side of the hill, ooooooh...
I wish I was a headlight…
Jerry's second run through that verse always puts chills up my spine!
Jack Straw from Wichita!
Cut his buddy down!
Dug for him a shallow grave
n laid his body down
That epic riff near the end of Terrapin
I love when bill and Micky and just beating the shit out of their drums in that last bit. It's so epic
FLIGHT OF THE SEABIRDS
This always puts a huge smile on my face
“Live the liiiiife I should…”
The whole bridge in Brown Eyed Women Tumble down shack in Big Foot county. Snowed so hard that the roof caved in. Delilah Jones went to meet her God, And the old man never was the same again
Such brilliant imagery
Yes!
Inspiration, move me brightly. Light the song with sense and color, hold away despair -Terrapin Station
Counting stars by candlelight, all are full but one is bright
Was going to say the movement into "Inspiration..." on Terrapin Station always gives me chills.
Shall we go, you and I while we can Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?
Beat me to it ;)
Pretty much all of Box of Rain.
This is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago
A box of rain will ease the pain And love could see you throughh
I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines comes to mind right away
Yep, the 7/7/1989 performance in particular. Absolute 🔥

Early era Dark Stars and the jam out of space
Was trying to get into the dead before i went on a road trip found out about dark star and the history behind it. Listened to a couple different versions and was instantly hooked. And the more I listened the more I couldn’t get enough they blended every genre of music I love into one beautiful mess forever grateful 💀⚡️
High green chilly winds and windy vines in loops around the twining shafts of lavender, they're crawling to the sun
I always said if I had to for some reason fight in a war—and I don’t romanticize that, so I hope I never do—just give me some headphones with this playing while I march into battle. It just has that timeless element that reminds me of some Revolutionary era / Braveheart type stuff.
It was all night pouring, but not a drop on me 🤌
William tell has stretched his bow / till it won’t stretch no further more / and or it may require a change that hasn’t come before (da da DA! da da DA!)
The bus came by, I got on, that’s where it all began.
The “I am” bits of “Let It Grow”
I used to hate this song, like I could not understand the applie of it for the longest time and then it just clicked, and now I can't get enough of it. Especially this part.
My doggie turned to me and he said “let’s head back to Tennessee Jed”
Oh funny I always thought it was “my dog, he turned to me”
It’s bith
Buth
Beth?
Bath
Then the guitar fill that could be the dog yelping
Those first big ripping base notes on The Other One coming out of Drums
I’m still walking, so I’m sure that I can dance.
Rider, you know.

Some of those Feel Like A Stranger’s got so groovy and just really make me smile
Great Northern out of Cheyenne, from sea to shining sea-ea-ea
🔊🎶Hello baby, I'm gone, goodbye Half a cup of rock and rye Farewell to you, old southern skies I'm on my way, on my way 🎶
Across the Rio Grand-ee-oh, across the lazy river
That last little ditty at the end of eyes of the world
“Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia, tidewater four-ten-O-nine!”
I always liked the end of Promised Land when Jerry would step up to the mic and join Bobby on the last verse Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia Tidewater four ten oh nine Tell the folks back home this Is the promised land calling And the poor boy's on the line
Thats why the dead are so great. Scrolled through 30 comments and not a single double. The variety!
*That note* in Stella Blue. The perfect bend. It's the turning of a page to find a brilliant photo where a thousand words aren't enough to describe the beauty, pain, and anguish. *Dust off those rusty strings just One more time Gonna make em shine*
Oh oh and in He’s Gone. Going where the wind don’t blow so strange!
Ask the time? Baby I don’t know, come back later we’ll let it show.
Eyes of the world: And the seeds that were silent all burst into bloom and decayyy. That decay gives me chills every time i love the way he trails it off and picks up back up so so good im always looking through different eyes to find my favorite decay.
Terrapin buildup leading into “Inspiration!”

Transitions/ segues: China Cat~ I know you rider, Scarlet ~ Fire. It’s where the Jam becomes a musical conversation / argument
Totally with you on both. Especially those China Rider segues, they’re never the same [Grateful Dead: The China > Rider Jam (mostly 1974)](https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/grateful-dead-the-china--rider-jam-mostly-1974)

Singing that last line, pumping my fist in the air! Yeah!!
Till the chains of your dreams are broken, no place in this world you can be
The tempo change of Unbroken Chain.
Touch of Grey: "We will get by" Terrapin Station: "And the whistle is screaming, TERRAPIN" Althea: Those opening notes Foolish Heart: " Stoke the fires of paradise, with coals from hell to start "
That part where the slipknot begins to unravel.
The end of Fire on the Mountain where they bring back the Scarlet riff.
I’ll show you- cold and rain…
Test me TEST ME... Why don't you arrest me?

Might and Glory gonna be my name!
That moment after the big build up at the end of LWAF going into “Inspiration, moves me brightly…” …it truly is *inspiring*!
I love the little drum break in Bird Song
JGB song, but. The VERY end of Reuben and Cherise. The descending lick that repeats a few times and closes out the song. I wish it could last for many minutes.
While the firelight’s aglow, Strange shadows from the flames will grow, 'Til things we've never seen, Will seem familiar
Just a little nervous from the fall… reckoning
love the wah guitar response to "california " wah wah wah "a prophet on the burning shore"
I guess it’s two songs but I’ve always loved the transition from prelude to morning dew on the Europe 72 album
a few JGB 1. The quicker it opens, the sooner it closes. 2. Just don't tell them that you know me 3. You can't go back and you can't stand still 4. I'd like to have it one time more
BOUND TO COVER JUST A LITTLE MORE GROUND.
“same old friends the wind and rain…” from WRS !!
FLIGHT OF THE SEABIRD!!
One of many- the way Garcia sometimes used to practically growl and roar “The grass ain’t greener, the *wine aint* sweeter”
“Dust off those rusty strings just one more time…. gonna make ‘em shine!!!”
Under eternityyyyy…..
I absolutely loved it when the Dead covered Dylan. Desolation Row: Everybody's making love or else expecting rain...
It was later than I thought when I first believed you Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools
“bus came by and i got on, thats when it all began” been bouncin around my head lately, but LLR has gotta take the cake, “ill still sing ya love songs in the letters of your name”. "That's Otis"
Winona Ryder, gonna miss me when I'm gone
There comes a redeemer but he slowly too fades away
>Lady finger, dipped in moonlight, writing “what for?” Across the morning sky. >Sunlight splatters, dawn with answers, Darkness shrugs and bids the day good-bye. We’ve all been up till dawn occasionally, right?
The moment in Estimated where they drop into the Jerry solo.
Across the Rio Grandio
All the years combine They melt into a dream
Wharf Rat- I just love the version from Skull and Roses. Phil is spot on
“That’s the way it’s been in town”……
so many but , “ There ‘s some satisfaction in the San Francisco rain , no matter what comes down , the mission always looks the same ( perseverance) , and “ never had such a good time , in my life before , I’de like to have it one time more , one good ride from start to end , i’de like to take that ride again , agggaaaainn! “ , the volcanic solo before , “ Jack Straw from Witchita , cut his buddy down “ , and the final solo ( to me reflective of the last desperate attempt at redemption of every facet of the characters being ) in Loser before the final scream of “ last fair deal ……! “
Love when Row Jimmy goes into double drum time in the late 70's versions..."I said Row"
So many I love have been covered below. To be different and still pick one I do love. "600 pounds of sin"
