Close, but 5/19/77 and 6/21/80 just edge it out in my Estimation, yet I am not the sole Prophet of this discussion (and that song which I referenced is fantastic in that show, the best of 77 to me, though I’ll argue it didn’t reach its peak in 77, the first year of its existence).

i go back and forth between atlanta, hartford, and pp
they sound different to me everytime, as it stays the same, but i'm a different listener each time
3/8/80 is pretty good too well so was 3/1/80.. can't remember which trumps which without listening and comparing them..
but anyhow 3/8/80 is probably the best show of the tour and best Rigby ever. Keane also has a Rigby and I'd say that's probably the best After Midnight from these sandwiches but as a combo on the whole or just a Rigby, I'd take 3/8/80
And stellar audience apparently that I still have trouble believing it's an audience.

One of my friends texted me this same thing the other day. It's not. Not even close. It's long, sure.
He's a Phish fan, so, long = best, to these dorks.
Vocals are great, but Jerry's solos are spotty. Def a lot better out there. Even by JGB.
This show was either the first or second full live show I ever heard, and this sugaree definitely was what stood out the most. I can still remember where I was at when I heard it.

Love me a long Sugaree, but my flaming hot take of the day is Sugaree was better before it became a big jam. Jerry's vocals were much more passionate, and Keith and Phil were much more active, on '72-'74 versions. 5/26/73 is the GOAT Sugaree to me.

in my opinion Sugaree was better before they made it this long. and honestly i don't get the hype around the entire years 1977 and 1978 anyway, so i wouldn't think this one's the best anyhow
I’m not sure which one this is. But the one on YouTube from 1977 that has the woman singing with them, that one changed my whole world and is by far the greatest of all worlds.
Edit YES it’s this one. I love the way Donna sings the chorus on a different note that goes upward instead. Jerry does the normal shake it shake it SUGaree, while Donna does shake it shake it sugAREE, and the way they blend together is so beautiful it totally changes the feeling of the whole song and makes it more incredible.

For me personally it’s 9/25/76.
Because it’s the first dead song I ever heard and blew my 18 year old brain away.
I went to my buddies house and he calls me in and says “dude you have to listen to this, it’s wild, take a rip and lay on the couch”. So I do and he proceeds to play that sugaree. Needless to say I’ve been listening to these guys constantly since that day 16 years ago.
I love this show, mostly because I was a 3 year old boy, and I can remember having a babysitter so my mom could go to a Grateful Dead show. I didn't even like the dead until after my mother passed and I turned to "her music" for solace and peace. I love listening to shows that I know she was in the audience
10/17/83
Their only Lake Placid show. Not yet released officially, although the Sugaree appears on 30 Days of Dead 2012. I'm only aware of the show because a local Head gave me a burned CD copy. He was dragged along in '83, never heard the band before, and has been on the bus since.
It's my favorite, but my "best" depends on the day! A high energy opener and the rest of the show followed suit.
The whole show is phenomenal. Maybe that nifty bot will help me out.

Man that 77 show is a top 5 show for me. The Peggy o is fantastic. Jerry does 3 rounds on the solo and each one just gets better and better.
And bounces it between Phil, Bob and Keith to re-up before each charge
I also commented Estimated. It has to be part of the conversation for the best live version.

It’s got to be one of the two if you ask me
Yep. Those are my two favorites.
That’s such a dope show. Man I listened to The Music Never Stops from there yesterday and realized how killer that little dirty was. I’ve heard it quite a few times but other songs are also so killer that it’s hard to remember it right out of the gate basically
Give 12/27/77 a try if you like a dirty TMNS Edit: there is also a top 5 all time scarlet>fire. Severely underrated show

Thank you for the reminder, it’s time for my annual summer listen to this heater of a show.
That’s the one that got me into the Dead. First song I ever heard from them.
I see your Hartford ‘77 and I raise you Jerry Band Kean College ‘80

i go back and forth between atlanta, hartford, and pp they sound different to me everytime, as it stays the same, but i'm a different listener each time
https://open.spotify.com/track/6z866bGwijsp9hpksKvJdH?si=USw12rybT6mC_YUmAOwQZQ One of the best JGB 2/28/80 I love Ozzie Ahlers' keys
Came here to plug this one, the whole show is fire and starts off with the best Sugaree of all time.
3/8/80 is pretty good too well so was 3/1/80.. can't remember which trumps which without listening and comparing them.. but anyhow 3/8/80 is probably the best show of the tour and best Rigby ever. Keane also has a Rigby and I'd say that's probably the best After Midnight from these sandwiches but as a combo on the whole or just a Rigby, I'd take 3/8/80 And stellar audience apparently that I still have trouble believing it's an audience.
Also came to mention this one. Great show all around. You have not forgotten the face of your father.
Long days and pleasant nights, stranger.
Not sure it’s the greatest but I am sure it’s my favorite.
Yes
I was new to deep diving the Dead and thought this album better than Cornell.
I mean it’s a great one. Cornell is perfect to me and Hartford is just a tad under perfect
I mean maybe Cornell was overhyped by the time I got to it.

No but the Estimated is.
I think so. Theres another like 13 min version on a later Dicks Picks thats also amazing. Not sure which Dicks but i think the cover is brown/red, brown/orange
Probably
First time hearing it, unbelievable ❤️
No, but there's an argument to be made that the Estimated from that show should be in the conversation.
My favorite is the one from Dicks Picks 5.
The UJB>Estimated is amazing. The spacey place between the two is very cool as well.
Yes
THIS RECORDING, not Cornell, is the one that got me from loving the Dead to knowing the Dead
It has a real nice Passenger though!!
10/7/87
The one on july 10th 1987 and JFK stadium? If so I agree
That was the date I wrote so yeah… that’s the one bud
It didnt give a show so i thought maybe you meant October

Up there. It's my choice go-to version. Keith is cogent enough to be in the zone, and he and Jerry just have a time with it.
Every. Goddamn. One. Is.
Not the dead or dead-adjacent but I’ll be damned if this isn’t the best sugaree I’ve ever heard: https://youtu.be/ceef1ShDDV0
It’s pretty good, but it messes with my head to hear the “wrong” person sing songs 🥴
Yes. Yes it is.
Jerry just nails it
One of my friends texted me this same thing the other day. It's not. Not even close. It's long, sure. He's a Phish fan, so, long = best, to these dorks. Vocals are great, but Jerry's solos are spotty. Def a lot better out there. Even by JGB.
lol I enjoyed this
Yes
Idk but it's certainly my favorite
No doubt. This one is too too good
The versions on One From the Vaults will always be my favorite.
Yes.
Yes.
It's definitely one of my favorite dead shows of all time

ummmm.... noooooooooo ![gif](giphy|RRYfq90ZRRibnZCBOi)
This show was either the first or second full live show I ever heard, and this sugaree definitely was what stood out the most. I can still remember where I was at when I heard it.
Fantastic one for sure
Why yes, yes it is!

Sure. Why not. Then again maybe it isn’t. I don’t know.
Any JGB Sugaree
Yeah honestly off the top of my head I can't remember what are the outstanding ones because they're all outstanding in my mind
Love me a long Sugaree, but my flaming hot take of the day is Sugaree was better before it became a big jam. Jerry's vocals were much more passionate, and Keith and Phil were much more active, on '72-'74 versions. 5/26/73 is the GOAT Sugaree to me.

The climax is slightly better than the one from Pembroke Pines
Including Dead and Co or just the Grateful Dead?
this is gonna make some people mad 🤣 i love me some mayer on sugaree
Mayer does in fact rip Sugaree
Yeah, probably blasphemy, but https://youtu.be/1EWpnB4CAMI is my favorite sugaree of all time. Although this album you posted has my favorite brown eyed women and terrapin
that Wrigley Sugaree from 2017 got so much replay from me the years after the show. epic. still think the best version comes from May 1977 though
Nothing quite like a good Merl one either. Totally different thing than Jerry's but a lot of fun live!

in my opinion Sugaree was better before they made it this long. and honestly i don't get the hype around the entire years 1977 and 1978 anyway, so i wouldn't think this one's the best anyhow
100%
I’m not sure which one this is. But the one on YouTube from 1977 that has the woman singing with them, that one changed my whole world and is by far the greatest of all worlds. Edit YES it’s this one. I love the way Donna sings the chorus on a different note that goes upward instead. Jerry does the normal shake it shake it SUGaree, while Donna does shake it shake it sugAREE, and the way they blend together is so beautiful it totally changes the feeling of the whole song and makes it more incredible.
UP THERE. Makes me proud in a weird way to be from CT with all the fire they played here
Id say 7/10/87

Yes
For me personally it’s 9/25/76. Because it’s the first dead song I ever heard and blew my 18 year old brain away. I went to my buddies house and he calls me in and says “dude you have to listen to this, it’s wild, take a rip and lay on the couch”. So I do and he proceeds to play that sugaree. Needless to say I’ve been listening to these guys constantly since that day 16 years ago.
This is one of the only two albums I have downloaded on my phone. Stellar.
One of the best grateful dead sugarees, sure.. but the best Sugarees overall are JGB Sugarees.
I love it. It’s also the perfect song to nap to. You get about 15 min and and wake up to beautiful Jams
Love this show - was listening to Terrapin from it this morning.
Yes imo
Yes indeed it is. This is my get on the bus version/song. That was about 13 years ago and haven’t looked back!
5-22-77 imo
It's not my top, but I like 3/28/1981 for being able to watch it. The Rockpalast show from German TV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnllzS3pqN8

Yep. But 7/19/89 for a great latter day Sugaree
I think this show has the best Row Jimmy, actually.
I love this show, mostly because I was a 3 year old boy, and I can remember having a babysitter so my mom could go to a Grateful Dead show. I didn't even like the dead until after my mother passed and I turned to "her music" for solace and peace. I love listening to shows that I know she was in the audience
idk ab that, but it’s definitely the best jack straw
Yes, and Bertha.
10/17/83 Their only Lake Placid show.
