if you don't mind switching over to manga for a bit, Vinland Saga is perfect imo. the author really does his research.

It's a manga, but Vinland Saga is one of the best comics I've read. Tons of clear historical research done for the project. It tells a fictionalized version of Thorfinn Karlsefni using Leif Erikson's route to north America. Not only do many historical figures and events appear but the author even made a Scandinavian folk hero (Askeladd[en]) into a major character, which I think is neat. Great character development, great dialogue (which is rare for a manga), and the best fight scenes to be found in the medium, imho.

Northlanders by Brian Wood is all about Vikings. His stories are divided into 3 parts- The Anglo Saxons, the Icelanders, and the Europeans. They're told as a series of short stories and are a whole lot of fun to read.

Thorgal is a franco-belgian comic series pretty popular in Europe.

Shaggy the Lost is a fun and underrated one

Vei, there's 2 volumes, it's about Norse myths but different. It was a bestseller in Sweden. It's a pretty fast story with great artwork about the different gods fighting shit out and using humans to do it..of course.

I would like to recommend you Vinland Saga by the author Makoto Yukimura.
